A woman who is culturally depicted as fragile, represents our natural tendency to break down and become vulnerable. How ever, the dark red in contrast with the pitch-black background shows how we dress ourselves with intense passion to meet our desires despite the black daunting failures that lie just beyond our path.

Everything we desire, no matter how gigantic or miniscule they seem, are all valid. They reflect who we are and they should nev er change just because we are fazed by life’s challenges. We just need to revisit those desires that once set us ablaze, rekindle them and take the beginning steps to turn them into reality.

One of the necessities that I need in travelling or simply staying at home is an earphone. It goes to show that I love music, and so do you, right? As a student, we use music to have fun, to relax and to even escape reality.

Another straight to the heart and bones kind of music. This song from Callalily is all about how a lover was so broken hearted and close in begging someone to go back to him. I recommend Callalily if you want to feel that Sunday-raining senti mood.

This 8 songs are my travel buddies, relaxation playlist or even the songs that I play randomly. Here we go.

Every time I hear this song, I just can’t stop myself from banging my head and sing along. This song from Parokya ni Edgar brings that classic vibe and I must say that until now, this song is still one of the best and can still scrap new OPM songs.

Sharing your playlist with someone is both risky and feels good at the same time. People say that the music you listen to somehow reflects who you are and I couldn’t agree more. This music and songs that you listen to tells your story, thoughts, and views in life.

This song from the Eraserheads really took my heart. The slow rhythm and the meaning of the song is just perfect for a morning coffee. It is about two lovers, that grew old together and how she teaches him how to love but ending up separated.

This song from Itchyworms is really perfect if you’re in love. The line “Ayokong tumanda kung hindi ka kasama” which means that “I don’t wanna grow old if you are not with me” just shows how beautiful being in love is.

Are you in love? Or just got your heart broken? Well, this song is for you. This another Eraserheads hit still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. And if you look closely to its lyrics, it is saying that love con quers all. My favorite line is the “You’ll get by with a smile, You can’t win at everything but you can try.” It shows that when loving someone, you will feel different kinds of emotions like pain, happiness, greed, selfish ness, and peace the important thing is how you make yourself in loving someone.

Are you a victim of ghosting? Kisapmata by Rivermaya just sums up what you feel! It tells a story of how love that is so perfect was gone by a hair.

Art in its own aspect has followed humanity through its times and the world of fashion has also been synonymous to it. Prior to the 23rd Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers Pre-professional Group (PSABE-PPG)

Annual Luzon Convention 2019, Canlas, a 2nd year BSABE student, is one of the PSAU’s most prominent figures in fash ion, possessing a whimsical nature and unstoppable imagina tion. Given his characteristics, it seemed only fitting that he partnered with the PSABE-PPG PSAU Chapter and friends, the very inspiration behind his dedication to create the gown of PSAU’s representative in the Search for Ms. PSABE-PPG Luzon 1019, Ms. Lovely R. Castro. This gown showcased a creativity using only dried culm leaves and ilib which was painted by Canlas himself and was initially designed by Archie Datu and due to circumstances was then redesigned by Canlas, designing it based on the criteria and the availability of the in digenous materials that must be used. Ms. Castro, wearing this creative and effortful gown designed by Canlas, was named the Best in Indigenous Costume and ultimately won the title of being the Queen of the PSABE-PPG Luzon 2019.

Born in the Angeles City and growing up in Porac, Pampanga, Leonardo Canlas has been intrigued by fashion since a very young age; fascinated with colours, sparkles, and textures since childhood. He carried that passion with him throughout his life and ultimately graduated dressmaking and drafting in Senior High School. Canlas’ long-term mission is to empower others through his designs, all while letting his personal interests shine through each piece. He actually wishes to feature his works in a runway in the future, letting those who have the talent and love for art and fashion be inspired and motivated to continue striving hard to live their dreams.

Fashion is a way of self-expression that allows people to try on numerous roles in life, just as how Ms. Lovely Castro once became a queen in her life. Whether you prefer hip-hop or Chanelchic, fashion accommodates the chameleon in all of us. It is a means of celebrating the diversity and variety of the world in which we live. Fashion is about change which is essential to keep life in teresting. It is as well a mirror of sorts in society. It is a method of measuring a mood that can be helpful in numerous aspects—culturally, socially, even psychologically. At the same time, fashion shouldn’t be taken too seriously or you lose the fun of it. And as quoted from Canlas’ words, “Continue to do your best in everything you do, create your winning piece and never expect something as expectations can really be hurtful sometimes and winning without expecting is way more better than an expected win.”

Then and now, art and fashion are both part of our culture. Art can be thought; it can be written. Fashion is art; it is wearable. Therefore, what can be written, can be worn. We wear culture—the gap that is filled with art and fashion.

For instance, Canlas has drawn inspiration from a number of renowned art forms and artists, such as Project Runway, Rupuals drag race, Asia’s Next Top Model, and even from a Filipino de signer Michael Cinco.

Evidently, the connection between fashion and art runs deeper than some may realize, and their relationship will not be dissipating any time soon. After all, in today’s fast-paced digital world, it is imperative that brands achieve and maintain relevance. Therefore, more and more brands are gaining inspiration from and collaborating with other artists to keep their lines fresh, trendy, and at the forefront of the public’s mind. But the artist can be the creator too, just like Leonardo Sam pang Canlas of PSAU.

Create your winning piece and never expect something as expectations can really be hurtful sometimes and winning without expecting is way more better than an expected win

Guiao na pinamagatang Avifauna of the Northwestern Slope Of Mt.

Arayat.

Putting earnest effort on shaping the economy with knowledge as its main capital does not suggest that it is only particular to learning and nothing else. In fact, its principle is driven on how can these learnings be applied in improving the economic activities that are already existing in the archipelago and get the most of out of their advantages.

hroughout the decades, the Philippines has always been persistent in facilitat ing trade, manufacture, capital and con sumption which had the country enframed in the constant belief of the obsolete, and the now failing basis of economy. It is a global challenge for the Filipinos to free themselves from this trap and consider the investment on knowl edge rather than revenue as the most effective way out.In an era when intellectual development is a foundation for growth and progress, pro moting knowledge-based economy strongly conforms on the current demand for sustain ability, and not just for temporary financial upsurge.Knowledge-based economy urges the country to focus on educating and training its people for them to be equipped with the essen tial information and skills in facing the emerg ing demands of the advanced technological revolution. Everything in the world right now is upgrading and there is certainly a need for the nation to catch up. The changing structure of globalization calls for a more equitable soci ety and what hinders the Philippines to obtain this, is the general public’s misconception on the concept of adaptation.

