FUNDRAISER FUNDRAISER FUNDRAISER

An idea Batto shared with the Committee just a few months ago to raise funds for much-needed equipment has come to fruition.

We thought the AFL Grand Final Eve Public Holiday would be most appropriate... even though Carlton’s appearance on the big day looks mighty unlikely.

Do you have a penchant to keeping ‘stuff’?

We hope so!! The Committee are searching for any historical records you may have hiding in your closet - past AGM Reports, Meeting Minutes, etc.

Hello there!

s the season progresses and the days start to get longer, it’s an citing time for golf at Queenscliff We’ve seen some excellent articipation across our events, and it’s great to witness both the maraderie and competitive spirit among members

ur Men’s championship competition has seen strong turnouts, with me tight finishes and impressive rounds. Good luck to everyone aying in the finals on Sunday.

The 44th Golden Putter was a great success! There were a total of 64 ladies competing which was won by Karyn Martin (Ocean Grove GC) and Kaeshyn Toohey (East Geelong GC) with an outstanding score of 47 on a countback from QGCs very own Julie Welsh and Georgie White Thank you to Anthony Webber (Lake and Land) for his continued sponsorship of this prestigious event

Indoors, the raffle was a highly contested activity with the ladies fired up to win Wonderful prizes included a yoga package from Samana, a meat tray from Bellarine Country Butchers and even a bottle of Moet donated by one of our members!

A special shoutout to our grounds staff who work tirelessly to ensure the course is in great shape. The club’s investment in course improvements is starting to bear fruit. The greens have been rolling beautifully, and the bunkers have been given some much-needed attention We appreciate everyone’s patience during the works and trust you’re enjoying the enhanced playing experience

BUNKER ACTION CONTINUES...

It has been a very busy week out on the course for my staff and I. In addition to the preparation for this weekend's final rounds of the club championships we had the annual Golden Putter ladies event on Friday the 23rd. We hope the course plays nicely over these 3 days for every golfer participating.

Bunker renovation works have still been underway across the course. This week we raised the two lefthand bunkers on 12. These bunkers have had many years of wind blowing the sand out and has been in need of a top-up. We raised both these bunkers by 500mm. (See photo of our very own model Webby) The bunker was hip height, now it’s below knee height.

These bunkers are now back in play but the tyre marks coming into each bunker are ACC. Topdressing and some nice weather will fix this up.

All the bunkers that we have been working lately may have some debris and rocks in them. After a few weeks of the sand settling down these will go and as each one surfaces we will remove. The sand used lately is our natural sand so this is why it may contain some debris.

Good luck to everyone who is competing in the final rounds of the club championships. You have worked hard to be there. Enjoy the golf but make sure you bring your best game! Jake

This week the crew worked hard and fast to get the course restroom back in order. Unfortunately, just when we thought the leaky pipes were plugged, another one spouted Thankfully the expert assistance of Mark Riley will (eventually) get the tank back on par your patience is greatly appreciated!

MATCH PLAY - YOU WIN THAT ONE...

To concede or not?

Essentially, in stroke play, the players are playing against the entire field, not just against those in their group. This means each player must hole out at every hole for the round to be completed (Rule 3.3c). However, in Match Play, the only scores that matter are of the two players involved in the match.

This means a player has the option to concede their opponent’s next stroke at any time before their opponent plays. The player can even concede a hole before the hole is completed or the match at any time before the result of the match is decided.

It is normal for a player to concede their opponent’s next stroke when they have a short putt that the player does not expect them to miss, or if the player has played too many strokes on the hole and it is very unlikely they can win or halve the hole.

Concessions can be an important tactic in match play as a player might decide to concede shorter putts early in the match but make their opponent hole out later in the match when the pressure is on.

The key is to ensure that any concessions are clearly communicated to the opponent verbally or by an action that clearly shows the intent to concede the stoke, hole or match.

Finally, it is worth remembering that a concession cannot be declined or withdrawn So, if your opponent asks you, “Are you sure?” when you concede them a putt, you are not allowed to change your mind under the Rules.

EXCUSE ME, IS THAT ETIQUETTE OR A RULE... ?

Whilst we're far from playing the PGA Tour circuit, there's still a maze of unwritten "rules” known as Golf Etiquette that players are expected to follow - courtesy of Sean Fairholm from mygolfspy.com

Taking care of bunkers is a big deal in competitive golf... for good reason! A bunkier should be returned to more or less the same condition as when you entered it. Ending up in a random footprint caused by carelessness could unfairly cost someone a stroke.

To avoid this means raking backwards - starting from where yo hit and going back to where you originally walked into the bunker.

And where you walk in is important too. Avoid walking in on the high side of the lip because that can create a much larger mess with your footprints. Walking in at a low point, closest to where your ball is means you can access it without building a sandcastle.
