Corte Suprema evalúa intento de Trump por eliminar ciudadanía por nacimiento
La Corte Suprema de EE.UU. escuchó recientemente los argumentos de la Administración Trump para restringir el derecho a la ciudadanía automática para hijos de inmigrantes indocumentados nacidos en el país. Esta propuesta, que reinterpretaría la Enmienda 14 de la Constitución —vigente desde 1868— fue ampliamente cuestionada por los jueces, quienes mostraron escepticismo ante el intento de invalidar un principio legal que ha garantizado la igualdad de derechos durante más de un siglo.

Supreme Court Reviews Trump’s Attempt to End Birthright Citizenship
The U.S. Supreme Court recently heard arguments from the Trump administration seeking to restrict automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants.This proposal, which would reinterpret the 14th Amendment of the Constitution — in effect since 1868 — was met with skepticism by several justices, who questioned the attempt to undo a legal principle that has ensured equal rights for over a century.
Former Trump attorney John Sauer argued that birthright citizenship was intended only for the children of formerly enslaved people, not for the children of undocumented immigrants. Many times, our work goes unnoticed. When our kids are little, those sleepless nights are exhausting.
Muchas se pueden identificar. Te quedabas
casi dormida en el trabajo, debido al agotamiento.
So many can relate— barely staying awake at work from pure exhaustion.
A veces, es muy difícil preparar comida, lavar la ropa, trabajar fuera y servir en el ministerio, y al final del día tener una linda sonrisa para nuestro esposo. Sometimes it feels nearly impossible to cook, do laundry, work outside the home, serve at church, and still offer a warm smile to your husband at the end of the day.
Pero, a pesar de todo, ser mamá es bello.
Yet, in spite of it all, motherhood is
beautiful.
No hay trabajo más importante que criar a la próxima generación.
There’s no more important job than raising the next generation.

Leadership is not only measured by the ability to make strategic decisions, but also by the way a leader relates to themselves and their team. Internal attitudes, such as self-pity versus selfjustification, play a critical role in how a leader deals with their own challenges and how those behaviors impact their employees. One of the most common barriers leaders face is the need to protect their image and ego, which can lead
to a tendency toward self-justification, rather than embracing self-pity.

In my 15 years as an immigration attorney, I’ve seen how having a pending case with immigration authorities can serve as a protective shield for those seeking to legalize their status. In today’s turbulent climate, that protection is more valuable than ever because:
1. Estás dentro del sistema legal:
Cuando un inmigrante inicia un proceso migratorio, queda registrado formalmente ante el Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración (USCIS). Esto puede brindar protección ante posibles acciones de cumplimiento migratorio, especialmente si la solicitud se está tramitando de buena fe.
You’re in the legal system: When an immigrant initiates an immigration process, they are formally registered with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This can provide protection from enforcement actions, especially when the petition is filed in good faith.

The Cuban regime has just revoked the parole of José Daniel Ferrer and Félix Navarro, two of the main opposition leaders. It is only logical to wonder how the international community will respond.
Durante años,hemos escuchado la justificación de que la cautela extrema mostrada por funcionarios de la ONU en relación con las graves y sistemáticas violaciones de derechos humanos perpetradas por el régimen cubano, se debe a la necesidad de mantener una suerte de “teléfono rojo”, listo para ser
utilizado en momentos críticos. De manera similar, desde el Servicio Europeo de Acción Exterior (EEAS), de la Unión Europea, se ha insistido repetidamente en la importancia de mantener un “diálogo constructivo” con el gobierno cubano, argumentando que esta es la vía para poder brindar ayuda efectiva al pueblo cubano. For years, we’ve heard the justification that the extreme caution shown by UN officials regarding the serious and systematic human rights violations committed by the Cuban regime is due to the need to maintain a sort of “red phone,” ready to be used in critical moments. Similarly, from the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the European Union, there has been repeated insistence on the importance of maintaining a “constructive dialogue” with the Cuban government, arguing that this is the way to provide effective help to the Cuban people.
Michelle Bachelet, y el actual titular del cargo, Volker Türk, debían tener operativo, ha demostrado ser ineficaz, aunque también existe la duda sobre si en algún momento ha sido levantado. However, the tangible reality calls these strategies into question. The so-called “red phone” that former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and current commissioner Volker Türk were supposed to keep active has proven to be ineffective—if it was ever used at all.Their serious omissions and the lack of proactive oversight inherent to their roles have not produced tangible results for real changes in rights or humanitarian matters, such as the release of an ill political prisoner.