Living in the 21st century is more than just gaining huge profits, it is all about the eye for long term amelioration. What the Philip pines needs right now is not an instant result, but rather a lasting solution that will gradually eliminate economic crisis, or the best upshot of completely ending it.

Upon being aware on the global reality that the Phil ippines should inculcate competencies that will fit in to the needs of the fast-changing en vironment, Filipino students should be men tored not only with the information that are written on textbooks and other learning ma terials, they should also be flourished with the proficiencies that will heighten their qualities as members of the society.

Another is that the public views intellec tual based economy as a highly discriminative propaganda, but in reality, it provides equal opportunities for the people who are willing to cultivate their learnings and enrich their capabilities. This type of economy emphasizes the significance of both educational and occu pational skills to further let the Filipinos and the people around the world contribute to the welfare of their society.

The Philippines can only achieve these by immense investment in learning. The en hancement of basic education through the implementation of the K-12 curriculum is one pace forward, and the enactement of the Uni versal Access to Quality Tertiary education is another. If the government continues to create such programs that will enhance the educa tion system in the Philippines, the country will surely feel the progress moving, one step at a time.

Discovering new concepts and informa tion that can be applied in raising the standard of living is one of the objectives to be achieved in the process of establishing knowledge based economy. Hence, it is reasonable to further prioritize the funding for research institutions to accommodate the growing demand for rev olutionary breakthroughs and foundation of worthwhile ideas.

One prevailing fallacy that should be corrected is that, knowledge based economy will only steal the country’s focus on the ag ricultural sector in which the Philippines has been reknowned for a very long time. Objec tively, it does not promote technology over agriculture, but relatively encourages the in tegration of technological advancement and scientific innovations to effectively improve the country’s agriculture through deliberate researches and experimentations.

It is true that we need to preserve our roots, and always look back to what reflects our identity as a country, but that does not mean that we should not welcome the changes that can possibly navigate us to a raised econom ic stability where sustainable development is within everyone’s reach.

Knowledge as a basis for economic growth requires Filipino learners, especially those on the higher levels, to have adaptive and creative thinking to contribute to the eradica tion of the society’s prevailing issues. Everyone is expected to be a leader and effectively handle changes to put it in a right direction.

Development, in whatever an gle we want to view it, does not give us consent to leave those who cannot get along. Hence it is time that those that are ahead, step back in slow pace to see the condition of those at the bot tom of the society.

A call for de development has to start – de develop the rich and develop the poor. It is due time that the Proletarian and the Bourgeoisie meet the center and live in a harmo nious manner. To be honest, it seems impossible for it to effectuate but it is truly doable. Start by toppling down the factories that are economically relevant yet puffs the most toxic gas ses and depletes the atmosphere. THE REAL FACE DEVELOPMENTOF

uman civilization has come a long way. It is continuous ly progressing and man has found his way to monitor his devel opment. Numbers and statistics in particular determined who will write history. Globalization they say, to in satiably look for means in order to get along with the fast trend. Because of this, we are hauled towards modifying our existing policies in fear of getting left behind. We relentlessly damage the forest and its natural resources to harness them for profit, we built the tallest buildings meanwhile driving away the people who holds the rarest culture; there are a lot to mention and this column wouldn’t be enough to enumerate them.

Are infrastructures and money the sole basis of development to uplift the life of the mass? Because it is what we are currently facing right now. In the end, we have to remember, why are we really pushing for develop ment? Because what is happening is truly alarming, we plan without con templating and considering the mass’s happiness. Cliché as it sounds, “hindi mabibili ng pera ang kasiyahan ng tao”.

We have flourishing economic status yet, is it parallel to the way we want to live? Aristotle tells us that for every action we do, it has to be geared towards eudaimonia – the end goal is happiness. Happiness is purely sub jective and thus cannot be universally define. We longed for development in order to achieve happiness, that is, but are we really happy for what we have right now?Thetwo-faced coin of develop ment led the greedy to yearn for more meanwhile oppressing those who wants to settle with a satisfying and simple life. The corrupt is indulged with its own definition of happiness while the latter is voiceless and com pelled to conform. But that’s not the only case, we also have those at the middle of the spectrum - those that are in favor and those that resist de velopment.

PAGES WE SHOULD NOT TEAR

We can never be children once again, but we can remain as one in our hearts. These are the chapters of our life we should keep, the pages we should not torn. Because in order to survive this uncertain world, we must live with a grownup’s head and a child’s heart.

Translucence:

was waiting for my eight peso change, when suddenly, a child behind me stepped on the po dium, tip-toed so he’ll manage to see the vendor’s face. I can’t help but overhear the conversation.

“Ate, pabili po nito,” as he pointed for a container filled with candies, his other hand gripping on his twenty peso bill. Another child appeared and said, “Huwag ‘yan! Sasakit ngip in natin ‘pag kumain tayo ng candy! ‘Yung Marshmallow nalang!” “Ayoko ng marshmallow! Mamamatay tayo sa marshmallow. Frosty nalang nga,”

Whereas children never make false accusation because they never make accusation in the first place. We look at people, we see something that we may twist into what they are not and were not intended to be. But when children look at people, they just see... people. They do not define people which keeps them from mak ing accusation.Everyone of us knew that time is not something you can turn back, we can no longer transform ourselves back into our childhood. We’re no lon ger children who had fewer responsi bilities. We’re no longer children who end up doing the things we want to do most of the time. As we grew older, we encounter bigger responsibilities, as well as bigger reasons to feel happy or sad. And then, we’ll begin to rec ognize what we’ve lost after our eyes were opened to see the reality of life. We’ve lost the innocence and purity that we once had.

To survive this uncertain world, we must live with a grownup’s head and a child’s heart.

My way back home was filled with giggles and smiles as I remember the conversation I overheard from the sari-sari store. Their exchange was pure and its filled with innocence. Honestly, I was tempted to interrupt their conversation, I want to tell the kids that it’s okay to eat candies as long as it’s not too much, or eating marshmallow won’t kill them.

