Welcome to the very first issue of Inlet District Living! We’re so excited to bring you this new bimonthly print and digital community magazine, created to celebrate the amazing people, places, and pets that make this pocket of Port Moody so special.

There’s something truly unique about life in the Inlet District – where nature, community, and creativity come together. Whether you’re grabbing a sweet treat, catching up with friends over brunch, or paddling out on the water, there’s always something to explore just outside your front door In this issue, we’re also shining a light on a few local businesses we love, because supporting the hardworking people behind them is what helps keep our neighbourhood thriving

You’ll also find a peek inside Wesgroup’s Inlet District Presentation Centre for those curious about making the Inlet District their future home Plus, a look at how to stay active in Port Moody from paddleboarding to Jiu Jitsu. And of course, we feature our beloved local pets (because this is a pet-loving community, through and through!)

Our hope is that this magazine helps connect neighbours, highlight local gems, and inspire a deeper sense of pride in our beautiful community.

Sincerely,

Love for Inlet District

Inlet District feels like the perfect blend of city energy and nature’s calm We love how everything is walkable, community-oriented, and filled with personality - from the small businesses to the lush green spaces It’s the kind of place that inspires creativity and connection, and we’re honoured to have contributed to its story.

- Claire & Rachel , WKNDRS

As a lifelong local resident I’m so excited to see the Inlet District bring new homes and vibrancy to Port Moody! I can’t wait to see how the development comes together, particularly the Market Square, which will hopefully bring new additions to our unique small business community.

- Lisa , Gabi & Jules

It’s a perfect distillation of the best of B.C; smalltown vibes only a 30-minute drive or transit out from a major city, beaches and deep forests within walking distance, a growing network of cycling and running routes, and a population of active, happy people - there’s no place we’d rather be.

- Luke , Faulks Jiu Jitsu

As a lifelong resident of Port Moody and active person, I am envious of the amenities in the Inlet District’s clubhouse. What an opportunity for those residents to have squash, tennis and a synthetic ice surface at their fingertips. All this right across from the water and SkyTrain.

- Jamie , Rocky Point Ice Cream

We moved to Port Moody from Vancouver 5 years ago seeking a slower pace but all the same amenities, and the Inlet District will continue to grow the community thoughtfully while embracing change It's exciting to see this vibrant area continue to flourish, offering even more opportunities to connect, explore, and enjoy everything we love about living here.

- Kayleigh , Proud Pawrent of Hank

As a life long resident of Port Moody and active person, I am envious of the amenities in the Inlet District’s clubhouse and its close proximity to the water. What an opportunity for those residents, to be able to jump in a kayak and be on the water enjoying Rocky Point within a twenty minute walk from their front door.

- Jamie , Rocky Point Kayak

We love the Inlet District’s vibrant energy - it’s walkable, community-focused, and full of character. With a great mix of locals, small businesses, and city buzz, it’s the perfect place for Hard Bean to grow roots and serve up our signature brunch vibes.

- Heather , The Hard Bean Brunch Co.

One of my favourite parts of the Inlet District is that it’s not just being built for the people moving in - it’s being woven into the fabric of Port Moody. It adds to the city’s character without taking away what makes it feel like home. It’s a place where new memories will be made and where new neighbours will feel like old friends in no time!

I started training in Jiu Jitsu when I was eight My parents signed me up for classes in 2006 with Sensei Allen St John at St John Jiu Jitsu in Port Moody Back then, I couldn’t have had any idea how much of a positive impact it would have on me and my family’s lives

A few years later, my younger brother, Zack, signed up. Then Liam, a lifelong friend. And my Dad, Darren. The years went on and we fell in love with the martial art.

Then, in 2014, Allen St. John announced his retirement. He knew my Dad, having started coaching Jiu Jitsu classes himself, had been considering opening up his own school. So he floated the idea of us taking over the business.

That’s not to say that the Faulks family were the obvious candidates to run a business. Both of my parents, Darren and Jennifer Faulks, were both full-time teachers in the public school system. My brother and I were teenagers with our own pursuits

But my Dad had coached middle school sports for years, my brother and I’d been trained to teach as lifeguards, and my Mom is smarter than all of us put together, so we were up for the challenge

In November of 2014, Faulks Jiu Jitsu opened its doors

We knew what our martial arts style would be, right away; Japanese Jiu Jitsu, with more of an emphasis on grappling to suit our instructors’ wrestling backgrounds. We teach stand-up sparring (punches and kicks), grappling (throws and takedowns) and ground fighting - always emphasising live combat and fitness.

But we’ve also deliberately developed our teaching style, pulling from my parents’ teaching and coaching backgrounds.

