uerto Portals se ha distinguido siempre por ser más que un puerto deportivo. Los restaurantes, boutiques y empresas náuticas, además de los espacios de ocio y los eventos que se celebran durante todo el año, han hecho y hacen de nuestro puerto un lugar privilegiado en Mallorca para pasar el día en familia, en pareja o con amigos, con una rica oferta a tan solo diez minutos en coche del centro de Palma. Pero más allá de todos estos atractivos, personalmente me satisface el hecho de que, quizás hoy con más fuerza que nunca, Puerto Portals sigue conservando la esencia de todo puerto de categoría mundial que se precie: ser sede de regatas de embarcaciones a vela. En este sentido y en combinación con nuestra apuesta por reforzar las actividades en el puerto durante los meses de invierno, este año 2019 empieza con fuerza con la celebración en enero de la II Dragon Winter Series y la III Copa del Mediterráneo, en el mes de febrero. Ambas competiciones atraen a nuestra marina cada vez más embarcaciones y regatistas llegados de todas partes del mundo. Muy relacionado a este deporte está nuestra dedicación a la recientemente mejorada Escuela de Vela Puerto Portals, que a partir del 5 de febrero volverá a acoger a colegios en horario escolar para hacer bautismos de vela y piragua, además de ofrecer actividades extraescolares de vela, piragua y paddle surf durante el día. Nuestro tradicional Christmas Market, elegido por el diario Die Welt como uno de los cinco mejores de Europa, así como la celebración del XV Rally Clásico Puerto Portals, son otras dos fantásticas propuestas para acercarse a Puerto Portals durante estos meses en los que, además, estamos aprovechando para realizar unas mejoras para que el Puerto sea un lugar más especial, cómodo y atractivo para todos. ¡Les esperamos!

