I recently had the wonderful honor to be at the birth of our 9th grandchild. Having spent my career helping people in their journey to have a family, there is nothing so awe-inspiring as witnessing the miracle of birth and the creation of a new life. I start with sharing this story as I have also felt a comparable synergistic feeling of new life this past month at RBCC, as we move into our busy summer season, and wanted to share some thoughts.
To begin, the Capital Needs Funding Initiative was launched in early June with the stewardship publication, followed up by Member Q&A Meetings, Coffee with C and informal member discussions. The Board, Management, and all who worked tirelessly over the winter on this endeavor have been deeply appreciative of membership engagement to understand the need, the positive recognition of its importance in the sustainability of the Club, and especially in the shift to hearing so many of you say, “How can we ensure we get the vote out so this passes?” Consequently, the Board listened and has responded by extending the discussion and voting period to July 22 while also adding additional Q&A meetings, to ensure every opportunity for Members to participate in the decision. The challenge is to make sure we have enough voter turnout to secure a quorum for the votes to count. So PLEASE VOTE, VOTE YES, and tell all your friends the same!!
Walking around the campus, I am so excited to see all the children having a blast in the various camp activities that Spaska and the Talon Tribe have organized. Moving over to our Racquet’s Facility, tennis and pickleball has seen a big uptick with more Members enjoying all Terri has to offer. The Pool area is bustling with Members soaking up the sun, swimming, and evening Swim Team meets are packing guests in. Pat’s normal golf programs continue to keep most Members busy with new
additions, like the Friday Putt and Wine evening and the Monday Twilight, really taking off. The Fitness Center and Wellness Programs offer so many wonderful classes and opportunities all day long to keep us healthy and active. And, even in the Ladies’ and Men’s Locker Rooms, the card and games continue to keep Members engaged during hot summer days. Member Night dinner on Tuesday, Trivia Wednesday, special wine dinners and events, cookouts, etc, round out our vibrant Member experience this summer. There are so many things to choose from, please come out and participate in all RBCC has to offer.

Our biggest Club event, The July 4th Celebration, is right around the corner. This year, I would like to introduce a new event, which I hope turns into a tradition here at RBCC – a Member reading of the Declaration of Independence prior to the beginning of our cookout. The reading will take place around 5:30pm in the Ballroom, with individual Members who wish to volunteer reading sections from the Declaration of Independence. The document is quite short and takes about 12-15 minutes to read. When was the last time you read this cornerstone of our democracy, what does it say, and why is it considered the most important article ever written in America along with our Constitution? Come hear and participate, bring your children and grandchildren, and begin your Fourth of July celebration with a real Patriotic kickoff.
C
fireworks addition and the record number of participants, we’ve decided to get some help from our local State Troopers to control the Club entrances and to have the Club’s bus shuttle the East Side Drive and West Side Drive participants to assist with the parking situation. Remember, we still only have 250 parking spots to be shared by Members and staff.
" O beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain, For purple mountains majesty
Above thy fruited plain! America! America!
God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"
America The Beautiful
July is synonymous with the middle of the summer, and indeed so, it is by far the Club’s busiest month of the season. It has everything from Summer Youth Camps (busiest and most successful ever), racquets and golf Club Championships, tribute band concerts, to pool parties, twilight golf, trivia nights, wine dinners, the annual Men’s Member-Guest and the largest of them all, the 4th of July Celebration and Cookout.
Every July, Independence Day grows increasingly more memorable, and this year, for the first time, the Club will be having its own fireworks to delight the crowd of 1,300 people we are expecting. Because of the
Now, let me bore you with this story: this year the 228th birthday of our great nation also has a deep significance for me and my American story. Twenty years ago, on July 4th, I landed in the nation’s capital and started a journey that I never could have imagined. I was still a student, and I would come to work and travel for the next few summers only to decide after graduation to look for a career in the country that has all the best to offer to those who choose to call it home. It just so happened that in that same year, Rehoboth Beach Country Club opened its doors to me. I became a proud citizen of this country, which was a very long journey and only possible with the help of some of the Members and part of this Club, which are both synonymous in my life story. Out of the five core values of any country (independence, solidarity, self-determinism, patriotism and allegiance), a special significance to me is the allegiance and the oath I took, and how everything changed with it.
