Our commitment to upgrading club facilities is continuing and last month saw the resurfacing of the entrance road, covering the pot holes for a much smoother drive! This is part of a long term project to upgrade the carpark, which will gradually take place over a few years.
The commencement of the Veterans weekly competition has a lot of our members excited, an 18 or 9 hole comp. Men and Women over 55 are encouraged to join!
We are always on the look out for more members to join our team of Vollies – the more hands the lighter the load as the saying goes. This group of superstars are very appreciated, as Jake mentions in the course report. If you would like to volunteer please contact Peter McSween via the club.
The annual Golden Putter, sponsored by Anthony Webber of Lake and Land, held on the 25th August was a huge success, we thank everyone who was involved to make the day as good as it was. And we thank Anthony for supporting women in sport.
If you haven’t already bought yourself a new QGC Logoed club cover, ball bag or divot tool they are available at the bar. They look amazing and are a fabulous way of promoting our club.
Happy Golfing!
Brad Teal OAM President. This Month we have seen an increase in growth throughout the course due to some warmer temperatures and the right amount of rain coming towards the end of winter. This months total rainfall was 43mm. Last month we only had 15mm. Current yearly total of 273mm.
Greens:
We have had a constant battle with disease (winter fusarium) on the greens. Greens have been regularly rolled and stimp metered. Greens have been running at 10 feet in August.
Recently we have lightly dethatched the greens to help thin out the greens and open up the moss. This will help with making the greens quicker and smoother and also help with the disease issue.

Fine cut turf:
Start of the month we hired a Toro pro core with solid tines installed to punch holes in the surrounds and high traffic areas. This turf practice is used to relieve compaction and open up the soils that have issues.
Fairways and rough:
We have had to dust off our rough mower and mow selected areas. Certain fairways are getting cut multiple times in the week compared to others on a weekly rotation. In September we have some fairways booked in for some scarifying to help promote growth and remove the spongey thatch.
Volunteers:
Thanks to all our volunteers that dedicate their time each and every Monday. Your time helps us focus on other jobs around course that is needed so we appreciate you all.
The works going on to remove all the Italian Buckthorn isn’t a pretty job and all the volunteers are doing a tremendous job of this. As well as the divoting of tees and bins etc.
We are currently preparing the course for the growing period of spring which is approaching. Turf practises such as Coring and Scarifying will be taking place over the course in the next few months.
Happy Golfing.