uerto Portals has always distinguished itself by being more than a marina. The restaurants, boutiques and nautical companies, along with the recreation spaces and the events that are held throughout the year, have made and make our port a privileged place in Mallorca, where families, couples or groups of friends can spend the day, with a vast range of options just ten minutes by car from the centre of Palma. But aside from all of these attractions, I am personally deeply satisfied by the fact that today, perhaps more zealously than ever, Puerto Portals continues to conserve the essence of any selfrespecting world-class port: being a venue for top yachting regattas. In this regard, and in conjunction with our commitment to increasing activities in the port during the winter months, the year 2019 takes off strongly with the celebration in January of the II Dragon Winter Series and the III Copa del Mediterráneo, in the month of February. Both competitions bring an increasing number of vessels and sailors from all over the world to our marina. Another aspect that is closely linked to this sport is our dedication to the recentlyimproved Puerto Portals Sailing School, which will once again be welcoming schools during school time from 5th February, for initiations in sailing and canoeing and also to offer sailing, canoeing and paddle surfing as after-school activities during the day. Our traditional Christmas Market, named one of the five best in Europe by the newspaper Die Welt, and the hosting of the XV Rally Clásico Puerto Portals, are two more fantastic reasons to visit Puerto Portals during these months. Die Restaurants, Boutiquen und YachtUnternehmen sowie die Freizeitlokale und Events, die das ganze Jahr über hier stattfinden, prädestinieren unseren Hafen als einen bevorzugten Ort auf Mallorca. In Puerto Portals können Sie den Tag in Familie, mit Freunden oder ihren Liebsten verbringen und aus dem vielfältigen Freizeitangebot wählen. Der Hafen liegt nur zehn Fahrminuten vom Stadtzentrum Palma. Abgesehen von all diesen attraktiven Vorteilen, erfüllt mich eine Sache mit besonderer Zufriedenheit: Puerto Portals bewahrt, vielleicht mit mehr Willenskraft als je zuvor, das Wesen dessen, das jeden internationalen Hafen von Rang auszeichnen sollte: ein Austragungsort prestigeträchtiger Segelregatten zu sein. In diesem Kontext und im Rahmen unseres Engagements für die Verbesserung der Freizeitangebote im Hafen während der Wintermonate beginnt das Jahr 2019 sozusagen volle Fahrt voraus. Der Höhepunkt im Januar wird die II Dragon Winter Series sein. Im Februar findet in unserem Hafen der III Mittelmeer-Cup (Copa del Mediterráneo) statt. An beiden Regatten nehmen immer mehr Crews und Yachten aus allen Teilen der Welt teil und besuchen unsere Marina. In unmittelbarem Zusammenhang damit steht die kürzliche Modernisierung der Segelschule Puerto Portals. Ab 5. Februar ist die Segelschule während der Schulzeiten wieder für Schulklassen geöffnet, um Segel- und Kanutaufen zu veranstalten. Darüber hinaus gibt es Segel-, Kanu- und Paddle-Surf-Kurse zu allen Tagen zeiten. Unser traditioneller Christmas Market, der von der Tageszeitung Die Welt als einer der besten fünf in Europa geführt wird, sowie die XV Rally Clásico Puerto Portals sind zwei weitere großartige Events, die einen Besuch während der Nebensaison in Puerto Portals lohnen. In diesen Monaten nutzen wir auch die Gelegenheit, um Modernisierungsarbeiten im Hafen durchzuführen, damit Puerto Portals ein ganz besonderer, komfortabler und attraktiver Standort für alle ist. CHRISTMAS MARKET Del 20 de diciembre al 6 de enero Puerto Portals se llena de aromas, sabores y sensaciones navideñas con su tradicional Christmas Market, elegido como uno de los cinco mejores de Europa por el diario Die Welt. Además de sus coloridos puestos, cuenta con un gran número de actividades para toda la familia y una pista de patinaje. From 20th December to 6th January Puerto Portals will fill up with seasonal aromas, flavours and sensations with its traditional Christmas Market, selected as one of the best five in Europe by the newspaper Die Welt. As well as the colourful stalls, it has numerous activities for the whole family and a skating rink. Vom 20. Dezember bis zum 6. Januar ist Puerto Portals voller weihnachtlicher Düfte und Aromen. II DRAGON WINTER SERIES El fin de semana del 18 al 20 de enero de 2019 culminará una de las competiciones náuticas más espectaculares y esperadas por los aficionados a la vela, la Dragon Winter Series, una regata que Puerto Portals acoge por segundo año consecutivo y en la que los protagonistas son los barcos de la clase Dragon. The weekend of 18th – 20th January 2019 will see the culmination of one of the most spectacular sailing competitions, and one of the most eagerly-awaited by enthusiasts, the Dragon Winter Series, a regatta that Puerto Portals is hosting for the second consecutive year in which the stars are the boats from the Dragon class. III COPA DEL MEDITERRÁNEO Del 15 al 17 de febrero tendrá lugar en las aguas de Puerto Portals la tercera edición de la Copa del Mediterráneo. La última edición, celebrada el pasado mes de abril, consistió en siete emocionantes pruebas en las que participaron 23 embarcaciones de países como Alemania, Rusia, Dinamarca, Suecia o Portugal. From 15 th to 17 th February, the third Copa del Mediterráneo will be taking place in the waters of Puerto Portals. Last year’s Copa, held in April, consisted of seven exciting trials in which 23 vessels took part, from countries like Germany, Russia, Denmark, Sweden or Portugal. Vom 15. bis 17. Februar findet in den Gewässern um Puerto Portals die dritte Ausgabe des Mittelmeer-Cup statt. Im vergangenen Jahr wurde das Event im April abgehalten. Die 23 Yachten aus Deutschland, Russland, Dänemark, Schweden und Portugal mussten sich in sieben aufregenden Wettkämpfen miteinander messen.

