This is not a musical. Milton Jones is tone-deaf and has no sense of rhythm, but at least he doesn’t make a song and dance about it. He has more important things to discuss. Over at The Ivy Asia, the Dragon Lunch Menu is a must. If you haven’t tried this yet, run — don’t walk. Think luxe lunching at a bargain price. My faves on the menu have to be the teriyaki chicken yakatori, salt and pepper beef and the tiger prawn rendang. Trust me, it’s good.

Wonderful WOODSIDE
Harewood Holidays is a collection of self-catering holiday cottages nestled within the estate - and there are two new additions.
In recent years, Harewood has changed from being a traditionally run estate to one much more outwards facing as a leisure and lifestyle destination.
Part of this diverse offering includes Harewood Holidays, a collection of 13 self-catering holiday cottages nestled within the estate. They’re the perfect way to immerse yourself in this wonderful part of Yorkshire and explore the estate, which spans some 4,000 acres, much of which

can be seen from the House, and includes around 100 listed features, including two scheduled monuments, as well as areas of ancient woodland, wood pasture parkland and arable.
Imagine waking up and having this on your doorstep?
This year has seen the addition of two further properties – Woodside Cottage and Woodside Lodge – which are both dogfriendly and have three bedrooms that sleep six people. As their names suggest, they are

both located on the edge of the woodland, making for an idyllic, tranquil setting.
The drive to Woodside Cottage winds itself through this woodland for about a mile, taking in breathtaking views of Harewood House and lake and passing an old stone bridge, ponds, waterfalls and often plenty of wildlife to be seen en route.
The newly-renovated original Gamekeepers cottage has ample parking for three cars and an EV point.

with an integrated appliances, a fourburner induction hob, built-in oven and microwave. A Nespresso Vertuo machine and milk frother add a touch of luxury.
Upstairs there are three double bedroom each with an en-suite, one boasting a freestanding bath.
The rear of the property has a raised dining for ten people.
Woodside Lodge offers much the same but is all on one level and is characterised by a large modern extension, which is has full-height windows to two sides with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. This extension is also clad in Cedar and has a live Sedum roof.
“All cottages have their own unique history, from worker cottages to ancient hunting lodges. These Grade II Listed buildings ooze character, offering great views and access to our amazing landscapes designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown,” said Felicity Marsden, who manages the cottages.
“Not only will your break be bathed in heritage, but you can holiday with a clear conscience as Harewood properties
Our cottages are heated by renewable energy and electric car charging points are accessible for all guests.”
The 11 remaining properties sleep between two and eight people and all

that bit more special. Guests can also take advantage of complimentary access to Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of England. Built in 1759 for Edwin Lascelles, the house was designed and furnished with the best in mind.
Food and drink is taken very seriously at Harewood Holidays and guests can pop into the Estate Farm shop, where you’ll
as lots of lovely local produce as well as locally made arts and crafts.
The Harewood Food & Drink Project collaborate with a host of Yorkshire artisan producers to bring you a range of seasonal products and experiences, all based around the heritage produce grown on the Estate.
You can also head over to the Muddy Boots café which offers great coffee and cakes, a good hearty breakfast, hot and cold sandwiches, and delicious lunches.
With over 4,000 acres, the Harewood Estate lends itself to getting outdoors and enjoying yourself. From walking and cycling to relaxing whilst soaking up the views, there’s something for all.

There are 15 miles of public bridle paths to enjoy either on foot or by bike. Right from your doorstep you can explore three famous walking routes (Leeds Country Way, Ebor Way and Dales Way), which cross-cross the Estate.
If you’re more of a cyclist than a walker, then you may already know that Harewood featured on the routes of the 2014 Tour de France as the location for the Grande Depart. Each of the cottages has its own secure bike storage, so if you are planning to bring your own bike, you can be assured it will be stored safely during your stay. Alternatively, you can hire a bike for the duration of your stay through Vern Overton Cycling.

