Hi there!
Well done to everyone who participated in the Syd McSween Shield. It is a huge commitment to participate in three consecutive rounds. Congratulations to Peter Jacobs winning with 79. Then it was a close finish with count backs required for 2nd (Dominic Podbury) and 3rd (Dave West).
It has been a beautiful week for golf. Wednesday’s competition saw a good size field of 106 take part. Well done Steve McGowan who had a score of 42! Let’s hope this spring weather continues for the men competing in the Monthly Medal on Saturday.
The Jubilee Shield between Queenscliff and Lonsdale Links was played on Thursday. This was the 71st time the shield has been played since 1951. And interestingly it ended being a draw! It was a wonderful day of golf and a chance to learn about Match Play from mentors from Lonsdale Links. We will continue this yearly event, alternating courses, with the host club determining the conditions of play.
There has been much conjecture regarding the 2023 and 2024 Women’s Championships. Some thought that the field in 2023 was too small and that it should be played again. After advice from Golf Australia and SWGA the winner for 2023 is Sue Merriman. Due to diminished legitimacy of the 2 week event held in February, this event has become null and void. The 2024 women’s championship will be played over the next 3 weeks - as per the QGC curriculum.
Coming up on Tuesday is the Andy Pickles Memorial Day. This is the second year for this 4 person Ambrose event in honour of a valued long term member of the club. I thank Drummond Golf for their continued support and I wish everyone a great day.
Good luck to our team of ladies who are competing in the Barwon Valley Bowl event on Friday.
See you on the course, Barb
The perfect nod of the pink hat to Batto's legacy... 116 players, plenty of sunshine, loads of laughs and even a little dance or two on the green. A massive thank you to all the volunteers, who provided amazing support throughout the day, to the QGC crew for their tireless work in preparing for the event, to Tim Moore PGA Pro for his handy (free) tips on the 9th, Richard Lewis, Paul Sfetkidis and Paul Lappin for the auction items and to our sponsors, without whom it would have been only half the success!
And, importantly, to Batto's family, his great mates, and fellow golfers, thank you for bringing your A-game and sparkling enthusiasm to the island! Visit the website to get the lowdown..

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS.
The wave project was a proposed wetland area to be constructed for the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). This is the wetland between 6,7 and 8. This project was to be done in proposed wetland extension is exactly what we have just started in October 2024 (see map).

The benefits of doing this wetland extension isn’t just for environmental but for our course aswell. The sand was divided up into 3 piles. Dark top layer soil, topdressing sand and lower wet salty sand. This sand will get used across the course for doing jobs such as topdressing and levelling tees and fairways, filling low spots and building mounds. The cost of buying in this sand would be astonishing.
The plan was to load the top dresser straight from the mound to put onto the fairways but we had problems with our top dresser. So please excuse the sand piles around the course for the short while. This piles will have to be put out into bare areas by hand and is a slow process. Apologies for the short notice and if any of the sand piles cause any grief to golf.
A big thank you to Anthony Webber and Cruze from Lake and Land again for their helping hand in this project. Great members like these two make these jobs possible and help the club a long way.
The new 9th Tee will be opening soon. The plan is for the tee to be opened on Wednesday the 6th November after Melbourne Cup day. We have been lowering the tee cutting height over the past 2 weeks. We have confidence the turf will be able to hold up against the divots from irons.
Happy Golfing, Jake