XV RALLY CLÁSICO PUERTO PORTALS El XV Rally Clásico Puerto Portals celebrará del 7 al 9 de marzo de 2019 su decimoquinta edición. Se trata de un evento consolidado en la isla, que atrae cada año a un centenar de participantes de diferentes partes del mundo y a miles de aficionados del motor de toda Europa, con gran repercusión mediática internacional. The fifteenth Rally Clásico Puerto Portals will be held from 7th to 9th March 2019. This is a consolidated event on the island, which every year attracts hundreds of participants from different places around the world and thousands of motoring fans from all over Europe, with big repercussions in the international media. Die Rally Clásico Puerto Portals kommt vom 7. bis 9. März 2019 zum 15. Mal nach Puerto Portals. Die Rallye hat einen festen Platz in der Sport- und Kulturagenda der Insel; jedes Jahr nehmenn hunderte Fahrer aus allen Teilen der Welt an ihr teil, die von tausenden, aus Europa angereisten Motorsportfans angefeuert werden. or segunda vez en su historia, Puerto Portals acogerá del 25 al 29 de agosto de 2019 el Mundial de las 52 SUPER SERIES, ‘Rolex TP52 World Championship Puerto Portals 2019’. Como ya ocurriera en 2015, el puerto será la sede de la regata más importante de la temporada del que es considerado el mejor circuito de regatas del mundo. Una decena de veleros TP52 lucharán en aguas de la Bahía de Palma por el triunfo en la regata y por llevar durante todo un año la vitola de campeón del mundo. Quantum Racing defenderá el triunfo mundialista conseguido el año pasado en aguas de Cascáis. El velero norteamericano volverá a ser uno de los grandes favoritos al triunfo final en Puerto Portals. Pero no lo tendrá nada fácil porque se las tendrá que ver con barcos como el Azzurra. El velero argentino-italiano ya fue el vencedor del

En el tradicional Christmas Market se organizan cuentacuentos, teatro, actividades de baile, juegos y proyecciones de películas infantiles en el ciclo de Petit Cinema. Unas semanas antes, en el mes de noviembre, tiene lugar la festividad europea de Sankt Martin, un día en que el puerto se llena de niños que, farolillo en mano, salen en busca de San Martín a lomos de su caballo. La Escuela de Vela es otro espacio dedicado principalmente a los niños, quienes pueden apuntarse a clases de vela, kayak o paddle surf, practicando así un deporte al aire libre y conociendo nuevos amigos. En cuanto a los restaurantes, la gran mayoría cuentan con platos especiales para los más pequeños, para disfrutar junto a sus padres de una agradable comida o cena.

Im September wird im Hafen die SOS Animal Party gefeiert, eine Solidaritäts-Veranstaltung, bei der Kinder lernen, wie sie richtig mit Tieren umgehen. Darüber hinaus erfahren sie, wie wichtig es ist, einen Hund oder eine Katze zu adoptieren, statt sie zu kaufen. Auch die Segelschule ist hauptsächlich für Kinder und Jugendliche konzipiert, die hier Unterricht im Segeln, Kajakfahren und Paddlesurfen haben. So können sie sich an der frischen Luft aufhalten und neue Freunde kennenlernen. Auch in den Restaurants sind Kinder immer herzlich willkommen. Die meisten Lokale haben Kindergerichte auf der Karte, damit die Kleinen mit ihren Eltern ein leckeres Mittag- oder Abendessen genießen können.

Las obras se detendrán en mayo para no coincidir con la época de mayor afluencia de público. Una de las principales actuaciones ya está terminada. Se trata del refuerzo de la escollera, en la que se han empleado 6.000 toneladas de roca de cantera y tetrápodos para soportar mejor la batida del mar. Ahora llega el turno de la reestructuración y reubicación del varadero. Se está cambiando el foso de lugar para que pueda soportar embarcaciones de hasta 160 toneladas. Y se están construyendo nuevos testeros en los pantanales pequeños (3, 4, 5, 6), haciendo la forma de “T” con la que se consigue dar más abrigo a los barcos allí amarrados.

