EVERYONE REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST LOVE
For Graham Rahal, it was Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“It
was one of the reasons I fell in love with the sport, if not the main reason,” said Rahal, 36. “It was a place that means the world to me because of my family, my family’s love of the sport, our connection to the sport, where that evolved and developed.”
Rahal grew up in New Albany, Ohio, roughly an hour’s drive away from the 2.258-mile, 13-turn natural terrain road course in Lexington. A fondness for his home track was created through numerous memories, but nothing compares to the day he went to Victory Lane on August 2, 2015.
Story by Joey Barnes

Rolling off 13th in the No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) Honda, Rahal pushed through the field and, during his second stint of the 90-lap contest, made a judgement call to pit in an effort to not get held up by backmarkers. Right as he came in, the caution came out and provided the perfect stroke of luck to finish the job.
“I knew at that moment that we had won the race,” Rahal said. “I knew it because if given the opportunity to be up front, that we had more pace than almost anybody else. And so it all came together. I don’t know what else to say, but it all came together. It was pretty awesome.”
Rahal led a race-high 23 laps, fending off a furious challenge over the final seven laps by the late Justin Wilson en route to his

third career IndyCar Series victory and second of the season. The performance elevated Rahal to second in the championship standings at the time, just nine points off of Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya with two rounds remaining.
Although Rahal was unable to close out with strong enough results to overthrow the Goliath teams of North America’s premier open-wheel championship known as Andretti, Ganassi and Penske, there remains an immense amount of pride for how he and RLL battled.
“That year, we definitely took the fight to the big boys,” Rahal said. “I wish we could have finished the job. We went into that season finale really in the championship hunt. It didn’t pan out and we
“On a personal level, I rank it higher than any other win in my career, by a lot,”
finished fourth in the championship, but we certainly performed extremely well all year long.
“On a personal levelforever and still to this day, whether people realize it now with the struggles we’ve had lately - I had won races before, but that year validated to me that I belonged, that I could definitely drive to the level that was necessary to be
a consistent winner in IndyCar. It validated to me that I could compete with all the best that there was, and then I could beat them.”
And Mid-Ohio easily takes the cake as Rahal’s favorite among his six career victories.
“On a personal level, I rank it higher than any other win in my career, by a lot,” Rahal said. “I certainly would rank

it higher than probably anything else that could ever happen in my career. Yes, winning the Indy 500 would top that, okay, but not by much. To me, that moment, that day, everything that came to be of that, was as impactful and powerful as anything that’s ever happened in my life.”
A big reason for that was, with the exception of his wife, Courtney, every
member of Rahal’s familysisters, brother, etc. - were present that day.
“In that regard, it was a huge day for me,” said Rahal, who also took an SCCA Runoffs win at Mid-Ohio in 2006. “It was an amazing day to have everybody with me. That was an extremely powerful moment on a personal level.”
There was also the Steak ‘n Shake sponsor-
ship that wrapped Rahal’s Honda-powered entry, which included a unique firesuit stitched out for him to appear like a server from the restaurant chain. And that, too, had personal significance.
“I grew up legitimately, going to that Steak ‘n Shake in Mansfield,” Rahal said. “Every Mid-Ohio race weekend, I’d go to that exact Steak ‘n Shake. And when I won the race, they gave me a chocolate shake with M&M’s; that’s what I ordered every time I would go to Steak ‘n Shake. Every time. So, it felt like my life, everything had come full circle. As a young guy, that was super powerful to me. That moment meant a hell of a lot to me, so that’s pretty cool.”
The struggles RLL has endured over the past handful

of seasons has been no secret, with only one win (Christian Lundgaard at Toronto in 2023) to since the 2021 season. And one could argue it has been even more challenging for Rahal, who hasn’t won
INDYCAR, has seen an uptick in the organization’s performance this season.
“We are improving the cars,” Rahal said. “We gotta keep improving. I don’t think that we’re there yet as a team, but I feel like we’re closing the gap. It is one of the most confident I’ve been going into the summer in a long time in IndyCar.
With a winless drought hanging over Rahal’s head like a black cloud, what would be the significance of ending it at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on July 6?

