Our fantastic course was buzzing with energy over the weekend as we welcomed an impressive 430 golfers! The perfect blend of great weather and our beautifully maintained greens created the ideal conditions for players of all skill levels to enjoy the game!
Golf etiquette is essential to maintaining the course and ensuring a great experience for all players One key aspect is respecting course markings, such as stakes and ropes, which are in place to protect certain areas If you need to remove a stake or rope to take your shot, always replace it afterwards. These barriers help preserve the course by directing traffic away from sensitive areas, preventing unnecessary wear and tear. Leaving them displaced can lead to damaged turf and an unfair playing experience for others. A little consideration goes a long way in keeping the course in top condition for everyone.

We had 17 golfers in this week’s Ladies Stroke event. Congratulations to Eileen Ransom with a great score of 69. With no newsletter going out last week we missed acknowledging Siobhan Lyons’ Hole in One on the 3rd in last week's competition. I hope you enjoyed your celebrations!
Some of you have noticed that the 150 markers have been removed These are going to be replaced with modern blue distance discs, on the fairway So, for now, you will need to rely on the sprinkler heads, Miscore and your range finders to help with your distances!
Just a reminder if you have any issues or suggestions with conditions on the course to use the appropriate channel of either myself, Rob or the members of Match Committee. Please do not approach the greens staff.
Wishing our 2 Pennant teams the best of luck as they begin their season on Sunday!
See you on the course, Barb
As we enter Autumn and prepare for winter, we are focussing on the health of our greens. Our greens over the summer have been put under a lot of stress with the number of golfers each and every day The lack of rain has meant our greens have been heavily reliant on our irrigation system and hand watering. This is where our moss issue on the greens started Poor surface drainage and using high levels of town water. As most of you may be aware now the moss has gone brown/black after we have sprayed for it This will take time to recover but we are confident we are doing all t right practices to remove the issue.
We have been very busy with mini renovations on the greens continue the best playability all year We have been aerating o greens each week with our spiked rollers. We have been lig dethatching with our Vert-mowing heads. This also helps open the moss to dry out
This week we had Adam from turfAir with his Air2g2 machin This machine is so beneficial to our greens. It has 3 prongs that 300mm into our soil that push air into the subsurface allowing for more water infiltration, promoting root depth and relievi compaction on our greens. This is a great mini renovation as leaves little to no disruption to the playing surface and can played instantly. We look forward to seeing the results as we c already feel the difference in the compaction levels when changi the holes
It is very obvious we are in desperate need of rain on our cours My team have been putting out fairway sprinklers on hoses tryi to keep any moisture in the surface but it is a losing battle. O course not having fairway irrigation or a water source/storag makes it really hard to keep up with courses that do. But hopefully, we are at the end of the dry spell.
Happy Golfing, Jake

The first round of pennant is being played this coming Sunday 16 March with the Division Three team playing against Queens Park at 13th Beach and the Handicap East team up against St Leonard’s at Clifton Springs. Pennant provides an opportunity for our members to represent this great club and it would be a bonus to see some of our members coming along to spectate each week. Our players really appreciate the support.
Smaller clubs such as Queenscliff rely on sponsors and I would like to thank member and pennant player Anthony Webber (Lake & Land Pty Ltd) for sponsoring the pennant shirts for 2025. Your support is greatly appreciated Also, a special thanks to Tom and the team from The Golf Lab and Luka Pizza Bar Leopold for supporting our final pennant get-together and team announcements last night.