Die Arbeiten, die wie geplant vorangehen, werden im Mai, zur Hochsaison mit höherem Besucheraufkommen, eingestellt. Eines der wichtigsten Projekte, die Verstärkung der Wellenbrecher, ist bereits abgeschlossen. Insgesamt wurden 6.000 Tonnen Fels aus dem Steinbruch und Tetrapoden ausgebracht, um die Wellen besser abfangen zu können. Als nächster Schritt wird das Trockendock umstrukturiert und an einen anderen Standort verlegt. Derzeit wird die Reparaturgrube ausgetauscht, die künftig Yachten mit einem Gewicht bis zu 160 Tonnen aufnehmen soll. Außerdem ist man dabei, die Vorderseiten der kleineren Bootsstege 3 bis 6 in T-Form zu verstärken, um für die Yachten dieser Anlegeplätze besseren Schutz zu gewährleisten.

En cuanto al gran agujero que ya se está excavando y que ocupará el aparcamiento subterráneo de 200 plazas, se está empleando una máquina de Kronsa que nunca antes había pisado Baleares y que aplica las técnicas de hidrofresa y de muro pantalla. Estas obras suponen un gran reto debido a la dificultad que supone trabajar entre un talud y junto al mar. Sobre el aparcamiento se levantarán dos nuevos edificios cuya infraestructura y eficiencia energética estarán más acordes a las necesidades de estos tiempos. También en breve se va a remodelar la rampa y la explanada de la Escuela de Vela, finalizando así la reforma integral de la escuela, de la que ya se ha renovado completamente su edificio, y que está totalmente operativa. Y a partir de enero, en la zona del boulevard se mejorarán las infraestructuras colocando una instalación fija de electricidad, agua e Internet, que facilitará la celebración del Christmas Market, el Sunset Market y otros eventos del puerto. Antes de que llegue la primavera está prevista la construcción de dos nuevos locales con terraza sobre los edificios C2 y C3, que servirán para acoger nuevos restaurantes o ampliar los ya existentes. El acceso totalmente independiente será a través de escaleras y ascensores exteriores. La reforma de Puerto Portals, que llevan a cabo empresas mallorquinas e ingenieros y arquitectos de la isla, se realiza únicamente dentro de la dársena, sin afectar en ningún caso al entorno marino. Durante el desarrollo de las obras, el puerto continúa su actividad con absoluta normalidad.

Auf der Tiefgarage werden darüber hinaus zwei Neubauten errichtet, deren Infrastruktur und Energiebilanz eher modernen Anforderungen entspricht. In Kürze beginnt die Umgestaltung der Rampe und der Esplanade der Segelschule. Damit wird die Komplettrenovierung der Segelschule abgeschlossen, deren Gebäude bereits modernisiert ist und die ihren Betrieb wieder vollständig aufgenommen hat. Ab Januar wird die Infrastruktur an der Hafenpromenade mit fest installlierten Elektro-, Wasser- und Internetanschlüssen verbessert. Davon profitieren die Events, die im Hafen veranstaltet werden, u.a. Christmas Market und Sunset Market. Noch vor Frühlingsbeginn sollen auf den Gebäuden C2 und C3 zwei neue Lokale mit Terrasse entstehen, die entweder für neue Restaurants oder die Erweiterung bereits bestehender Gourmet-Tempel zur Verfügung stehen. Beide Lokale werden über einen separaten Zugang mit Treppen und Außenliften verfügen. Der Umbau von Puerto Portals wird von mallorquinischen Unternehmen, Ingenieuren und Architekten ausgeführt und betrifft nur die Hafenanlagen. In keinem Fall wird die Marina dadurch geschädigt. Während der Durchführung der Arbeiten hält der Hafen seine normale Geschäftstätigkeit vollständig aufrecht.