It's an election year and I will stay 1,000 miles away from any comments related to it, but it’s the allegiance to RBCC that I want to talk a little about and the reason has to do with supporting the Club and the initiatives the leadership is undertaking lately. You see, just like I became a citizen by choice, membership at this beautiful club was a choice that you all made. Employment at RBCC was a choice for all staff alike, and allegiance is the closest to the feeling of belonging we all share. We all owe it to the Club to make sure these initiatives benefit current Members and generations to come who will enjoy it, just like
generations before us did, so we can call this home now, almost a century later. This duty of fidelity is both owed and freely committed, and we want to make sure that the membership understands the reasons behind these initiatives and then support us along the way.
Just like Mrs. Covington mentions in the opening article, our efforts this year are in communicating with the Members and having an open dialogue with you every time we’re “up to something” because it’s all part of “something good.” So, from the Q&A meetings about the very important Capital Dues to Coffee with C (coming up on July 6), and to any interaction on the Club property, we’re committed to answering your questions, receiving your feedback and working together to make this Club more and more enjoyable for everyone.
In peak season, we also have a peak number of Talon Tribe members. I know that the 230 staff head count number scares some Members, but I welcome and would love to talk to you about it. We are all here, ready to provide you with the membership experience you’re expecting at every visit. You put a smile on our faces every time you choose us over any of the multiple choices you have, so we hope to see you soon and see you often.
The Talon Tribe held its quarterly All-Employee Luncheon in June. We celebrated one-year service anniversaries, played “RBCC Trivia” (congratulations to the Chickadees for taking the win!) and celebrated our Talon Tribe Member of the Quarter: Mr. Ron Mitchell.
Mr. Ron was nominated for his ongoing display of the Talon Tribe Core Values, including Respect, Integrity and Tribework. He works tirelessly behind the scenes and takes pride in the fact that Rehoboth Beach Country Club is in the top 150 Platinum Clubs of America. His most recent question was “What can I help with to get us to the to 100?” Well-deserved Mr. Ron!
The Talon Tribe had their first Dewey Beach Bonfire of the season. We enjoyed food, drinks, soccer (aka fútbol) and volleyball before the sun went down and then gathered around the bonfire for late night conversation. With each extracurricular event, the Talon Tribe grows stronger, friendships deepen and our ability to work together thrives. This is all with the goal of delivering the must-have membership experience to our wonderful RBCC Members.
any important Club information and news including the weekly email Eagle Tracks, the monthly Eagle Point newsletter and the Board Brief.
It is that time of year where the Club is busy with Members and their guests, seasonal employees are back or just being welcomed into the Talon Tribe and the sun is shining. As Mrs. Covington mentioned in her article, there is so much going on here at the Club for Members to partake in, so I wanted to take this opportunity to remind the membership of a few ways to stay in touch with the Club and other Members.
Friends Table at Trivia Every Wednesday through September, the Club hosts Trivia in the Ballroom. The dinner buffet is $35 per person and opens at 6pm with trivia starting at 7pm. When making your reservation on ForeTees, indicate your Trivia groups name in the notes section. If you do not have a group to play with, that’s okay! Indicate “NEW FRIENDS” and the Club will pair you with a group.

As mentioned in previous newsletters and Board Briefs, the Board appointed the Directors for the 1925 Eagle Foundation. The Foundation’s Directors have hosted a few meetings to get started on the planning and implementation of the Foundation. Now they would like to spread the word regarding the Foundation and listen to any ideas Members may have regarding planning, implementation, and execution.
So, the Club invites you to a 1925 Eagle Foundation Cocktail Reception on Friday, August 16 from 5pm-7pm. Join us for this celebratory event and learn how together we can lift up and support the Talon Tribe by providing educational and financial grants while also extending our reach to local charities.
We look forward to seeing each of you!

The “White Dinner” held on Saturday, July 27 is the marquee wine event of the year hosted by “C.” However, this event has been sold out for some time, but we still have room for our similar “Farm Table” dinner on August 17.
The Men’s Member Guest will take place from July 17 to the 20. The team loves to show what we can do and how we can impress your guests. The Gala Dinner on Saturday is always a great night.
There is no other month of the year that starts off as busy as July and here we are. Everyone comes to the beach on July 4th weekend, and it seems like all the Members make it to the Club to celebrate one way or another. Last year we served over 1,100 Members and guests on the 4th. It is likely that the total number will be surpassed this year in 2024 With this year being my third at RBCC, July 4th Cookout is my clear favorite event on the Club’s calendar and this year we will have our own fireworks display, more bounce houses, a playground, Rita’s Italian Ice and Mr. Softee Ice Cream.