I want them to continue believ ing things like the water is blue, the sun turns into moon at night, and the stars follow us wherever we go. I want them to live their life as children to the fullest. Worrying over why is the banana yellow, the apples red, or the leaves green. Crying over simple things yet will laugh like crazy at sim ple things

Children are the epitome of pu rity, they are naive and pretty gullible as well but on the other hand shows the complete trust they possess that we seemed to not have. Because we are in a world full of doubt and suspi cion. Where self-reliance keeps us on acquiring bond out of complete trust, which is one of the strongest human bonds we can Anotheracquire.things that keeps us into acquiring strong human bonds is that we tend to make false accusa tions. We see a person with tattoos, we assume that he is not a good type of person. We see a man and a woman together, we assume that they are in a relationship, we see someone unem ployed, we assume that they are lazy.

But I didn’t.

Life is not a movie that can be paused, rewind, or flash forward. It goes on and on and on... Continuous in a line with an endpoint. With that, we can never be children anymore, though sometimes, people should try to act like children too. We should never lose our childlike heart. Be cause children can find happiness just through their favorite snacks, while we find ours through achieve

ments and success, they’re just scared of ghost stories and clowns, while we fear failures and judgments, and they cry at the sight of dentists while we perceive crying as a sign of weakness.

after the chapter of rainbows and chocolates, we will be gin to face the reality. Where water is no longer blue but a transparent liquid. Where stars do not follow us anymore, and it’s just the Earth itself that moves around the sun. Where we worry over bigger things, and we only find happiness in bigger things, too.

Becausetoo.

One day, as I entered the Sinu kuan Gazette office, I’ve noticed that it was a place for the extra-ordinary human being whose thought and pen were honed to tell and publish the truth. And as I entered the course of Development Communication it brought me to other dimension and when I start writing my piece for an Editorial Competition anchoring the topic of Cold Case of a Journalist it gave me chills and goosebumps. Out of curiosity, I searched and peeked my attention to the monitor. For a moment, I was speechless, I was com pletely shocked to what I saw and read – it wasI’mterrifying.actually looking at the hor rifying close-up photos of the brutally killed victims of the Ampatuan Mas sacre. The bodies were violently shot on the skull and genital. Some were molested and half-naked with the others tied up, with their hands be hind their backs and their faces and body covered with dirt and blood. They looked like trash done by a ruth less demonic monster.

At that very moment, I can hear the human beings cry for help and grieve from extreme agony and in tense fear. You can see in their faces the horror of great pain of the struggle they’ve been through. They were all dead – unarmed political supporters, passerby, children, women and worst are JOURNALIST who were in line of duty. Human’s blood flooded the ground. At the end of the day, it will be written in the Philippine history that Ampatuan Massacre and other media related killings and harassment re flected the entire administration for a decade of regime. But once the story starts to fade from the headlines, the case will cover itself into the dust. As we discover the sanctuary of these devils, let us not let them escape and bury every atrocity back to the ground until the justice for humanity is served.

The same feeling when I end this article and as it draws perspec tive, we must continue the battle of honing our pens and lead the people to the path of truth. I may have a bro ken wing but the truth will never stop to speak as well as the truth that gives a voice to the voiceless.

With these, the Department of Health (DOH) is making a move with the enactment of the Sexuality Educa tion in the Department of Education (DepEd) that, as they have said, will help in reducing the cases of teenage pregnancy in the country.

A lot of teens are not a prod uct of a Curriculum that has a Sexu ality Education but they are neither pregnant nor engaging in sexual ac tivities. Indeed, everything will de pend with you. It is only a practice of self-discipline as well as appropriate counseling with the parents for you not to practice such kind of things like Pre-marital Sex. Besides, respecting the value of marriage, respecting your parents and respecting yourself will be enough to prevent you in getting deeper in this very sensitive issue.

I don’t think that a sepa rate subject such as the Sexuality Ed ucation is the answer to this call. This is too much. Because you can already have a glimpse about sexuality in dif ferent subjects just Health and Sci ence—and the rest must come from the house. Moreover, a well-guided and disciplined child will not engage in things that only married couples will do. Also, parents are reliable and re sponsible with their child for the ideas about Sexuality and proper supervi sion must start from them.

And growing up, the teach ings of the mother and father must continue in terms of Sexuality. A daughter must know menstruation from her mother, what to do, and what might happen to a woman after menstruation. Same goes with a son knowing about ejaculation from his father, and about condoms and con traceptives.Mostly, those who are jump ing into pre-marital sex are those who lack knowledge about it. According to the Plan International Report, girls who have received minimal education are 5 times more likely to become a mother than those with higher levels of education. But

In fact, the Save the Chil dren’s Global Childhood report in 2019 states that the Philippines is the number two in terms of the percent age of Teenage Pregnancy in South east Asia. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) also alleged that the estimated number of child that is a product of a young woman aging from 15-19 is 538. These percentages exclude those victims of rape and vic tims of molestation.Withthese tallies and per centages, it is crystal clear that the so cial phenomenon Teenage Pregnancy is indeed a big problem in our coun try. But, why is it that the DepEd is adjusting to these problems? Is it not right to say that the knowledge of a young individual must start inside ev ery house specially this very sensitive issue about sex?

The proposed Sexuality Ed ucation will start at the 4th and 5th grade in Elementary Education ac cording to Doctor Eric Tayag, DOH Director of Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service. In fact, the knowledge of a child about something as sensitive as this must start at an even early age inside the house.

It is only right that at such young age a mother must teach her child about vagina as well as a father teaching his son about a penis be cause with the presence of a parent, the child will be guided accordingly. Not just at school, because the teacher cannot obviously teach everything to the 40-50 children o pupils inside a public school. In addition, the teach ers who will teach these lessons may not be feasible enough because he/she may not answer questions raised by the pupils. For example, the child will ask “why is that picture of a vagina and a penis have hair and mine does not?” Questions like this will only raise “laughs” inside the classroom and some will not even ask because of them being ashamed of things like this. Also, the Sex Ed will not fully guide the pupils, but it will somehow open their minds and even feed their

Yet, whether we admit it or not, frankly speaking, a huge percentage of us, practice continuous disobedience in com mon etiquettes such as in escalators, pe destrian lanes, and littering, spitting, uri nating, and smoking almost everywhere.

On a day-to-day basis, observe how many of us throw our garbage anywhere and not in proper trash bins, see how reck less driving is clearly rampant along our roads, notice how hardheaded we are by risking our lives in the middle of a vehicu lar route instead of taking the overpass or the pedestrian, and even sight a govern ment office itself to see people who refuse to line up properly.