“Llevo seis temporadas seguidas como capitán de una embaración Sunseeker de 20 metros en Puerto Portals, aunque mi relación con la marina se remonta a hace mucho más tiempo. Creo que siempre ha sido el puerto de referencia del Mediterráneo. A mis jefes les encanta como base, aunque en verano nos movemos mucho y salimos a navegar fuera de la bahía de Palma. De todos los maravillosos eventos que se celebran, el Christmas Market es el que más me gusta. Mi mujer también tiene una escuela de baile en la zona y durante esos días sus alumnos actúan en el puerto”. ‘I have been captain of a 20-metre Sunseeker vessel in Puerto Portals for six consecutive seasons now, although my relationship with the marina goes back much further. I believe it has always been the flagship port of the Mediterranean. My employers love it as a base, although we move around a lot in summer and go outside of the bay of Palma to sail. Die Stiftung Joves Navegants (Junge Segler) vermittelt jungen Menschen mit schulischen Problemen durch den Wassersport wichtige Werte.

lejandro B. M. y Alejandro C. S. están muy emocionados. Llevan tres semanas aprendiendo rudimentos de náutica. Ya saben dónde está babor y dónde estribor, qué es una mesana o una génova. Ya son capaces de limpiar las escotillas de un barco, pueden hacer varios tipos de nudos náuticos y hoy van a bajar a la sala de máquinas a aprender varias tareas de mantenimiento de los motores. Alejandro y Alejandro tienen 15 años y forman parte del Programa Alter de la Dirección General de Atención al Menor para jóvenes con dificultades de adaptación al sistema escolar. De entre todos los posibles oficios que les han dado a elegir, han optado por la náutica, y por eso han sido derivados a la Fundació Joves Navegants para realizar un curso de formación. Joves Navegants fue fundada en 1992 por un grupo de profesionales del sector náutico que se dieron cuenta de que muchos jóvenes mallorquines carecían de

Sie können Luken säubern, verschiedene Knoten knüpfen und heute geht’s in den Maschinenraum, wo man ihnen einiges über Wartung von Motoren beibringt. Die beiden fünfzehnjährigen Alejandros nehmen am Programm Alter der Generaldirektion für die Betreuung Minderjähriger teil, das sich an junge Menschen richtet, die sich schwer an das Schulsystem anpassen können. Von allen Berufen, die man ihnen angeboten hat, haben sie sich für Nautik entschieden und machen nun im Rahmen der Stiftung Joves Navegants eine Ausbildung. Joves Navegants wurde 1992 von Wassersport-Profis gegründet, die etwas für junge Menschen tun wollen. Viele junge Mallorquiner hatten, obwohl sie auf einer Insel mitten im Meer lebten, keine Möglich-

oportunidades para experimentar la navegación y sus beneficios, a pesar de vivir en una isla y estar, por tanto, rodeados de mar. En 2003 recibieron en donación el velero Galaxie, una embarcación de 21 metros de eslora, 5 metros de manga, un calado de 3 metros y un desplazamiento de 30 toneladas en la que cada año se embarcan hasta 300 jóvenes procedentes de diversos programas para descubrir los beneficios de la navegación. La Fundación ayuda a estos jóvenes en riesgo a dar un rumbo a su vida a través del Sail Training o vela de formación. Reconocida a nivel mundial como una valiosa opción para desarrollar la autoestima y la confianza, esta propuesta formativa es muy útil para transmitir valores como el trabajo en equipo, la disciplina, el esfuerzo y el espíritu de superación. Navegando, los jóvenes aprenden a asumir responsabilidades, a darse cuenta de la importancia de cumplir con sus tareas, a respetar las jerarquías a bordo y a cuidar de sí mismos y de sus compañeros. “Al llevar a los jóvenes a la mar les situamos en un entorno natural implacable que proporciona una sensación de riesgo y aventura. The foundation helps these vulnerable young people to set the course of their life through ‘sail training’. Recognised globally as a valuable option for developing self-esteem and confidence, this training proposal is extremely useful for transmitting values such as teamwork, discipline, effort and a will to succeed. Sailing, the youngsters learn to assume responsibilities, to realise how important it is to complete their tasks, to respect the hierarchy on board and to take care of themselves and their coursemates. ‘By taking the young people out to sea we place them in an implacable natural environment that gives a sensation of risk and adventure. Sailing on the Galaxie requires great physical effort and calls for teamwork, which strengthens self-discipline, tolerance and empathy’, the foundation explains. Beim Segeln lernen die Jugendlichen, Verantwortung zu übernehmen, lernen, wie wichtig es ist, zugewiesene Aufgaben zu erfüllen, die Hierarchie an Bord zu respektieren und sich um andere und sich selbst zu kümmern. „Die Teilnehmer lernen in einer natürlichen Umgebung, die Risiken und Abenteuer birgt. Wer auf der Galaxie fährt, muss körperlich hart und im Team arbeiten. Das fördert Selbstdisziplin, Toleranz und Empathie“, erläutern die Stiftungsverantwortlichen. Durch das Segeltraining hat Junge Segler bereits rund 1.500 balearischen Jugendlichen mit Schulanpassungsproblemen oder drohender sozialer Ausgrenzung geholfen und ihnen ermöglicht, eine Branche kennenzulernen, die auf den Balearen gute Arbeitsmöglichkeiten bietet. Das Ergebnis dieser intensiven Arbeit war die besondere Erwähnung, die die Stiftung im Dezember 2018 im Timón-Preis erhielt, der von der Nautical Gazette organisiert und von Puerto Portals gesponsert wurde. The last pirate of the Caribbean was born in Mallorca and posed a threat to the Spanish and the English in Cuban waters. Der letzte Pîrat der Karibik wurde auf Mallorca geboren. Er hielt Spanier und Briten in Kubas Gewässern in Schach.

