FALL 2021 - SUMMER 2023
I’ve discovered how impactful architecture can be in practice. Rather than just shelter to provide positive mental and physical health, architecture can influence traffic, people, city planning and environmental elements to improve factors such as environment, needs for space, and functionality. Innovating ways of allowing sunlight into a room can change aspects of the environment to improve the interior use of the space. This is just one tool I’ve learned to contribute to my efforts toward architecture.
In my educational and professional career, I’m not looking to simply produce what is asked but cultivate a product that adds to the world with a positive impact. I do not want to be a part of new architecture, I want to be a part of architecture that actively reduces its building footprint or gives back to the community which it serves, through design and purpose. I’ve learned that architecture is a tool we can use to help each other and solve problems with many skills. My goal is to create art that leaves a positive impact on the community which surrounds and interacts with it, I look forward to where architecture takes me.
THIRD YEAR OF ARCHITECTURE, I’M A STUDENT AT KU WITH A PASSION FOR SUSTAINABILITY, THE ENVIRONMENT, FASHION, SEWING, AND CREATING. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT WITH MY WORK.

Spring Semester
2023
A KU public space and exhibition center located on the southern side of campus off Naismith Drive and Sunnyside Avenue.
Building and Site Plan
The promenade is an elaboration of the prior project in the semester, a ribbon was the keyword in the design and that word sparked the process for this project.
In the Promenade the inspiring ribbon takes on a new form of movement and guidance in the building.
Strips of natural light and dark wood panels are paired together to give movement and direction to the space.
The preliminary exploration to the Promenade, this structure is an outdoor space on KU campus for public and student interaction.
Location was a time-investing piece to the Ribbon, with the first step being to find a place within the campus to connect the dispersed mid-west energy of the University of Kansas Lawrence campus. The context map on the furthermost left highlights the factors at play, landmarks like the Campanile, Allen, and Fraser, and the two defined parts of campus. The red outline is campus A and B is outlined blue. The factors at play were pieces of KU, defined by a team including myself, deemed important to KU as a whole and therefore important to our site where the structure will be intended for student and public activity. Considering the factors above, the location picked is displayed in the image to the left of this column. The site is just on the line of campus A and B a perfect place to ‘stitch’ the hubs of campus. Rather than working from square footage or a program a word was the inspiration for the physical space constructed in Revit. Ribbon was the word in my head when I sketched the images in black and white on this page. I sought for the architecture to pull and move someone through the space.
Human yellow brick road, campus, you see changed the creative later, starting a new challenge playful sense
perspective was key while establishing this structure. Similar to the imagery of the road, the ribbon guides you through the space and leads you towards the inner bustling see the structure guiding you beyond the rolling hills. Revit was the tool used, which creative and development processes of the project. Rather than free form first and scale with scale and floors is key in Revit. Techqucalities became before design, creating challenge to incorporate art in architecture. Playing with shadows and materials to create a of the ribbon.
2022 A business incubator located in historic downtown Lawrence. Two stories of shopping, dining, office spaces, and a common area to help small businesses thrive.
The site for this business incubator is located on historic downtown Massuchausteest Street in Lawrence. As shown to the right in the floor plan the site is rectangular with partition walls on either side. Given the outside constraints, the exterior was mainly unchangeable, so the interior became my focus. The angles rooms as walking through the first floor to draw people into the space, to give them the full experience of the amenities.
As this build was centered around engaging people, materials and their placement were important. Lighter stains of wood are better for natural light to bounce off, frosted glass also created a light feel inside paired with greenery, open air, and skylights.
Fall Semester
2022
Geode Studios is an art cultivating center including a public museum and workshop, mirrored by artists residents, and studios.
The chosen location for the art center in Lawrence was picked for its vacant space. Geode Studios sits in the corner of a currently empty parking lot space surrounded by retail. The reason for this space is to bring something to diverse the area’s architecture and bring a new element for the community’s enjoyment. For accessibility, this art center is located near the city bus stop and shopping centers. For the ideas phase of the project in order to get a shape I would sketch possible sites. What became my inspiration was a setup that was spilt into, public and private. When furthering the design in Rhino and actualizing it the shape took a more enclosing figure creating a unique third space for both public and private use, the outside.
The section cut to the left of this column shows the influence of shape discussed on the previous page in the final design. From the exterior, Geode Studios appears as two separate units, the workshop and museum, and the studio and artists’ residence. Through landscaping, The connection between the public and private sectors of the project is hidden in a tunnel surrounded on the exterior by grass to create a new engaging space outside, which the building encases.
This project gave me a chance to think about space beyond what we can build walls, floors, and ceilings, but for space to be enclosed in any imaginable way. I took this approach to the whole process while designing in Rhino creating oneof-a-kind elevations and sections. Everything apart of this project is custom fit to Geode Studios, every wall hand placed, and materials on the outside of the studios shown in the renderings to the left are hand drawn just for the exterior of this building.
An exporlation into how humans move and take up space in relation to architecture.
Simpler diagrams were pulled from above to have a less human form, line based figure was deemed the reference diagram going forward. Following were many iterations of different representations of form in space.
A final selection to inspire the final part of the project. The image above and to the left the next step in motion. Above in the middle and to the right both show 3 different points on
The two diagrams to the left were movements extracted frame by frame from a video, drawn by hand. Precision was key to creating the elements which composed these, every frame had to line up with the next and have a cohesive story.
Tuck and Roll is constructed of delicately modeled cardstock used to represent the diagrams. The motion simplified in the diagram was the guiding design for the model, the colors are used to distinguish different sides of the figure as it proceeds through motion.
The achieved goal of the wall system was to create a structure that could stand and be comprised of no glue or tape, just card stock and dowels. Foral twists and turns comprise the pattern which creates The Wall System.
Before the structure came the exploring of shapes with cardstock, twists, and turns were what I experimented with to create the large flower to the right of this column. The other pictured black and white graphics show how the foral form is made from simple lines cut into paper. After gathering an understanding of how to move the paper, in order to create a structure I needed a pattern easy to replicate. This is where the small individual pieces were created to comprise the wall.
Entricatly woven dowels are place in the petal layers of each flower to create the structure
Fold the paper in half on the bold lines, points A and B.
Cut on dashed lines. DO NOT cut to edge of paper.
Flip the paper over. Push piece 2 (green) back and to the right behind piece 3. Pull inward slighttly at point C to allow
Bring both corners A and B together to form a loop on
Make sure all pieces are secured, use glue on the conners and where neeed.
Continue twisting piece 2, curve piece 3 slightly to form one shape with both piece.

The aim of these sketches was to relax and take the pressure out of sketching, capturing the essence of a place rather than accuracy.