These might not be difficult to carry our but the problems is, we already have implanted in our minds that a single faulty deed won’t make a bigger impact without realizing that once we combine all of our collective wrong doings, a greater havoc could happen.Whilethese habits turned into a culture are still in our grip, we cannot ex pect progress as highlighted by Leen Kuan Yew, founder of the almost holistically-de veloped nation of Singapore. In this sense, democracy isn’t the problem but the kind of democracy that runs and ruins the country at the same time. We were once the flagbearer of democracy in Southeast Asia but this has been fainted through the decades and now, we are raising a “dubi ous” democracy.Berealistic. Similar to other na tion-states that have thriving economies, our government must elevate the weight of punishment or starts implementing policies to make the Philippines a real-fine country as a means of promoting discipline to our citizens. Discipline is something that we Filipinos lack and other countries have over us. But, we shall start fostering discipline at home with the support of the parents and the family.

It’s not too late but it is not easy though. A perceived and the most realistic solution is an iron fist.

Why did I say so?

We are law-abiding individuals outside the Philippines but often forget or rather intentionally neglect discipline in our country because of the concept of freedom and democracy embedded in our context that have gone too far. We have ex ceeded the limitations and we have lost the essence of those two concepts, as we mis used them through the decades.

In general, we don’t follow simple guidelines even it does not cost us any. We lost the right track. We are out on our way.

Procrastination can also help free up time for tasks and events. If an assignment is due weeks from now, it makes sense to prioritize something that needs to be done in the near fu ture to be better off. There could be one of those lucky and shiny moments when the assignment is extended. Then the time spent on finishing it well in advance could be better spent doing something more enjoyable.

Though the realization leads to quite a bit of panic and dread, I sud denly sense the urgency to fulfill a previously prolonged responsibility. That is when I end up giving the task my best shot. Time constraints and looming deadlines are certainly a ma jor source of motivation. According to the American Psychological Asso ciation, between 80 and 95 percent of college students procrastinate their homework. It is a one-way course whether to submit or not but in the end sex workers refused and get back to what they usually do as what they is that, what the government offers is highly unsustainable notwithstanding their ideal work preference where they can go home early and see their children grow.

Stigma

For decades, the Philippines seemed to have avoided the disastrous AIDS epidemics confronted by the neighbor ing countries. While the Philippines, according to Department of Health (DOH) has controlled the HIV epi demic among female sex workers, the country noted a shift in the epidemic in 2007, notably among males who have sex with males then persons who inject drugs, and has therefore scaled-up ser vices tailored to other key risk popula tions since that time.

The percentage of MSM and TGW who knew their HIV status by getting tested increased from 5% in 2011 to 16% in 2015; however, this still remains low. HIV testing is the necessary step to access life-saving antiretroviral medica tions. In the latest, the National Statis tics Office (NSO) there were 152, 600 population size estimate number of sex workers in the Philippines recorded in 2018.

Sex Workers statistics: A full blown Epidemic Disease

In a Christian country, Sex workers’ rights is undeniably hard to be accepted notwithstanding a political climate that shows no mercy for people who avails this kind of escape from the high-cost of living in the Philippines, where crim inalizing them is among their priority as stipulated in the The Revised Penal Code, enacted in 1930. So is with the Magna Carta for women, but with a dif ferent spin, which names prostitution as an act of violence against women from which they should be protected, which casts prostitutes as victims. A long course of history began to roll, and is continually rolling towards identifying the rights of such workers.

How quick time flies that it was only a rumor before, PUV Modernization, a government’s initiative to aid the transportation crisis in the Philippines is currently blowing up. By 2020 a lot of jeepney drivers will have to look for another form of living, considering what Duterte mentioned in one of his speech, which is addressed specifically to driv ers, “Mahirap kayo? P****, magtiis kayo sa hirap at gutom, wala akong pakialam”.

Also, the project will require public vehicles to adhere to international stan dards. This means that riding a jeepney will no longer be hassle for someone as it is environmental friendly where it must have low emissions in compliance with the EURO IV emission standards or better; has a heightened security with the installation of CCTV and Dash board Cameras; Persons with Dissability friendly; provides wiFi connection; and has speed

PUVs. Primarily, it would require a new franchising system. Unlike before where jeepney operators are given the opportu nity to choose their route, the modern ization project will be fully regulated by the franchise system of the government. This will pave way to a standardize form of income that will abolish the boundary system that puts PUV drivers to suffer in their everyday endeavor.

There are many grounds why it was being called out. Some of these are, (1) Jeepney modernization will help address the increasing problem with air pollu tion by facing out old jeepneys. (2) Since jeepneys have been removed from the streets, traffic and other related issues will be solved. (3) More so, pro jeepney modernization points out that PUV drivers should not only focus only feed ing their family, but also think about the safety of the commuters. But what about the job itself?

They have been originally used to transport soldiers from one place to another during the World War, and now that they have been modified, new soldiers are sent to work every day. They’re not the only affected

He is a father to two children who are both working at the same time. “Masakit, medakal no reng manga layud” (It’s hard considering that there were already a lot of Jeepney drivers out there). The mere idea of waking around 4am - 5pm everyday to meet your quota and pay for the boundary and meet your bills is truly tiring what more if there are debts to pay?

As mentioned, commuters get to pay for the price as well. A well functioning form of transportation surely demands for something big - fare hike.

What we don’t know:

Clearly, the benefits that bees and other small pollinators bring us go beyond human food. Thanks to these pollinators, farm animals have diverse forage sources and hence more flexi

nevertheless inhibit pollination of the crop by acting as a repellent. Careful choice of pesticides may do much to reduce harm but farmers, especially in developing countries, may have few options and, on the whole, the more targeted the pesticide to the pest, the more expensive the target. Biological pesticides, however, are relatively safe to bees. Furthermore, climate change also has a negative impact. Higher temperatures, droughts, floods, other extreme climate events and changes of flowering time hinder pollina tion largely by desynchronizing the demand (flowers in bloom) with the supply of service providers (abundant and diverse populations of pollina tors). Different bee species behave differently and different crops have different pollination requirements. This is a tough time for farmers but it is also a tough time for beekeepers. Anything that can be done to enhance the pollination effectiveness of bees will be good for bees, beekeepers, and farmers.Safeguarding bees safeguards biodiversity, as the vast majority of pollinators are wild, including over 20 000 species of bees. To protect bees and pollinators from the threats to their abundance, diversity, and health, efforts should be made to build a greater diversity of pollinator habitats in agricultural and urban settings. Policies that favour of pollinators that promote biological pest control and limit the use of pesticides should be implemented. Farmers can help maintain pollinator abundance, di versity and health by using innovative practices that integrate local and scientific knowledge and experience; and by diversifying farms to make food resources and shelter contin uously available to pollinators. We need to increase collaboration among national and international organiza tions, academic and research bodies and networks to monitor research, and assess pollinators and pollina tion services. We all have a chance to grow our appreciation for bees and other pollinators, especially of their essential role in keeping people and the planet healthy and booming.

