AN ITINERANT NURSE
Matt: So Samy, you live on the island of Cyprus. It’s a place I would love to go. What is your heritage? Were you born there?
Samy: I was born in Malaysia and am a Malaysian Indian. Then, in 1972, I travelled to the UK for my nurse training. During that time, I met a wonderful man, Brian Wilson, and we married.
Matt: Where did you travel to from the UK?
Samy: I went to work in Canada and the Northwest Territories. I worked amongst the Nunavut, the First Nations people, in community health nursing, dealing with day-to-day community needs and emergency care.
Matt: So, how did you end up in Cyrpus?
Samy: Canada is very cold, so we decided to retire somewhere warmer. We had always wanted a plot of land in Cyrpus, so we retired there.
Matt: What did the thought of writing a book first cross your mind?
Samy: When the pandemic started, I was 70 years old, and we decided we had had enough of travelling, so when we retired to Cyprus. Wondering what to do, I looked at the diaries I had written all my life and wondered how to turn it into a story. That is when I came across PublishU.
Matt: What about the ‘Writing My Book’ course that helped you, Samy?
Samy: It was the way that the entire course was set up. You gave us the guidelines about how we should structure the whole book. Previously, I was writing, but it wasn’t structured. You enabled me to write a book that could be published.
Matt: How wonderful! Looking back on the whole journey of writing, publishing, and launching your book, what would you say is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome?
Samy: I suppose I doubted whether my book would get published. So, I had to overcome that self-doubt. You reassured me from the beginning that my book would be published, and you were right.
Matt: So you know you must have an appropriate sense of pride on the inside?
Samy: Yes. I am proud, and so is my husband Brian. He helped me immensely because we travelled together to Canada and the Northern Territories. He recalled some things that I might have otherwise forgotten. Now the book has been published, we are so excited.
Matt: In what ways do you think your book will inspire people?
Samy: An Itinerant Nurse will inspire anyone visiting northern Canada - the Northern Lights are incredible, as is the wildlife such as polar bears. I also want to encourage a nurse to consider a part of their career overseas as I did, which was amazing.
Matt: Thank you for sharing some of your adventures with us, Samy; we will go and read the book now to find out more.

EVERYONE HAS A BOOK IN THEM
Do you have a story or a message that you are passionate about communicating?
One of the single most powerful ways you can do that is by writing a book.
You may feel that what you want to write about has been written beforetrust me it has not. You have a unique upbringing, family, education, work and life experiences which gives you a unique voice much like the uniqueness of your finger print.
Who will read your book? Many of the people you know will buy and read your book because someone they know has become a globally published author. Beyond the people who know you is a world of people who can be inspired about your book.
So is there something you feel is holding you back from writing your book? Maybe a negative voice that says, ‘I’m not good enough’, ‘I’m not sure’, ‘I’m too busy’, ‘I’m not ready’ or ‘I can’t afford it’. It’s time to put these selflimiting believes on mute and declare, ‘Yes, I Can’.
A recent graduate said, “I never thought I would write a book, let alone in 100-days. Now I’m asking what else have I told myself I cannot do that I actually can.”
Another graduate said, “My children have seen me write and publish a book and are now growing up fully expecting to become published authors too!”
