Love for Inlet District

I love this area for its beautiful blend of nature and community. The beauty of Pacific Northwest greenery, water and trails that lead you to the most beautiful and serene places paired with the restaurants and foodwow!! If I had to describe this place in a few words, they’d be: safe, vibrant, and relaxed.

- Jenny , Muralist, Illustrator, & Mental Health Advocate

I love the Inlet District because it holds some of my best memories This community has everything - great restaurants, cozy cafés, salons, breweries, and beautiful parks But what makes it truly special are the people: warm, welcoming, and full of heart And of course, the lovely dogs that make every walk and visit even brighter

- Negin , Owner of The Inlet

Nail Studio

I love calling Port Moody home, especially as an artist located in the City of the Arts, I often feel inspired every day by the people and the sense of community around me The Inlet District feels full of possibility and a place where connections, creativity, and small businesses will thrive together I’m excited to see this next chapter in our city come to life!

- Lianna , Little Potato Creations

I love how walkable our lifestyle here is! I can get to work, shop, and enjoy the inlet or the trails all on foot. My favourites are rowing in the inlet with the seals and walking my dog in the forest. I also love that we have urban amenities and a close-knit community where we regularly see our customers in the neighbourhood.

- Ron & Julie , Unmediocre Store

Working in Port Moody, I’ve grown to love how connected this neighbourhood is to nature. The forests, shoreline, and changing seasons always inspire my gardening, while the thriving local businesses make the community feel alive. It’s a place where both people and gardens can put down roots and flourish together.

- Alex , GARDENWORKS

The community and the collaboration we have with other groups and organizations within the Inlet District is what we love most We chose our name Inlet United, both to honour the Burrard Inlet between the two church sites and because the word "Inlet" means a way in...a means of entry...and this speaks to the vision of our amalgamated congregation as they continue to serve Port Moody and surrounding areas.

- Rev. Jenn & Kelly , Inlet United Church

What we love most about the Inlet District is its sense of community. People here are connected to one another, to the natural beauty of the water and forests, and to the rich history that gives this area its unique character It’s a place where past and present meet, creating a vibrant, welcoming home for all

- Mattea & Bryn , POMO Museum

Bob's walks start around the Village, stopping for a treat and loving pettings from the fantastic people at Inlet Seafoods, who have known Bob since he was a little pup. With a full belly and his heart content, Bob heads to the back of the City Hall and the library, stopping at the tennis courts to watch a match. It seems he never leaves without a tennis ball, generously gifted by a local player after witnessing Bob desperately running up and down behind the fence, hoping for a ball to come his way

FEATURE ART PROJECT

The mural at Site B Coworking Space is a vibrant tribute to creativity, connection, and the magic that happens when people share space and ideas Stretching across the central wall, its bright colours and flowing landscapes echo the warmth and collaborative spirit of Port Moody.

Jenny designed the mural to embody the heart of coworking, a place where individuals create and flourish in community. The landscape design balances energy and calm and offers moments of grounding and focus. Beyond its visual impact, the mural serves as a daily reminder for members to pause, take a breath, and reconnect with their “why” before diving back into their work

The process was as collaborative as the space itself Jenny worked closely with the Site B team, gathering input on colours, symbols, and personal touches meaningful to the owners. These details nod to the space’s history, community, and values. The result is a mural that shares a story of creativity, connection, and the possibilities that grow when individuals follow their own unique path.

“Jenny designed the mural to embody the heart of coworking, a place where individuals create and flourish in community. The landscape design balances energy and calm and offers moments of grounding and focus.”

INLET UNITED CHURCH

ROOTEDINPORTMOODY

With a very long history in Port Moody and Ioco, the roots of Inlet United Church date back to the 1880s

We recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of our little heritage building on Ioco Road in Port Moody The celebration included a bake sale, church tours and mini worship services We were pleased to have the community share in this historical celebration.

