Press Release As part of this year’s LGBTTI+ Pride we celebrate the diversity of the Queer community with a manifesto created by each of the artists.

We stand side by side in reconquered spaces, with open minds, with a collective vision, and continuing the momentum of generations dedicated to the struggle to be seen and heard. We proclaim, we shout, we sing, we dance, we write, we paint, we sculpt, we photograph, we create in the face of ignorance and politics. WE DECLARE THE FUTURE IS QUEER!

PRPG.mx works with over 300 artists participating in exhibitions in Mexico City and on Artsy.net. The community is a mix of what we believe to be the future of queer; artists who exist outside the norms of mainstream society and who care that the representation of their stories is centered in their humanity. This community is local, it is international with our online residency program Art Lab Project, and it represents artists from Mexico, the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. Our project is centered within our core values, focused on building ethical and sustainable relationships with our artists so we can all continue to create and explore within safe spaces for queer voices.

We are honored to also be collaborating with Entre lenchas, vestidas y musculocas a visual and performing arts festival that is held throughout the month of June in the CDMX by the Secretaría de Cultura and the Teatro de la Ciudad de México. For five years, the cycle Entre lenchas, vestidas y musculocas has been a space of inclusion, freedom and respect, and in its 2021 edition will renew its vocation by presenting the wide range of colors, emotions and stories that show the diversity and cultural richness of Mexico City.

Special thanks must be extended to our Gestor Cultural, Rodrigo Archiniega for whom I am eternally grateful for his help in creating visibility for the artists of PRPG.mx. May we live the brunettes, the tight, the peripheral queers, the rural, the anti-speciesists.

May we live the non-binary bodies, the seropositive bodies, the transmasculinities, the subversive femininities and the transfeminities.

May we live the transvestites, the muxes, the chuntaes, the marinquillas.

May we live the diversities that existed before the acronym LGBT+.

May we live the diverse identities that are not identified within the LGBT+ collectives, queer, cuir, kuir, cuirtz. May we live diverse, non-toxic masculinities.

May we live free and without fear, we, nosotres and us transmaricaslenchas.

And that together we can continue to think of a world in common, where we are not killed, where we are not raped and violated.

Where the GOOD LIVING exists.

May we live all the diversities, we, those dissidences so rich and strong, and may we together bring justice to all our sisters, brothers and sisters, who have been killed by hate crimes, because let’s remember that Mexico ranks second in homo, les, bi-transphobia crimes.

May we live with dignity, we, we and we who make up these multitudes, these beautiful, beautiful, burning dissidences, and I say multitudes, because we are many, and we are many who are and who are going to make this world, speciesist, murderous, cold and heteresoxual, go through.

I want to celebrate and commemorate all of us, everyone and all those little butterflies or butterflies so that no one rips off our little wings.

The dance is so passionate. It feels real. I grasp this sense of freedom. I grasp it so tight, almost like it is the last thing I will ever hold.

I dance to my queerness.

The dance is so loud. It is the dance of freedom because queerness is freedom’s sister.

You didn’t know?

I dance to my colors.

The dance is so bright it attracts warriors, fighters, lovers, change-makers. It’s so bright, it outshines the laser show that syncs with the music at the dance club.

My queerness is my dance.

One, two. One, two, three.

My Caribbean skin radiates— flashes of purple— flashes of blue. I can hear the Haitian Konpa so clear. It’s clearer when you are queer.

My dance is my queerness.

One, two. One, two, three. The future. Is this it? The future is grasping your freedom forever. It is never taking off the make-up. It is never transforming for survival.

Is this the future? Grasping my queerness eternally?

Yes. It is.

I dance all night. Alone. I am my own girl. I am my own boy. I am my own person. Then, I am nothing at all but everything at once— like the laser lights hitting my Haitian soul.

Is this the future?

An eternal dance of liberation.

One, two. Dance. Dance.

Dance. I dance because I am queer. The lights will never go out. The music exists forever.

For the last eleven years of my life I have been exploring through image who I really am as a person and as an artist.

During this time I have felt broken many times and have had to pick up every piece of myself from the ground to rebuild and reinvent myself.

As part of the Muxe community of Oaxaca I have learned that my voice to the world will always be my origins that saw me grow, develop as a person and as an artist. It has not been an easy road because at first I was not accepted for my sexual preference or my origins. I was wandering for

a long time trying to find myself and I can say that today I am achieving it, although there is still a long way to go artistically and personally.

For me the most important thing in an artist should be that the work he produces comes from the heart to reflect on things that happen around him and somehow make the public aware.

As an artist I must feel in order to create and revolutionize my world.

The concept “Queer” is evolutionary, fluid, abstract and historical. Queer is transgressive, violent, expressive, identitarian and collective.

For the Queer community, the figure of the ghost has a special nuance: the possibility of disembodiment, of looking in the mirror and constructing one’s own image, creating new memories by modifying what we see in the mirror, leaving behind a series of ghosts of what we were as we discover our identity.

Queer people, like ghosts, are in the struggle to be seen and heard.

Existing, remaining, and remembering are acts of resistance.

I make art because I have to; to make visible my experience as a trans woman; to communicate what it’s like to live in a body that doesn’t fit the expectations of society and for which there is no space.

I want to empower other trans* people to use their voice to speak their truth in whatever way they can; we cannot be erased or silenced.

I believe that diversity is our strength, there is no one way to be trans*, no one-size-fits-all, no one story exactly the same; there is no trans* stereotype and there never will be.

Understand that all our experiences are valid and our identities are not up for debate. Our bodies are our own, how we present ourselves, how we move though society, how we deal with the cisgender heteronormative world is political and personal.

Trans* people have existed forever, we have always been here but our histories have been erased and our voices silenced; we have been pathologized, shamed and incarcerated and despite or because of our increased visibility we continue to be.

