APRIL 2024

The Course Report.....

This week we were very busy with the general maintenance of the course, Having a short week and planning around golf days (RSL Day, Mens comp and a busy green fee Friday). This meant all our usual maintenance in 5 days was funnelled into 3 5 days Our guys worked extra hard and still managed to get our jobs completed

Another 10mm of rain on the course this week means our monthly total has now reached 70mm. This months rain is really showing out on the course!

This week we started the process of GPS pin pointing our current irrigation, with the surveyor contractors. Having no current mapping or documenting of our current irrigation system meant this is an important process we need moving forward for any future plans All tap boxes, Solenoids, sprinklers and total areas of all Tees and Greens will be GPS’d This progress will continue throughout next week

Hope everyone has a great weekend golfing out on the course

Relief when entire bunker is defined as Ground Under Repair.

When a bunker is being repaired and the Committee defines the entire bunker as Adverse Course Condition / ground under repair, it is treated as part of the general area. If your ball is in a bunker that the Committee has defined as ground under repair, you must take free relief outside the bunker by dropping a ball in the relief area:

Size of Relief Area/ Drop Zone measured from Reference Point: One club-length, but with these limits: Limits

"If a player's ball is in the ground under repair, left hand greenside bunker on the 3rd hole, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in the ground under repair, the player must take relief in the Drop Zone.

·The player must take free relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.

·

The drop Zone is defined by the purple stake front left of the green.

·The player must drop the ball within one club length of the purple stake no nearer the hole As illustrated below.

Please Note

The purpose of using a stake to define the Drop Zone is to allow the greens staff to quickly move the drop zone if the area becomes too worn given the limited area available.

RSL Golf Day

This week we had the privilege of hosting the 2024 RSL golf tournament The weather was magnificent, and although attendance was a little less that we would have liked everyone had a great day! Men’s Pennant Update

Queenscliff had a disappointing weekend with both teams suffering their first loss. This has not affected their positions on the ladder though with both the Division Four and Handicap East teams remaining on top of the ladder. Handicap East will play their last home and away game at Ocean Grove against second placed Lonsdale Links and a win will assure them a finals berth Division Four will host this week and have a bye before playing their last game the following week against Inverleigh.

The Handicap East team were very close to a win at Clifton Springs with two of their matches being lost on the 18th but went down 3/2 to Lara Brian Shiell and Anthony Webber had good wins with both players remaining undefeated. Division Four made the trek out to Inverleigh which is an 18 hole sand scrapes course to play third placed Colac The course was in poor condition while the scrapes were a little two paced (more sand on some compared to others) and the Colac team adapted to the course better on the day It was still a close contest with the team just going down 4/3 Michael Havelberg continued on his winning way and also remains undefeated.

The individual results and ladders are as follows:

Queenscliff Lost to Colac 4/3

Mick Havelberg Def Anthony Grinten 1 Up Michael McSween Lost to Julian Shaw 3/2

Bernie Crane Def Wayne Drayton 1 Up

Dave Thomas Def Mark Ritchie 3/2

Josh Mastin Lost to John Robb 2/1

James Gladman Lost David Walker 3/2

Kirk Whelan Lost to Richard Dinatale 2/1

Monday Volunteers

This week the Monday volunteers were working hard filling divots

They were able to do all of the front nine With the extra effort being put in by the course staff to encourage the new sessions growth the filling of the divots will help to maintain the great playing conditions that we are experiencing

If you’d like to be part of this amazing group - please contact Peter McSween via the club
