This past weekend marked the official opening of the summer season and what a weekend it was! Despite the cool weather, every venue at the Club was bustling: the Eagle’s Nest was alive with Members reconnecting, tee times on the golf course were filled, racquet courts echoed with action, wellness classes were well-attended, and even the pool saw activity despite the chill It was wonderful to welcome back familiar faces from the Talon Tribe, including returning J-1 and H2B staff, as well as greet new team members joining us for the season. The energy radiating from the Club is truly invigorating!
I’m also pleased to share some important news. As I mentioned in my April message, the Board was recently notified that the Club’s property valuation had increased dramatically from $2 million to $100 million which would have raised our annual tax bill from $58,000 to over $250,000, a staggering 250% increase. With only weeks to respond, the Board acted swiftly, engaging Attorney Steve Spence and Golf Property Analysts’ Larry Hirsh Working closely with the General Manager/COO, C, this team compiled and presented extensive data to the County.
I’m happy to report that our appeal to the County’s referee and the Board of Assessment Director was successful Our assessed property value has been reduced to $11,120,800 an almost 90% decrease. This is a significant victory, though it is not yet the final step; further clarification is needed before we fully understand its implications for our 2025 tax obligations We are deeply grateful to C, Steve, and Larry for their leadership
and diligence, and we will continue to keep the membership informed.
In other positive news, we made significant strides in reducing the budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2025, which represents a marked improvement over the trend reported earlier in the year. Thanks to the hard work of management, the Talon Tribe, the Finance Committee, and the Treasurer, we course-corrected effectively. As we launch into the new fiscal year, I’m proud to report that we are currently exceeding projected operating revenues across all departments and appreciative of the teams’ due diligence to make this happen.
Additionally, with strong Board oversight and excellent follow-up from staff, we have significantly reduced accounts receivable over 97% of Members are now current, and no accounts are more than 60 days overdue.
On another encouraging front, our Certificate of Incorporation (COI) Ad Hoc Committee has completed its 18-month review. They are now ready to present a revised COI that ensures alignment with both Delaware law and IRS standards This initiative has been a top priority during my presidency, especially as the previous COI failed to pass membership approval on three occasions.
In the coming weeks, Members who participate on Committees will receive details about the Amended and Restated COI to give the Ad-Hoc
Sharon Covington Board President
Committee feedback Then, in July, a COI fact sheet with additional information will be sent to the entire membership. Please remember: a successful vote requires an absolute majority of 50 1% of all Stockholders in favor Abstaining or failing to vote will count as a “no” vote. Crucially, there are no changes to existing stockholder rights in the proposed Amended and Restated COI.
I want to express the Board’s sincere appreciation and thanks to the COI Ad Hoc Committee John Caruso, William “Buck” Booth, Dan Coar, Dan Krausz, Nancy Freebery, and Michael Stakias along with GM/COO C and Membership and Communications Director Bethany Ackerman for their tireless work on this important effort.
I am, also, happy to tell you that RBCC will be featured in the Summer issue of the Golf Association of America (GAP) Magazine. The article will cover the Club’s Centennial year including the history, happenings, and future plans. You can receive a free copy of the GAP Magazine by subscribing here We thank Dalton Balthaser, GAP Assistant
Communications Director, for visiting RBCC and telling our story.
On a final note, as your Club President, I regularly hear member feedback, including questions and concerns about Board policies and recent changes. I’m grateful that the majority of members who reach out do so with thoughtful insights, and many express appreciation once the reasoning behind Board decisions is explained. It’s important to note that nearly all decisions made by the Board are unanimous, guided by what we believe is in the best interest of the Club and firmly rooted in our Core Values of Stewardship, Caring, and Community.
In the club industry, we often distinguish between “customers” and “owners.” Customers tend to focus on personal preferences—what benefits me. Owners, on the other hand, take a broader, more forwardthinking view, considering what best supports the Club’s long-term health and collective success. We encourage all Members to embrace the mindset of ownership for the continued strength and prosperity of RBCC.
As summer is the Club’s most lucrative season, we rely on strong Member participation to sustain operations—particularly in Food & Beverage. There are many fantastic opportunities to dine at the Club and/or attend memorable events. If you haven’t already, please explore the new Take-Out Catering Menu, a great option for entertaining at home while supporting your Club.
The Centennial year is off to a fantastic start— with much more to come! I look forward to celebrating these milestones and making memories with all of you.
C's Poem of the Month

We’re also thrilled to bring back some of our signature June events: a tribute band for the “Swifties”, the Father’s Day Cookout, celebrating dads with delicious food and family fun, the MemberMember Tournament, the Talon Cup (let the friendly rivalries begin!), the New Members Racquets Mixer Cocktail Party (welcoming the latest additions to our RBCC family), plus the specialty dinners that await all month long.

