Our new 9-hole competition got off to a great start this week, and while only a handful of players took up the opportunity, those who did had an absolute blast. The shorter format proved to be a perfect mix of relaxed and competitive golf, allowing for a quick round while still testing everyone’s skills. The feedback has been fantastic, with many saying it’s a great way to squeeze in a game during a busy week. I encourage more of you to give it a go—whether you’re short on time, looking for a casual round, or just keen to mix things up, this is the perfect chance to enjoy a fun and social game without the full 18-hole commitment. Congratulations to Chris McManus who took out the first round with a score of 23!
Saturday was a superb day to play golf (according to Brad Teal) – he took out the first of the Monthly Stroke Medals with a score of 68 from 140 players!
Congratulations to:
A Grade – Tom Warren (3) & Darren Forssman (11)
B Grade – Jack Redden (15) & Lee McKay (12)
C Grade – Brad Teal (17) & Bill Beggs (21)
D Grade – Alan Wiggs (23) & Jason Compton (26)
Wednesday proved to be a much cooler day for 115 golfers to take part in the Stableford competition. Congratulations to Paul Summers with a score of 41! Well done to:
A Grade – Peter Coltish (8) & Tom Freeman (9)
B Grade – Anthony Webber (14) & Michael Ryan (14)
C Grade – Darren Belsar (21) & Alex Korostin (21)
D Grade – Paul Summers (22) & Val Bibby (31)
Another warm day saw 16 Ladies take to the course for their Stableford competition. Congratulations to Pam Cameron with a score of 34.
Many of us have encountered kangaroos on the course, but did you know that under the Rules of Golf (as applied in Australia), if your ball comes to rest against a kangaroo or is moved by one, you are entitled to a free drop?
According to Rule 11.1, if an “outside influence” (such as a kangaroo) moves your ball, you must replace it on its original spot without penalty. If you’re unsure where that spot wa you can estimate it as best as possible. However, if the kangaroo is it away!
So, next time a curious roo interferes your side! Thank you to some of the ladies from Anglesea who clarified this one!

The club has decided to cancel the reciprocal arrangement with our neighbour Lonsdale Links GC.
This decision was not made lightly and QGC intends to still work with Lonsdale Links to continue Challenge Shields for both Men & Ladies. It was the opinion of the committee voting unanimously to review in the first instance and then voting unanimously to cancel the arrangement and notify Lonsdale Links recently of our decision.
The feeling was very strong that we had become an overflow course for Lonsdale and reciprocal players from Lonsdale were taking up valuable green fee time-slots on the time sheet. That was always great for Lonsdale Links as a reward for developing their club and course. Lonsdale members are always welcome to play at our club as our members are to play theirs. We felt especially over peak times the arrangement wasn’t working at all as a true reciprocal arrangement.
We are always searching for reciprocal clubs and in fact our late Captain was heading a Committee to expand the reciprocal clubs list. We recently announced reciprocal arrangements with Shepparton Golf Club and have others such as Barham and Mallacoota Gc to share with and we will continue to approach other clubs.
In the end, this decision ends approximately ten years of reciprocal arrangements with our nearest neighbour. When we have guest days, we encourage you to invite your friends who are members across the bridge and equally we hope they will do the same.
We believe this is the best outcome for our club.
