We would like to acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar People, the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather today. We pay our respects to their elders past present and emerging.
We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples gathered with us here today.
DIRECTORS NOTES
This play thrives on chaos and the Year 11 ATAR Drama students have met that challenge with enormous energy, courage, and creativity. Whether they’re portraying a Shakespeareobsessed method actor, a puppeteer, or a cat impersonator, each student has fully embraced the absurd with brilliant comedic timing, physical commitment and bold character choices. What makes this ensemble so special is not just their ability to make people laugh, but the dedication and heart they’ve brought to every stage of the process. From the tentative first read-throughs to the confident, layered performances you’ll see on stage tonight, their growth has been remarkable. They have collaborated generously, taken creative risks, supported one another, and brought a sense of play and purpose to each rehearsal. The rehearsal room has often been filled with noise, chaos and unexpected ideas—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
A production like this doesn’t come together without a village and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our backstage crew and creative team. Your quiet consistency, problem-solving and care have made the onstage madness possible. You’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that props, cues, lighting, sound and sanity have stayed (mostly) intact.
To our audience—thank you for supporting the arts and for joining us in celebrating the talent and humour of these wonderful students. We hope you enjoy the show, have a good laugh and leave feeling relieved that you didn’t have to cast this production.