In July, Tuesday Member Night dinners swell to more than 200 diners. Trivia, with its themed dinner buffets on Wednesdays, will grow to more than 125 Members and guests. The Food and Beverage team is looking for Sunday Night Cookouts to gain in popularity even more this summer, especially with the Club’s new pig roaster! Happy Hour will run through the summer and will be a big draw inside the Eagles Nest as well as outside on the patio.
I speak for all the Food and Beverage team when I say that we are looking forward to a great season providing the best possible services this summer.

In the month of July, we will also be hosting our 70th Annual Men’s Member Guest. This is the premier event for our men’s golfing community here at the Club. We have a fantastic event planned for our completely full field. We finish the month of July with the Mixed Member Club Championship on July 29 This event has grown each year, and we are excited to crown this year’s champion.
Registration for all events can be found online on the Club website or by contacting a member of the professional staff.
Additionally, whether you are a Member or if you are bringing out guests, be aware of the dress policy while on the course. Please have your shirt tucked in upon arrival at the course and your hat on forward. If you have guests, we ask that you make sure they are adhering to the policies that the club sets forth. Lastly, I know we continue to stress this, but we do ask that you continue to be mindful of your pace of play on the golf course.
Welcome to July. We had a fantastic start to the season through the months of May and June with events selling out, clinics in full swing and all-around club and course usage at expected levels. As we turn to the month of July many more exciting things await.
To kick off the beginning of the month, the peak season holiday, the 4th of July celebration jumpstarts the busiest times at the Club. We will be hosting our annual Flag Day Tournament on Thursday, July 4. There is no pre-registration for this event, and you can choose to register on the first tee that day. The tournament will run from 7am to 2pm.
I also want to highlight two fun ladies’ events during the month of July. The annual Black and Pink charity event and the Ladies Solheim Cup Both events are hosted by the ladies’ groups here at RBCC. Over the last couple of years, the ladies’ groups have donated considerable amounts of nonperishable food and monetary donations to the Food Bank of Delaware. Not only is it a fun golf event between the black and pink teams, but it also supports a fantastic cause. The ladies Solheim Cup mirrors the LPGA Solheim Cup with two teams competing in an event using 3 different formats over 18 holes of play. Both are fun exciting events for our ladies’ groups at RBCC.
As we move into the busy months, we want to remind everyone of some things you may forget or not be aware of as it pertains to the golf operations.
Be sure that if you make a starting time, especially on a weekend, that you do show up for your time. Our cancellation policy is in effect, and you must cancel your time by 8pm the night before to avoid the cancellation policy coming into effect. We do this so that we can maximize the tee sheet during the busy weekends.
These summer months continue to be a time for making memories with family and friends and we hope that we can help create memorable experiences for all our members and their families and friends throughout the season! We look forward to seeing many of you on the course or in the golf shop enjoying all that RBCC has to offer.
Spring aeration is complete, and the golf season is in full swing. The course being closed following Memorial Day, coupled with the perfect weather, meant that we were able to get the green’s aeration completed on Tuesday and Wednesday, which just left us with some cleanup on Thursday morning. So, we were able to fully open the course on that Thursday afternoon. Due to the potential of rain, we concentrated on the wetter fairways which threw us out of sequence and made the process longer to complete than expected. However, we still had aeration wrapped up on the Friday after Memorial Day. The greens were 90% healed within two weeks of topdressing. Being that this is the first year with this aeration schedule, we are working through how to make it better and have already identified a few areas where we think we can improve and accelerate the healing time. The rootzones of the greens and the different varieties of bentgrass on them differ so much that they are healing at different rates. Over the next few years as we improve those areas, it will be much easier to get them to perform consistently and how we want them to play overall. I use data to quantify what we do so we can maximize the results. I mentioned in a previous article how I used climate data to work out the best time to aerate, but I also use physical soil testing to work out how much aeration is needed. The test results from this spring show that we made progress with the one last fall, but it also highlights the need for aeration going forward. Next month, I’ll discuss how we use data to make decisions and to refine how we get the results we want.
The overall biggest concern of the golf course is limiting the spread of older, more aggressive bermudagrass that does not play well. This is why we solid tined the fairways and did not verticut them. If we did then it would have broken up the cores causing the fluff left over to act as sprigs, propagating new plants making it stronger. The bermudagrass that we
are currently sodding with offers excellent playing surfaces and does not need such aggressive management.
The bulkhead along #6 failed and needed replaced. While the golf course design in general has moved towards more natural aesthetics, coupled with the high cost of a replacement bulkhead, it was decided to remove it completely and instead created a sod bank that ran into the water. While we were closed for aeration, we were able to get the old one removed, the bank regraded and the entire area sodded. All the feedback has been extremely positive, which is wonderful to hear.
