PV Kids Welcome Summer With Music Music Recital • Joyful Music & Arts presented its 9th annual Student Concert featuring performances by musicians and singers of all ages from all over the Peninsula.

More than 60 performers took the stage at the Peninsula Community Church last week to produce a wide variety of musical expression from classic to rock, jazz, funk, gospel, duets, trios, big groups, family groups and soloists.

The concert marked the end of the calendar school year and the beginning of the summer music festival season. Peninsula musicians will also perform at the annual Street Fair and other venues during the summer months.

A Culinary Journey

Science Fair

Summer is just around the corner and with summer comes many vibrant flavors and ingredients. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast so I decided to take a simple recipe and make it new and exciting. I love pancakes and crepes but crepes are a lot of work and pancake batter gets boring after many meals.

If you are looking for a recipe that has a consistency and taste similar to a crepe but easy to make like a pancake then you came to the right person.

Summer Pancakes Make Mornings Exciting/Fun

My blueberry and lemon sour cream pancake starts by whisking eggs and vanilla together in a small bowl.

In a medium bowl you then combine the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.

There is not a lot of sugar as these pancakes are not very sweet as the lemon balances out the sweetness with its acidity.

If you like sweet pancakes you can add more sugar. If you prefer to eat pancakes with syrup then additional sugar is not necessary and the syrup is sweet enough. With a wooden spoon I stirred in sour cream which makes the pancakes more cake like and airy and

I was careful not to over mix as the dough would form a ball. I added my egg and vanilla mixture and whisked until the consistency of my batter changed from a dough to a form that was possible to scoop out.

I zested a lemon and added some lemon juice. You can add as much or little as you like. You can either stir in the blueberries or leave them out until you serve the pancakes as the pancakes can be hard to flip with blueberries in them. By using a ¼ of a cup I scooped out the batter and onto a griddle where I let them cook until golden brown.

During pools, she fenced students from Victor Valley, Harvard-Westlake, Vistamar, Marlborough and VAPA. She defeated all of her opponents, only allowing 4 touches against her in the 7 five-touch bouts.

It was the strangest thing listening to the PA announcer read off the batting orders for the Sea Kings and Panthers during the final varsity baseball game on the Peninsula last week.

Sea Kings Win Final Battle Baseball

• Palos Verdes and Peninsula split the rivarly series to force a third game for CIF playoffs and "King of the Hill" honors.

Panthers Roar Back . . . After losing the first game at PV, Peninsula came back to win the second game at home and force a third and final game at PV High.

After splitting the two game series against Peninsula and ending the season tied for third place, the Sea Kings hosted the Panthers in a match up that would determine the final Bay League

playoff spot.

A.J. Hollis started on the mound for Peninsula, and the Sea Kings quickly took the lead after scoring three runs in the first inning.

Junior Trey Silvano started for the Sea Kings and gave up only one run in an impressive outing.

Jacob Criss entered the game in relief and recorded the save for the Sea Kings, earning them a playoff spot while ending Peninsula’s season.

Sea Kings Are Kings of the Hill . . . The Palos Verdes High varsity baseball team won the third and final game against Peninsula High, 3-1, to take third place in the Bay League and qualify for CIF playoffs. PV got a 4-3 win over Beverly Hills in the first round before losing to Bishop Amat, 5-0.

Playoff Madness Hits Peninsula Little League

• The playoff season continues with games slated every day this week and Closing Day for all Peninsula Little Leagues set for next Saturday.

Only the Rolling Hills Intermediate Cubs finished the season with a perfect 18-0 record. The Lunada Bay Minors Yankees finished the regular season with 11 wins and one tie.

Jamie Robertson from RHLL and Ryan Roche from PVLL each hit nine home runs to lead the Peninsula.

Next edition of PANORAMA will be out June 14 with championship results.

Sea Kings Reach CIF Playoffs

. . . Continued from Page 8 The Sea Kings took on Beverly Hills at home in the wild card round of the CIF playoffs in a single elimination tournament format. After allowing the first three batters of the game to reach base, Sander Alley struck out the side to end the inning and was dominant for the rest of the game.

Palos Verdes scored first, but was only able to score one run through the first seven innings. Beverly Hills quickly tied the game, and the teams entered extra innings.

Alley left the game after seven innings and Silvano entered the game in relief. Due to a few batters reaching base and a misplayed single in the outfield, the Sea Kings found themselves trailing by two runs.

Kyle McElroy started the bottom of the eighth with a home run, bringing the Sea Kings within one run. Down to

their last strike and facing elimination, Will Thomas drove in the tying run for Palos Verdes. Silvano posted a scoreless inning, giving the Sea Kings a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded, senior Kyle Mashy singled in the winning run.

