PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The season has officially begun with the Memorial Day activities and I hope everyone is ready for a great summer at RBCC. The Talon Tribe and Board have been hard at work to make this the best year ever! We hope you can see and will enjoy all the improvements to the beautiful campus. When I visit the Club, it is wonderful to see so many Members reconnecting with friends, looking so happy, and enjoying all that RBCC has to offer.

As you should know by now, the Board and Management have spent the winter working on the future sustainability of the Club. With our new Strategic Plan front and center; we formed Vision 2030 that conveys where we are headed and how we get there. We have attempted to be strategic and transparent in our communication with membership through member surveys, Coffees with C, Newsletters, Board Briefs, focus groups, and informal conversations. It has been an exciting and exhausting process! At the same time, it has been a wonderful opportunity for me to become acquainted with so many of you from those who participated in the focus groups to those who have contacted me personally to discuss concerns, as well as support, for the strategic changes we are proposing.

Next Saturday, you will be receiving our findings and recommendations on initiating Capital Dues, which will require a membership vote to approve. Between Member participation on the Ad Hoc Capital Dues Committee, Board, Management, and RBCC Committees, we have literally spent thousands of hours working through an understanding of the issues and deciding upon an amount we feel is necessary, fair, and equitable. All this information will be presented, clearly to you, in a publication on June 8th and followed up with four live Member Q&A meetings. The deadline to vote will be Saturday, June 29.

It is crucial that we receive a vote of YES on this initiative. I have heard some Members talk about all the changes that are going on at the Club, wondering if they really are necessary. As I wrote in my March letter, change is hard and may create anxiety and displeasure. What one Member thinks is change for the good, another may think unnecessary. While I believe we can do a better job of communicating necessary changes before they happen (i.e., golf activities, course maintenance, etc.), we are doing our best to listen to and address these concerns when you tell us about them.

On the weighty issue of capital dues, the need for this change is absolute and requires us to come together for the future of the Club with an open mind to understand and receive the reasoning. My favorite optimist, Ted Lasso, reminds us, “Doing the right thing is never the wrong thing.” Please be a good steward for our next 100 years and vote YES for capital dues.

I look forward to meeting and seeing more of you over the summer!

GENERAL MANAGER’S UPDATE

As the summer season starts and we begin to see more faces, we hope you’ll be pleased with how we’ve listened to your feedback, through surveys, Coffee with C, and in-passing conversations. Why? Because our main objective is to make sure you really enjoy being here, and being here often is the best response we can get.

C's Poem of the Month

"Peacefully
The quiet stars came out, one after one; The holy twilight fell upon the sea, The summer day was done" - Celia Thaxter

Jovial June… the time when everyone agrees we are truly in season. It feels surreal how the Board, the Committees, and the Talon Tribe “race to the finish line” of when everything needs to be done and ready for Memorial Day, only to realize that the same finish line instantly becomes the start line for an intense summer season.

If this year’s Memorial Day weekend is any indication of how busy the rest of the summer will be, we’re in for a record one. We had outstanding numbers for lunch and dinner covers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, packed racquet courts and a waiting list for the Racquets Kickoff Celebration, full tee sheets for golf, and topped the participation level for the Memorial Day Cookout, with over 600 covers, despite the fog rolling over the Bay.

The “off season” work efforts of the entire Leadership had both strategic goals like the extremely important Capital Dues Initiative with the kickoff publication being distributed on June 8, and operational goals like improved playing conditions for racquets and golf, improved pool experience, added fitness offerings, and the diverse daily menu options It is also the first season when we could expand the Club hours to the max, being open 7 days a week for the restaurant. We didn’t stop there at this “expansion,” but also decided to grow the Happy Hour locations, more menu options, an even higher diversity of events, and now we’re even planning for free food for children to entice our younger families to move us up the list when it comes to their dining choice.

Whether you’ve been around the entire year or just returning to RBCC, we’ll be here to welcome you and sometimes remind you of our Club rules. But hopefully, not too often if we can get your support. We’ll also always be here to answer your questions, introduce you to new Tribe staff members with around 90 new smiling faces on campus, “feed” on your feedback and overall make this year a memorable one for the end of our Club’s first centennial.

The entire Leadership Team wishes everyone a happy season. We’re hoping to see you soon and see you often.

Thank you for the enormous support!

TALON TRIBE UPDATE

The Talon Tribe is thrilled to welcome back our seasonal staff! Over the past three weeks, we have rehired and newly hired over 50 employees from all over the US and the world to staff the Golf Course Maintenance, Golf Shop, Outside Services, Food & Beverage and the Pool. We have employees hailing from Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ecuador, El Salvador, Romania, Montenegro, South Africa, Jamaica and even the Philippines this year. They are all excited to be here and ready to provide you with the must-have membership experience this summer.

