2025 MIX TAPE

REPORT EDITORS’

This year has been extra special, as we celebrate the 110th anniversary of our school. Just as Retro Remix blends the old with the new, this milestone reminds us of how far our community has come, and how every student continues to add their own voice and spirit to our school’s long and colourful history.

Through this publication, we hoped to capture that sense of lasting community and celebration, creating something that reflects both the past and present. For us and for the rest of the Year 12 cohort, this marks the end of our high school journey. It is a moment to reflect on the friendships, challenges, and triumphs that have shaped us and celebrate the joy of being part of a community that has supported, challenged, and inspired us. For younger students, we hope that the 2025 Kookaburra feels as though it has been crafted not just by us editors and the staff, but by the entire school community. it feels like this yearbook has been put together by all of you, not just us and the staff. Whether you are just beginning your journey or preparing to finish it, we hope you can open to any page and feel connected to the energy and life of our school.

From the very beginning, the two of us shared the same clear vision for the Kookaburra which made working together feel natural and seamless. Planning layouts, selecting photographs, and capturing the essence of our school spirit has been a collaborative journey, and the process of bringing our ideas to life has been both rewarding and inspiring.

Our vision for the 2025 Yearbook was to create a complete collection of memories that we can all carry with us beyond school.

This publication would not have been possible without the endless support and encouragement that we received from staff along the way. We would especially like to thank Ms Dobson for her constant guidance and wisdom throughout this process; she has been the backbone of this year’s yearbook. We are also grateful to the teachers, photographers, and students who contributed their time, effort, and creativity to help bring each page to life. Your generosity and dedication have ensured that the Kookaburra truly reflects the vibrant spirit and values of our school.

Finally, to the graduating Class of 2025: as you close this chapter and step into the next, we hope this yearbook serves as a reminder of the friendships, laughter, and lessons that have shaped you here. Like the best retro remix, your future will be a blend of all that has come before with your own unique twist. Thank you for being part of 110 years of our school’s legacy and for contributing your own energy, passion, and character to this milestone. May your next adventures be even brighter, and may the memories captured in this yearbook always bring a smile

Report

In your view, how has PLC’s spirit shone through across the year – whether through events, day-to-day life, or the community as a whole?

The PLC spirit has been clear in the way our students and staff have thrown themselves into every opportunity this year. From the energy and pride of our House competitions to the creativity shown in our productions and exhibitions, there’s been a strong sense of community. On an everyday level, it’s in the small things — students encouraging each other in class, staff going the extra mile, families turning up in support. Together, these moments show a community that values effort, teamwork, and tradition, while also being willing to try new things and push boundaries.

What do you think makes PLC students unique?

What strikes me most about PLC students is the balance they manage to hold. They are ambitious and capable, but also grounded and supportive of one another. They’re prepared to work hard, to take risks, and to lead, but they do so with compassion and respect. That combination — of striving for excellence while lifting others up — sets them apart. It’s why they’re able to thrive across academics, the arts, sport, and service, and why they carry themselves with such confidence and humility.

What’s

one way you hope PLC continues to evolve in the coming years?

PLC has always valued tradition whilst embracing change, and I think one of the most important ways we can continue to evolve is in how we prepare students for a world shaped by technology and AI. These tools are already changing the way we live and work, and our role is to help students use them thoughtfully and creatively. That means giving them opportunities to engage with AI as a learning partner, building digital literacy into every aspect of the curriculum, and ensuring they understand both

the possibilities and the responsibilities that come with it. Alongside that, I’d like us to keep expanding our global outlook — through exchanges, partnerships, and digital collaborations — so our students graduate with the skills, adaptability, and perspective to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

What’s something you have always wanted to learn or try, but haven’t yet?

I’ve always wanted to get my skipper’s ticket and properly learn how to drive a boat. Living in Perth, with the river and the ocean right on our doorstep, it feels like such a natural skill to have. For me, it’s partly about the freedom and enjoyment of being out on the water, but also about learning something new that requires focus, responsibility, and confidence. It’s been on my list for a while, and I’d love to make the time to finally do it.

