O DEAR FANS,
n behalf of the Green Savoree Toronto team, welcome to the 37th edition of Toronto’s fastest festival, the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto! This event has a rich history dating back to the first one held at Exhibition Place in 1986 won by three-time INDYCAR series champion Bobby Rahal. No one has won this race more than Michael Andretti, with seven wins, and Scott Dixon leads the way amongst active NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers with four victories. It’s also been the site of some legendary Canadian triumphs with Scarborough native Paul Tracy’s two wins (1993 and 2003), and memorable podium finishes by James Hinchcliffe (Oakville) and Robert Wickens (Guelph).
This Toronto summer tradition would not happen without the leadership of Kim Green and Kevin Savoree and our team from Green Savoree Racing Promotions, promoters of the event since 2009, and the support of the Ontario Honda Dealers, Province of Ontario, City of Toronto and Exhibition Place. All of their commitments toward this event have been remarkable. We thank them!
It takes over 500 volunteers to keep the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto running smoothly. We are grateful to these volunteers, new and returning, for the commitment made to operating a successful weekend. The British Automotive Racing Club (BARC) - Ontario Centre has also provided critical support to the event since the beginning with trackside corner workers and safety personnel.
This year’s three-day experience promises a jam-packed lineup of off-track attractions with great food and beverage options across the festival site. The high-speed action includes Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES 90-lap feature and racing from USF Pro Championships Presented by Continental Tire (USF Pro 2000 and USF2000), Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin and Miata Canada Cup.
The event continues to proudly support Make-A-Wish Canada® as Your Ontario Honda Dealers Present Free Fan Friday returns for the 14th time. In lieu of paid admission on Friday, attendees can make a voluntary contribution to Make-A-Wish. To date, this initiative has raised a cumulative total of more than $1,000,000.
The community engagement activities continue with the 3rd Annual Rev & Run 5000 in support of the Parkdale Food Bank on Friday evening. Then, on Saturday night, the Ride The Track 2025, a cycling event returning for the second year, raises money for The Children’s Breakfast Clubs.
Our biggest appreciation goes to you, our fans. Without your passion and patronage, the Ontario Honda Dealer Indy Toronto would not happen. We hope you have a fun and memorable time once again!

COLTON HERTA

Colton Herta never lost confidence in being able to return to his winning ways in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
A HERTA
nd that steadiness finally paid off with an emphatic victory in last year’s Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place, ending a 40-race winless drought that lasted 799 days. The exclamation point was how he dominated the entire weekend, not only leading 81 of 85 laps in the Honda-powered No. 26 Andretti Global entry, but also setting the fastest lap in all three practice sessions and earning the pole. It was an unprecedented showing in the sport’s history.
Story by Joey Barnes // Photography by Green Savoree Toronto and INDYCAR Media

“Just to get a win that year was gonna be the goal,” said Herta, who finished ahead of teammate Kyle Kirkwood to lead an Andretti 1-2.
“I went winless in ‘23 and it was really frustrating for me. And so, to be able to turn it around there and get them the momentum, which eventually led to some really good results following that race, too. But to do it in Toronto is super cool because that’s an awesome event. It’s an awesome race. It’s a really cool one for us that I always get excited to go to each year.”
In many ways, though, the performance at the 11turn, 1.786-mile temporary street circuit wasn’t a total shock for the California
“I think that we can show that we could put it all together; leading every single session, pole and win and 1-2 for the team. It was just a perfect weekend from us.”
native. He came in having finished runner-up in 2022, and backed it up with another trip to the podium in a third-place effort in 2023.
“We’ve had good results and knew we had the ability to win,” he said. “It was just about putting it all together, and I think that we can show that we could put it all together; leading every single session, pole and win and 1-2 for the team. It was just a perfect weekend from us.”
Herta became the first Andretti-supported driver
to win in Toronto since Ryan Hunter-Reay in 2012. Michael Andretti, the founder—and now strategic advisor—of Andretti Global, was a master of the Canadian circuit, claiming seven victories during his driving career.
Perhaps what stands out more than Herta’s performance was Honda’s outright dominance on the day. The Japanese manufacturer swept the top seven finishing positions, courtesy of four different teams.
“It shows how strong Honda could be on