However, the addition of Jay Frye, who was announced as RLL’s president in April after serving over six years as President of
“It would mean a lot,” said Rahal, who is set to make his 302nd series start at Mid-Ohio. “Less from the standpoint it’s at Mid-Ohio as is just to get the drought over at this stage. You know, that in and of itself has been really hanging over my head and difficult. Hopefully, we can get that done.
“Obviously, we’ve had pace at Mid-Ohio in recent years and stuff, anyway. It would be great to get that monkey off my back. There’s no doubt about that.”

BOBBY RAHAL
Photography by Dan R. Boyd
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and American Honda Motor Co., Inc. are honored to announce Bobby Rahal, the 1985 and 1986 INDYCAR race winner at the legendary Ohio track, as the honorary grand marshal of The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the All-New 2026 Passport on Sunday, July 6.
As grand marshal, Rahal will announce the most famous words in racing, “Drivers, start your engines!” as well as participate in pre-race ceremonies for the 90-lap NTT INDYCAR SERIES race at Mid-Ohio. The race will broadcast globally with live coverage nationally starting at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
Born in Medina, Ohio, and later a Dublin, Ohio, then New Albany, Ohio resident, Rahal’s connection to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course runs deep and is a long-standing one. In addition to his two INDYCAR wins at the track, the three-time INDYCAR SERIES champion finished on the podium a remarkable eight of his 16 career starts on his home circuit including in his last two races in 1997 and 1998.
Rahal has also won at Mid-Ohio as a team owner in 2015 with his son Graham Rahal taking the checkered flag at The Honda Indy 200 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The Rahal Letterman Lani-
gan Racing shop was once located in nearby Hilliard, Ohio in the same building which formerly housed Truesports Racing. Rahal drove for Truesports when entering the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series in 1982 and won the Indianapolis 500 with the Jim Trueman-owned team in 1986. The multiple motorsports hall of fame inductee is in a very select group of individuals who have won the Indianapolis 500 both as a driver and as an owner/entrant (2004 and 2020 as an owner).
“It’s a great honor to be the grand marshal for The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. Mid-Ohio played an important role in my personal and professional life,” said Bobby Rahal. “I went to the first ever race there with my father in 1962 and made annual trips there after that, sometimes twice a year. I got my first win at MidOhio in my SCCA class in 1974, won both IROC races I competed in there, won the Lumberman’s race and of course the two INDYCAR races in 1985 and 1986.
Rahal continued, “Being by (Jim) Trueman’s side when he bought the track in 1980 and winning the IMSA race with him in 1983 as well as winning the INDYCAR races there and seeing Graham win there in 2015 are some of my greatest memories at one of my favorite tracks.

It was a privilege to drive on such a great circuit all those years.”
Additionally, Jun Jayaraman, senior vice president, Manufacturing Management Center of Honda Development & Manufacturing of America (HDMA), will be this year’s honorary starter, waving the green flag to start the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race. Paul Dentinger, senior vice president, Purchasing & Supply Chain Center of HDMA, will be the trophy presenter to the podium finishers for post-race ceremonies.
“We are honored to celebrate Bobby Rahal’s many
racing accomplishments and his tremendous legacy at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course by naming him this year’s grand marshal. He’s a true motorsports icon from the Buckeye State,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “Thank you to Paul Dentinger and Jun Jayaraman for also joining us to serve in these honorary positions. Mr. Jayaraman, Mr. Dentinger and the thousands of associates from the nearby manufacturing and R&D facilities joining us next weekend will make this another memorable Honda gathering.”

