ISLAND HISTORY
TR & RT WARREN SHIELD
The Warren family have been proud Club Members for four generations since Bob (dec) joined as a young man in 1956. Robert (Tommy) followed in his father’s footsteps, joining when he was just 15yrs old with his brothers, Gary and Murray (dec) eventually becoming members as well. Continuing the family tradition, Robert’s son and grandson, Murray and Ryley joined a few years ago. Their combined years of membership almost outweighs the Club’s long history.

As leading lights and winners of numerous Gold Letter events and Club Championships, the Warren’s have made an indelible mark on QGC and have built amazing friendships throughout the years. The family wanted to give back and show their gratitude to the Club for providing them the platform to create many great golfing memories. After instigating the TR & RT Warren Shield 2Person Ambrose Event for the first time in 2014, the family are chuffed to be celebrating their 10th year of sponsorship.
This year’s event was held over two rounds on Sat 18 & Sat 25 May. With ideal golf conditions both days, the participants took to the field with typical QGC banter and a burning desire for success. And, of course, a proud Warren family member represented, with Murray and his partner, Len Aylward, making the leaderboard to take out a close fourth.
DID YOU KNOW...
In 1908, the newly opened Golf Club shared Swan Island with a Rifle Club. The official opening on 10 November 1908 featured a triangular match fired between the Royal Australian Artillery, Royal Australian Engineers and members of the Queenscliff Rifle Club. The teams competed for a prize pool of 10 pounds.

COURSE UPDATE
FOWL PLAY
By Jake SizerDUCK DOO (DOO)
The battle with ducks is becoming a major issue on a fair few greens. The ducks have claimed greens such as 3rd,7th and 11th as their personal toilet. The ducks are coming onto our greens for moisture when its been dewy overnight with no cloud cover. If its been dry overnight the next day the greens have hardly and duck poo on there.

The duck poo leaves dark green circles on the green and also smears when we either cut or roll the turf surface. This makes the green look very untidy and can also deviate the ball when putting.
DUCK DON’T...
We are currently trialling a product that deters animals such as ducks, birds, rodents and kangaroos This is a safe product that is not harmful to animals or humans. It’s important for us to stay natural and stray away from chemical use because of our native habitat on the Island. We hope this product works well on the ducks as well as the kangaroos from chewing our greens.
Hope everyone has a great time golfing on the course.
Jake