street courses last year,” Herta said. “It was pretty dominant at times and it seems to have continued. You look at this year and the opening eight rounds Honda has won every single one. It’s important to have the power behind you because that can make or break your day. It makes our job a whole lot easier when you have that.”
If that wasn’t already daunting for the competition, the 25-year-old Herta also pointed out part of why the teams powered by Honda, have taken a significant step forward this year.
“What’s really nice that you don’t always find is that they’re very receptive to feedback,” Herta said. “There’s really no arrogance at HRC US (Honda Racing Corporation USA). We tell them what we want

and they do their best to deliver that. There’s never really excuses or ‘We can’t do that’ or ‘We can’t do this,’ It’s ‘Let’s try to figure this out and see what we can do to fix your problems and help you guys out.’
“As a manufacturer, that’s what you really want: people that are pushing the boundaries of what you
need inside the race car and really able to go the extra mile to do that.”
Those elements will continue to be key in returning to Toronto, a circuit that has plenty of its own unique challenges that separate itself from other street events like Detroit and Long Beach.
“You have huge, really

bumpy concrete patches through the end of the lap that you need a really fast transitioning car, really at the front end,” Herta said. “But then you get onto the front straight and the back straight where it’s a lot smoother and a lot more straightforward corners, braking in a straight line, turning in and trying to get to power as soon as possible and as straight as possible.”
Breaking down the nuances of the track in that way also leans into the experience Herta has gained since entering North America’s premier openwheel championship in the final race of the 2018 season. One of the things he’s developed a likeness for is being “not comfortable” on street circuits, in particular, as the track discipline demands drivers to push the limit to the point of “knocking down the walls.” Simply put, the more he can get uncomfortable during a race weekend, the better he gets.
“Not to say that it’s easy by any means,” Herta said. “This is my seventh season, so I’ve done it a lot now. I understand a lot more how the weekend plays out, especially the race. We’re not pushing the whole time in the car during the race. There’s a lot of times where you’ll be saving fuel or whatnot.
“And there are times when you really have to push and put in qualify-

“And there are times when you really have to push and put in qualifying laps and really knock down the walls, basically, be right up against them everywhere.”
ing laps and really knock down the walls, basically, be right up against them everywhere. Understanding when I have to do that was a big part of my gain in street course racing. But it’s ever-evolving, so I still have to stay on top of it all the time and try to make myself better whenever I can.”
For Herta, who entered this year with nine career victories, averaging one per 11 starts, he’s eager to make it back-to-back wins
in ‘The 6ix’ but knows it’ll be a tough task.
“I wish it was as simple as saying just do the same again,” he said. “But how competitive it is, that’s not gonna be good enough this year. You have to just keep pushing forward, keep getting faster and whether that’s within yourself, within the car, understanding the hybrid more compared to last year and how we can make that benefit us is going to be a big thing.”

THE WAY SCHRAGE LEADS
The battle for this year’s USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire title has been anything but straightforward. However, with 10 of the season’s 18 races in the books prior to the Mid-Ohio tripleheader a couple of weeks ago, it seems to be boiling down to a three-way affair involving VRD Racing’s Thomas Schrage and Teddy Musella, and Exclusive Autosport’s Jack Jeffers.
Photography by Gavin Baker Photography
Thomas Schrage leads the points charge for VRD Racing.

It could have been so different, as the early part of the season for the middle step on the USF Pro Championships openwheel development ladder was totally dominated by Liam McNeilly and the Jay Howard Driver Development team. The talented Briton won five straight races at St. Petersburg and NOLA Motorsports Park before encountering visa issues which prevented his return.
Instead, the door was left well and truly open, with Schrage (pronounced “sh-rag”), from Bethel, Ohio, and Jeffers, from San Antonio, Texas, leading the way through.
Schrage began his season as one of the title favorites after claiming three poles in the final
six races of 2024, only for a shoulder injury during the offseason to require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation. He was far from fully fit when the championship began in St. Petersburg in March, then compounded his difficulties during the lone qualifying session when he made a mistake and was obliged to start 19th for the opening race.
Schrage rebounded to finish 12th in Race One on the unforgiving streets before forging through to seventh in Race Two. He also struggled in the first of
two qualifying sessions at NOLA Motorsports Park, but then fought back to finish third and begin a sequence of seven consecutive podium finishes, which included his first victory at the Indianapolis Grand Prix road course. Schrage won again at Road America – on his debut at the challenging Wisconsin road course.
Jeffers’ year has been somewhat different. He started out as the closest challenger to McNeilly, finishing second in each of the first three races, then mirrored Schrage by recording an overdue maiden victory