DRIVING SCHOOL
You’ve been to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course a hundred times, but never have you had the chance to drive on track. Here’s your opportunity! The Mid-Ohio School has specialized programs for all types of drivers from the least experienced to the most experienced, and even options for sportbike riders.
FOR TEENAGERS:
Teen Defensive Driving
Providing driving techniques not found in a typical drivers’ education classroom, the Teen Defensive Driving Program puts students of all ages behind the wheel to learn skills that will be used for a lifetime. Students practice collision avoidance techniques, loss of control
recovery skills, bad weather maneuvers through emergency lane change, wet braking, and skid car drills. An instructor will be in the car only during the skid car drill. The Mid-Ohio School will provide Honda Civics for use during the program. On select dates, Double-Up Days will provide two students (teens and/or adults) the life saving skills
provided in a traditional Teen Defensive Driving Program for one price. Each participant will split the driving time in the car, but both will get to experience all of the classroom and defensive driving drills covered in the standard teen program format. Students will benefit from the “watch and learn” environment of a Double-Up Day. Many parents sign up for the Double-Up Day so they can participate and also bond with their teen.
FOR EXPERIENCED ADULT DRIVERS: High Performance Program
Learn why your vehicle performs the way it does and how to maximize that performance on the street for more driving enjoyment and to be prepared for any emergency situation.
Photography Courtesy of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
This program covers the physics and dynamics of precision driving then tests participant skills behindthe-wheel in intense off-track performance driving drills. The highlight of this entry level program includes approximately an hour-long, on-track lead/ follow lapping session at day’s end. Participants will also spend time driving a Honda S2000 roadster on the autocross course.
Advanced High Performance Program
Attack the same course that challenges the world’s top racers by breaking it down into smaller segments and repeatedly practicing those segments. Refine your new high performance skills, learn more precise lines and apply these during high-speed cornering and lead-follow lapping drills. The final step to open lapping includes overtaking techniques and instructor rides before taking the green flag for several hours of open lapping with controlled passing zones. All driving instruction takes place on the racetrack!
Lapping Program
Want more track time? We all do! The Lapping Program is the one for you. You will spend a full day lapping Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and see why the track is called the “Most Competitive in the U.S.” The highly experienced instructors will teach you not only the
fastest way around MidOhio, but also the race craft to get you to the checkered flag first!
OPEN TEST AND TUNE:
Street Cars
Have you always wanted to get your street-legal car on the track at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course? This is now the least expensive option! Each group will receive approximately three 20-minute Lead/Follow or Open Lapping sessions, depending on driver skill levels and track conditions. No SUVs, vans, or trucks are eligible to participate. No SUVs, vans, or trucks are eligible to participate.

USF2000 PREVIEW SCHRAGE LEADS THE WAY
Story by Jeremy Shaw // Photography by Gavin Baker Photography

The battle for this year’s USF2000
Presented by Continental Tire title has been anything but straightforward. However, with 10 of the season’s 18 races in the books prior to this weekend’s PFC Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio tripleheader, it seems to be boiling down to a three-way affair
involving VRD Racing’s Thomas Schrage and Teddy Musella, and Exclusive Autosport’s Jack Jeffers. It could have been so different. Indeed, the early part of the season for the middle step on the USF Pro Championships ladder was totally dominated by Liam McNeilly and the Jay Howard Driver Develop-
ment team. The talented Briton, who narrowly missed out on last year’s USF Juniors title and also impressed during a one-off USF2000 appearance in Toronto, came out of his corner swinging in 2025, winning five straight races at St. Petersburg and NOLA Motorsports Park. Unfortunately, McNeilly then

encountered some visa issues and hasn’t been able to return.
Instead, the door was left well and truly open, with Schrage (pronounced “shrag”) , a local favorite from Bethel, Ohio, and Jeffers, from San Antonio, Texas, leading the way through.
Two wins and a second from the past four races has catapulted Schrage into the championship lead, 27 points clear of Jeffers, heading into his home event. But even that hasn’t been all plain sailing. Schrage, who began as one of the title favorites after claiming three poles in the final six races of 2024, suffered a shoulder injury during the offseason which required surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation. He was far from fully fit when the championship began in St. Petersburg,
then compounded his difficulties during the lone qualifying session when he made a mistake and was obliged to start 19th for the opening race.
Schrage rebounded to finish 12th in Race One on the unforgiving streets before forging through to seventh in Race Two. He also struggled in the first of two qualifying sessions at NOLA Motorsports Park, but then fought back to finish third and begin a sequence of seven consecutive podium finishes –including his first victory at the Indianapolis Grand Prix road course and a second most recently at Road America, on his debut at the challenging Wisconsin road course.
Jeffers’ year has been somewhat different. He began as the closest challenger to McNeilly, finishing