I discussed tree removal in the March issue of Eagle Point and mentioned one of the reasons for removal is safety. While we had taken care of the dangerous trees on the course itself, as we concentrated on finishing other projects, we ran out of time in the spring to take care of the ones in the woods. We took advantage of the course closure to have our arborist come out and take down the dead, overhanging and dangerous branches that remained. It was a bit of a surprise at how many were on the ground once he was done, but that only reinforced how much liability there was and how much safer we made the property. They are now cleaned up and we will work on the stumps as time allows.
We took on the planting of flowers in-house this year. Around the Club’s campus, we went with more perennials and complemented them with annuals. It looked a little bare at first but as they mature, they are filling in nicely. Around the course we wanted to go with a more natural aesthetic than formal plantings of annuals. We wanted to acknowledge the fact we are a private country club at the beach and bring some of that look onto the course. We have been harvesting native plants from around the course and purchasing others to fill out the sandy beds.
Alan FitzGerald CGCS MG Superintendent
We have been working our way into it and have had mixed reviews, but I appreciate the feedback. It is difficult to build a “natural” area so it will be a work in progress for a while as we find the sweet spot to maximize the color while also maintaining a more natural aesthetic. We have already started to plant them with more plants. While it will take a little time, I promise that we will get it right as the plants mature and we tweak the look.
I look forward to seeing you around the course!
As always if you have any questions, please email me superintendent@rehobothbeachcc.com

All RBCC camps are designed to offer a variety of activities from tennis, golf, sailing, science classes, arts and crafts, to learning about drones and technology, music and performing, how to skim board and how to become a RBCC ninja warrior. The programs are designed to create interest and passions that children might not have discovered otherwise.
Camps are continuing in July. June was extremely successful and all the children and grandchildren that came had an amazing time Games, swimming, water slides, golf, and tennis. Erika, Terri, Pat and their teams have done an exceptional job of making the camps memorable for everyone. So why are camps important? There are a few reasons why you should sign your children for camps:
All the RBCC camps this season bring children of different ages, personalities and cultures together, which provides an excellent environment for children to develop their social skills. Interacting with peers in a structured setting encourages children to learn how to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and build lasting friendships.
One of the key benefits of Youth Summer Camps is the boost in independence and selfconfidence. Away from the familiar environment of home and school, children are encouraged to take on new challenges and make decisions on their own. Whether it’s navigating a ropes course, learning a new sport, or participating in group activities, each accomplishment helps build their self-esteem and fosters a sense of autonomy.
In an age where screen time, phones and computer time often dominate a child’s day, the physical activities provided at camps are more important than ever. Regular physical exercise is vital for maintaining a healthy body and mind. Through sports and outdoor activities, children can improve their motor skills, coordination, and overall physical fitness.
In conclusion, RBCC camps are more than just fun. They offer invaluable opportunities for social interaction, independence, physical strength, and growth. As parents investing in the camps is investing in the future of your kids. Erika, Terri, Pat and the Tribe work hard every day to create memorable experiences. Thank you for trusting us with your children and grandchildren.

From the Little Dolphins program to the competitive team, we offer something for everyone. Whether you're just dipping your toes into the world of swimming or you're a seasoned competitor, there's a place for you on the Swim Team. The dedicated coaches are here to help you learn proper strokes, improve your skills, and most importantly, have a blast in the water.
Dynamic Practice Schedule: Join us for our team practice sessions every weekday from 9am-10am, where we'll focus on honing our technique and building endurance. And don't forget about the special Friday fun practices, complete with donuts to fuel our excitement for the weekend ahead and silly water games to make everyone laugh. Our Little Dolphins will learn strokes form 9am-9:45am on Mondays/Thursday and they are always invited to Fun Friday!
Embracing the Dolphin Spirit: At RBCC, it's not just about swimming fast—it's about being a good teammate, fostering friendships, and embracing the Dolphin spirit. We encourage each and every one of the swimmers to support one another, strive for personal bests, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of being part of the incredible team.
Join Us Today! Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just starting out, there's never been a better time to dive into the world of joining the RBCC Dolphins Swim Team. Join us for a summer filled with friendship, fun, and plenty of unforgettable memories. This year, Members can host a friend on the team. Do you have grandkids coming to visit? Have them swim with us while they are in town. They will meet new friends and have fun! Ready to make a splash?