Breaking from TRADITION

The Harewood Food & Drink Project is spearheading the estate’s transformation into
ike many traditional English country estates, Harewood has had to diversify and adapt to a changing climate – and is thriving as a result.
The 4,500-acre estate, on the outskirts of Leeds and in easy reach of Harrogate, has evolved into a forward-thinking lifestyle destination that offers much more than house and garden visits – although both are well worth a look if you’re visiting the area.
Harewood dates back to the mid-18th century when it was built for Edwin Lascelles, the First Baron of Harewood. To this day, the estate remains in the Lascelles family and is home to the current Earl, David Lascelles, who brought his sons – Eddy and Ben – on board to drive
At the heart of this expansion is the Harewood Food & Drink Project (HF&DP), which was set up in 2016 to showcase the amazing produce grown on the estate. Harewood’s history of food production goes back hundreds of years with fruits, vegetables and wild foraged foods abundant across every corner, as well as also being home to Hebridean black sheep, Highland Cattle and Aberdeen Angus, and red and fallow deer.
The spectacular Grade I listed walled garden at Harewood was built in the 1750s whilst Harewood House was still under construction, so that there was a fully operational kitchen garden ready for when the grand house was completed. In the
early 19th century double-insulated walls - similar to a central heating system - were installed which created a warm, tropical climate to grow the most exotic of fruits. Items like mangoes, passion fruits, sugar cane and even pineapples were all grown here, in Yorkshire, in the 1800s.
Present day Harewood, still uses traditional growing methods, everything is hand-picked and hand-tended to with no pesticides used, just as nature intended.
In addition to homegrown or homereared produce, Harewood also produce their own honey, gin (with Whittaker’s Gin) and beer (with Northern Monk).

Harewood, which we do every summer and like a magical mystery tour, a literal and metaphorical journey through the estate where we move people between different locations and they have courses and drinks in each place.
“Whether people love it or hate it, as long as it’s unique and they say it’s unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before,

the Muddy Boots café, which is very much a place for all and is extremely popular with walkers, hence the name. The estate took over the village café in July 2018, which then underwent a comprehensive refurbishment in March 2019. It’s very much about good quality, good value and simple, locally-sourced home-cooked food, all day every day.
“It’s become a bit of a local institution and we’re now seeing a much wider pool of we’ve tried to create is an environment that’s warm and welcoming. We do things

The Hovels at Harewood was launched as a wedding venue in 2022 and is a Grade II listed stable block surrounded by unspoilt Yorkshire countryside. It serves as the main wedding and events venue and has capacity for 80 seated diners or 120 standing guests. As well as being the location for many of
used as a private hire venue for everything from birthday parties and Bar Mitzvahs to corporate events and conferences.
In-keeping with the estate’s ethos, menus are designed to give you maximum produce, wherever possible sourced from Harewood.
“We’re not a ‘conveyor belt’ wedding venue, if people are looking for the smaller,

more intimate, bespoke, food-led wedding,
One recent further change has been the addition of a small farm shop, which is also started making their own frozen ready meals, available at the farm shop or the Muddy Boots café.
Although growing up in a little village in Somerset, Eddy made regular visits to the family estate and has always had a fondness for Yorkshire and the outdoors. After working in London, Eddy moved here with his wife Sophie around ten years ago, bringing a passion for food and a desire to make Harewood into a high-end lifestyle destination.
“It’s like the world’s biggest playground, we were very lucky, it’s paradise when at Harewood. “It’s only when you grow up and you’re working in it day in, day out that you realise what a hard slog it is to keep it looking and functioning like this.
“It’s a duty and a responsibility to ensure that my kids and grandkids have the same opportunity that we did growing up. To do that and to create a model which is done with the right kind of ethics behind it is really important to us as a family.
“We work in hospitality, not an easy industry to work in. It certainly doesn’t get easier, it gets harder for so many reasons, but it’s something that we’re all just really passionate about and feel very lucky to be able to do what we do. The fact is that at Harewood, there’s an expectation of standards that we’re responsible for upholding, but equally you can have a bit
And whilst Eddy may be very much a foodie obsessive, his brother Ben is very much conservation-focused.
“We talk a lot about conservation and sustainability here and almost every minimising the impact on the landscape, of how we can leave the land in a better place
Current ongoing work includes a landscape scale restoration project designed to sustainably manage and restore ecosystems including arable and livestock farmland, woodlands and waterways, that will make a lasting contribution to national efforts to tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis.
Much progress has been made to decarbonise and make Harewood more sustainable. As well as switching most machinery and equipment to electric, renewable energy schemes include solar and biomass plants.
Plants provide heat to all the estate’s properties and holiday cottages and even heat Harewood House and the Courtyard, saving more than 500 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The brothers appear to be doing everything the right way and reaping the rewards. The appeal of Harewood now stretches much further than it ever has done before, and visitor numbers are only expected to grow, whether you’re a house visitor, diner or wedding guest. The legacy of the estate is in safe hands.