second in each of the first three races, then mirrored Schrage by recording his overdue maiden victory at Indianapolis. Jeffers also looked to be a commanding force at Road America. He secured pole for both races, only to crash heavily in the opening race while fighting with Schrage’s teammate Musella.
The incident allowed Schrage through for the win with Musella taking second. Musella, from Orlando, Fla., went on to win Race Two and now lies just 36 points adrift of his teammate in the quest for a scholarship valued at over $405,000 to assist in graduation to the USF Pro 2000 ranks in 2026.
After winning the USF2000 title in each of the past two years with Simon Sikes and Max Garcia, Pabst Racing’s hopes of a threepeat seem to be receding, although Californian G3 Argyros, who won a chaotic finale last year at Portland International Raceway after lining up 14th on the grid, has garnered three podium finishes from the first 10 races. He currently lies fourth in the standings, three places ahead of highly rated rookie teammate Caleb Gafrarar, a multiple time karting champion from Charlotte, N.C., who impressed in a handful of UK Formula Ford events in 2024.
Three races will be on tap this weekend, and they are likely to prove pivotal to the title-chase.
Teddy Musella has come on strong recently for VRD Racing.

USF PRO 2000 PREVIEW GARCIA TAKES CHARGE AGAIN
Story by Jeremy Shaw // Photography by Gavin Baker Photography

Max Garcia was a commanding force last season for Pabst Racing in USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire. Despite a relatively mediocre weekend at Mid-Ohio when he finished only one of the three races on
the podium, Garcia went on to secure a scholarship valued at $458,400 to graduate to USF Pro 2000, the next step on the highly acclaimed USF Pro Championships openwheel driver development ladder. He was a deserving champion with a total of
five race wins and seven pole positions.
Twelve months on, the 16-year-old from Coconut Grove, Fla., seems poised to reprise the feats achieved by Matthew Brabham, in 2012/2013, and current NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers Kyle Kirkwood (2018/2019) and Christian Rasmussen (2020/2021) by securing consecutive championship titles.
Once again, Garcia came out of the blocks fast. He wasn’t quite able to match his streak of three race wins from the first three races from one year ago, but a runnerup finish and a victory from the opening two races on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., catapulted him to the points lead, which he has never looked like relinquishing.
Two weeks ago at Road America, Garcia garnered all three pole positions. He looked set for a clean sweep of the race wins, too, until a couple of rivals took advantage of a restart during the finale by drafting past on the long

straightaway heading into Turn One. He bounced back to take the lead, only for a clash of wheels to relegate him to fourth. Garcia wasn’t happy. But he was consoled by the fact he now holds a comfortable 72-point advantage heading onto the final six races of the 18-round season –doubleheaders this weekend at Mid-Ohio, followed by two more on the streets of Toronto, Canada, and the final rounds at Portland International Raceway.
While Garcia has his sights set firmly on another championship, and a scholarship valued at $681,500 to move on to INDY NXT in 2026, at least three other drivers still have aspirations of knocking him off his perch.
After 12 races, Canadian Mac Clark (Exclusive Autosport), Israeli Ariel Elkin (TJ Speed Motorsports) and another young Floridian, Alessandro de Tullio (Turn 3 Motorsport), are all blanketed by just 12 points.
Clark, who won the inaugural USF Juniors championship in 2022, has momentum on his side with a streak of six podium finishes from the seven most recent races. A first USF Pro 2000 victory continues to elude him, but Clark won a USF2000 race at Mid-Ohio in 2023 –along with another pair of third-place finishes – and he is extremely keen to set that record straight.