osé Rives (o Ribes, no se sabe a ciencia cierta) nació en Mallorca en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Como muchos de sus coetáneos, cuando tuvo edad suficiente decidió embarcarse para hacer fortuna en Cuba, que en aquella época era colonia española. Se instaló cerca de la Habana, en Batabanó, el puerto pesquero más importante del sur del Cuba. Por allí transitaban los barcos españoles e ingleses en sus viajes de ida y vuelta a sus colonias americanas. Cerca de allí, dominando el Golfo de Batabanó, se encuentra la Isla de Pinos, la segunda mayor del archipiélago cubano. Allí fue donde José, a quien todo el mundo llamaba por su diminutivo, Pepe, instaló su cuartel general cuando decidió dedicarse a la piratería, ya que era tierra de nadie y escapaba a la autoridad colonial española. Pero, sobre todo, su ubicación estratégica le permitía controlar las aguas del sur de Cuba y todo el tráfico marítimo de la zona. Pronto se hizo con una goleta a la que bautizó como ‘La Barca’, y la dotó de un cañón y una tripulación de 40 hombres reclutados entre los pescadores de Batabanó, junto a los cuales se convirtió en el terror de las naves espa-

osé Rives (or Ribes, the exact spelling is not known) was born in Mallorca in the second half of the 18 th century. Like many of his contemporaries, as soon as he was old enough he decided to set sail to Cuba to make his fortune, and island that was a Spanish colony at the time. He settled close to Havana, in Batabanó, the most important fishing port in the south of Cuba. Spanish and English vessels passed through there on their trips to and from their American colonies. Near here, dominating the Gulf of Batabanó, is the Isle of Pines (Isla de la Juventud), the second largest in the Cuban archipelago. And there it was that José, whom everybody knew by his diminutive, Pepe, set up his general headquarters when he decided to devote himself to piracy, as it was a no man’s land and eluded the Spanish colonial authority. But most of all, its strategic location allowed him to control the waters of southern Cuba and all of the sea traffic in the area. He soon got hold of a schooner which he named ‘La Barca’, and equipped it with a cannon and a crew of 40 men recruited from amongst the fishermen of Batabanó, and with them he became PUERTO 30 PORTALS

Er ließ sich in der Nähe von La Habana nieder, in Batabanó, dem wichtigsten Hafen im Süden der Insel. Dort fuhren spanische und britische Schiffe auf ihren Reisen von und zu ihren amerikanischen Kolonien entlang. In unmittelbarer Nähe befindet sich, mitten im Golf von Batabanó, die zweitgrößte Insel des kubanischen Archipels: die Pinieninsel (Isla de los Pinos). Dorthin verlegte José, den alle bei seinem Spitznamen „Pepe“ nannten, sein Hauptquartier, um sich fortan als Seeräuber zu betätigen; die Insel war damals Niemandsland und so war er außer Reichweite der spanischen Behörden. Strategisch war das Eiland ein perfekter Standort, von hier aus konnte Pepe die Gewässer und den Schiffsverkehr im Süden Kubas überwachen. Kurze Zeit später erbeutete er einen Schoner, die ‘La Barca’, die über eine Kanone und 40 Mann Besatzung (rekrutiert unter den Fischern Batabanos) ver-