Every lesson from the last decade has been written out on a white board with skills broken down into digestible progressions - particularly for kids. Our ever-growing team of instructors has met regularly in weekend professional development sessions to review the week And, most importantly, we worked to create a safe space where everyone felt welcome

We’ve built up a teaching team that shares our values. It’s not just a Faulks family operation anymoreinstructors like Liam Bondi, Brent Cromarty, and Sean Ballard all bring their own perspectives to coaching and combat, challenging our students in new ways while still preserving a familial tone.

Martial arts - whether it’s throwing a punch, feeling comfortable in a fight, or just falling safely - is a life skill We want to make sure we bring those skills to as many people as we can

To that end, we’ve also grown from four classes a week in 2014 to 24 classes now It’s given our students the chance to choose their own kind of Jiu Jitsu journey; there’re combat classes that rotate through different combat areas, Jiu Fitsu for people interested in HighIntensity-Interval-Training, and Can Ryu for a slightly gentler approach to climbing the belts.

We’ve also split our kids’ classes up into three brackets: a class for six-to-eight-year-olds and two classes for nine-to-13-year-olds divided by belt level. Those smaller groups have allowed our instructors to deliver effective feedback, challenge students accordingly and reduce the chance of injury.

The business isn’t anyone’s full time job. I’m a reporter. My brother runs a theatre company My Dad is retired from teaching and is ready for the next adventure My Mom is still loving being a teacher-librarian And the rest of the coaching team are launching their careers or already have full-time jobs But we never want to be without the Dojo

It’s an absolute privilege to continue helping people become happier, healthier versions of themselves

Your Internet Should Feel Good - Ours Does!

Looking for fast, reliable service that feels a little more… human? Meet Novus - your local provider of high-speed internet, TV, and home phone services, all powered by our very own fibre optic network. No middlemen. No surprises. Just quality connections from a company putting people first.

You’ve probably heard it by now - Novus calls itself The Feel-Good Network But what does that really mean?

For starters, it means faster support, and a team genuinely understanding what matters to the people who live here We’re not a faceless giant with a call centre halfway across the country We’re your neighbours! Our staff live and work right here in the Lower Mainland That means when you reach out, you’re talking to someone who knows your area, your building, and maybe even your favourite coffee shop.

“Even beyond our blazing-fast speeds, there’s something different about Novus. Maybe it’s the friendly faces at local events, or the way we remember your name. Maybe it’s just that everything feels a bit more personal - because it is.”

And yes, we are proudly local Founded in Vancouver back in 1996, and we’ve stayed true to our BC roots ever since. That’s nearly 30 years of building reliable connections, showing up for our communities, and doing things the West Coast way. Today, Novus is in over 1,000 buildings across Metro Vancouver, and we’re still expanding. Unlike other providers, we don’t ride on anyone else’s infrastructure - we build our own fibre optic network from the ground up. That means faster speeds, more reliability, and better service.

That local love? It shows up in everything we do. From sponsoring community events like Riverside Street Vibe and the local farmers markets, to spotlighting BC creators and makers in our “12 Days of Giveaways” during the holiday season - our version of feel-good means showing up, giving back, and celebrating the people who make our neighbourhoods thrive

We love being part of the community Whether we’re sponsoring the Vancouver Sun Run, joining the fun at Canada Day celebrations, or dancing alongside you at a local festival - we’re not just writing the cheque, we’re there in the crowd Supporting local doesn’t stop at our business model - it’s baked into who we are

And our customers seriously feel the difference. Some have been with us for over 25 years and say our service has been flawless the whole way through. One even said they'd give us 10 stars if they could - how’s that for a feel-good moment? Another shared we’re the first internet provider they’ve ever left a positive review for. Whether it’s a technician who takes extra care during setup or a customer support team that’s helpful and human, we’re proud of the moments that leave people smiling.

Even beyond our blazing-fast speeds, there’s something different about Novus Maybe it’s the friendly faces at local events, or the way we remember your name Maybe it’s just that everything feels a bit more personal - because it is

And when you need some help? We’re on it Fast No long holds, no endless transfers, just real help from real people

So if you’re looking for internet that’s fast, friendly, and rooted right here in your community - make the switch to Novus.

It’s not just internet. It’s the feel-good network.

Rocky Point Ice Cream is a beloved artisanal creamery that has been serving the Metro Vancouver area since 1997 Jamie, born and raised in Port Moody, attended preschool in the park and landed his first job at Pajo’s in 1991. 6 years later he went on to open Rocky Point Ice Cream in the heart of Port Moody’s Rocky Point Park, where owners Yvette and Jamie Cuthbert ran a small summer kiosk next to the outdoor pool. What started as a modest seasonal venture quickly became a local favourite, offering scoops of hand-crafted joy to families, park-goers, dogs, and ice cream lovers from across the region.