If you had to pick a theme song for your life, what would it be and why?

I’d probably choose I’m Still Standing by Elton John. It’s a song about resilience — about facing challenges, getting knocked down, and then getting back up stronger. For me, that captures the reality of leadership and life: things don’t always go smoothly, but how you respond makes all the difference. It’s upbeat, determined, and forward-looking, which is exactly how I try to approach my role and my life.

School

What’s one moment at this school that made you truly proud to be a PLC student?

As part of the cohort graduating in the 110th year of PLC, we feel extra grateful to be a part of the awesome PLC community. One moment that really highlighted this for us was this year’s Founder’s Day assembly. Getting to meet and hear from some of the amazing old collegians, as well as being surrounded by all the junior and senior school students was such an awesome experience, and the energy and inspiration in the room made us feel both sad to be leaving the school, and so proud to be a part of PLC.

What was your main goal as prefects at the start of the year, and do you think you achieved it?

Our main goals as prefects at the start of the year were to get everyone excited for upcoming events, boost everyone’s mood, and get everyone involved and feeling included in the awesome opportunities PLC offers. We wanted to make school events and assemblies more inclusive and exciting for the girls, as well as making this year as special as possible for our year group in our last year at school. We think we’ve done our best to achieve this, through our bubbly welcomes at assembly, being friendly faces to younger students and the overwhelming support we’ve received.

What’s a moment from working together over the past year that perfectly sums up your partnership?

What’s your final message to the younger years?

1. Have fun!! Try to stress less, what stays with you are the fun memories with your friends, not the stressful ones

2. Be kind to absolutely everyone and remember to smile to people in the hallways, it always makes a bigger difference than you think

3. Get involved while you can and try everything, don’t let the fear of embarrassment or “not being good enough” hold you back.

4. And be authentic, you are all such amazing people in your own ways so don’t shy away from being your true self. Surround yourself with people that make you happy.

Head & Deputy Prefect, Isla Everingham & Lila Jackson

A moment that perfectly sums up our partnership would have to be our raps at assemblies. Whether it’s writing speeches or planning initiatives, we always bounce of each other’s ideas and strengths and work together, while not taking ourselves too seriously and turning our teamwork into things that the whole school can enjoy. Although our raps took many long hours in the library, they were always worth it, seeing the smiles on all the younger years’ faces. We have definitely loved working together.

REPORT SCHOOL SENIOR

Watts Rebecca

What has been your most memorable moment working at PLC this year?

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed this year has been working closely with our Student Council. Isla and Lila, our Head and Deputy Head Prefects, have led some great initiatives, and it’s been rewarding to support them. Our House Captains have also brought new life to House Spirit with updates to the Carmichael House Cup points system. Ending the year with the House Cup announcement at Speech Night will be a great way to celebrate the spirit, teamwork, and energy that make our Houses so special.

What plans or hopes do you have for the

opportunities at PLC. Whether it’s joining a sports team, auditioning for a dance, or trying something new— being involved helps you grow, connect with others, and make the most of your school journey.

What is one thing you have learned from the students this year that you didn’t know before?

Every year, the Leavers Assembly is a chance to learn something new from our students, and this year didn’t disappoint. I discovered the “Chubby Bunny Challenge” and got to witness just how many marshmallows students—and staff—can fit in their mouths. It was a hilarious and memorable moment that reminded me

SCHOOL JUNIOR

Drabble Mrs Geraldine

What has been your favourite or most heartwarming moment in the Junior School this year?

One of the most heartwarming moments this year was watching our Year 1 students confidently lead their first assembly. Seeing their pride, courage, and joy as they spoke in front of their peers and teachers reminded me of the incredible growth that happens in these early years. It was a wonderful reflection of the nurturing environment we strive to create—where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

Another standout moment was our very first Festival of Learning. This inaugural event was a true celebration of our students’ inquiry journeys, for which every classroom transformed into an open gallery space. Families were invited to walk through and engage with the students as they proudly shared their learning. It was a powerful showcase of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in action—highlighting student agency, deep thinking, and meaningful connections across the curriculum. The Festival not only brought our community together, but also affirmed the strength of our inquiry-based approach and the joy of learning at PLC.