June at RBCC: Welcome Back to Our Beachside Paradise!
The season has officially arrived and there's no place quite like RBCC in June!
As our beloved community returns from Florida and many of you begin your weekend journeys from the Washington, D C area, Wilmington and Philly, the Club is buzzing with energy, excitement, and that unmistakable RBCC spirit.
Our golf course is in spectacular shape, thanks to the exceptional work of Alan and his team, and is ready for early morning tee times, friendly competitions, and peaceful afternoon rounds. On the courts, Terri has a fantastic racquets season planned, so whether it’s tennis or pickleball there’s a game waiting for you
Over by the pool deck, Nathan and the aquatics team are making a splash, welcoming you and your families to cool off, relax, and soak up the bay’s warm rays And for our youngest Members, the Talon Tribe has launched a lineup of camps and kids programming that’s better than ever.

A friendly reminder when in the Clubhouse: our newly approved dress code is now in effect Dress/golf hoodies are welcome in all casual dining areas but not permitted in the 1925 Lounge or the 19th Hole Bar. Thank you for helping us maintain the standards that make RBCC such a special place
We’re also celebrating a big win for the Club after an initial shock a few months ago. The Club’s property value assessment appeal was successful! After conducting an independent appraisal and presenting to the county referee, the Club’s value was adjusted to $11.1M a substantial victory compared to the initial $100M proposal. We’re still awaiting the

Since 1971, 501(c)7 tax-exempt clubs have been instructed by the Internal Revenue Service to follow Revenue Procedure 71-17 in documenting the difference between Member and Nonmember gross receipts, so following Rev. Proc. 71-17 is acceptable to use. Given RBCC falls under this category, when hosting an event, large sports group (i.e. golf, tennis or pickleball) or even a party of 8 or more guests in the dining room, a 71-17 form needs to be signed by the Member of RBCC. The Club is working on standardizing this as part of the reservation process. However, in the meantime, please be aware of this as the Talon Tribe continues to implement this form within day-to-day operations.

Match Play Strategies
Play the Player, Not the Course
You don’t need to beat the course—just your opponent on each hole.
If your opponent is in trouble (e.g., hits into the water or out of bounds), you can play more conservatively.
If they’re in a good spot, you may need to take on more risk to tie or win the hole.
Control the Momentum
Winning a hole can create psychological pressure. Use that to your advantage. Stay steady emotionally—don’t overreact to losing a hole or a bad shot.
Confidence and body language matter.
Pick Your Battles
You don’t have to win every hole—just more than your opponent. Sometimes it’s smart to concede a hole early and save energy or effort for upcoming holes.
“Dormie” strategy: If you’re up by as many holes as are left to play, you just need to halve the remaining holes.
Be Aware of the Match Situation
Tailor your strategy to the score:
All square: Play steady and keep pressure on.
Down: Take more aggressive lines and go for birdies.
Up: Be smart, avoid big mistakes, and make your opponent beat you.
Use Concessions Wisely
You can concede a stroke, hole, or match at any time.
Conceding a short putt can throw off your opponent’s rhythm—or giving them one early and then not later can add pressure.
Adapt on the Fly
You see your opponent’s play before making some of your own decisions.
Example: If they miss the fairway, you might take a safer club off the tee.
On the green: If they miss their putt, you can focus more on lag putting for a halve.
Know the course well – Understand which holes offer birdie chances and which are best played safe.
Practice match play mentally – Simulate pressure situations in your practice rounds.
Stay in the moment – Match play is a hole-by-hole battle. A bad hole doesn’t ruin your scorecard—just one
RBCC has retained its designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat, and protect natural resources. “RBCC has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for preserving the natural heritage of the area by protecting the local watershed and providing a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property," said Christine Kane, CEO at Audubon International.
The aeration went well, and the greens were back up to their regular speed within 2 weeks. The cooldown in the weather slowed the last little bit of recovery but it was more an aesthetic issue with the little dimples here and there. It also removed a lot of the grainer older bentgrass cultivars, which is great as it will help to have more consistent greens in the long term.
The project on hole 15 is almost complete. We have to add a few areas of fine fescue but the sod farm does not have any ready for harvest. It should be available by mid/late June. However, the areas are out of the way and only an aesthetic feature so will not affect the opening of the hole. The aim is to open it for the Talon Cup provided the sod is rooted enough for safe playing. As I write this, it is rooting fast so it looks like it should be ready bar any weather-related hiccups. Once it is open we will still have to fully get the turf grown in and get it down to fairway height. This will take a little time so do not get used to the shaggy soft surface that is there when it opens!
We have a full complement of Junior Pros this season, and I am very excited for the level of professionalism and enthusiasm this team will bring to our programs in 2025! Caleb Anthony will be returning from his sophomore year at the University of Delaware! Caleb was an outstanding addition to our team in 2024 and I am thrilled he is returning this summer for another season. Joining the RBCC Junior Pro team is Tim Holt. Tim attends Salisbury University and is a member of their Tennis team. Tim is very excited to bring his skills to the RBCC racquets program and I am elated to have him as part of our staff.
Angie Falise will continue to be a part of the Racquets Shop staff but has decided to reduce her hours. With this, we have hired Medina Alijagic to handle both shop operations and assist with juniors’ and ladies’ programs. Medina has a strong background in junior tennis and has recently moved to the Lewes area. I am excited she has decided to dust off her racquet and join our team to build on our junior and ladies events.
Seasonal Racquets Professional, Bill Wissinger, is back with us again this year. Both Bill and Terri are available for both tennis and pickleball lessons effective immediately. Clinics are also available on a weekly basis. Fees for both lessons and clinics can be found on the Member’s website under Racquets < Racquets Fees or by clicking here.
It is great to have the Racquets family out and active after a bit of a rainy and chilly spring. Despite the poor weather start, it did not dampen the spirits and attendance at our early summer season events. All of our May social events were well attended for both play and cocktails and the Annual Kick-Off Party had nearly 100 attendees who enjoyed a great morning of tennis or pickleball followed by a wonderful cookout with live music. It was certainly a great day to be together and start our season off with a bang!
As many of you are now aware, the tickets for the Frances Tiafoe Pro-Am and Charity Exhibition event went on sale in late May and by this time are likely spoken for! We are so excited to have the opportunity to bring Frances and his family to our premier facility. Please remember to join us at the reception on July 16 to meet and greet with Frances Tiafoe Sr. and hear the story of how we met and have stayed friends for the past 25 years. I am beyond excited to feature this event during the 100-year anniversary of RBCC. it will truly be an incredible couple days. th