Natural BEAUTY
Clumber Park is one of only 146 Grade I listed parks in Britain and is one of the most-visited. We spoke to general manager Rob Holder about how it continues to evolve and plans for improving infrastructure.
With 3,800 acres to explore, Clumber Park offers something for the whole family this spring. You can roam the Pleasure Grounds, visit the Chapel of St Mary the Virgin, walk Lime Tree Avenue or drop into the tiny village of Hardwick – and there’s much more.
Over 720,000 visitors come to this corner of North Nottinghamshire each year, which has been under the National Trust umbrella since 1946. But its history goes far beyond that.
The story of Clumber Park began in 1709 when John Holles, the 3rd Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was granted a licence to enclose 3,000 acres of Sherwood Forest and turn it into a deer park for Queen Anne.
It was the 2nd Duke - Henry Fiennes Pelham-Clinton – who really left his mark on the parkland, building a stunning mansion at its heart in the early 1760s. Designed by Stephen Wright, it was regarded as one of
It was a classical building of white freestone (brought from the Duke’s own quarry), with the central portion, which faced the lake, containing a light Ionic colonnade.
The gardens and parkland of the estate were also particularly impressive, both in scale and the care and money that had been lavished upon them.
The double avenue of lime trees, created for the 5th Duke, was planted with 1,296 trees and stood at three miles long. Today, it is still the longest in Europe.
Hardwick village was created in the 1850s, a model village for the 5th Duke’s
general store, village hall and two schools; one for village children and the other, for the students of the Clumber Chapel choir, housed in the Choir Hostel also situated in the village. The village school everything the dukes needed for their estate could be found within the boundaries of Clumber Park, and the village played no
During the Second World War, the park was used by the army for ammunition storage and military training. The Lincoln Stables were used as a decontamination centre, the cricket pavilion as a medical hut and the Duke’s garage was used for entertainment and meetings. After the war, clearing the park of ammunition took many years and it was 1955 before the military eventually left.
After purchasing Clumber Park just after the war, the National Trust opened it to the public in the late 1950s with its natural beauty proving hugely popular with visitors. Indeed, it is one of the Trust’s most

visited places and is one of only 146 Grade I listed parks in Britian.

responsibilities, be that restoring historic landscapes, protecting rare species or preserving vital habitats.
“Visitors play an important role in following our guidelines and respecting the natural surroundings, you are helping to ensure that Clumber Park continues to be a vibrant and protected environment for future generations.”
Clumber Park is part of the Countryside Stewardship scheme, a government-backed initiative funding and supporting the restoration of wildlife habitats to protect range of habitats including wood pasture, heathland, broadleaf woodland, coniferous woodland, wetland, lake and acid grassland. management supports biodiversity, restores habitats, and preserves the natural beauty of the park.
“I don’t think we’ve done enough for our visitors to talk about conservation,” he said. “We have a conservation management plan, which is basically an umbrella strategy of how we look after nature but we need to do a better job at engaging our visitors.”