Inlet United Church has two locations in Port Moody, The new modern Spring Street location at 2315 Spring Street, Port Moody and our Ioco heritage location at 1790 Ioco Road

There is a lot of history prior to becoming Inlet United Church as we were formerly St Andrew’s United Church In 1925, St Andrew’s United Church on St John’s Street and Ioco United Church, came together and began what’s called a two-point charge; one church, a shared minister and a shared board, but with two separate sites and two separate congregations of people.

In 1991, the two churches separated, and they were once again St Andrews United Church and Ioco United Church, operating individually

In the fall of 2018, the two separated United churches began conversations to once again join together and become one church After many months of conversation and planning, the separate St Andrew's and Ioco congregations became one again Both ministers Rev Jennifer Swanson and Rev Julie Lebrun were kept on staff and resources were pooled As of September 15, 2019 a new name was adopted, and the congregation became known as Inlet United Church.

In 2019, we came full circle and become one congregation again, with 2 buildings Rev Julie Lebrun retired in June of 2023, and Rev Jenn Swanson continues as the full time Minister for both locations.

With the collaboration of Catalyst Community Development and Kinsight, we now have a new modern church and offices at The Springs location which also is home to Share Society and the Tri-City Children’s Centre. In addition, there are 55 units of affordable housing which is managed by Catalyst.

At Inlet United Church we are all about community, and we offer programming not just for our congregation but the entire community

Our Ioco Site is a lovely 1924 heritage building that we worship in part of the time with monthly contemplative candlelit Taizé singing services, a Quiet Christmas service, and a Christmas Eve Service. We also host a daycare in our hall, Butterfly Learning Centre, during the daytime which is for ages 2.5 to 5 years. Our Ioco Church is a traditional little wooden church with pews with cushions, and stained glass windows It’s a really pretty and quite small sanctuary that has a wonderful feel to it There is even a real bell in the steeple! This church is a lovely setting for a small wedding

Our new building at The Springs opened in 2022 and we offer Sunday Worship services at 10am in person and by livestream on YouTube The Springs location is a modern facility that is fully accessible and is flexible enough to have various forms of worship We also have a beautiful labyrinth built into the sanctuary floor that we use for monthly meditative labyrinth walks. We also have modern and flexible meeting spaces available for rent for workshops and events. We offer a variety of community activities at this location including weekly Centering Prayer, Healing Pathway, and Chair Yoga. In addition, we have a monthly Sacred Walks event that includes a Morning Coffee Drop in and Labyrinth Walk and an evening Labyrinth Walk with Healing Pathway Chair Sessions These sessions are drop in and no charge, and everyone is welcome If you like to sing, we have our Inlet Sings! community choir that meets weekly on Wednesday evenings, as well as Moody Rocks! a Classic Rock Choir in Port Moody run by our Music Director Scott Gould. Throughout the year, we offer community events including Jazz & Blues concerts, potluck events, an advent wreath making workshop, and we participate in the annual PoMo Art Shuffle We are also home to PoMo Players who host community theatre performances each year in our sanctuary space

We are a group of seekers, rooted in the Christian faith, working to figure out how to be the kindest, most compassionate humans we can be in this increasingly isolated and challenging world Some of us have been part of a church our whole lives, others have returned after years of not attending, or have come from other traditions, and some of us are brand new and looking for community

We welcome everyone, no matter how you identify or whom you love, who wants to learn, grow and wrestle with the hard stuff of living as we practice healing, caring for and loving all of Creation

WORDS, PHOTOS & CREATIONS BY

My name is Lianna, I am the hands and heart behind Little Potato Creations I live and create all my projects right here in the heart of Port Moody!