We are also excited to welcome the Club’s new Controller, Heather Feather who will be assisting in running the day-to-day financial operations at the Club Heather Feather was born and raised here in Sussex County, Delaware between the Fenwick beaches and a farm in Frankford. Heather loves both the land and sea, she has a 26-acre farm in Georgetown with horses, chickens and goats, and in her free times tries to spend as much time as possible on her boat fishing and enjoying water sports.

Heather received her degree from Salisbury University and has worked in finance for various industries over her career including public accounting, homeowners associations and, most recently, manufacturing. Heather is excited to learn the ins and outs of finance in the private club industry. Welcome Heather!

FINANCE CORNER

Monthly Billing Statements

Be on the lookout for a change in the appearance of your monthly billing statement As one of the most requested upgrades noted from the recent Member survey, the finance team will be working on a project with our software provider to provide the Members with an easier to read billing statement. The plan is to: Make it clearer of the total balance that is carrying forward to the current statement, 1. Remove the many subtotals on the statement so that is doesn’t appear to be charging duplicates of dues billing, 2 List charges in the order of occurrence. 3.

Additionally, the email that notifies the Members of the availability of the next billing statement will acknowledge that there are Members who have established a recurring electronic payment method on the RBCC website. Any questions can be addressed to me at finance@rehobothbeachcc.com or (302) 227 – 3811 ext. 231

ALL THINGS FOOD & BEVERAGE

On Friday, June 14, a Neil Diamond Tribute Band will entertain after a three-course prixfixe dinner. It should be a fun evening at the Club! The cookout season on Sundays starts with a bang with the RBCC Car Show on Sunday the 9. To RSVP your vehicle, contact Spaska. The Club’s Father’s Day Cookout follows the Car Show on Sunday, June 16. We always have a huge crowd that evening so be certain to make your reservations now. The Sunday Cookouts have been popular and attendance has grown year after year. Look for the new pig roaster this cookout season producing whole chickens, pork spareribs and of course, whole pigs.

June is here and we are putting the finishing touches on the plans for a spectacular season.

“Happy Hour” will continue all summer in the Eagles Nest as well as the Bayside Bar from 5pm to 6pm Tuesday through Saturday. Cosi is dedicated to regularly changing the wine and spirits menu throughout the season.

The pool food service will be a little different this year with the Upper Deck Sweets & Snacks, formally known as the Snack Bar or Snack Shack, offering soft drinks, fruit flavored soft serve, hand-dipped ice cream, novelties, soft pretzels and healthy snacks. The Bayside Bar, on the Bayside Grill Patio will supply a full bar as it did last year. The salads, sandwiches and pizza will be prepared in the Bayside Grill kitchen. We would prefer a “soft” opening but Memorial Day Weekend will not provide us that opportunity .

Trivia Night on Wednesdays returns on June 5

The dinner buffet for $35 per person opens at 6pm with play starting at 7pm. The buffet will consist of a carve station, hot entrees and sides, assorted seasonal salads, mini desserts, cookies and a sundae bar.

We look forward to seeing everyone this outdoor season and as always please advise all of your guests about our dress code policy. You can access the policy for dining at the Clubhouse by logging on to the website, going to dining and events, dress code and dining venues.

See you around the club!

CULINARY UPDATE

Lovers of Fine Quality Food! –

Thank you for trusting the culinary team to provide you with tasty food from our menus, lunch specials, Member Nights, social events, take-out and more. We want to thank you all for your support over the winter months. As we head into the summer season the culinary team is eager to show you the new changes.

First and foremost, I would like to take this time to tell you about some excitement happening in the Clubhouse kitchen with great additions to the Tribe. This includes the new Banquet Chef Zack Flores and returning from Florida Dawyne Johnson. With Dawyne back at RBCC, keep an eye out for some pop-up sushi specials and beautiful fruit carvings (such as at the Memorial Day Cookout). Adam Watts and Chris Martin are also joining the Tribe so look for some of their creativity on the special menus

Once a month, the culinary team will switch up items on the Dinner and Lunch Menus. In order to distinguish new menu items, there is now a small RBCC eagle on the menus to the left of new items. Coming back by popular

demand is the Yellow Tomato Gazpacho but with a twist so be sure to try it out. Chef Margaret has expanded the Lunch Menu to add more breakfast items and Chef Chuck’s enhancements on the Lunch Buffet for $19 is a must for before or after your round of golf, hitting a racquets clinic, or a long day at the pool.

In addition to the monthly menu changes, we will have a Happy Hour Monday Menu from 4pm-8pm every Monday starting in June! Since this is new for the 2024 season, we hope to see Members enjoying our favorite happy hour bites such as guacamole and chips, buffalo cauliflower, RBCC cheesesteak, chicken piccata and more.

