Presbyterian Ladies’ College presents...
AUGUST 7 / 8 / 9
PLC acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather today. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples gathered with us today.
I signed up for this production with the intent of trying something new And something new it has been I have had the privilege of working with a wonderously talented cast who have helped to bring this adaptation to life Being a director has taught me so much about leadership, problem solving and the gift of Excel I hope you all enjoy your adventure through our version of Wonderland and are inspired to try something new in your own lives Thank you for supporting this production and we know you’ll find this show to be as curious and comedic as Lewis Carroll intended
Being a director for this production has been such a special experience Watching everything come together from the first rehearsal to the final show has made me incredibly proud of what this team has created Every person involved has brought something unique and it’s been amazing to see how all those ideas and talents have turned into the amazing show we have I feel really lucky to have been part of it and I hope everyone enjoys the show as much as we’ve loved making it Have a good night
Joining the student-led production was a rewarding opportunity to step into a leadership role after performing in previous PLC productions It gave me a behind-the-scenes look at what it truly takes to bring a show to life from casting and scheduling to budgeting and creative problem-solving I learned how to collaborate effectively, navigate different perspectives and guide a team toward a shared vision This experience pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me grow into a more confident and capable leader
It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since this student-led journey began being chosen, meeting the director team, sharing ideas and choosing our show I’ve loved working with the cast, crew and my fellow directors Being part of PLC’s first student-led production has been a real privilege and I’m so proud of what we’ve created I hope you enjoy the show as much as I’ve enjoyed being part of it
Directing Alice in Wonderland with five other incredible directors has been a wildly interesting plunge into chaos But it’s the fun kind of chaos that teaches you patience, flexibility and how to truly collaborate This version, adapted by Jack Bradfield, doesn’t simply retell the classic tale It tears it apart and rebuilds it with sharp wit, bold imagination and a healthy dose of absurdity What you’ll see tonight is Wonderland reimagined: alive, unpredictable and a bit unhinged I hope you enjoy it!
Directing Alice in Wonderland has been an unforgettable experience I didn’t know what to expect, but what we created exceeded anything I imagined The cast and crew’s energy, creativity and commitment made every rehearsal a highlight Collaborating with such a talented team of student directors made the process even more rewarding While we had our share of debates, we always found common ground This production reflects the incredible hard work of everyone involved, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to share the journey with
This project was first imagined after our school had the privilege of hosting Future Anything, an organisation dedicated to helping young people turn their ideas into action. Their workshops sparked something powerful in our school community highlighting the importance of student agency and showcasing the incredible potential that emerges when students are trusted to lead their own learning through hands-on, group-based projects
Inspired by this experience, I began to explore how we could bring this philosophy into the Performing Arts in a meaningful way. The result is this student-led production an authentic, collaborative project where our students have taken full creative ownership From concept development and casting to rehearsals, staging and marketing, every element of this show has been shaped by the students themselves
I wholeheartedly believe this has been a gold-standard example of what student-led learning can look like in the arts. Time and time again, our students have demonstrated initiative, resilience, leadership and vision; skills that will serve them far beyond the walls of our theatre As staff, we have simply acted as mentors offering support, guidance, and encouragement while allowing the students' voices to remain at the heart of the process.
A huge thank you to Cate for her unwavering support of this initiative. Your belief in what’s possible when students and staff collaborate with purpose has been instrumental in bringing this project to life
To our incredible team of student directors: it has been a joy to work alongside you. Your passion, creativity, and commitment have been inspiring. I wish you all the very best as you continue your journey into the world of theatre and beyond. You've taken your first step with style and heart.