In fact, three out of four crops across the globe producing fruits or seeds for human use as food depend, at least in part, on pollinators for sustained production, yield and quality. Plus, pollination-dependent crops are five times more valuable than those that do not need polli nation. So embedded in our lives, bees and other pol linators have long inspired art, music and even sacred passages. But alarmingly, in a number of regions, pollination services are showing declining trends.

Bees and other pollinators are under threat. Present species ex tinction rates are 100 to 1 000 times higher than normal due to human impacts. Leaving field margins, ditch es, roadside verges and woodland edges unsprayed with chemicals, and undisturbed, does much for bee con servation. By definition, chemical in secticides are harmful but individual products vary greatly in their toxicity to bees. Pesticides may kill quickly or, worse, kill slowly. If not immediately killed, bees can carry the contaminat ed pollen back to the colony where it enters the food chains and kill many more. An insecticide may be harmless to the health of the bees but may

In the past, this service was provided by nature at no apparent cost. As farm fields have become larger, agricultural practices have also changed, focusing on a narrower list of crops and increasing the use of pesticides. Mounting evidence points to these factors as causes to the poten tially serious decline in populations of pollinators. The decline is likely to impact the production and costs of vitamin-rich crops like fruits and vegetables, leading to increasingly un balanced diets and health problems, such as malnutrition and non-com municable diseases. Maintaining and increasing yields in horticultural crops under agricultural development is important to health, nutrition, food security and better incomes for small holder farmers. The process of secur ing effective pollinators to ‘service’ agricultural fields is proving difficult to engineer, and there is a renewed interest in helping nature provide pollination services through practices that support wild pollinators.

ALTERNATIVES

The problem does not lie on the manufacturing of plastics but on the means on how we dispose it properly considering that it could take a single plastic to decompose completely after a century on average. Data shows that because there is so much plastic on earth some plastics do not degrade completely that scientists found tiny molecules of plastic that are still embedded on droplets of snow and water.

words by: Angelo D. Tolentino

The threat posed by the inabil ity to dispose plastics properly caused people to think of ways in order to look for alternatives that will exhibit sustainability. Biodegradable plastics, paper bags, and edible straws are seen to hold the potentiality of being one. However, we kept forgetting our roots, we overlooked at our alternatives at hand.

Kapampangans value their food and they would love to show off, but above that, they value family orientedness. Because of this, they would love to eat alto gether and use banana leaf as the base where food is placed. Eating in hands is prerequisite in doing so. Nostalgic as it can be, banana leaf is not only perfect for sus tainability but also bringing back a culture of respect and regards for others.

A ba nana leaf is expected decomposeto with in 6 months com pared with the 10 years decomposition period of a plastic. With the afore mentioned uses of banana leaves, there is hope in going back and acknowledging our practices. Sustainability is just a foot step away from our doors, we just have to explore and innovate.

The whole world was blown away after the news from Thai land that supermarkets started ditching the use of plastic in replacement of banana leaf. What makes a Banana leaf perfect as packaging is that it is enriched with fiber therefore making it very durable. Notwithstanding all its health benefits when used as food

n an alarming rate, the num ber of plastics worldwide has reached 8.3 billion metric tons. That whopping number is entangled to many existing environment-related problems such as marine and terrestrial life degradation, acid rain and air pollution caused by the burning of plastics, and soil pollution.

in banana leaf is indeed different, although it is hard to guess the science behind it, banana leaves are simply rich with plant-based compounds called polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, which is also found in green tea. Polyphenols are natural antioxidants that battle free radicals and prevent diseases. While banana leaves are not easy to digest if eaten directly, the food absorbs the polyphenols from the leaves, so that you get the benefit of theFoodnutrition.packages, especially in retailed products are one of the contributing factors to the current problem. But little did we know that even before them is the well-known banana leaf that were used to wrap our most delicious rice cakes and other all-time favorite Kapampangan foods. But there are other ways in order to use these wonder leaves, some of the most notable Kapampangan ways to use banana leaves are:

It is made of rice flour, coconut milk, topped with palabok sauce, salted egg or boiled egg, shred ded chicken, and sprinkled with fried garlic and nuts. It is usually steamed but most importantly it is wrapped in banana leaves which surprisingly serves as a plate to eat the delicacy.

LGMDT bags golds in hiphop, indigenous dances

evenge has been served--the sweetest victory really comes from failures and the greatest success are the ones who came from the Lord above.

Negative thoughts are inevitable, as shared by Jeanelle Escoto Pare, one of the indigenous dancers, as she expressed the pressure the dancers have as they participate in the event. “Tuwing nagpapractice, akala mo nagagawa mo yung best mo pero hindi pa pala,” she said. But pushing their limits as dancers enabled them to bagged the gold in spite of only a month and a half preparation.

“Last year kasi, I relied on myself. This year, I gave everything to God”, said Tolentino as he narrated his experience during the compe tition. The said competition was held in the second day of the fest, No vember 19,2019 in Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU).

LGMDT acquired gold from the Hip hop and Indigenous category, at the same time securing the 4th spot in the tinikling-themed Folk Dance. However, due to the lack of dancers, LGMDT did not partici pate in the Contemporary Dance Category.

He also left a short but inspiring message to other aspiring artists, “Don’t be afraid to fall back and lose”

His coach, Mrs. Amalia Briones of the College of Education was also one of his inspiration in that said battle.

“After ng class namin, every 5:20 p.m., pumupunta kami ng Multi para makapagpractice na kami,” said Raven Mañalac, one of the folk dancers.Efforts are not put into waste as they obtain 4th place out of the 13 participating groups.

Jonas Blas, LGMDT coach, talked about the non-stop training they have done to perfect their dance routines. “Continuous ang training namin, dahil as dancers, kailangan consistent iyon,” he said. The prepa rations were intended not only for the physical, but for the mental aspects as well. As contestants, they need to eradicate the thoughts of doubts, fear and nervousness.