We are making waves at the pool this year; the culinary staff will be assisting with the food offerings served at the pool area with the new Upper Deck pool menu. We have added some new items, but your favorites are still here, so be sure to ask your cocktail server to see the menu. The culinary team wants to enhance your member experience more by having burger bars on weekends with RBCC chef’s grilling out.

WINE, SPIRITS & BEVERAGES

Again, we thank you for your patronage and are open to answering any questions you may have. Should you have additional questions, or further recommendations please reach out to Carolyn@rehobothbeachcc.com

scores to help keep your pace up during the round. The pace of play at RBCC is 4 hours. If you find your group is out of position, a player assistant will notify you. If the player assistant speaks with the group twice throughout 18 holes and your total pace time is over 4 hours and 20 minutes, a letter from the Golf Committee will follow. If two rounds are recorded over 4 hours and 20 minutes this could result in certain restrictions on starting times being made for that group. The full Pace of Play Policy is listed in the Member Handbook.

A New Face in Golf:

As the days grow longer and the sun's warmth breathes life into the greens, the longanticipated season has arrived. With the promise of fresh challenges and renewed camaraderie, our golfing community should be excited about the opportunities that lie ahead This season brings not only the excitement of competition but also the newfound friendships that will be created. Let's get into what the new season holds for us.

Refresh Yourself on Local Rules:

As we prepare for the season ahead, it is essential to revisit and reaffirm our local rules to ensure fairness and integrity on the course You can view all the local rules within the Membership Handbook as well as the Club website. One question that we have recently received was regarding the new flower beds that you see on the course. Without the pilings around the bed, the question has been asked as to how you proceed if your ball comes to rest in the flower bed. Within our local rules you will see that flower beds are treated as ground under repair, so you will be entitled to free relief under this rule.

Pace of Play:

Please be aware of the new pace of play policy that has been put in place by the Golf Committee to help ensure that all Members enjoy their time on the course. We ask that all Members play ready golf and use proper max

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Rick McCall as our new PGA Assistant Golf Professional. With a wealth of experience and a passion for the game, Rick brings a fresh perspective and a drive for excellence to the Club. His expertise will undoubtedly enrich our golfing community, offering valuable insights and guidance to players of all levels. Rick will be managing the Ladies’ Day groups and Twilight as well as running the Junior Golf and Clinic programs. Join us in extending a warm welcome.

Upcoming:

You may have noticed new wooden boxes located near the steps of the Golf Shop. It may be hard to tell what they are, but they are replacing our old shoe cleaners that we have had for the past several years. The new cleaners will use compressed air to clean off the bottom of your golf spikes after a round. Always remember the best way to keep your shoes clean is by visiting the Locker Rooms and having Mark polish your shoes and replace your spikes. We hope to have the new shoes cleaners operational very soon.

In Closing:

There is so much to tell everyone I sometimes find it hard to fit everything into a monthly newsletter. To help continue to keep the membership as well informed as possible, Alan and I will continue utilizing videos to show and discuss anything new on the course or within the operation. Please stay tuned. We are excited about the upcoming season, and we look forward to sharing the enhancements with the entire membership!

GREENS DEPARTMENT UPDATE

Spring is fully in the air and the course has greened up nicely. The weather has been a mix of everything, but as a Superintendent I’m ok with the cooler nights as the summer heat will be here soon enough to add stress to the turf!

The big projects are all wrapped up and it is nice to be back into maintenance mode. When time allows, we still plan to do some small projects during the summer. Most of it is tidying up areas so they will be just an extension of regular maintenance and the work will mostly go unnoticed until they are complete!

The texture management on the fairways is producing great results so far with the turf starting to stand up better for the ball to sit up on. We will continue to do it for as long as the weather allows. It will be a slow process to get them to where I want but they are on their way. We also started some similar work on the greens. While overall they are in good health, we need to thin out the turf surface to get them to be consistently firm, running smooth and fast. To do it right, it is a slow process but like with the fairways, we are off to a great start.

There have been a few comments about the rough being too long. We have caught up on the mowing, and the height of cut has remained the same, however, we have been feeding the roughs to get them to thicken up and become more consistent. The areas where it already has thickened up gives the impression that they are longer, so the density is making them a little harder, rather than the height. Like with everything else, it will take a little time to get them to where we want them and once there, we can adjust the heights if needed.

With the spring aeration schedule change I wanted to explain the timeline This year, the Club is closing for three full (12+ hour) workdays. This schedule allows us to not compromise the process and allows the greens to sit a day before needing to topdress. By closing the course, we can get all the greens done in one day, as opposed to stopping midway through like in previous years. The Dryjects, machines that inject sand into the profile to firm up the surface and break up the rootzone soil, are scheduled for Wednesday which used to take two days but by being closed, we can do it much more efficiently ensuring the greens can be as good as they can be when we open back up after Thursday. If everything goes to plan, we can use any spare time to also get some detail work completed, which would normally get pushed to the side with the busy course.