I first picked up a crochet hook about 15 years ago. At that time, I mostly tried to make blankets and scarves, because at that time I found plushies were far too advanced. My very first attempt at amigurumi was an inside out pig, stitched with multi-coloured yarn and stuffed with an old T-shirt. He was a bit wonky, but I loved him. With practice I improved but, more often than not life, work, and raising my kids got in the way and I set the hobby aside for many years

“I crocheted a little dragon for my youngest’s Christmas gift. So many people loved it so much and I thought maybe I could turn this talent into more than just a hobby.”

In late 2022, while on maternity leave, I crocheted a little dragon for my youngest’s Christmas gift So many people loved it so much and I thought maybe I could turn this talent into more than just a hobby In early 2023, I booked my very first market at the Honeybee Festival in Cloverdale I had no idea what to expect, how many to make, how to price my items, or even how to set up a tent and table! The moment I felt the energy of the market, I was “HOOKED” The kindness of fellow vendors and the excitement of customers made me realize how much I loved this new adventure. From there, I began signing up for as many markets as I could, and Little Potato Creations was officially out in the world!

Beyond all the markets, orders and mountain of yarn at home, starting Little Potato Creations has changed my family’s life. It’s given me the opportunity to stay home with my kids, and the flexibility to care for my youngest, who has Autism. I’ve formed many friendships and connections I never expected, including a huge community of local crochet artists!

Looking ahead, I am hoping to grow over the years into a few more retail stores and have a booth at more largescale events I may even look into teaching crochet in the future

The best thing you can do is follow me on my socials and stay tuned for what’s next!

My Journey in Nails & Beyond

For almost a decade, I worked as an employee at Inlet Nail Studio Those years were filled with learning, growing, and - most importantly - building strong relationships with my clients Over time, the trust, love, and support I received from them gave me the courage to take a leap. When the opportunity came, I was lucky enough to take over the business. What was once only a dream became my realityand I couldn’t be more grateful.

Today, I am proud to run Inlet Nail Studio, a space where professionalism meets creativity I’m also an ACE Educator with the Akzentz brand, which allows me to share advanced techniques such as dry manicures and ombré designs with other professionals Education has always been close to my heart, and teaching gives me the chance to uplift other nail technicians and help them reach their goals

But my story isn’t just about nails. I am also a mom to two beautiful kids, a wife, and someone who deeply values family. My life is full, busy, and sometimes a little chaoticbut every moment reminds me why I started this journey in the first place: to build something meaningful, not only for myself but also for my family and my community.

At our salon, diversity is our strength We have a talented team of professionals who are not only skilled but also truly caring Hygiene and sanitation are always top priorities, and we make sure every client feels safe and comfortable For me, it’s more than just a beauty serviceit’s about creating an environment where people can relax, feel confident, and leave a little happier than when they came in.

My background also shapes the way I lead I know firsthand how challenging it can be to move to a new country, learn a new language, and figure out life while raising kids and working hard Because of this, I try my best to support my staff, especially those who are going through similar experiences I make sure they receive training, guidance, and encouragement so they can feel confident in their work and in their ability to provide excellent customer service

Owning Inlet Nail Studio has been a dream come true, but what truly makes it special is the people - the clients, the staff, and the community that surrounds us. Together, we’ve created more than a salon.

We’ve built a family

WORDS BY MATTEA CIFREK & BRYN WEINER

IMAGES PROVIDED BY PORT MOODY HERITAGE SOCIETY & ELLA DVN PHOTOGRAPHY

Nestled between Rocky Point Park and Brewers Row, POMO Museum is more than just a building filled with artifacts, it’s a living space where the community’s stories, memories, and spirit come alive Our museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Port Moody and the Inlet, while making those stories meaningful and engaging for today and tomorrow.

The museum’s story is one of community effort and shared passion. Since 1969, the Port Moody Heritage Society has worked to preserve the history of Port Moody and the Inlet.

The museum is housed in a live-in train station built in 1908 for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Originally, Port Moody was considered the Western Terminus of the CPR, and this little station played a big role in the city’s early days. It was where locals gathered to catch the train, send telegrams, or set their pocket watches to the correct time. (Fun fact: Canadian engineer Sir Sandford Fleming created the world’s system of time zones, introducing standard time so trains across North America could run on a consistent schedule). Today, we echo the spirit of that once-bustling station by actively contributing to our community through exhibits, events, and programming.

