Council’s Foreword

PLC has long held a place as a leader in high-quality girls’ education and remains firmly committed to continuing on this path.

Learning Takes Many Paths – We set a mandate to explore passion by democratising excellence.

While we can celebrate the success of the past and present, it is important that we also have a clear vision for our future, a road map for documenting how our students and the College will evolve and thrive. We regularly review and formalise this roadmap in the shape of our Strategic Plan, setting out our key focus areas as well as how each will be executed to achieve our goals.

Balance Defines Us – We ensure an open and diverse culture by unlocking an educated world view.

Our new Strategic Plan, ‘Towards 2030’, outlines our priorities aligned with our values and held up by our four pillars. Lead Authentically – We recognise individual worth, placing our students before our reputation.

Principal’s Welcome

It is a pivotal time in PLC Perth’s 108-year history as we look to the future and plan for the areas that will make a difference in the education of our students.

PLC Perth has always been a passionate, purposeful, and progressive place to study, where students foster a love of learning in a caring and supportive environment.

The recent pandemic and rapid rise of AI technology have proven the world can change very quickly and therefore it’s essential that we continue to stay future focussed and true to our vision of preparing every student to be personally successful in an evolving world.

While we will always be careful to safeguard what our students need for life immediately after school, we will ensure we embed skills and competencies that our students and the world will need many years from now.

In our next stage, as we look towards 2030, we are pleased to share our priorities for the years ahead. At its heart, PLC Perth’s Strategic Plan – Towards 2030 is the combination of our character attributes and our four Strategic Pillars, and seeks to ensure our students thrive, now and in an ever-changing future.

Our Strategic Plan will lead us over the next five years and build on the ambitions and direction of our heritage. In the years ahead, we will continue to advance our world-leading education, supporting our students to achieve their potential. Cate Begbie Principal

PLC Perth Towards 2030

PLC Perth’s Strategic Plan is the combination of our four key character traits together with our four Strategic Pillars. These character traits represent the foundation upon which we build our educational philosophy and shape the future of our students. Bravery is the courage to face challenges head-on, to embrace new ideas, and to stand up for what is right. It is the willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone and explore the unknown, to persevere in the face of adversity, and to never give up on one’s dreams.

Strength is the resilience to bounce back from adversity, to learn from mistakes, the determination to achieve one’s goals, and the inner fortitude to face life’s challenges with grace and determination. Our character traits are not merely abstract ideals. We believe that by nurturing these traits in our students, we are empowering them to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and responsible global citizens.

Capability is the ability to acquire knowledge and skills, to think critically and creatively, and to apply learning to real-world situations. It is the power to identify and solve problems, to innovate and adapt, and to contribute meaningfully to society.

Our Strategic Pillars: Lead Authentically, Learning Takes Many Paths, Balance Defines Us, and Our Past Moves Us Forward, outline a comprehensive framework for cultivating these traits in our students, integrating them not only into our academic curriculum but also into our co-curricular activities, social interactions, and personal development programmes.

Compassion is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others’, to empathise, and to act with kindness and generosity. It is the foundation of respect, leading to a more just and compassionate world.

As we embark on this journey of shaping the future of our students and our school, we are committed to fostering an environment that empowers our students to become confident changemakers of tomorrow.

1. Lead authentically At PLC, everyone can lead. We nurture every student for who they are, and how they see themselves. Students are known, valued, and encouraged to lead themselves to pursue their individual passions. PLC consistently prioritises our students and we strive to support each student’s unique journey. We provide opportunities for our students to lead, to be led, to partner and to support their peers and local community.

Central to this pillar is ensuring all staff also feel valued, understood, and supported to thrive and develop professionally. We expect all staff to reflect upon and develop their own leadership styles and consider how they may change in various situations. This pillar is about exceptional teachers modelling, encouraging, and providing students with opportunities to develop their own effective leadership style.

Future Skills Our students develop future skills such as communication, collaboration, emotional intelligence, social influence, and proactive community building techniques.

2. Learning takes many paths We set a mandate to explore passion. When education stands as the preparation for a unique and varied existence, every student can be guided to see for themselves. That is where aptitude shows itself, through a modernist ‘why not’ attitude to the opportunities and possibilities of life. PLC students will be encouraged to embrace challenge and have a go; granting themselves permission to excel. We offer countless opportunities to discover things that students didn’t know they were

good at. We encourage our students to regularly try new things, to start something new, to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Our staff embrace life-long learning and explore their passions. We support staff to be agile; to continuously evolve their competencies and remain future-focussed. We model continuous learning and routinely challenge each other to engage with new approaches to teaching.

Future Skills Our students develop future skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, analysis, complex problem-solving, creativity, originality and systems thinking.

3. Balance defines us Empowering education, inspiring change. We are resolute in the belief that education, in and of itself, is where real privilege lies. That, regardless of circumstances, our students take advantage of that privilege to apply themselves to their full potential and to recognise that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves. We strive to unlock an educated worldview, and every day we value an open and diverse culture.

4. Our past moves us forward Our heritage informs our culture, and we protect our permission to evolve. PLC is a school where oversight and scrutiny go hand-in-hand with an evolutionary mindset. We know where we have come from and have a firmly held mandate to protect where our past has brought us – and where it will take us next. We look to our many extraordinary Old Collegians who inspire our current students to know what is possible. We are proud to come from a tradition of being brave, being bold,

and being confident in the decisions we make. Our students continue that tradition through their own agency and voice. They have the same duty to contribute to the making of a modern legacy. In holding our history and heritage in such high regard, our staff connect and contribute to our culture. Our actions reflect our values, and our values drive everything we do.
