Endowed Scholarship Established in Honor of Mr. Vega’s Retirement Hello Providence Alumni, Parents, and Friends,

A

Were it not for scholarship and financial assistance, Mr. Vega would have been unable to graduate from Loyola High School and Georgetown University. The Rafael Vega Endowed Scholarship Fund will fund student scholarships into perpetuity, as the principal is invested and only the investment earnings are used to grant the scholarships. This scholarship will help students for many generations to come!

s many of you know, Mr. Rafe Vega, one of our beloved teachers, retired on June 3, 2017. In honor of this momentous occasion, Providence created the Rafael Vega Endowed Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be awarded annually to help students attend PHS as an extension of what Mr. Vega has done since 1968 — helping students achieve great things here. He has given so much to Providence and the community has benefited immensely from his dedicated service.

Please thank Mr. Vega for all that he has done for this community by donating today and help students experience the amazing Providence community that he has been so instrumental in shaping. For more information, check out www.providencehigh. org.

It has been almost 30 years since I graduated from Providence and when I look back, Mr. Vega is definitely one of the most impactful teachers I had. Now that I am the parent of two teenagers, I have an even deeper appreciation for Mr. Vega. He taught us many important things, but I remember best how he treated us. He is a teacher who connects easily with students, jokes with them, and treats them not like children, but like the young adults they are becoming. His sense of humor makes every day better and students have felt supported and valued by Mr. Vega for many years.

*Editor’s note: As of press time, nearly $70,000 has been donated toward the Rafael Vega Endowed Scholarship Fund and gifts are still coming in! Thank you to those who have donated. All donors will be officially recognized in the next issue of Pioneer Connections.

I remember Mr. Vega as someone who always treated others with kindness, found joy in daily life, and devoted his time in meaningful ways. After recently reconnecting with him, I see that nothing has changed. Mr. Vega has been a bright spot in the lives of so many who have come through Providence.