Likewise, Josep Borrell’s acquiescence (2019–2024) earned him the unusual criticism from Kremlin circles, questioning why he didn’t treat Russia with the same consideration as Cuba.
La apuesta por la agenda legislativa promovida por el régimen cubano que logró engatusar a funcionarios de la ONU y de la Comisión Europea, también ha resultado ser un fiasco con graves consecuencias para el pueblo cubano. Su monumento principal, el nuevo Código Penal, se revela tan restrictivo como su predecesor, aunque más perverso, debido a su nivel de detalle en la criminalización de la disidencia y la libertad de expresión y el aumento del número de delitos que pueden conllevar la pena de muerte. A este se suma el caso de la Ley de Garantías de Derechos Fundamentales, una normativa que irónicamente no garantiza prácticamente nada, al excluir explícitamente la posibilidad de presentar denuncias precisamente contra los estamentos del Estado encargados de la represión política en el país.
The legislative agenda promoted by the Cuban regime, which managed to fool UN and EU officials, has also proven to be a failure—with serious consequences for the Cuban people. Its main product, the new Penal Code, is just as restrictive as its predecessor, but even more perverse due to its detailed criminalization of dissent and freedom of expression, and the increased number of offenses that could carry the death penalty. Added to this is the so-called
Law of Guarantees of Fundamental Rights, a regulation that ironically guarantees almost nothing, as it explicitly excludes the possibility of filing complaints against the very branches of the State responsible for political repression.
La amarga verdad es que ni un solo preso político ha sido liberado como resultado del invocado “teléfono rojo” de la ONU, ni el tan pregonado “diálogo constructivo” de la UE ha logrado mejoras significativas y duraderas en la situación de los derechos humanos en Cuba, incluidos los económicos.
The bitter truth is that not a single political prisoner has been released as a result of the UN’s supposed “red phone,” nor has the EU’s much-promoted “constructive dialogue” achieved any meaningful or lasting improvements in the human rights situation in Cuba—including economic rights.
Estas estrategias, presentadas como herramientas pragmáticas y necesarias, se han revelado como ejercicios retóricos vacíos, incapaces de generar un impacto real en la vida de quienes sufren bajo la opresión. These strategies, presented as pragmatic and necessary tools, have turned out to be empty rhetorical exercises, incapable of generating any real impact on the lives of those suffering under oppression. For a while, they blamed the Cuban people for not protesting—but when the people did, some in Europe were quick to issue condemnations… of the U.S. embargo instead.
Dando la ONU perdida por ahora, se hace imprescindible un urgente giro de timón en la política internacional hacia Cuba, especialmente de la Unión Europea. Esto no implica adoptar una postura incendiaria ni romper los puentes de comunicación, sino mantener una posición firme e inequívoca en la defensa de los derechos humanos y la promoción de cambios democráticos reales en la isla, comenzando por reconocer como interlocutores de primera a los
líderes de la oposición y la sociedad civil. Solo a través de una presión constante y principios claros se podrá aspirar a un futuro donde los derechos y las libertades fundamentales sean una realidad para todos los cubanos. With the UN lost for now, a sharp and urgent shift in international policy toward Cuba— especially from the European Union—is imperative. This does not mean taking a hostile stance or severing communication channels, but rather holding a firm and unequivocal position in defending human rights and promoting real democratic changes on the island, starting with recognizing opposition leaders and civil society as primary interlocutors. Only through sustained pressure and clear principles can we aspire to a future where fundamental rights and freedoms are a reality for all Cubans.