“We’re going to need to evolve and for me, I’m really interested in the Gen z and Gen Alphas, which are the next two generations who are going to come in after me,” he explained. “They’re really savvy, they’re climate-focused and they love nature. If I can spark something in someone, to me, that’s purpose. That’s why I’m doing what I’m doing.”
Of course, for even younger children there’s even more to discover at Clumber with the Discovery Centre, where you can learn more about the park and its wildlife,
as well as the Bird Hide and Woodland Play Park. There’s also a dedicated sensory space, which provides a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle.
Clumber Park has a dedicated calendar of events too, which will run throughout the summer and right up to Christmas. There’s everything from park runs and dog walks to photography workshops and walled kitchen garden tours.
Behind the scenes, work continues to improve the infrastructure in the park with
“We are victims of our own success really, having grown visitor numbers from just under 600,000 to 720,000,” explained
as a charity, there’s no direct government funding or support so I need to raise money from our visitor business to improve our visitor infrastructure.
“It’s fair that we’re coming under some criticism. In an ideal world, the baseline infrastructure would be sorted and you would layer on top, but unfortunately in a heritage site with limited funding, it doesn’t work like that.”
Despite the challenges, work is underway to create a new 1,000-plus space hardstanding car park as well as three peripheral ones, which will allow visitors to explore the wider estate and park away from the main visitor facilities if preferred.
With so many different elements to manage, including over 500 active volunteers alongside the permanent staff,
wouldn’t have it any other way.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than standing in the middle of Clumber Park on a really busy Bank Holiday Monday and seeing the smiles and laughter, it’s pretty special,” he said.
Festival of Blossom
The Festival of Blossom is a shared national celebration of nature which takes place each spring.
From 10-11 May, celebrate blossom season in Clumber Park’s walled kitchen garden, with a vibrant festival of art.
Wander beneath the blossom trees and explore the Makers Quarter, where skilled artisans will showcase and sell their handcrafted goods.
Meet local artists in the Arts Quarter, enjoy live storytelling and poetry.
Wellness Quarter, where you can experience yoga, the calming sounds of singing bowls, and dedicated spaces for rest and relaxation.
Discover the wonders of beekeeping with honey tasting and demonstrations, listen to live music in the Glasshouse, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of spring in bloom.
Blossom Festival is a celebration of renewal, thanks and hope.

Hitting the HEIGHTS
Uyare is the new place to be seen in Leeds –Ross Heppenstall got a sneak preview.

There is a stunning new rooftop bar and restaurant on the scene in Leeds which has opened up in one of the swankiest spots in town.
Uyare, which has just taken up residence in Victoria Gate, has been brought to the former Issho site by the same team behind the hugely popular Tharavadu.
Tharavadu, which opened in June 2014 and has since won a string of awards, is much-loved in Leeds after becoming the

That, it most certainly does.
With a rooftop terrace providing skyline views over the city, Uyare already feels like one of the most desirable venues in Leeds.
Uyare occupies a spacious 7,000 sq ft area, which includes a stunning bar, a 200-cover restaurant and a 15-person private dining room. Its distinct areas include Bhoomi – The Earth restaurant – and Agni – The Fire bar – making it a dynamic addition to Leeds’ culinary scene.

The design is sleek and polished: marble bar is delightful.

It says much for Uyare’s fast-growing reputation – the ambience and service is amazing.

Spoilt for CHOICE
t’s been a couple of years since we’d sampled the delights on offer The Courtyard at Manor Farm in Oldcotes near Worksop, so we thought it was high time we returned to see if much had changed from our last visit.
Created in the deepest, darkest days of the original lockdown, after opening its doors in July 2020, The Courtyard at Manor Farm has proven to be a blazing light that has seen the venue not only survive but thrive.
A beacon of hope, Manor Farm has attracted an array of complementary ventures that have shared the same aspirational goals, with a clear focus on delivering high standards. These include the likes of Little Princess Parties, offering outdoor events; an artisan market; Bowers Boutique, Mollywood Boutique and Beauty, HQ Cycles and Harper-Stalton Van Conversions. Together, the businesses have collectively generated a positive outlook that has seen the site become a hive of activity and a hub for the local community. The site has also become a prime spot for weddings and is also able to provide accommodation.
In terms of the café itself, having started off with modest aspirations in a disused barn serving ice creams and hot drinks, a laser-like focus on quality, service and innovation has seen a hidden gem become a prime destination for discerning visitors of all ages. It’s little wonder then that it is
“When we opened in July 2020 it was a very uncertain time, but we have been able to continually add new elements over the years,” explains Abi Priestley. “It’s been fantastic to see how far we’ve come, and we’re keen to keep adding to our offering where we can. It’s also been lovely to build really strong relationships with our suppliers and expand our range as we’ve done so.”
Underlining the community-centric approach at the heart of Manor Farm, the business has helped raise money for a