Gelo, revenge!”, yan yun laging sinasabi sa akin ni Ma’am”, he said when asked about the motivations that he received from his coach.

After the conflict of dancers, the Hip hop team concluded with seven members making it to the minimum cut of six members. Due to this conflict, the group only had less than a month to prepare for the competition.Theteam focused on creating a performance where audiences can relate and enjoy and this was accomplished by using the trending memes as their concept.

This year’s theme for the folk dance competition is Tinikling. To be able to execute an accurate performance, their preparation centered on enhancing their good posture and flexibility. The folk dancers spent a month and a half preparing for the competition.

Jan Andrew Galang, one of the Hip hop dancers, expressed the hin drances they have encountered during their preparation. “Kulang kami ng dancers tapos kapag nagrerecruit ako, may nagbaback-out,” he said.

“We are so blessed,” shared the Hip hop team after winning the 1stDplace.

HB 4681 DRAWS FLAK FROM STUDENTS, ETHICS TEACHER

“Ang problema ay nagiging redundant ang Values Educa tion. Pwede naman ‘yon sa Araling Panlipunan. At the back of my mind, ito ‘yung gusto kong mangyari, ang Araling Panlipunan sa primary, sa secondary, and even sa tertiary. Ang Araling Panlipunan ay hindi nabibigyan ng due attention kasi kung ang Araling Panlipunan ay matuturo ng maayos, there is no need na ituro ang Ethics subject but the problem is, I have to be candid. So for me, one for one, hindi naman kailangang ioffer as a seperate subject. It’s just only a matter of defining yung landscape ng social sciences. A matter of ano lang ‘yan, a matter of scope and a mat ter of strategy. Kung honest to goodness na ituturo ang Araling Panlipunan, wala tayong problema,” he added.

Citing the need to strengthen the ethics and values of citizens through educational system, Batangas Representative Mario Vittorio Mariño has filed the said bill mandating all col leges and universities to provide three-unit ethics course, and making ethics cumpolsary seperate course in elementary and secondaryHouseeducation.BillNo.4681

Arden Quiazon, a Bachelor of Secondary Education second year student and a newbie in CAASUC made the cut by performing the song entitled “Pakiusap” composed by Francisco Santiago

“Honestly, I want to join again but I’m also thinking of sacrificing my acads [academics] for the event. It is definitely hard for me to get back to the activities and quizzes that I have missed,” Quiazon answered if she has a plan to join next year’s CAASUC.

Professor Arnold Gozum, an Ethics teacher in the College of Education, voiced out his opinion regarding the said propos al stating that, “Hindi naman kinakailangang ioffer as a seperate subject eh. Even I am an Ethics teacher, hindi ako magdu-dwell sa mismong Ethics lang. Pwede namang iincorporate natin ‘yung doon sa Ethics for teachers for example. In the same token as, ‘yung pagoffer mo sa Ethics subject. Bombarded na nga ‘yung mga estudyante kasi ang dami-daming subjects at parang bum abalik tayo diyan and hindi sila makakapagconcentrate.”

Education second year student, articulated that, “Disagree po ako if sa elementary pa lang ay ituturo na agad ang asignaturang Ethics kasi hindi pa kaya ng isang bata na i-absorb ‘yung mga terms na maaari nilang i-tackle sa subject na iyon. Sa highschool and college naman is agree ako. Since nasa tama na ring edad, kaya na nilang i-formulate ‘yung mga terms and everything na included sa asignaturang Ethics.”

I was expecting that my competitors are really good but with the help of our trainor, Mr. Renato Simbulan, I believed that I would be on the top five,” she further added.

S

“We practice and practice. Actually, I cried because I can’t beat the high notes and I am losing my voice an hour before the competition,” Quiazon responded when asked how did she prepare for the said competition and what are the struggles that she has encountered before the contest proper.

The said activity correspondingly aimed to maximize the function of the in-house dental staff and facilities of the university’s infirmary instead of sending the students outside. However, Totaan also emphasized that the clinic cannot assist overwhelming numbers of consultants.

In addition, Manalus stated that implementing Free WiFi is not only for the benefit of students like her but as well as a catch-up to other places who have accessible free WiFi in their area. “Hindi natin makikita ang outcome kung uunahin nating tignan ang mga disadvantages na maidudulot niya. Paano tayo magdedevelop kung makukuntento nalang tayo sa kung anong maroon tayo ngayon? Matuto tayong magtake risk sa mga disadvantage pero maging optimistic tayo sa mga advantages na maidudulot niya kasi paniguradong mas mara mi no’n,” Manalus added.

he thing about success is that it goes as loud as the thunder, but not as fast as lightning. In order to achieve it, you must work hard because it does not easily come. There has to be dark clouds and rain to have lightning and thunder. And as for an athlete, you have to go through ups and downs before living the success you want in life, and reaching it was never easy, especially for a gymnast.

CARLOS YULO A Gymnast’s Historical Tumble

He started with series of simple tumbling when he was still seven, and growing up, that little fire in his heart continued until it became a burning passion. This desire kept him going until he became the “Carlos Edriel Yulo”, the very first Southeast Asian and a Filipino to win the gold medal in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. At the age of nineteen, as young as it may sound, he managed to be on top, with a 6.5 difficulty value in which he executed successfully. The noise of his triumph was a thunder in the Philippines, and blinding flashes of the cameras were all over the airport when he returned after the competition. Every Filipino who came to the airport that day were very proud of hisHowever, victory.

every success has its own story. Caloy, as his close friends and family call him, has been through hardships before he became the person he is now. The playground across the Manila Zoo was the witness when he was just starting together with his cousins and his grandfather. In one of his interviews, he compared the gym into a jungle when he first saw it, for it was beautiful for him. When he started his journey as a gymnast, he won several awards for contending in local gymnastics competitions. In the

Year 2017 was a challenging part for he got homesick and the language barrier was not helping either. In the same year, the burn ing flame he had for gymnastics almost burned out. He almost quit, but fortunately, he managed to get back on track. After years of working hard, he claimed the bronze medal in 2018, thinking and aiming the gold one the following year, which eventually became a reality and he even got qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He even recalled how he felt the goosebumps all over him when the national anthem of the Philippines started playing in the arena.