What is one thing you’ll always cherish about working with Junior School students?

I will always cherish the unfiltered curiosity and joy that Junior School students bring to each day. Their wonder at the world, their eagerness to learn, and their ability to find delight in the smallest things are constant reminders of why this work is so meaningful. They teach us to slow down, to laugh often, and to approach challenges with creativity and resilience. Walking from room to room, I see girls learning, collaborating, and thriving in their environment—it’s a privilege to witness.

“It was a wonderful reflection of the nurturing environment we strive to create—where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.”

What plans or hopes do you have for the Junior School in the future?

Looking ahead, I hope to continue fostering a culture in which every student feels a strong sense of belonging and purpose. I envision a Junior School that embraces innovation in teaching and learning, while staying grounded in values of kindness, respect, and community. I also hope to strengthen partnerships with families and the wider PLC community, so that together we can support each child’s journey in the most holistic way. I imagine our PLC Junior School leading the way in Concept-Based Inquiry Learning under the direction of the IB PYP—learning that truly prepares students for the future.

What is something you hope every Junior School student takes away from their time at PLC?

I hope every student leaves the Junior School knowing they are capable, valued, and brave. I want them to carry with them a strong sense of self-worth, a love of learning, and the confidence to be kind and courageous in all they do. If they remember that they were part of a community that believed in them, then we’ve done our job well.

What

is a childhood memory that always makes you smile?

One memory that always brings a smile is building cubby houses on our farm with my siblings using sticks, branches, and whatever else we could find. We’d spend hours creating our own little worlds, completely immersed in imagination. It reminds me of the importance of play, creativity, and the magic of childhood—something I see reflected every day in our students. Watching our girls enjoy the new Outdoor Learning and Play Space this year has been a highlight.

If your House had a mascot,

Firstly, I think the Lorax would be the perfect mascot for Baird House because of his orange colour and big bushy moustache. The Lorax is instantly recognisable, and he evokes positive vibes from all, which is Baird in a nutshell. He is symbolic of care through his love for the trees and his mission to care for the planet. He’s a team player who works with all the animals and people to save his home. Hardworking, persistent, empathetic and courageous; all qualities that embody what it is to be part of the

Why are you so proud to be

I have been Baird girl since Kindergarten and have always found Baird to be such a supportive House, where everyone works as a team to support our motto “participate and progress”. It has been so much fun working with Ms Venturi this year supporting students across all year groups, in sports, academics, and everyday school life. My mission was to make sure everyone felt included and seen and had the courage to try everything and I think Baird House really applied this throughout all events. I’m proud to be a part of a house is so team focussed.

What would you say to the Year 7s

Welcome to Baird! You’re joining a house full of support, friendship, and school spirit, where everyone is encouraged to get involved and try new things. Make the most of your time here, step up, try everything and bring that Baird House spirit to everything that you do. Time fly’s and you will make a bond with the bairdians that will make you feel so supported. To quote the Lorax; “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can

If your House had a mascot, what would it be?

If Carmichael had a mascot, it would be Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. He’s cheeky, full of energy, and always up for a challenge – much like our House during carnivals and competitions. Stitch might stir up some chaos, but at the core he’s loyal and fiercely protective of his ohana, or family. That sense of loyalty and care mirrors Carmichael perfectly: we look out for each other, back each other up, and celebrate together. And of course, Stitch is on the back of our Year 12 shirts, so really, he is already our mascot this year!

