MISSING TEENAGER MURDERED: DNA TESTS CONFIRM IDENTITY
Burned body identified ZINTLE BOBELO
T
HE family of the 13-year-old girl from Eskom in Mlungisi who went missing last month has been left distraught after receiving DNA test results confirming the death of the young girl. Queenstown Express reported on September 7 that Vuyolwethu Hemeni, a Grade 7 learner at Edlelweni Public Primary School, went missing on August 25 when she was supposed to meet a group of
school friends at the Queenstown Public Library for a project. Hemeni had decided to walk home to drop off her school bag first, as she was not staying far from the school, but she never made it home that day. Queenstown Express also reported on August 31 that police were investigating a case of murder after neighbours discovered an unidentified burned body in a trench near John Noah High School in Eskom, Mlungisi. Komani police communications
spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, said DNA test results taken from the mother of the missing child and from the remains left on the scene where the burned body was found came back positive on September 22. “No arrests have been made. “A case of murder has been opened and we are appealing to anyone who might have information to please come forward by contacting Lieutenant Colonel Bulelwa Lembese on 086 001 0111 or Mdleleni on 082 779 7237.”
Family spokesperson, Sinazo Xokiyane, said the family was having difficulty in accepting the tragedy. “I don’t even know what to say at this point. Her mother is struggling with the loss.” Xokiyane said the family was preparing for tomorrow’s funeral. ; The burned body of 13yearold Vuyolwethu Hemeni was discovered near John Noah High School.