Our programs, such as Box Car Kids, Junior Detectives, and more, offer youth a chance to immerse themselves in storylines inspired by Port Moody’s history We welcome visitors to experience heritage-inspired events, like our upcoming Holiday Tea on the Train (December 7 & 14) and Holiday Floral Workshop (November 28 from 68pm), which have become annual traditions for many of our members and guests These programs keep history relevant while creating fun, new memories, making us more than just a museum, it makes us a gathering place For more information please check our website www.pomo.museum.

Recently, we launched our new exhibition Keep in Touch: Communications through the Ages, which explores the many ways humans have connected across time – from handwritten letters and telegraph clicks to radios, telephones, and even emojis Each room traces how communication has evolved, reminding us that at its core, it’s all about human connection. Nostalgic, interactive, and a little playful, this exhibition sparks conversations and often sends guests on a trip down memory lane. Be sure to stop by, or for a more thorough journey into our past, schedule a tour with your class, seniors’ group, daycare, or for a private tea.

The museum’s story is one of community effort and shared passion. Since 1969, the Port Moody Heritage Society has worked to preserve the history of Port Moody and the Inlet. When the museum opened its doors in 1983, devoted volunteers helped breathe new life into the station and transform it into a place where history could flourish. Today, our visitors, donors, and community partners remain at the heart of our work, along with our faithful volunteers and dedicated staff leading tours, caring for collections, and ensuring the museum is a welcoming space for all.

Meet our Feature Pet

Along came Bob

It might be because of his name, his scruffy looks, or that wagging tail and belly-up way he positions himself when seeing a friendly human that Bob has made friends all over Port Moody

Every morning, Bob contemplates from his balcony the inlet waking up, with traffic along Guildford Way increasing by the minute, and listens to the delivery trucks around Newport Village Soon, Bob is asking, or should we say demanding, to be taken down to start a new day

Sometimes, Bob's walks start around the Village, stopping for a treat and loving pettings from the fantastic people at Inlet Seafoods, who have known Bob since he was a little pup.

With a full belly and his heart content, Bob heads to the back of the City Hall and the library, stopping at the tennis courts to watch a match. It seems he never leaves without a tennis ball, generously gifted by a local player after witnessing Bob desperately running up and down behind the fence, hoping for a ball to come his way.

The next stop is watching a football game in the fields, and in the most distinctive Bob's style, he runs up and down behind the fence, hoping this time a novice player, dreaming of becoming the next Messi, kicks the ball with so much force that it lands in Bob's court So far, Bob has come home with a few tennis balls but has yet to bring home a football

Happy Pawlidays!

After giving up on his football dream, Bob leads the way to Noons Creek Hatchery, where Dave and the rest of the staff and volunteers say hello to him by name and offer the treats they always have on hand for all dog visitors

Between sniffles and barks, lifting his leg countless times, Bob makes his way to Old Orchard Along the way, he says hi to some dog peeps and human friends, and contemplates other trail runners, families, and the oh-so attractive bicycles that make him bark like nobody is listening

Bob likes adventure, and he is in his element hiking and swimming. Luckily, one of his favourite places, the Sasamat trail, is nearby.

Bob Emilio

At home, Bob is no different A very kind and energetic Cairn Terrier, whose playful and stubborn personality, pointy ears, black eyes and spiky fur have stolen our hearts since November of 2024. He might be a little too skilled at stealing dirty socks from the laundry basket, and a little too into biting rubbery shoe soles, but his love for dry sardines will make him drop anything he has in his mouth.

Bob is another one of us who came into our lives and filled the holes we did not know existed with so much honest love that it is difficult to imagine what life was like before he came to complete our family