Why are you so proud to be

I’m so proud to be in Carmichael because of the way our House genuinely supports one another. It’s not just about winning – although we love that – it’s about the effort, the encouragement, and the sense of belonging that comes with being part of Carmichael. What makes us so special is how everyone contributes, whether it’s through competing, cheering from the sidelines, or helping to organise events. On the track, in the pool, or on Arts Day, the atmosphere is always one of unity and determination. We show up for each other, and that creates a community in which everyone feels valued and included. To me, Carmichael represents resilience, teamwork, and heart – qualities that go beyond competitions and stay with us in everyday life. That’s something I’ll

Welcome to the best House! My best advice is to get involved, no matter what it is. Even if you’re nervous or think you won’t be the best in something, give it a go. The more you participate, the more you’ll feel part of the House, and the more memories you’ll make. Don’t be afraid to wear your blue proudly, cheer until you’re out of breath, and throw yourself into everything. Carmichael is all about energy, spirit, and supporting one another. If your House had a mascot, what would it be?

Our mascot would be Lightning McQueen form cars. Lightning is ambitious and hard working. He starts as a young racer full of confidence, but he quickly realises that talent alone is not enough. Through his journey, he demonstrates that consistent practice, persistence, and self-belief are what lead to lasting achievements. Second, Lightning’s transformation highlights teamwork and friendship. Despite being a star on the track, he thrives when he values others: learning from mentors like Doc Hudson and supporting friends like Mater. This teaches us that collaboration and mutual respect make a group stronger, perfectly aligning with the spirit of Fergo. Lightning embodies resilience. He faces setbacks, from losing races to coping with the challenges of aging and change, but he never gives up. Instead, he adapts and uses his experiences to guide others. This resonated with Fergo as after this year, which has not been our best, we can learn and grow. Finally, Lightning is a fast car who loves to win and Fergo is speedy house on the track, in the pool and in the academic competitions,

If your House had a mascot, what would it be?

When my house tute and I were deciding what to put on the back of our Summers shirts, we became obsessed with Grimace- the purple McDonald’s mascot who had just returned with the famous Grimace shake. What began as a joke quickly grew into something everyone embraced.

I think Grimace represents more than just a funny character. His bright purple colour matches our house perfectly, and his silly, loveable energy reflects how Summers approaches everything: with fun, enthusiasm, and community. He reminds us that while we take competition seriously, we never lose sight of joy, humour and community.

How

has your perspective on learning and education evolved throughout your time at PLC?

Throughout my time at PLC, my peers and I placed a large emphasis on grades and striving to do well numerically. Although it is fantastic to do well on paper, my time at PLC has taught me that education and learning is more about the curiosity, resilience, and fascination with a topic. I have now come to understand that success is not just about one’s grades, it is about the skills and knowledge one acquires that can last

What

have you done to promote academics

this year?

This year, I have convened the Inter-House Academics event in Term 4, 2024 and co-founded the Mathematics Problem Solving Club for students in Year 7 and 8. Through both avenues, I was able to encourage students to have a deeper appreciation and curiosity about academics beyond the school curriculum, and create an enjoyable environment for those passionate about learning. My aim in this was to make academics more approachable, illustrating to students that participation and effort in the realm of academia is valuable for all.

What is the best piece of academic advice you’ve received and would like to pass on?

The best piece of academic advice I’ve received is aim for improvement, not perfection. Striving for perfection is unattainable, whereas improvement is realistic. Focusing on progress and being better than you were the day before is valuable, and seeing setbacks as a part of growth instead of something to fear is a mentality that we should all adopt.

What is your favourite subject and why?

My favourite subject is Chinese second language as it challenges me to think differently compared to my other science-based subjects. Chinese incorporates both logic and creativity, allowing me to learn an interesting yet fun subject. Beyond the classroom, Chinese has been a strong interest of mine considering the current global context and the ties Australia has with China. also like Chinese because it is a lifelong learning journey, not just something one abandons after

In your opinion, why are The Arts so important for everyone to be involved in?