plethora of good causes, such as Bassetlaw Foodbank, Bluebell Wood, Weston Park
A stunning location belies the fact that Manor Farm is only a short drive from the A1 near Blyth Services and, despite its growing visitor numbers, there’s ample parking.
Built for Edward Challinor, who owned Hermaston Hall across the road in Oldcotes, the site was originally used as a guest house before evolving into a farm focused on the likes of cows, pigs and pheasants. It was then bought by the Priestleys in 2012 and remains their family home, with ongoing restoration injecting a new lease of life into what is a grade two listed building.
Offering a gorgeous outside seating area ideal for warm, sunny days (which we were lucky enough to experience on our visit); the inside of Barn Café is equally impressive, with rustic charm in abundance. High ceilings and fairy lights lend themselves to a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, as diners enjoyed their afternoon teas, light lunches, coffees and attentively between tables to keep the patrons well catered for.
What’s immediately striking about Barn Farm’s menu is the sheer amount of choice available for what could be mistaken for a small operation. For early birds, an extensive Breakfast & Brunch selection is served until 11.30am, offering everything from the hearty ‘Big Barn Full English Breakfast’, through to more demure bites to get the day off to the best possible start.
For lunch, meanwhile, again a range of tempting lighter options are available, such as various paninis, sausage rolls, pasties, jacket potatoes and sandwiches.
Having arrived feeling particularly peckish, our party of four opted to sample the main options, of which there were many, before deciding on the following:
• Fish Cakes: Served with a generous side of fresh salad, the two substantial chilli sauce that struck the right balance of sweet and heat. What took this dish to the next level, however, was the deliciously cheesy centre. Top tier stuff.
of béchamel sauce and high-quality cheesiness, again with a crisply fresh salad, this was a delightfully substantial choice.
salmon, along with the now ubiquitous epitome of a fresh salad, adorned with three crisp spears of asparagus. A dish perfect for the weather and the sunny vibes.
• Mac and Cheese: A deceptively simple

dish that is all too easy to get wrong (overcooked pasta anyone?), this was a faultless take on a classic.
Although we all agreed our main portions were as generous as they were well-made, a quick perusal of the cake board led to the unanimous decision that something sweet might actually round proceedings off nicely, thank you very much.
Once more the sheer choice available led to much deliberation but eventually we came to our decisions:
• Coffee & Walnut – moist with a more than pleasant kick of coffee without there being any danger of it becoming too overbearing.
• Carrot & Pistachio – a delicious
• Millionaire’s Shortbread – the perfect combination of chocolate and caramel atop a scrumptiously buttery shortbread.

• Raspberry & White Chocolate – the fruity tartness offset the sweetness of the white chocolate.
Throughout our visit the staff were attentive and helpful, more than happy to explain the menu options and offer suggestions.
With a comprehensive selection of drinks, both hot and cold, the Barn Café has all you need for a wonderful day out in a beautiful setting. With further expansion plans on the cards for Manor Farm, we’re already excited about what may be on offer for our next visit.

