f you’ve got a hankerin’ for some hot stuff to warm these frigid cold nights, then mark your calendar for Bayonne’s first ever Chili Cook Off Competition, where 15 professional chefs plan to do whatever it takes to walk away with the title of Best Chili Champ of Bayonne!

As temps drop to single digits, Bayonne will be heating up its pots and pans for the First Annual Chili CookOff Contest to be held Friday, Jan. 19th, from 6:30-11 pm at the Polish American Home on 22nd Street in Bayonne.

There, residents and friends will taste the offerings of 15 qualified chefs competing for best chili recipe, but Chili Cook-Off attendees

beware: this cook-off promises to bring on the hot stuff with crates of chili peppers, ladles of Cayenne and Cumin seasonings and gallons of tongue-lashing hot sauce guaranteed to set your taste-buds on fire.

Judging will be done by chili cook-off attendees, therefore, contestants are encouraged to dress up in costume to compete for first, second and third place prizes. It’s all in good fun, Bottino says, and part of the proceeds of the cookoff go Hoboken’s First Responders.

Novado Gallery on JC Waterfront Opens New Collectors Show

he modern, beautiful Novado Gallery which overlooks Morgan Street with its old Jersey City vibe, will kick off 2018 with a spectacular group show featuring 14 artists with a strong personal connection to Jersey City.

Off The Wall! The New Collectors Show opens Sat, Jan. 20, (opening reception 7-9 pm) and features the work of Gianlucca Bianchino, Jerome China, Mark Finne, Carlos Frias, Frank Gavere, Enrico Gomez, Lisa FicarelliHalpern, Doug Madill, Lauren Pitcher, James Pustorino, Bryan Rackleff, Fabricio Suarez, Robert Streicher, Charlee Swanson and Kati Vilim – all with a backstory that includes Jersey City.

Like EDGE, Novado Gallery’s previous exhibition, Off the Wall! The New Collectors Show will feature the artists’ works in a variety of mediums.

Since my Husband, and Father-in-law passed away in 2007, it became my responsibility to keep our family business, Rita & Joe’s, running and serving the best Italian cuisine Jersey City has to offer, in the past 10 years I have met the most amazing people in the city, as customers became friends, and most of these friends treated me like family.

For 9 years I have had my mother-in- law, Mrs. Rita Pane, by my side, and even thou her advanced years made her so limited, her standing figure gave me strength to keep the family legacy going. As I said my last goodbye to Mama Rita, I realized that the most important mission in my life was not to keep Rita & Joe’s running, but to give my fullest potential to being a mom to my two boys, Joseph and Jerry Pane.

I am taking this step to do what is best for my family and because of this I’m retiring from my overtime job at Rita and Joe’s and investing that time in my family.

It’s a bitter-sweet moment for us, but above all I want to say Thank you to each and everyone of you for all the support and loyalty that allowed Rita & Joe’s to thrive for 32 years and be the best.