Marty was first introduced to Tai Chi in 2004 while living in the beautiful mountains of Montana. He signed up for a beginner's class after seeing an advertisement in a local newspaper and was instantly hooked on the deliberate graceful postures and controlled breathing of this gentle martial art. Over the next few years, he deepened his knowledge of Tai Chi by learning various styles such as Yang and Sun, and by gaining an appreciation of the depth and richness of Qigong exercises. After moving back to the gorgeous beaches Delaware in 2013, he had a desire to convey his passion for this ancient Chinese form to others and studied to become an instructor. Marty cherishes residing and teaching in the delightful Rehoboth Beach area and strives daily to embrace and share the gentle mindbody philosophy of Tai Chi.

Morgan started practicing yoga in the summer of 2016 by following along to classes on YouTube. She then dove into the hot yoga scene shortly after in the DC area, to find balance from a demanding job and also as a reprieve from the hustle of city life. After coming down with a series of chronic health issues in her early twenties, it seemed life had a different plan in store for her. Part of her healing journey involved enrolling in a life-changing yoga teacher training program. Morgan earned her 200-hour in Ashtanga and Vinyasa under Jesse Cassady, Brooke Wyman, and Kat Wyman at SoulFire Collective in 2021. Shortly after, she started teaching at Black Swan Yoga in Houston, TX, followed
by teaching and furthering her education in Gentle Yoga, The Kaia Yoga Method, and Hands-on Adjustments under experts in the field at Kaia Yoga in Connecticut. She is also certified in Reiki and is a certified Holistic Health Coach. Morgan teaches on how to breathe properly and the importance of the breath in our everyday existence. Her goal is to provide you with the tools to strive for more patience, peace, and understanding both on and off the mat.

“The Gumbo Crawl began in 2012, an idea of the original owners of Purple Parrot, to celebrate the Mardi Gras season. Each year, a growing list of restaurants in downtown Rehoboth participate in the tradition. Now organized by Rehoboth Beach Main Street, the event’s tickets sell out each year. In 2025, a record 23 different restaurants created their version of Gumbo and participants “crawl” from one location to another, sampling gumbo and often having an adult beverage (usually a hurricane) at each stop. The last 2 years have had the same 3 winners: 1st Blue Moon, 2nd Above the Dunes, and 3rd Mariachi. This “krewe” wears “RBCC Krewe” beads while participating. I think what we enjoy most about it is gathering a large group of friends together (away from the Club) to celebrate friendship, a little bit of New Orleans culture and flavor, and the beginning of the spring season. It’s definitely something we look forward to each year.”
