Our task at the Green Oasis Garden was to manage the composting process. This involved emptying the compost and distributing it around the garden to be used as fertilizer. Next, we mixed old food scraps, soil, and dirt to create new compost. It was kind of gross and smelly, but in the end, we learned the importance of composting and its impact on the environment. We also met other dedicated volunteers who helped us learn more about the community and the environment!

We helped to cultivate the Green Oasis community garden through composting and creating plant-based fertilizer that was used throughout the garden to help the plants. We met Key Clubbers from other Key Clubs who were also dedicated to helping the garden. It was an extremely hot sunny day but the organizers gave us free iced water while we worked which was very nice.

At Green Oasis Garden, we helped to keep the community garden alive and thrive. We were able to learn about the process of creating plant fertilizer and even helped to distribute it around the garden and the trees on the sidewalk. We were also able to help create a new batch of plant fertilizer using things around the garden. My favorite part was that they provided free iced water.

While making cards with seniors, we spoke to them about their lives and what they did when they were our age. It was inspiring to hear their stories. They were so kind and I was glad to help them in any way I could. It helped me understand the community and the importance of connecting with one another! Plus, they provided snacks and goodies!

During the Project FEM x YWCA event, each volunteer was paired up with a few seniors while we all made cards that were used to put into care packages for women in a women ’ s shelter. The seniors were so nice and were very welcoming. They gave advice to the volunteers and were so fun to talk to. I also loved how the founders of Project FEM made delicious and healthy snacks for us to snack on while making the cards.

During the One Letter 4 All July Workshop, we wrote uplifting postcards to young refugees around the world and hopeful letters to youth in a detention center from Birmingham. They played very fun and upbeat music and provided yummy snacks! The organizers at this event also gave out free books which were very insightful and gave me some entertainment on my subway ride home from this event.