I mentioned in my May newsletter article that we pushed the greens aeration until after Memorial Day to make the most of the prime soil temperatures for healing. With the turf being able to heal quicker it means that we will have greatly reduced the down time due to aeration which increases the accessibility to the course. Since it is the first year with the date change, I do not plan to get too aggressive with the process. We will be pulling ½” cores (as opposed to the ¼” in the past) as they can be filled better with sand – maximizing the process by providing clean channels for water and air to get to the roots. The Dryject will follow, then topdressing and to get them to heal! Once I get a feel for how it goes this year, we can adapt the timing and process going forward to ensure the best result for the turf and the RBCC Members.

As always if you have any questions, please email me superintendent@rehobothbeachcc.com

RACQUETS DEPARTMENT UPDATE

As I sit to write this newsletter article, it is another rainy, cold day at the Racquets Facility. I hope as you sit and read this, it is a much brighter, warmer and sun-filled day! It seems as if all areas of the Club have started a bit more slowly this year and racquets is no exception. Between the rainy and cold weather, Members returning home to Delaware from their winter season and kids still in school, we are beyond eager to welcome everyone back!

This year, the Club has expanded the Youth Summer Activities and the racquets team is eager to make this an action-packed and funfilled time for the young tennis and pickleball players. The camps are filling quickly, so hopefully you have enrolled your children and/or grandchildren in one or more racquets camps and we will have an opportunity to grow their tennis and pickleball enthusiasm. All of our junior clinics will also begin the first week of July. To view the junior clinics schedule for the season, visit the Club website or click here.

The first events of the season were held in May and despite the terrible weather, many Members turned out with sun shined spirits and we enjoyed a little tennis and pickleball followed by happy hour at the Club. I am so pleased with the early participation from the membership and looking forward to even greater levels when everyone returns to RBCC!

Please check out our upcoming events in June We have the Mixed Double Tennis Championships – start recruiting your partner now and sign up on ForeTees for the June 15 and 16 event. Later in June we have the Ladies Member-Guest day which will include 3 hours of play in either Tennis or Pickleball. With all the improvements at the Racquets Facility, I hope you proudly invite a guest to this wonderful event. Play is from 9am – 12pm followed by lunch at the Clubhouse with awards and favors included. Please sign up on ForeTees, I would really like to see this event shine this year Racquets Gents, we haven’t forgotten you – your day is July 21st!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the courts!

POOL UPDATE

note the hours of operation seven days a week at the pool will be 7:00am-9:00am for adult swim (no lifeguards) and open swim for everyone from 10:30am-8:00pm with lifeguards. This season we also have a new Head Lifeguard Mason Sauers who is very educated on the inner workings of pools and the chemicals needed to correctly maintain them, so if you have any questions for him feel free to ask!

I am so happy that the summer season is here! Many of you may recognize or know me from serving at the Pool and working in the Clubhouse, and this year I am honored to start the season as the Outside Services Manager.

New Offerings

The Food and Beverage Leadership team worked hard this winter to create a new concept for dining at the Pool. This now includes a new Upper Deck menu, taking orders poolside for F&B through cocktail servers on tablets, and the food being prepared in the Bayside Grill open kitchen concept rather than the pool “snack shack.”

The “pool shack window,” now referred to as the Upper Deck Sweets and Snacks will feature grab and go snack. One of the biggest additions to the Upper Deck Sweets and Snacks is the Dole Whip Soft Serve machine which will have rotating fruity flavors each week. Just a reminder if you are heading into the Bayside Grille to grab the lunch buffet, be sure to cover up before entering the building.

The Tribe

I am pleased to say we have a wonderful team working at the pool this season. After welcoming over 100 Members every day over Memorial Day weekend, the team got to experience a busy pool deck and how things operate. Depending on the time of day, lifeguards will be on the pool deck, so please

Swim Team and Swimming Lessons

Don’t forget to sign up your children and grandchildren to the RBCC Dolphins Swim Team. The Swim Team will practice from 9am to 10am Monday to Friday starting June 17. If you’re interested in booking swimming lessons you can contact the Club’s Swim Instructor Chrissie Maughan via a phone call or text at 410-739-8707. Chrissie personalizes all swimming lessons and instruction times based on availability.

Events at the Pool

Lastly, some of the big events that are coming this summer are the Last Day of School Pool Party on June 11, the annual July 3 Bike Parade and Pool Party, the July 19 Ice Cream Social, and on August 16 a Family Pool Party.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Upper Deck and pool events this season!