Al mismo tiempo, Pepe consiguió el favor y el aprecio de los habitantes de la Isla de Pinos, ya que su presencia ahuyentaba a los corsarios y piratas provenientes de las colonias inglesas de Islas Caimán y Jamaica, que tradicionalmente habían atacado la isla, garantizando seguridad y libertad de movimientos a las embarcaciones isleñas. Así, cada vez que ‘El Mallorquín’ regresaba, siempre victorioso, de sus tropelías, era recibido con júbilo y honores como ‘Protector de la Isla de Pinos’. Las autoridades inglesas, hartas de los continuos ataques a sus barcos, decidieron poner fin al asunto movilizando a una parte de la que era la armada más poderosa del mundo. En varias ocasiones, la astucia de ‘El Mallorquín’ consiguió vencer al poderío naval británico, hasta que finalmente Pepe cayó, su flotilla fue hundida y sus hombres abatidos. Durante la última batalla, Pepe ‘El Mallorquín’ disparó tantas veces que su trabuco le estalló en las manos y perdió una de ellas. Ello no le impidió escapar, vendándose él mismo su muñón, para llegar hasta su casa en Isla de Pinos, donde murió en brazos de su mujer. Con él murió el último pirata del Caribe, y quedó atrás un mundo que ha servido de inspiración para numerosas historias, novelas y películas de aventuras.

At the same time Pepe won the favour and appreciation of the inhabitants of the Isle of Pines, as his presence drove away the privateers and pirates from the English colonies of the Cayman Islands and Jamaica who had traditionally attacked the island, guaranteeing safety and freedom of movement for the island’s boats. So every time ‘El Mallorquín’ returned – always victorious – from his atrocities, he was received with jubilation and honours as the ‘protector of the Isle of Pines’. Tired of the continuous attacks on their vessels, the English authorities decided to put an end to the matter by mobilising part of what was the most powerful navy in the world at the time. On several occasions, the ingenuity of ‘El Mallorquín’ managed to beat the British naval might, until Pepe finally fell to them, and his flotilla was sunk and his men taken down. During the final battle, Pepe ‘El Mallorquín’ fired his blunderbuss so many times that it exploded in his hands and he lost one of them. This did not prevent him from escaping, having bandaged his wrist himself, to his house on the Isle of Pines, where he died in the arms of his wife. The last pirate of the Caribbean had died, and a world that served as the inspiration for numerous adventure stories, novels and films was lost. PUERTO 31 PORTALS

Die britische Krone war „not amused“ über die ständigen Überfälle auf ihre Flotte und so entsandte die mächtigste Armada der Welt Truppen Richtung Kuba. Bei einigen Scharmützeln konnte Pepes Cleverness die britische Übermacht besiegen, doch letztendlich unterlag „Der Mallorquiner“. Seine Schiffe wurden versenkt, seine Mannschaften getötet. In der letzten Schlacht verschoss Pepe derart viel Munition, dass ihm sein Stutzen in den Händen explodierte und er eine Hand verlor. Das hinderte ihn jedoch nicht daran, sich den Armstumpf zu verbinden und in sein Haus auf Pinos zu flüchten, wo er in den Armen seiner Frau verstarb. So ging der letzte Pirat der Karibik dahin und mit ihm eine Welt, die zahlreichen Geschichten, Romanen und Abenteuerfilmen als Inspirationsquelle gedient hatte.

