Prison break: three still at large SANELE JAMES

T

he South African Police Service are still on the lookout for three detainees who escaped from the Queenstown SAPS holding cells.

Five prisoners escaped on Saturday February 13, at about 5.30pm while the police officers were busy reporting on and off duty. Two of the prisoners were rearrested on

February, 14. According to a statement issued by the SAPS, the detainees were initially arrested in possession of unlicensed firearms in December 2015 and January 2016. There are no previous convictions against them. Additional charges of escaping from lawful custody have now been added to the existing charges. The three who are still at large are Kholekile Gqomfa (40), Malusi Nobopha (22) and Mark

Mantirimani (28), while Athenkosi Nqabisa (26) and Godfrey Beets (22) were rearrested. Queenstown SAPS Spokesperson, Namhla Mdleleni, asked members of the public not to attempt to arrest the escapees on their own as they are deemed dangerous. People with info on the whereabouts of the escapees should rather contact Lt Colonel Paul Oranje at 082 779 7247, or SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10 111 or Crime Line 32211. All information will be treated as confidential.