I think The Arts are so important for everyone to be involved in as I believe that there is joy in the chaos of creativity. Forgot your lines? Improvise. Messed up your painting? Say it’s abstract. Tripped on stage? Say it was all a part of the act. The Arts teach you that perfection is overrated, and confidence comes from owning your mess-ups. The Arts is unmatched as you will go through a whirlwind of emotions in one go. You’ll laugh, cry, have probably a few too many emotional breakdowns, but come out of it with incredible stories to tell your future kids and memories to share with lifelong friends. So yes, The Arts are very important because they allow people be fully, unapologetically themselves and find a sense of belonging.

What was the most memorable moment in The Arts at PLC this year?

This year amongst the various arts moments, the one that definitely stood out was on Arts Day this year, performing in the Year 12 Act. Singing and dancing with all my friends for one of the last time was sad, but so fun and something I will always cherish. Additionally, watching the teachers absolutely commit to the Masked Singer on Arts Day. There’s something so special (and mildly unhinged) about seeing your favourite teachers in a crazy dinosaur inflatable costume belting out dua lipa. #Iconic.

How would you describe Arts Day in one sentence?

Arts Day is a loud, chaotic, dramatic day, covered in glitter and tears, filled with unforgettable memories and celebrated with nonstop laughter. If someone were to play you in a film about your life, who would it be and why?

I’d pick Jennifer Lawrence as she’s always up for a laugh and never lets the embarrassing moments get her down. She sings, loves the arts and is the perfect mix of baddie and “oops, I fell down the stairs” energy which I admire.

“The Arts are very important because they allow people be fully, unapologetically themselves and find a sense of belonging.”

What makes boarding at PLC so special?

Boarding at PLC is special because of the diversity within the year groups. Girls from across Australia and overseas come together to form one close-knit community. Everyone brings their own stories and perspectives, making daily life richer and more interesting. A highlight is the buddy programme, which pairs girls from different years. It helps younger girls feel supported and gives older girls the chance to be role models. The buddy system makes the Boarding House feel like one big family, where everyone looks out for each other.

What is the best thing about living with girls from around the world?

The best part of living with girls from around the world is learning about new cultures every day. From food, language, and traditions to different ways of seeing the world, we are constantly exposed to new perspectives that broaden our understanding. It’s always a chance to learn—whether it’s trying a snack from someone’s home country or hearing about their family traditions. These cultural exchanges make Boarding life vibrant and full of new experiences.

What is your favourite Boarding event?

My favourite boarding event is definitely the Year 12 Retreat. It’s a time when our whole year group comes together to bond, reflect, and create memories away from the pressures of school. The retreat gives us a chance to slow down and enjoy each other’s company, while also preparing us for life out of school. The activities are always meaningful, and the shared moments of laughter, teamwork, and reflection bring us closer as a group. It’s an event we all look forward to and one that makes Year 12 feel even more special.

What are the fun facts about the Boarding House that we might not know?

There are plenty of little things about the Boarding House that make it stand out. Year 12s get the bonus of double beds, which definitely makes the final year more comfortable. We also have a trampoline that everyone can use, and it’s become a popular spot to relax and hang out. One of the best parts is that we don’t have to do chores like we would at home, which makes life a lot easier. The hot chocolate machine—originally from the library—has found its permanent home with us and is now part of Boarding life. And every evening we have set times for homework, known as “prep,” which helps keep everyone on track with study.

What was your favourite memory from Junior School?

My favourite memory has to be the End-of-Year Assembly rehearsals! Every year, when those carpet squares appeared in the SRC, I knew the school year was coming to a close. The promise of the summer holidays and an increased abundance of candy canes and Christmas crafts made those hours making paper chains and colouring in even more enjoyable! Although I must give credit to my amazing teachers for their dedication to keeping us engaged!

How can we maintain and nurture relationships between the Junior and Senior Schools?

Shared traditions and celebrations! Get involved and updated with the happenings of each half of the school and put yourself forward to connect with the other side! How, you may ask? Talking! While teachers and parents are often telling you to stop talking, it’s the simplest solution to nurturing relationships between the junior and senior students. Whether it’s the Year 12s talking with the Year 6s before their big move over the road or creating a friendship with someone in a different year, you probably have more in common than you think!