Los antiguos incas le atribuían un carácter sagrado, con leyendas que situaban en sus aguas el origen de esta civilización. Cuenta con varias islas, algunas de ellas habitadas por indígenas y en las que puede pernoctarse para disfrutar de su exuberante naturaleza y de los restos arquitectónicos incas que se conservan. Los antiguos pobladores del lago construían además islas artificiales usando como materia prima la totora, un tipo de junco autóctono. Aún hoy en día se construyen este tipo de islas, llamadas uros, para que los turistas las visiten. MORAINE (CANADÁ): En el Parque Nacional Banff y a una altitud de unos 1.884 metros sobre el nivel del mar encontramos uno de los lagos de montaña más encantadores del mundo. Situado en el valle de los Diez Picos, y por tanto rodeado de majestuosas cumbres, destaca por el color turquesa de sus aguas, debido a la refracción de la luz por el polvo de roca proveniente de las montañas cercanas. Sus aguas son producto del deshielo de un glaciar. Solo se puede visitar en verano, ya que en invierno la nieve impide el acceso.

It has several islands, some of which are inhabited by indigenous peoples and where one can stay overnight to enjoy the exuberant nature and Inca archaeological remains that are conserved there. The ancient settlers of the lake also built artificial islands, using the totora, a type of indigenous bulrush. MORAINE (CANADA): In the Banff National Park, at an altitude of around 1,884 metres above sea level, we find one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the world. Located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, and therefore surrounded by majestic mountaintops, it is remarkable for the turquoise colour of its water, caused by the refraction of the light by the rock dust from the nearby mountains. No en vano, Inca es conocida como “la capital del cuero” o “la ciudad de la piel”. Se tiene constancia de la existencia de gremios de zapateros en esta localidad desde el siglo XV, y se sabe que ya en el XIV eran apreciadas sus manufacturas de piel. Sin embargo, la industria del calzado como tal arrancó en el siglo XIX, impulsada por empresas familiares con gran arraigo histórico. La llegada del ferrocarril a mediados del XIX supuso un punto de inflexión, ya que permitió a los talleres y fábricas artesanales transportar sus productos para la exportación, al principio nacional y más adelante internacional.

No wonder then that Inca is known as the ‘leather capital’, or ‘leather city’. There are records of the existence of cobblers’ guilds in this town from the 15th century on, and we know that its leather goods were already highly prized by the 14th century. However, the footwear industry as such really took off in the 19th century, driven by family companies with deep historical roots. The arrival of the railway in the mid19th century was a watershed, as it allowed the artisanal factories and workshops to transport their products for export, first within Spain and later internationally. Queda para la historia el legado de legendarios maestros artesanos como Antoni Fluxà, fundador en 1877 de un taller de zapatería en Inca, cuyos descendientes se mantienen bajo la marca Lottusse. El legado del mestre Fluxà también irradia a la marca Camper, fundada en 1975 por su nieto, Lorenzo Fluxà. O Matías Pujadas, quien abrió un taller en 1866 y cuyo legado fue recogido por José Albaladejo, fundador de Yanko y posteriormente de Carmina Shoemakers, cuya producción es completamente local y artesanal.

The heritage of the mestre Fluxà also irradiates to the Camper brand, established in 1975 by his grandson Lorenzo Fluxà. Hygge is all that and much more. It is any small thing that makes us feel at home and connects us with ourselves. Sometimes translated as ‘cosiness’, hygge is a Danish expression that evokes the little everyday things that make us happy. And that is no trivial matter, bearing in mind that Denmark is the country with the happiest inhabitants in the world, according to the list drawn up every year by the UN in its World Happiness Report. Así lo explica Meik Wiking, director del Instituto para la Búsqueda de la Felicidad de Copenhague, en su bestseller Hygge, la felicidad de las pequeñas cosas, un libro que ha puesto de moda alrededor del mundo esta palabra danesa. Al provenir de Dinamarca, donde el clima es muy frío, abunda la madera y se pasa mucho tiempo en casa, se ha relacionado lo hygge con el invierno y los planes domésticos, pero esta filosofía se adapta a cualquier clima, circunstancia y preferencia personal.