As demand for their ice cream grew, Yvette and Jamie began producing their own hand-crafted ice cream in 2012, transforming the original shack into a permanent fixture in the park Their commitment to quality and community helped grow Rocky Point Ice Cream from a single seasonal outlet into a thriving, multi-location business Today, the company operates several retail locations, including shops in Uptown New Westminster, Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park, Port Coquitlam, along with a growing fleet of ice cream trucks and a presence at major tourist destinations like the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Prospect Point in Stanley Park

In 2021, the company opened its own 8,000-square-foot provincially licensed dairy plant dedicated to the production of small-batch, hand-crafted ice cream. The creamery was thoughtfully designed by Yvette after years of research and site visits to other dairies in New York and Italy. It now produces over 270,000 litres of ice cream annually. Every batch is made in small quantities using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients made with love right here in Port Moody.

Their dedication to craft and quality has earned national recognition At ConeCon, the North American Ice Cream Association’s annual conference, Rocky Point’s strawberry ice cream won first place, and their chocolate flavour took second Entries were judged on taste, texture, melt quality, appearance, and microbiological safety - recognition that reflects the company’s focus on premium ingredients, meticulous production processes, and industry-leading food safety

Whether you're picking up a pint for home, celebrating a special occasion, or enjoying a scoop after a day at the park, Rocky Point Ice Cream delivers on its promise: “A memory with every scoop, a scoop for every memory. ”

Rocky Point Ice Cream remains deeply connected to the community, known for its friendly service, welcoming atmosphere, and support of local events and causes With a reputation for quality and a loyal following, it has grown into a regional favourite Whether you're picking up a pint for home, celebrating a special occasion, or enjoying a scoop after a day at the park, Rocky Point Ice Cream delivers on its promise: “A memory with every scoop, a scoop for every memory.”

If you’ve ever spent a sunny weekend wandering the Shoreline Trail, grabbing a treat from a local café, and ending the day with a craft beer at Brewer’s Row, then you already understand what makes Port Moody special After visiting Wesgroup’s Inlet District Presentation Centre and learning more about the impressive plans and amenities planned for Market Square, the master-planned community of Inlet District feels like a natural extension of everything we already love about Port Moody.

1 Market Square, the first residential building coming to the Inlet District, blends thoughtful design with everything young families, pet parents, and first-time buyers need. Dog parents will be thrilled with the off-leash dog park, and the chef’s kitchen and open-air terrace are perfect for rooftop dinner parties and gatherings. The homes will have a fresh, open feel with large windows that frame mountain or water views. With bright kitchens, flexible layouts, and space to grow, it’s easy to imagine starting a new chapter here

Then there’s The Well, a two-level amenity hub that really makes this community stand out It’s more than just a gym or shared lounge Residents will have access to a fitness centre, multi-use sports court, yoga studio, parent and kids’ lounge, hydro-zone, games lounge, record lounge, co-working lounge, movie theatre, and even a synthetic ice rink Yes, you read that right – literally an indoor skating area right where you live It’s the kind of thoughtful detail that makes life easier, healthier, more balanced, and a whole lot more fun.

This neighbourhood is just minutes from Rocky Point Park and right near the SkyTrain but still tucked away enough to feel peaceful. It’s a place where life feels grounded and full of possibility.

Meet our Feature Pet

Meet Hank, a 7-year-old English Bulldog living his best life in beautiful Port Moody Hank’s journey started in a Texas shelter, but at just a year old, he found his forever family and never looked back Now, he’s a local legend, turning heads and stealing hearts everywhere he goes

Hank has a personality that’s impossible to ignore. He’s sweet, stubborn, and a little bit judgemental, always ready to wrestle with dogs twice his size or charm strangers on the trails. A true Port Moody socialite, you’ll often find him soaking up attention at brewery patios or strutting his stuff around town.

But Hank isn’t just about the spotlight - he’s a dog of many passions: he’s got a ball obsession that borders on comedic, an uncanny knack for finding rogue hot dogs while camping, and a love for paddleboarding with his parents. While he’s always up for an adventure, Hank has his lazy moments too, where he’s perfectly content to lounge around like the king he is, and he is not above stealing your spot on the couch

At home, he shares his domain with his two tabby cat brothers, Frankie and Titan While he may act like he runs the show, his cat brothers are the real house bosses and aren’t afraid to throw down or cuddle up depending on their mood

Hank’s heart belongs to Port Moody - its trails, waterfront, and the community of friendly faces (who occasionally have tasty treats). Whether he’s out chasing a ball, making new friends, or snoozing after a big day of fun, Hank’s zest for life is undeniable. He’s more than just a dog; he’s a true character, and life with Hank is always an adventure.
