Peninsula Baseball Zeros In On Sea Kings
Varsity Baseball
• The visiting Panthers shutdown the Sea Kings to finish the season with a rivalry win.
For the first time in recent memory, the Peninsula Panthers and the Palos Verdes Sea Kings were not in the same baseball league this season, but that didn’t stop the teams from getting together for an end-of-season rivalry game on Tuesday, May 6.
This was also Senior Day for the Sea Kings, so the game was preceded by the traditional ceremony honoring PV seniors and their families for all their accomplishments and contributions to the program.
Then it was time to play ball!
Wyatt Malloy deservedly drew the start on the mound for the Sea Kings, capping off an outstanding senior season. Malloy was mixing pitches nicely and pounding the strike zone as he has all year, but some unfortunate errors by the PV defense allowed Sam Fujii, Aaron Monzon, and Mateo Carresi to get on base and circle the basepaths. When the dust settled on the top of the first inning, the Panthers had opened a 3-0 lead.
Charlie Molony was the Peninsula starting pitcher, and the Sea Kings threatened to quickly answer back with singles by Luke Bowen and Will Zane, but Molony got out of the inning without allowing any runs.
After a scoreless second inning, highlighted by PV catcher Cole Sipes throwing out a runner trying to steal, Peninsula threatened to break the game open in the top of the third inning. With two outs and runners on second and third base, Cooper Light hit a long blast into the left-center field gap, but Sea Kings left fielder Donovan Capozzola made a spectacular run-

ning catch for the third out to end the inning and keep the game in range for the Sea Kings.
However, the Sea Kings couldn’t get the bats going against Molony or Panthers reliever Brenden Jarrard, and after Light drove in an insurance run for Peninsula in the top of the seventh the Panthers had a 4-0 lead and that’s how it ended.