Ignorance is the root of transphobia and I shall educate whenever I get the opportunity to, understanding our struggle; listening to our stories, we can alter the circumstances under which we live our daily lives.

We will change the world for the better; the future has no gender, no dress-code and no boundaries.

We need our human rights now and we need you to Stop.

We will be understood. We will be radically authentic. We will not conform to societal ideals. We will eradicate the idea of perfection.

In the future, we will be free from oppression. We will fight patriarchal structures and we will win. We will tear down every system that excludes us because of our identities.

We will rebuild society on the ashes of imperialism. We will dismantle capitalism. We will be the vanguard of liberation.

In the future, we will take care of each other. We will not look away as we walk past huddled bodies in the street. We will not allow homelessness to exist anymore.

We will not allow slavery to exist anymore. We will tear down the prisons and build hospitals, schools, and community gardens in their place. We will help those in need. We will stop demonizing people with mental illnesses and addictions.

We will stop demonizing our own mental illnesses and addictions. We will give help and we will get help.

In the future, we will allow ourselves to live between binaries. We will not be constrained by labels. We will question everything. We will not be afraid of impermanence.

We will accept changes in our own identities and changes in the identities of those around us. We will celebrate individuality. We will treat our bodies with the respect and affection they deserve. We will love unconditionally.

The future begins now.

“The demiurge is cuir”.

Thus closes the epilogue of: “The Other Side”, a novel by Alfred Kubin about borders and phantasmatic countries that refer me to purgatory, the title of my work.

In Spanish, this quote translates as: “El demiurgo es hermafrodita” (The demiurge is hermaphrodite).

The divine entities as imaginary beings of the underworld, always oscillate between identities, borders and ambivalent spaces free of juridiction. This is how: “lo cuir” in this manifesto is a political stance regarding the representation of such a fascinating figure as the demiurge in the hermetic tradition and in alchemy.

Demiurge as creative power integrating the masculine/feminine principles in the universe.

Demiurge as the active principle of divinity and the concept of God. Demiurge as a figure that oscillates in symbolic and spiritual drontiers such as Purgatory.

There is in the act of rescuing from among the fantasies or possibilities of tomorrow, which do not seem at all attractive to the rigorous hegemonic model of today’s ideal society, a rest to that feeling of uncertainty and impotence that seem not to end with the context of our present that has fostered so much fear, hatred, violence and social distinction in many ways. Collectivity is the strongest means to resist the list of control mechanisms and normativity that our ideal model imposes, being that different, queer part of humanity called “Queer” becomes a very useful anti-system tool to understand gender and sexuality as a means by which we can de-identify ourselves from what is already established and repeated through time.

I see our society being able to coexist with multiple forms of life without the human being the center of it all, humanity resembling a garden full of flowers, all different, unique, beautiful and with the same right to be cared for.

A humanity capable of saying goodbye to the identity card as a requirement to love the other, discarding imposition and hierarchies. An environment that exalts differences where labels are only non-definitive guides that flow in constant change.

Gender and sexuality as a construction ground open to the general public without impositions of any kind and without restrictions for the curious.

To be queer is to be in a state of fluidity, moving through and across gender, experience, sexuality, and identity. For me it is to be an artist who paints a broad range of experience, who inhabits and represents experiences not my own, of my queer siblings and family, but whose experiences mirror my own in joy, in suffering, in otherness and othering. It is to be other, to be in between, to journey from side to side with grace and style. It is to inhabit fully every place, and no place, and in the living leave marks of art, of union, of stories told and stories heard and stories yet unfolding. It is to listen, to represent my queer family with love, permission, empathy, and happiness. To imagine a past other than the past we have been told, and to imagine a future other than the future we were promised.

Our future will come when we have an epiphany: that fitting in is unproductive, painful and inadequate. Perception will change, as it is impossible to fit into a false idea of homogeneity that has been imposed on us.

Queers will be the new banners, albeit unwillingly, or without wanting to impose it on anyone, when humanity becomes humanity after seeing that being different is more interesting than being “one more”.

Drag fans will be cornucopias, from which all the magic will come out: genetics will finally be able to give life to unicorns. There will be no cisgender president in any country. Education will be sexual and promote respect. No one will expose themselves without consent. Bullying will cease to have any effect. Past embarrassments will be raw material for pride and ostentation.

Traumas will become art. Tears into laughter. Pain into moaning. Queer art will cease to be ghetto and become canon. Everyone will have their 15 minutes of orgasm, and every day!

But the future will also reconnect us with our most human past: our return to the state of nature. Not the Hobbesian one, from which, in fact, we have never left, but the Rousseaunian, the utopian one.

In place of religions will be the spirit of hedonism.

The ass will be the heart. Paul Beatriz Penteado will be the author of the book that will replace religious books, but a book that will guide us without forbidding or forcing us. “Sordido will be the new Elegante.

And when there is a storm, let it rain silver or gold!

Queer is about freedom. Freedom to choose and freedom to accept. Queer is beyond sexuality- it is a mindset. The Miriam-Webster dictionary defines queer as odd, strange, weird, eccentric, unconventional. A big Yes to all of these adjectives.

As a non-binary person, I believe that being genderqueer will be the new normal in the future. The question “Gay or Straight?” or “Male or Female?” will be irrelevant because it stems from a binary concept. To me, it feels already outdated. We need to thrive for a society that nurtures and embraces genderqueer, non-binary, agender lifestyles. Everyone should have the birthright to a life free of gender confinements.

Queer is about inclusion, not separation. The many letters in the LGBTQ+ alphabet are helpful labels to help us communicate our status at a point in time, but they should not confine us and separate us from one another. New language will help us to break free from categories.