Exclusive Autosport’s Mac Clark is edging closer and closer to his first win.
USF2000
Champion Max Garcia is leading the way also in USF Pro 2000.

Elkin was unfortunate at Road America, hobbled by an electrical gremlin in both qualifying sessions which forced him to start deep in the field. But prior to that the USF Juniors
graduate had been on a tear with three wins in four starts. Sourcing the budget remains problematic, but if that can be rectified, Elkin will be a force this weekend.
De Tullio also has established his credentials, winning three times in the opening four races of the season.
Watch out, too, for VRD Racing’s Max Taylor, who won the 2024 USF Juniors championship and also finished a strong third in USF2000. Two weeks ago, Taylor claimed his maiden USF Pro 2000 win at Road America, joining former VRD racer Nikita Johnson as the only drivers to win on all three steps of the ladder – USF Juniors, USF2000 and USF Pro 2000.
Rookie Ariel Elkin has impressed in recent months.

USF JUNIORS PREVIEW WIDE-OPEN TITLE CHASE
Story by Jeremy Shaw // Photography by Gavin Baker Photography

The chase for this year’s USF Juniors
Presented by Continental Tire championship is finely poised. With exactly half of the season’s 16 races already in the books, the top four protagonists are separated by a mere 23 points, with 30 points up for grabs in each of the
remaining eight races, including this weekend’s PFC Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio doubleheader. Additional points are available for pole position, fastest race lap and leading most laps.
USF Juniors was introduced in 2022 as the first rung on the USF Pro Championships open-wheel driver development ladder,
which offers scholarships at every level to help bridge the gap between karting, at the grassroots of the sport, and the pinnacle, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis 500.
Leonardo Escorpioni, a 15-year-old Brazilian living in Windermere, Fla., currently holds a slender seven-point margin over second-generation racer Oliver Wheldon, 14, whose older brother Sebastian finished a close third in the 2024 championship before heading overseas to compete – and win – in the Italian Formula 4 Championship.
Escorpioni’s Zanella Racing teammate Ty Fisher, from White Rock, B.C., Canada, lies third in the points table, trailing VRD Racing’s Wheldon by just 12, with VRD Racing’s Miami,
Leonardo Escporpioni holds a slender USF Juniors points lead.

Two wins have highlighted Joao Vergara’s title challenge.

Fla.-based Brazilian Joao Vergara only four points further adrift.
Escorpioni has won three races to date, and only once has failed to finish on the podium. Wheldon, meanwhile, is still searching for that elusive first victory. He has come agonizingly close on numerous occasions and, like Escorpioni, has featured on the podium in seven of the eight races. Surely, his breakthrough must come soon?
Fisher and Vergara both have two wins under their belts. Their consistency
has been lacking just a little during the opening half of the campaign, but with a scholarship valued at almost $250,000 in the offing, which will ensure graduation to the next step on the ladder, USF2000, in 2026, the stakes are high.
Australian former Formula Ford frontrunner Liam Loiacono also is in the mix. The lead driver for Jay Howard Driver Development claimed his first win in the most recent race – also at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course – last month when he shared the top spoils with Vergara during a
“Fisher and Vergara both have two wins under their belts. Their consistency has been lacking just a little during the opening half of the campaign”
doubleheader event. It was enough to move him up to fifth in the title stakes, still only 40 points behind the leader, and ahead of young Finn Vilho Aatola, who has also impressed this year with DEForce Racing.
Other likely contenders will include Mexican brothers Rodrigo and Patricio Gonzalez, who also drive for DEForce Racing, while of the three young woman striving to make a breakthrough, Emma Scarbrough (InterMS), from Senoia, Ga., and Kaylee Countryman (Exclusive Autosport), from Chandler, Ariz., both recorded their first top-10 finishes last time out at Mid-Ohio. Local driver Maddie Colleran (Zanella Racing), from Hunting Valley, Ohio, also has aspirations of mirroring that feat this weekend.
Aussie Liam Loiacono was imperious in the wet last month at Mid-Ohio.
