A New Chapter Begins

As the 2023-2024 service year comes to an end, our Vice President Samantha Chen, Treasurer Jordan Xie, Editor Aidan Hamid, and Webmaster Ruoxin Lin are officially retiring from their roles. Our Graphic Design Committee member, Jada, will also be retiring. As seniors, they will be graduating and moving on to the next chapter of their lives. We’ll miss them all dearly and wish them luck moving forward!

However, our story does not end there. Drumroll, please (dun dun dun)! Introducing our new board for the 2024-2025 service year: Sally as President, Claire as Vice President, Waverly and Ricky as CoTreasurers, Vicki as Secretary, Sharaf as Editor, and Ziling as Webmaster. We are looking forward to the new service year. Let’s make this an unforgettable term!

Hello hello! The end of sophomore year is near for me and I am so excited to be the new Bulletin Editor for the amazing school of Queens High School For Language Studies. I hope you all enjoy this cute brown animal theme and the individual event themes. I love using Canva as it is my go-to source and I hope to contribute to the spotlights and newsletters. Key Club helped me to gain volunteering experiences that I never thought to gain and envision my future. My latest hobby as of right now is taking pictures with my digital camera. Feel free to contact me anytime

FLUSHING ARTS FESTIVAL FLUSHING ARTS FESTIVAL

During the Flushing Kids Art Festival, I helped with the check-in as the parents of the kids came into the building. Within that, there was also monitoring of the kids to ensure fair competition and to see if anybody needed assistance in any way. After the competition ended, I brought back the artworks for the judges, who are artists themselves, to score. Based on the highest three scores for each age group: Group A being ages 4–7, Group B being 8–13, and Group C being 14–18, there were a total of nine winners: gold, silver, and bronze. It was fun to look at all of the beautiful artworks the contestants created and to be amazed to see several different techniques used. After the winners were announced, we got some free time, during which we played table tennis and pool. Although I'm quite trash at table tennis, it was fun to chase after the ball around the room and to defeat everyone in the pool”

“During my time at the Flushing Kids Art Festival, the duty I was assigned at the event was helping with the check-in. The people first had to fill out a form before participating in the event, when they arrived they were required to scan the QR code which then they signed in for their child. We got to witness many beautiful art from these kids with bright futures. One thing that was very fun for me was the table tennis; as it sparked great competition with one another after the event”

“During my time at the TD Five Borough Bike Tour, I was assigned to fill up the water bottles of the bikers who needed to fill up their bottles so they could rest for a bit and wasted no time getting to the next borough! Since the water fountain was located in a not very noticeable area, I and the other volunteers were screaming "water" to attract the people who needed refills! The day was full of fun and water, all the volunteers got wet since it was a rainy day! The TD Five Borough Bike Tour was an amazing experience and I'd love to go again!”

JAPAN FES JAPAN FES

“The time was overall enjoyable. Being a line manager was making sure that the line is organized and it was enjoyable to help set up flags and help with the clean up. For advertisement and surveys, it was harder to get a response from people because they didn’t want to do things that may require too much time; however, asking people for pictures that could be posted was a much more pleasant experience. It was nice seeing people have fun eating food at the Japan Festival”

- Vena Lin ‘26

“During Japan Fes, I had a lot of fun volunteering. The environment at Japan Fes was overall pretty fun, seeing people enjoy their time eating and just having fun spending time there. While managing the lines could be a bit monotonous, due to just standing there. It was my duty to be the marker for the end of the line. It was also very interesting to ask people to take photos of them as an advertisement for Japan Fes. Setting up the stands in the beginning was also pretty fun as it required hanging up the flags around the stalls”

“During my time volunteering at Japan Fes, I helped around by taking pictures of people visiting the event, and they were either eating foods or enjoying their time at Japan Fes. I helped put up Japan flags and helped control the lines so the event would go smoothly with no problems. My favorite part was definitely the shirts. The shirts every volunteer got to wear had the Japan Fes logo on the right side and we could figure out who were volunteers when we were walking around the bustling festival. Another favorite part of mine was how Japan Fes had so many pets that attended and some of them are even seen in the photos I’ve taken!”

“During the Big Climb event, I worked alongside other volunteers at various stations. My role involved cheering on climbers, ensuring that climbers stayed hydrated by handing out water, and assisting in distributing t-shirts to participants. I really liked how the instructions provided to volunteers were clear and the coordination was great! My favorite part of the day was when we were provided with delicious food”

- Jordan Xie ‘24

“During my time volunteering at the LLS Big Climb event, I helped out with cheering on volunteers and handing out water. They gave out free volunteer lanyards which we were able to take home after. The schedule was flexible with three shifts, ensuring that everyone was able to get a time when they were able to attend. What I liked most about the event was that they moved around the stations a lot, ensuring that no one was stuck at the same station for too long and got bored. Another thing that I liked was how they provided free lunch. The lunch was an assortment of sandwiches, cookies, and cupcakes along with a free assortment of beverages”
