bread, and red wine. It was a truly memorable experience. Most of the years, though, Jun and I have stayed at home, and used the quiet of these days to de-stress, to catch up on our reading and writing and sleeping, to lengthen our prayer times, and grow closer to each other and to God. This is a time of year when I reflect on the many instances where I have journeyed together with my Savior and walked in His footsteps. I thank Him for the times that He has carried me across the difficult periods in my life and held me close when sorrows or

troubles have burdened me. In my meditation I relive the many times He has left His fingerprints on the colorful canvas of my life, when He has guided me through the dark valleys, when He has held my hand in friendship, when we have drawn pictures of joy and hope in the sand together. To me Holy Week is a treasured time every year to retrace the journey He chose to take, from heaven to earth, from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky, so that I, and all Christians, would have the hope of heaven to nourish and strengthen our hearts. It is a time to remember and accept that without the Good Fridays in our lives, we would not

with the question even as we do not share the hostility of the crowds to Jesus: Aren’t we sometimes indifferent when we should have been zealous, putting ourselves at a long distance when we should be near him? What a role are we playing in the event of Good Friday? It is suggested that: There is little use to read the be able to fully celebrate and enjoy the Easter Sundays. My prayer for this week is for all of us: may our Good Fridays be few and our Easter Sundays be many and glorious!

Gospel narrative of the crucifixion unless we use it as a mirror to reflect the sin in our own souls. Secondly, is it not true what the crowds said that “He saved others”? Of course they were taunting him when they said it- “he saved others, himself he cannot save.” Indeed, our Lord saved countless numbers of people, but the words spoken in derision have been established as the highest compliment. Up to today, we speak of Jesus as saving humankind by his death on the cross. The crowds were of course mistaken. How could they be so blind? How stupidly Jesus was judged by his enemies even when Jesus had healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind, and preached the Gospel of salvation to the poor? “Himself he cannot save!” they shouted, but the point is he could not save himself because he would not save himself. As St. Paul writes to the Philippians, Jesus submitted himself willingly to the

pains of the cross, despising the shame. You see, the same Jesus who has walked out of history into our lives, offers healing, companionship, transformation as he transformed Zacchaeus, Mary Magdalene, and Peter, who had denied him at a crucial moment. Nevertheless, what the crowds shouted turned out to be a perfect tribute to the Suffering Servant for it underscored the necessity for sacrifice... vicarious sacrifice in our behalf. Are we all called to the follow Jesus in this way... in the way of the cross? Jesus had said even before the Good Friday event; “Anyone who comes after me must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” This word is addressed to all of us- to the old and the young, the learned and the uneducated, the rich and the poor-for, as St. Paul puts it, Jesus died that we his followers will not only live for ourselves but for him. Jesus died

his way of sacrificial death that we, too, may die with him. But our best sacrifices are, just as i said, our human best. The most poignant story of Jesus’ sacrifice is recorded in the prophetic words of Isaiah (53): He was despired and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our inquites; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the inquity of us all. And Jesus did not save himself.
