Transforming Lives with Behavioral Health Services

the
to talk about, but it’s critical that we do. And not just talk—but act.
Your gift can help weave a safety net of behavioral health support at Providence Everett and offer a literal lifeline to those navigating their most difficult times.
Every day, people in our community face overwhelming behavioral health challenges. Someone you know is likely struggling right now.
In fact, one in five adults and adolescents in the U.S. experiences a mental health disorder each year. Yet, many of them don’t have access to the help they need.
In our community, a significant shortage of behavioral health resources already existed—and then COVID came along. The stress and isolation of the pandemic magnified the cracks in our local behavioral health system and made the needs in our community even more urgent.
Providence Everett is taking important, innovative steps to meet the behavioral health demands in our community.
We’re already leading the way in steadily and diligently building a robust and comprehensive behavioral health program to respond to these critical community needs.
The framework is here, but the demand for these services continues to grow.
Funding is a major roadblock. More than 70% of Providence Everett patients are on some sort of government health insurance that reimburses at a lower rate than the actual cost of care.
Simply put, we need your help. Philanthropy is essential to building and expanding access to the behavioral health resources our community needs.
Your philanthropic support can provide immediate relief for someone in crisis, support a patient’s journey toward recovery, and offer compassionate care when and where it’s needed most.
Providence Everett needs partners, like you, to create and expand the solutions to the rising cases of mental health and substance use disorders in our community.
Your generosity can help broaden the behavioral health options so more people can get the help they need—at the time and place that’s best for them.
“Our team at Providence Everett is dedicated to supporting individuals through every step of their behavioral health journey. We focus on both immediate crises and long-term recovery, ensuring each person receives the compassionate care they need to heal and thrive.”
– Gretchen R. Clark Bower, Senior Director of Behavioral Health Services, Providence Everett and Co-chair Snohomish County Behavioral Health Coalition

Providence Everett is developing an innovative approach to behavioral health care that provides multiple options customized to a patient’s needs, both clinically and in balance with their lives.
Providence, in partnership with Providence Medical Group, integrates behavioral health care into primary care—for both adult and pediatric patients. This makes it easier for patients to access care in a stigma-free environment and provides them with help right away, rather than being referred to an outside specialist.
Providence opened the BHUC in late 2019 to provide immediate care to those in behavioral health crisis. Located near Providence Everett’s Emergency Department (ED), the BHUC alleviates the burden on our ED teams, who had been overwhelmed by the number of patients presenting with behavioral health care needs and may not have had the specialized training needed to provide appropriate care. The BHUC was the first of its kind on the West Coast and is now a model for others wanting to offer this service.
With donor support, Providence Everett is opening a new PHP/IOP program in 2025. The PHP/IOP provide short-term, intensive day treatment for adults and adolescents with psychiatric needs. They offer a step-down option for patients who need support when leaving the hospital, or a step-up for those who need intensive treatment but not hospitalization. Patients can get intensive behavioral health treatment while still living at home and maintaining normalcy in their lives. This means patients are more likely to seek this customized care.
Opened in 2021 due to overwhelming community need, the 24-bed inpatient psychiatric unit is consistently full, reflecting the continuing need in our community. The unit provides acute psychiatric treatment for patients aged 16 and older and is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of skilled behavioral health care professionals who care for patients in a calming, therapeutic environment. The space includes a secure, outdoor, rooftop patio made possible through philanthropy.
From alcohol to opioids, substance abuse disorders can destroy lives and livelihoods. Providence Everett offers medically-assisted inpatient and outpatient treatment options for those trying to escape the grip of addiction. Because of limitations on clinical space and provider availability, these services are not keeping up with the growing demand.
Every day, people walk through our doors in crisis. Providence Everett is committed to providing essential behavioral health services for our community, but we need your help to meet the growing need.
We invite you to help break down barriers so behavioral health care and substance abuse disorder treatments are readily available to all who need it. These patients can’t wait. There are so many ways you can help them.

“About a year ago my daughter was in crisis, and we were referred to the Behavioral Health Urgent Care clinic by her doctor. It made a huge difference. It is a much-needed and much-appreciated resource” . – Lake Stevens Mother