Palos Verdes traveled to Bishop Amat for the next round of the playoffs, a rematch of last year’s playoff game that ended the season for the Sea Kings.

Alec Abdallah started the game for Palos Verdes against a talented opposing lineup. Bishop Amat took the lead early, and despite several scoring opportunities the Sea Kings were unable to score. A final score of 5-0 ended the season for the Sea Kings.

Palos Verdes ended the season with a 20-11-1 record, a strong season regardless of the outcome of playoff performance.

Pony Enters New Season With Playoffs

Pony League

• Playoff action is in full swing this week with the final championship game scheduled for Saturday at Ernie Howlett Park.

The Dodgers won the regular season crown, but have already taken a playoff loss against the Yankees and will have faced the second-place Phillies Thursday.

The Yankees look strong for the playoffs after its 17-6 win over the Dodgers and so do the Red Sox after a 7-4 win over the third-place Pirates.

PV United Preserves Victory At Strawberry Cup Tournament Season

• AYSO PV Select and EXTRA teams enter the summer tournament season looking for firstplace trophies and medallions.

The Camarillo Strawberry Cup is about good times, good soccer and good friends. So PV United took off on an adventure the first week of May to try their luck against teams from distant lands.

The ever-improving United team was missing a few stars: master midfielder Makenna Meyer, dazzling striker Bella Agonia, ever-talkative striker/ midfielder Carolyn “the Caroler” Vogel and the passionate keeper/middie Paige “The Fortress” Forte. Paige also serves as the team interpreter during strategy sessions.

The coaching staff was aware of the stars that were sitting out this tournament and picked up some ringers from their sister team, the PV Heat.

Through difficult, but quick, negotiations, United was able to pick up a bargain in Bam Bam Bella D’Ambrosi and All-Nation Olivia Hutchings, to round out the squad.

What would turn out to be called the “Run in the Sun,” a streak of victories started with a dandy against the SB Skywalkers.

With a substitute coaching duo of “Gretchen and Sal”, United proved too powerful in a 6-1 win. You could feel the momentum building.

United had much more to prove that Saturday and after a good rest came back ready to showcase their skills against a powerhouse from Culver City.

Culver City was up to the task for several minutes, but the one-two punch of “too much offense and too tough defense” wore down the energetic Culver City team.

Goals for the day were racked up by many players, including Sasha “the Wizard” Theder, Violet “the Great” Fermanian, Scorin’ Lauren Donatoni, Hana “the Ace” Aguilar, Juju Julianna Panetta, Hannah “how did she do that” Baetge, Bam Bam Bella D’Ambrosi, Elysse “from distance” Tansavatdi and All-Nation Hutchings.

The midfield was dominated by Lauren, Sasha “Voom Voom” Vu, who played her best soccer of the year, and Elysse.

The defensive effort was fortified by

the “Not in my Kitchen” unit made up of Ellen “the Beast” Brandt, Bam Bam, Violet, Hannah, Hana and the Secretary of Defense herself, Jordyn Caro. The unit was anchored by none other than Juju Panetta, Sasha and Elysse who were lights out in the net.

The final score was 7-0. It was a busy day for PV United.

The evening was filled with joy, merriment, pizza and wonderful fellowship amongst the team families.

Sunday started out much the same against a persistent Ventura Bombers team with PV United getting up and staying up in a good battle ending in a 4-0 victory for United.

PV United was headed for the championship game.

The stage was set for an epic battle vs. the Hacienda Heights Elite team which also won their bracket with 29 points. The coaching staffs readied their teams and the clash of titans began.

Back and forth, like a finals match at Wimbledon, both teams gave as good as they got.

At the end of regulation the only score for United was after Hannah B was taken down in the box and she scored off of a rebound on the subsequent PK. The Elite fought back hard and quieted the United sideline with a long goal with minutes left in the third. When whistle blew the score was 1-1.

Overtime. Ten minutes of excellent soccer passed without a score. The game was going to a shootout.

PV United was forced to go first. The first attempt was unsuccessful and the Elite took advantage and scored first.

The girls were very excited. The pistolfooted Ellen the Beast took over and confidently targeted a ball just inside the left post and fist-pumped her way back to midfield.

Elite missed their next attempt and Scorin Lauren took full advantage and flew one just over the head of the keeper splashing the net.

Elite was denied by Juju. Jordyn Caro recently drafted by a team in Texas confidently struck the ball right at the keeper who had jumped too early to the right. GGGGGOOOOAAAALLLL. Juju the Great United keeper then stood between victory and more soccer.

Like a jaguar, Juju pounced and blocked another shot and Elite was denied.

United won, 4-2, and the celebrating began. An excellent game by both teams ended in Championship trophies for PV United. What a weekend for PV United.