station for the volunteers putting in long hours trying to avoid a total disaster. A constant supply of bacon butties and hot tea kept the workers fed and watered but seeing as she was offering the service free of charge it did nothing for the company balance sheet.
When we met back in late February 2020 the café was open to paying customers once more and Louise was hoping for a good summer and an upturn in trade to help her get up and running again. If she had known what was coming (Covid and a national lockdown were just a few weeks away) the conversation might not have been so upbeat. Talk about a double whammy…
Fortunately, it would seem the good folk of Fishlake are made of stern stuff. On a beautiful spring day in 2025, the sun shines down on a pretty, pristine village and that local café remains very much at the beating heart of this community of stubborn survivors.
Some things have changed, however. Louise still runs the café with sister-in-law Claire but a move to a new location, just 50 yards or so away, has brought a fresh start and a new lease of life for The Old Butchers Café and Bistro.
In fact, the cafe is physically attached to the local pub, which is handy as Louise is now also the landlady of The Hare and Hounds.
There’s a shared kitchen but for those who remember the previous version of the café, when it literally was on the site of an old butcher’s shop, it retains its own special identity and is as charming and welcoming as it ever was, with a classic menu of hearty breakfasts and lunch dishes along with soups, sandwiches and a

selection of sweet treats.
As well as the café there is an outdoor seating area and also a pod, aka The Swinehouse, which was introduced as a temporary measure to increase seating but has proved so popular, particularly with cycling groups, it has become a permanent attraction.
One of the lunchtime dishes, the homemade chicken pie (£11.95), required a 20-minute wait. I’d take that over 90 seconds followed by the ping of the microwave any day, and it brought the
with the sun streaming through the doors and take in the scenery. The café/pub amalgam sits in the shadow of the local church, making for a very picturesque setting.
(£3.30) and a catch-up with an old friend, the pie duly arrived in all its glory, a ‘proper’ individual pie made with crisp, buttery pastry and generously packed with chunks of chicken. Peas (a choice of garden or mushy), proper hand-cut chips and a jug of gravy completed the picture.
The Butcher’s Burger (£11.95) was equally hearty and satisfying, with all

it’s done like this in a toasted brioche bun. And there were more of those just-so chips as an accompaniment.
Whether you are planning a long, lingering lunch or a cuppa and a quick bite, The Old Butchers Café and Bistro
a couple of slices of the delicious homemade cakes from the front the counter. We sampled the lemon cake (£3.95) and Victoria sponge (£3.95), and both were as
just perfect with a cup of Yorkshire tea (£2.95).
Louise and Claire have plans for more improvements to the café which include turning the large outdoor area into a fully landscaped garden. I have no doubt the
Butchers looks, feels and tastes pretty survival story to warm the heart and satisfy the stomach.

Improved health andHAPPINESS
Student mental health is top of the agenda at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate.
t is well documented that a good wellbeing offering in schools improves student motivation, attainment and productivity, creates more well-rounded individuals, and reduces the need for disciplinary intervention.
Unlike preparing students for a shorterterm goal like their next assessment, providing students with education and facilities linked to wellbeing and mental health helps foster individuals who work prospects, happiness, and better relationships with others.
At QE, good mental health and wellbeing for our whole community is the norm, at every level. Staff have a thorough understanding of the holistic support needed which means our students get the very best support. One of our goals was for
our students to take as much ownership of their own mental health, as well as that of their peers, as opposed to it being a subject ticked off by student welfare, and by the staff who support them in school.
By introducing a team of Student Welfare Ambassadors, who support various departments through promoting mental wellbeing on a Collegiate wide basis, particularly amongst peers, we were able to to discuss mental health.
Our ambassadors work to raise awareness of good mental, physical and far, they have worked with staff to help devise and implement a Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy across the Collegiate, as well as planning a YouTube channel and other ideas to support student welfare.

This has created a very positive link between staff and students, as well as students feeling that mental health can be talked about openly in our community.
wellbeing and offer a student-driven set of sessions that focus on the promotion and development of positive mental health. Students can be referred to sessions or can drop in as and when they are needed. Sessions are designed to develop relationships built on trust, enabling collaboration, cooperation and a positive learning environment that ultimately empowers all at QE to thrive.
