The Course Report.....

Last week we had a visit from well known golf course architects Ross Perrett and Bernie Hogan

Ross Perrett and co have worked on some of the greatest courses in Australia and around the world including The National, Moonah Links, Sandhurst, Royal Canberra, Twin Waters, and The Dukes course St.Andrew’s. Some members of the greens committee and myself caught up with Ross and Bernie for a course walk to discuss any future course improvements

This is very important for the club to know which direction the course is going for the future The island is so special with its environment that it needs to stay the same coastal style moving forward Because the island is so unique it would be a shame for someone to come in and decide to change the course structure as well as plant vegetation that isn’t native to our island

The perfect example of this is the Wave project between 7th and 8th fairways. As you can see this project promotes all the native island vegetation Some of these plants have been propagated from our own island Some of these plants are, Knobby club rush, Coastal Tussock, Coastal sword sedge, Flax lilly, Beaded glasswort, Angular Sea-fig (Pigface)

The visits with these architects is great for the club This will have actions in place so any course improvements and changes will not be disrupting the native vegetation but more expanding the islands natural environment For example gum trees are not the islands natural vegetation but Leucopogon (bearded heath’s) and Melaleuca (Moonah’s) are.

Hope everyone has a great weekend golfing out on the course

Jake

Men’s Pennant update

Our second pennant practice was held last Sunday with ten players from the Division Four and Handicap Teams taking on a composite group of players from Lonsdale Links.

In very easy playing conditions we ended up winning four matches each with two being halved.

A big thank you to all who attended. A few photos before tee off are shown below

The pennant season begins on Sunday 17 March with the Division Four team playing against Winchelsea at Ocean Grove and the Handicap team playing Ocean Grove at St Leonard’s

The Pennant Captains for 2024 will be Michael McSween for Division Four and Warren Fenton for Handicap East

A big thank you to Michael and Warren for taking this on again this year

We now have good numbers for both the Division Four and Handicap teams but if you’re interested in playing don’t hesitate to give Dick Lewis a call or email

Peter Hammerli was a longtime treasurer of our club and someone to whom we all indebted as we enjoy the facilities and course of the Queenscliff Golf Club

We thank you for your cooperation last Friday & wanted to share the happy couples thanks as well (via email)

Hi Rob, Fraser, Kim and the Queenscliff Golf Club team,

Viv and I wanted to say a massive thank you for helping us celebrate our dream wedding last Friday! We could not have asked for more and all our guests commented on how beautiful the scenery was.

Thank you for all your help and support in the lead up to the day; including communicating with the Department of Defence and arranging security etc

Including some photos below from our special day (please forward to Nikki in Fiji as well) I will send through more when Ash sends us the full album.

Also, hope you had some luck downloading the security footage - could be a good laugh!

We are hoping to come over for one last drink at the golf club tomorrow afternoon before heading home so will come say hello then

Thanks,

Thanks......