His victory made the sport gymnastics be even more popular in the country. Some people have this stereotype that the word gymnast is associated with female, so when Carlos won, he made a subtle clarification that males can also do gymnastics. In fact, with his triumph, many aspiring gymnasts are even more inspired to try and continue what they started. His victory paved the way for those who dream to be successful gymnasts.

year 2016, he went to Japan with his Japanese coach Munehiro Kugiyama to undergo an intensive training.

The thunder of his tumble made a history, proving that a simple dream is possible when you work hard for it. There may be ups and downs, bad landings and all, but your perseverance would not be in vain for as long as you don’t give up. Looking at how Carlos made it, success is indeed not an achievement, but a journey that is worth all the trails of hardships and sacrifices.

Through the decades of being the quar ters of the student athletes in their trainings and activities, it is fair enough to claim that the PSAU Grandstand has played a vital role in their success. It has watched all the missed passes of the basketball players, and their hard work to execute their winning shots; the oval of the Grandstand has witnesed all the runners sprint to finish their races and how they hurdled over all the obstacles that they faced alongside. It was the main spectator of how the students, in whatever sport they are involved in, have managed to transform their weaknesses into strengths and be victors in their own way.

Leaving an exceptional mark, the place has instilled a different definition to whoever appreciates the beauty and funtion of it: A place of comfort of every athlete. This is how PSAU Grandstand can be described according to one of the outstanding players of PSAU Mr. Harold Sedin Jr., a second year student of Bachelor of PhysicalServingEducation.asavenue for molding every student athlete, not just in their physical aspect but in also terms of their emotional, mental, social and spiritual growth, it became an domicile of influ ence. The PSAU Grandstand performs the role of being the training ground not only for learning the rules of a game nor executing the drills of every sporting event, but also a place where the players hone their character and over all values with regards to sports and other crucial aspects of their persona, such as how they cope up with the difficulties as players and also as learners. It became the university’s main setting when it comes to developing camaraderie and connection not limited for the students who are inclined in sports, but it is also reachable for the populace of the university.

For someone who has seen how the PSAU Grandstand flourished as the center of astounding activities, one of the Physical Education instructors, Mr. Odinell L. Cuyugan described the remarkable place as the training ground for everyone. “It witnessed the devel opment of every individual in terms of their character and performance.” said Cuyugan in recognition to the Grandstand’s advantageous contributions in general.

Even the darkest clouds are seen above, yet embracing the peace in the heart of everyone. It is a building that is established and still stand ing until today. But it also shows the effect and impact of our actions towards it. It may not be verbal but in the sense of consequences that we, ourselves could actually feel it.

“If I were the PSAU Grandstand, what I would say to everyone is: Please, take care with me. Love me as how you use me.”

Indeed, the PSAU Grandstand is a field full of experiences of university staffs. It has seen someone laugh and cry, containing the memo ry of PSAU people that marked in its soul and will never be forgotten.

During the night, most of the students commonly end their academic undertakings, but it is only the start for the players to work hard to achieve a common goal and purpose, selflessly, as a member of a team and as a rep resentative of our university.

Sedin said that, “Nothing can be compared with my experiences here. How I started, who I was in the first time that I stepped in this ground, from seed and then developed into a tree that always stands despite of any calamity. For me, it’s priceless. It will forever be remembered and part of the reasons why I become a successful athlete someday.”“Grandstand is the home of athletes, students and University Staffs where their dreams and goals become achieved through practice and dedication”, he added. More than being a place of training fighters and champions, it is also where they are being molded in their attitude during a game; to learn how to be humble in the face victory as well as defeat.

I was kicked out from the (College of) Education dahil nung mga time na ‘yon wala kaming excuse sa mga competition. Like nandoon ako sa Isabela, nagfa-finals sila dito. So hindi ako nakapag-finals, so I got grade of 5. And then, nagshift ako ng Agribusiness. Jeronie Balatazar, the concurrent Sports director and a product of Pampanga State of University is a Hercules during his prime. He has been a champion of 400-meter hurdle, for 5 consecutive years in the annual State Col leges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet, and his story of perseverance to attain triumph has been known by few since then, not even during this time.

Aside from athletics, Mr. Baltazar was also part of the La Granja Modello Cultur al Group way back 1993, 1994, and 1996. During the interview, he mentioned, “33 members nalang kami noon, lahat kami su masayaw, kumakanta, naga-act. Kami narin ang nakikipag-compete sa chorale”. He made it clear during the interview, “Competing not only in sports but also in cultural”. He further pushed himself through the limits by joining the Ginoong PAC back in the year 1993 in which he was able to have the title.

When asked about what is his driving force in keeping up despite all challenges in Athletics, he answered: “Scholarship, wala akong perang pangenroll. Wala rin naman akong pera na pang-aral kung di ako mag work as student assistant. So, I worked sa cold spring, (ako nagme-maintain)” He proceeded by saying, “Ayokong manatiling maging farm er kasi huminto ako sa pag-aaral and then na experience ko yung farming, mahirap, so kahit magtrabaho ka ng magtrabaho at the end of the day pag nagharvest ka may utang ka parin.

So that drove me to finish my studies. Mr. Baltazar, on the question, “If you will be thanking anyone, who will that/those be?”. “

“At most pag-uwi ko sa SCUAA ang pinaka-kakonting inuuwi kong medals is three gold medals and then may dalawang silver medals at isang bronze medals. Kasi that time, dahil mahirap kami sa sports, tatlo lang kaming events, track and field, tennis, atsaka sepak takraw. Yung lahat nang dinanas naming hirap noon, di na dinadaanan ng mga players ngayon. Ayoko nang mangyari sa kanila yon’ kasi traumatic siya e – para sa akin ah? Kasi I wasn’t able to feel the support talaga ng administration sa lahat ng players niya. In fact, I qualified for two National SCUAA pero hindi ako naka-participate, gawa ng may utang pang binabayaran ang school sa SCUAA. So ang ginawa ng SCUAA Management, di na nila kami sinali – di pala nila sinali ang PAC noon sa Bacolod, at isa pang Natioonal SCUAA somewhere North.” he added.