What advice would you give to students starting Year 7?

Embrace challenges and opportunities! Over your time in the Senior School, you’ll be offered an endless range of opportunities, whether they be excursions, co-curricular activities, sports, arts, and everything in between! While you can’t do everything, try to make the most of the time you have and take a chance! You never know the jokes you’ll make, friends you’ll meet or accomplishments you’ll achieve when you start, but you will remember those memories forever! It’s also important to remember to embrace the challenges you face! Failure teaches better than success, and your errors show you exactly how to improve. It’s also important to start setting up some healthy habits. You don’t want to try to create positive study habits before your Year 12 exams or find a good school-life balance in the middle of Year 9! Start early, so that these skills come easily to you when they’re needed most!

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

The egg! All birds lay eggs, and the genetically mutated dinosaur that developed into chickens had to hatch out of something…

In your opinion, why is reconciliation so important at PLC?

Reconciliation is so important at PLC because it strengthens our community by building understanding, respect, and genuine relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. As a school, PLC is not just a place where we are educated, it’s a place where we learn how to be compassionate, respectful, and open-minded members of society. Learning about the importance of reconciliation gives our students the knowledge and empathy needed to acknowledge our shared history, celebrate the richness of the world’s oldest living cultures, and work together towards a fair and inclusive future. By embedding reconciliation into our everyday school life from classroom discussions to cultural celebrations we ensure that every student has the opportunity to grow into a person who will make a positive difference in the world beyond PLC.

Can you share with us an aspect of Indigenous culture that you love?

We both love the art aspect of the Indigenous culture. Throughout this year we have focussed on bringing Indigenous art into the school. Whether that was the close the gap footprints artwork, canvas mural with Saint Catherine’s, sea of hands, or the road mural, these small bits of art scattered around the school has brought meaningful stories to each corner of our school, and allowed us to express our deep love with Indigenous art.

What

actions can we each take

to bring about reconciliation in everyday life?

As Reconciliation Captains, we believe that the actions we can take for a better future in our community often start with the simplest things. It could be as easy as participating in important celebrations that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold, such as NAIDOC Week or National Sorry Day, to show respect and solidarity. It’s also about showing up for one another, supporting our differences, and creating spaces in which everyone feels valued. Another powerful step is to seek out opportunities to educate ourselves, whether that’s by attending community talks, visiting cultural exhibitions, or having respectful conversations about histories and experiences we might not have learned about before. For example, taking the time to learn the story behind the land you live on and acknowledging its Traditional Custodians at school assemblies or community events not only builds awareness, but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility for reconciliation.

We have used the same piece of paper for most Acknowledgments of County we have done this year! The paper literally lives in our

report captain’s

How do you contribute to the sustainability of our world?

I am not sure if I contribute to the world, but I certainly hope to make a global impact one day!

Since forever, I have had a passion for helping others. But in Year 5, I became passionate about reducing plastics going into the ocean after learning about plastic pollution at school. With the help of my mum, we started the Take3fortheSea surf lifesaving programme at the North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club.

Through this, I had the opportunity to meet influential people such as the founder of Plastic Free July and state and federal MPs and influence change by speaking at the Town of Cottesloe to lobby for a grant of $24,000 to help the program run over three years.

Service initiatives have enabled me to travel to wonderful places such as Christmas Island, Rottnest Island and Djarindjin (an Aboriginal community in the Pilbara) to run clean-ups, education sessions and help create positive and legislative change to eliminate litter and waste.

Most recently, I met Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and was asked to be an Australian Ambassador for the Youth Impact Council for Global Youth Impact.

Why do you feel everyone should get involved in service?

I think everyone has the ability to help change the world in positive ways- even if it is a small action… these small actions result in big changes if everyone does their part to help!

Every single one of your ideas can help shape a better future. You never know where a conversation and small action can lead, so I encourage you all to follow your passions and help others where possible (even if that’s just by getting a matcha in your Frank Green vs single-use cup).

