NEXT is a global consumer robot company based in Providence, RI. Their purpose is simple: improve everyday living through robotics. NEXT designs intuitive, sleek, and eco-friendly smart home devices. Looking to invest in a new Research & Development Hub, the company chose the heart of Boston, MA, the Seaport District, for its location. Based on innovation, well-being, art, and technology, Boston has experienced much adversity, growing into the city we know today. The Boston Light, located 22 miles from Seaport, was the first lighthouse to be constructed in the U.S. It always remains on, guiding seafarers to shore. Like Boston, NEXT is an office based on innovation and growth. Through bold colors and materials, integrated technology, and a variety of spaces accommodating varying needs, this space encourages employees to inspire, innovate, be themselves, and navigate change. NEXT turns challenges into opportunities, inspiring, guiding, and bringing hope to future generations.

02. VISITOR’S CENTER
Project Duration: 2 weeks
Assigned to develop a quick, conceptual design for a visitor’s center in New Orleans, LA that represents the city’s resilience throughout the years. New Orleans is a city full of life and spirit. The goal of this space is to represent the city’s spirit through various design elements, and give a preview to what visitors will see when they step out onto the streets of New Orleans. The concept of spirit is seen through warm, natural, energizing, and guiding elements. Dim, flickering lighting contributes to the warmth of the space, and creates an environment similar to walking through the streets of the French Quarter in the evening. Displays are lifted off the ground to give a floating appearance, like the houses that are in the French Quarter. There’s also iron detailing and hanging plants above the displays, mimicing the balconies in the French Quarter. These energizing elements add to the concept of spirit, creating the experience of vitality throughout the space.

03. THE BRIDGE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT
Sq. Footage: approx. 12,000 NET SF
Project Duration: 4 weeks
Group members, consisting of Ben Hall, Madelyn Hill, Jadyn Wolf, and Regan Wright, were assigned to design a boutique hotel and restaurant located in downtown Manhattan, KS. In a city characterized by institutions that draw people in from the across the world, there are many different cultures present. The goal was to foster connections between people of similar cultures, as well as vastly different ones. This space connects people to each other, the nature around them, and a variety of different cultures. This boutique hotel is the Bridge between these cultures, uniting everyone that visits. Human interaction is encouraged through collaborative seating and lounge areas. Connection to nature is fostered through the live tree within the lobby space and materials of biophilic nature. Visitors are provided a sneak peek of different cultures through authentic cuisine.

04. OASIS PEDIATRIC CLINIC
Sq. Footage: approx. 2700 NET SF
Project Duration: 12 weeks
Assigned to design a small, pediatric clinic in Topeka, KS. Began with gathering research related to supportive design, calming design elements, adolescent-friendly clinics, and low-stimulating design for children with sensory-processing disorders. The concept of oasis developed throughout my research and initial design process. An oasis is something that provides relief, refuge, and peace in our everyday lives. Most people feel an immense amount of anxiety when entering a doctor’s office, especially children with sensory-processing disorders. Goal was to create a design that supports children of all ages and abilities. Both guests and staff will experience a calming and safe environment upon entering this oasis.
