IYENGAR YOGA

This form of yoga incorporates all of the components of physical fitness with a focus on structural alignment of the body as well as mental relaxation. Studies have suggested that breast cancer survivors who practice this form of yoga have increased well-being and positive immune system response. Class conducted by Kathy Taylor, certified yoga instructor and breast cancer survivor. Feel free to bring a friend!

Meet Our Longest Serving Volunteer!

Her diagnosis came as no suprise, at the age of 44, Katherine Contreras had already braced herself for what seemed inevitable. Breast cancer was apart of her DNA, she lost both her grandmother and mother to it and in November of 2004, Katherine was diagnosed with Stage IV Mestastatic breast cancer. After needing to retire due to treatment, for the first time in her life, she was afraid that she would never feel joy again.

“One day, I realized my focus was on what the cancer was doing to me and how to destroy it,” said Katherine. “That is such a negative outlook, and that wasn’t the way I wanted to live.” Katherine shifted her focus from just battling the disease to accepting her diagnosis. With her new positive outlook, she began volunteering at The Pink Ribbon Place in 2010, giving hope, raising awareness, and supporting other women with breast cancer. Over the last 7 years, Katherine has committed thousands of hours to The Pink Ribbon Place and its thrift shop, Pink Ribbon Thrift.

We cannot thank her enough for all that she has done! We would not be the Resource Center or Thrift Store we are today, without her amazing help.