Who are you inspired by and why?

Femke Bol: My ultimate inspiration… I encourage you to Google “Femke Bol 400m Olympics 2024” and watch her as she made one of the greatest comebacks in history! She is determined, hardworking, and so talented, and those are all the qualities I admire.

And of course, Nina Kennedy, a PLC Old Collegian who not long ago walked the same halls as I do. She showed me that I can reach my goals if I set my mind to it. I can do it. No matter how far-fetched it might seem, anything is possible (even an Olympic gold medal).

Why do you enjoy doing sport?

I have always been drawn to sports; playing sports, watching sports, pretty much anything to do with sport. It is such a wonderful way to keep your body and mind healthy, especially as you move through the Senior School and begin to balance a greater academic load. But for me, the main reason is the unforgettable friendships I’ve made across all my years of sport. In my experience, it is in fact, the mishaps along the way that strengthen your bond – my teammates and I often find ourselves laughing about times our coach went crazy when we couldn’t understand a simple drill for the hundredth time, or when the airline lost my hockey bag on the way to a tournament. These problems that seemed like the end of the world at the time make the funniest stories. I’m so grateful that sport introduced me to these teammates who have become my closest

Why is encouraging and supporting girls in sport so important to you?

Encouraging girls to play sports is super important to me as I believe it leads to learning so much about yourself and others. Sport teaches teamwork, leadership, communication, self-confidence, and so many other skills that are essential for everyday life. In my experience, I have found that sporting communities often provide you with so much support, and it can feel very special to say that you are a part of a club and have that sense of belonging. I love supporting girls to find their place and their people in sport; to find communities they will be a part of for life.

What opportunities

are there

for younger students to get involved in sport?

Luckily, joining a sport here in WA is never very difficult; it’s such an important part of our lifestyle. For our younger students, I would encourage you to make the most of every opportunity PLC offers – as you get older you will realise how rare it is to be able to join any sport from water polo to golf to athletics, with the click of a link giving access to all the coaches and equipment you could ever need!

Who is your biggest role model in sport and why?

It is hard to look past Olympic Gold medallist Nina Kennedy! Knowing that not too long ago she trained on the same PLC oval I walk across daily is crazy to think about. I will never forget watching her win gold in 2024 – such an inspiration for PLC girls.

2025 has been an incredible year of growth, progress, and connection for the PLC Pipe Band. From the very first rehearsal in Term 1 to our final performance of the year, the band has shown tremendous development in both size and spirit. We’ve welcomed several new members across both piping and drumming, and it’s been inspiring to see how quickly they’ve become part of our tight-knit community, the energy and enthusiasm within the band has never been stronger.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this year has been the sense of unity that has formed within the group. Through the morning practices, weekend and school performances, and plenty of laughs in between, we’ve built not just a band, but a team. Everyone has played a part in creating an inclusive and supportive environment. The friendships we’ve formed this year have made every rehearsal and performance more meaningful.

Musically, the progress we’ve made is something to be proud of. Our sound has matured significantly over the course of the year thanks to countless hours of focused practice, group work and hard work from out amazing tutors Mr McLaren and Ms Kirby. We’ve sharpened our technique, improved our tuning, and developed greater confidence in both solo and ensemble playing. Our performances at school events and public engagements have been outstanding, creating a stronger pride within the PLC pipe band.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to take the next big step in our journey, preparing to compete in many solo and pipe band competitions in 2026, including the prestigious Australian Pipe Band Championships. This will be a huge milestone for us, and while it will be challenging, we feel ready. With continued dedication, passion, and teamwork, there’s no doubt that the PLC Pipe Band will rise to the occasion.

As we wrap up 2025, we’re proud to be passing the torch to our incredible 2026 leaders. Their talent, drive, and commitment to the band are already clear, and we know they’ll guide the group into an exciting new chapter. The future of the PLC Pipe Band is bright and this is only the beginning and we hope you are all