TIME COACHESLAPSE

The Superman ended the interview by underscoring some important advices to all aspiring athletes. “Para sa kanila lang, I live with the motto kasi, ‘The joy of victory is yours to gain, once you master pressures and pain’ so ang ibig kong sabihin, being an athlete is not just easy, because you have to divide your time. Time Management, at the same time, ma-eencounter mo yung gustong magreview, di ka makapagreview kasi wala ng pumapasok dahil sa sobrang pagod mo sa practice – that’s everyday. Noon sa amin, 2-3 hours a day. Umuuwi ako alas-siete, alas-otso na ng gabi. So i-enjoy lang nila. And just live with their dreams, kung ano yung pangarap nila, abutin lang nila, work hard for it. Pero the most important thing, wag nilang kalimutan yung kanilang professional growth which is yung studies – study, study, study. Kahit average ka lang basta ang importante may diploma ka, may natapos ka, anyway pagdating mo ng trabaho di naman hinihingi ‘yan – it’s the diskarte na lahat ng athlete I believe madiskarte ‘yan, malakas ang loob, at mabilis magdecision.”

COMRADE’S ADVICE

On a question about the differences of the Athletic players before and now, Mr. Baltazar explained, “Noong time namin walang support, mahirap, so you have to struggle by your own. You have to train by your own. Ngayon, andami ng pwedeng ma-avail ng athlete like pagka-kunyare aside from athletic scholars, meron pa silang allowance, meron pa silang incentives kapag nanalo sila, tapos yung uniform.

During the grand opening ceremonies of the mentioned biennial regional sports event which has generally drawn positive feedbacks from the netiezens, it did not escape from the barrel of criticisms as Senator Manny Pacquiao and boxing champion Nesthy Petecio’s torch lighting of the cauldron made the spectators upset since the video shown in the television was a pre-recorded shot and not a live telecast. In line with this, notable critics in the Philippine, have said that the 50-million cauldron would have been better spent helping the na tion’s children particularly in the educational scheme, and the poor which are deemed more beneficial for the country instead of showing an extravaganza where its glory would only last for weeks.

One person on Facebook even mocked about the cauldron that after SEA Games, it can be used as a basin for washing clothes or a huge casserole to cook paella. It was a sarcasm that depicts disap pointment.Onthe contrary, the figures behind the controversial structure lead by SEA Games Organizing Commitee Chief Allan Peter Cayeta no believed that the cauldron is a work of art amidst of its collosal cost. Cayetano even said that with the visage of the cauldron, they can see the athletes, or they can see the burning flames that represent

To put it in perspective, Senator Franklin Drilon, a member of the opposition, has raised his radical disappointment towards the construction of the cauldron which he even equated to the rise of 50 classrooms which is just a sprinkle of the total needed classrooms in the country but surely a big help in fostering Filipino people more than the cauldron can do.

Instead of constructing the “most expensive campfire,” they should have distributed the finance for the training of the athletes to give a better shot at gold to any sports event locally or internationally, or to refurbish sports facilities ahead of time. Only if they conducted their renovation of the various sports infrastractures, they could have avoided the cramming of upgrading the facilities which has piled an other controversy for this year’s SEA Games.

Asian (SEA) Games built at the main stadium in New Clark City which was supposed to stand as the emblem of unity and sportmanship among the member states and the people has turned as the nucleus of arguments, creating a wide uproar and dismay from the Filipinos, including some politicians.

Also, it should have used as an addition to the incentives received by Filipino athletes who seized medals as a sort of motivation to them to perform better. A cauldron might be forgotten in a while, but the honor brought by athletes will forever mark in history so it is a must to invest more on the athletes themselves.

Ansuccessful.amountof Php 50 million can change many lives and can create an array of opportunities to the welfare of the majority when looking at the most practical side for a country where poverty and alarming social issues are stil prevalent. Thus, using that amount for a sense of pride or to show off is not the best reason to spend such huge quantity of money where it could go beyond that.

It is time to bring back the golden days of sports in the Philip pines where more Filipino representatives had landed on Olympic podium finishes, and had decent placements on World Cup events. It is time not to step up, but relive the momentum that was ruined but not lost. Yet, Filipino athletes need fuel to achieve this and to burn the drive, not only the loud cheers but the financial support from the government.

“Not knowing what I want to do.” This came from the actual respondent when asked about what they perceive to be the biggest challenge in the way of achieving happiness. As humans, it seems as though we perceive that only if we can have what we want, the way we want it, and when we want it, can we have happiness. We will be unhappy with any way other than this. The moment someone fails to meet this requirement, that person’s world crumbles. Happiness becomes an impossibility, not just for the time being, but forever after.

and desire what is denied to us” according to Francois Rabelais. Happiness seem to be difficult to achieve and even harder to maintain. People desire for happiness because the world denied them reasons to be happy, that’s why they never understand exactly what makes them happy. In an online survey by Kathy Cap rino, 771 people have responded where participants need to answer the question “If you could say in one word what you want more of in life, what would that be?”, the most mentioned missing element is Happiness.

Who wouldn’t want power, though? Where it can give us the freedom to make our own decisions, and our sense of well-being grows when we do what we want.

On the other hand, autonomy is a kind of power that allows one person to ignore and resist the influence of others and thus to shape one’s own destiny, even if it takes to destroy a country, even if it takes killing innocent people, and even if the cost is chaos.

Through a survey held to 986 readers of the Dutch Magazine aimed at professionals, where readers need to indicate how much power they held in their job depending on the hierarchy of their position, they completed a survey by listing the autonomy of their position and how much they desired more for power. As a result, top managers felt that they have enough autonomy and didn’t indicate a strong desire for power. However, middle managers, low managers, and non-managers all desired for power more than the top managers. This indicates that the lack of autonomy quenches the desire for additional power, this could mean that almost all people around the world who continuously feel the lack of autonomy might have secretly desire for autonomous power.

At the end of the day, though bad things occur out of selfish desires, if we look at the brighter side, the good in this world have sprouted out of desires of love, peace, and hope. Chaos, commotion, confusion — these things are inevitable. But if our hearts eradicate selfish desires, we can at least conceal the negative with hopes of good future. As humans, the very least we could do is to desire for a better cause.

online survey. Not having enough money to accomplish the things we want to do. In earlier societies, we have this what we call the wage earner in which they must earn money to survive. If a man had no wages, then he will face starvation or much worse — death. Later on, money became the substitute for supplies of food and clothing. And soon after, money became the symbol of status and measurement of achievement. Where worth referred to wealth and not about one’s ability or spirituality.

The rich man begins to feel superior to those who need to earn for a living. He can get pleasure from a life of luxury that is not accessible to the average person. He is also given tremendous power and can use his money to control and dominate other people. Money has become so important that men will lie, cheat, bribe, defame, and kill to get it. The love of money becomes the ultimate idolatry. And that continues until today, no wonder people desire for money.