at Indianapolis. Jeffers also looked to be a commanding force at Road America. He secured pole for both races, only to crash heavily in the opening race while fighting with Schrage’s teammate Musella.
The incident allowed Schrage through for the win with Musella taking second. Musella, from Orlando, Fla., went on to win Race Two and moved into contention for a scholarship valued at over $405,000 to assist in graduation to the USF Pro 2000 ranks in 2026. Also in contention is Toronto’s own Anthony Martella who won earlier this year at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. After winning the USF2000 title in each of the past two years with Simon
Sikes and Max Garcia, Pabst Racing’s hopes of a three-peat seem to be receding, although Californian G3 Argyros, who won a chaotic finale last year at Portland International Raceway after lining up 14th on the grid, garnered three po-
dium finishes from the first 10 races. Argyros’ rookie teammate Caleb Gafrarar, a multiple time karting champion from Charlotte, N.C., who impressed in a handful of UK Formula Ford events in 2024, also has displayed promising pace.

Toronto’s homegrown talent Anthony Martella wins at Lucas Oil IRP on May 23.
Jack Jeffers twice finished on the podium on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

W GARCIA TAKES CHARGE
ith only four races remaining in this year’s title chase, starting with this weekend’s Continental Tire USF Pro 2000 Grand Prix of Toronto doubleheader, Max Garcia has his sights set firmly on becoming the fourth driver in the past dozen years to secure consecutive crowns – and potentially career-defining scholarships – in USF2000 and USF Pro
2000. Matthew Brabham was the first to do so in 2012/2013. Current NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers Kyle Kirkwood and Christian Rasmussen matched the feat in 2018/2019 and 2020/2021, respectively.
Garcia, from Coconut Grove, Fla., earned a runnerup finish and a victory on his USF Pro 2000 debut in early March on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., catapulting him to the points lead which

he has never looked like relinquishing.
Publishing deadlines dictated that this story be completed prior to the most recent pair of races at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Nevertheless, with a commanding 72-point advantage, Pabst Racing’s Garcia seemed on course to secure a second championship – and a scholarship valued at almost $600,000 to move on to INDY NXT in 2026. He led the field in
wins (four), poles (five) and fastest race laps (six) from the opening 12 races, and was the only driver to have completed all 314 laps.
Consistency is sure to be top-of-mind for Garcia once again this weekend, although there are several other contenders who aspire to knock him off his perch. All of them have nothing to lose.
Chief among them is Milton, Ont., native Mac Clark, who climbed to
second in the points table for the Exclusive Autosport team following a hat-trick of podium finishes at Road America. Clark established his credentials by winning the inaugural USF Juniors championship in 2022.
Israeli rookie Ariel Elkin was hobbled by an electrical gremlin in both qualifying sessions at Road America, which forced him to start deep in the field and precipitated three excellent recovery

drives, including a podium in the final race, for TJ Speed Motorsports. Prior to that the USF Juniors graduate had been on a tear with three wins in four starts. Sourcing the budget remained problematic, but if that can be rectified, Elkin will be a force this weekend.
Alessandro de Tullio, from Miami, Fla., also has displayed winning form with three visits to the top step of the podium in the opening four races of the season for Turn 3 Motorsport.
Watch out, too, for VRD Racing’s Max Taylor and a
pair of Jay Howard Driver Development drivers, Liam McNeilly and Nick Gilkes.
Taylor, who won the 2024 USF Juniors championship and also finished a strong third in USF2000, took his maiden win at Road America, joining fellow VRD racer Nikita Johnson as the only drivers to win on all three steps of the USF Pro Championships ladder –USF Juniors, USF2000 and USF Pro 2000.
Englishman McNeilly, who made a stunning USF2000 debut last year in Toronto, taking a pole and a second-place finish,
began this year on tear by winning the opening five races of the season. Unfortunately, visa woes prevented him from adding to that tally, but with his USF2000 title hopes in disarray, McNeilly has reset his focus and is expected to return this weekend at the more senior level as a teaser for 2026. He will be joined at JHDD by Gilkes, from nearby Richmond Hill, who won the Ontario Formula Ford 1600 Championship in 2021 and has competed successfully both in Europe and North America in subsequent seasons.
Max Taylor secured his first win at Road America.

The Mazda MX5 Miata is quite literally the most raced car in the world. In 2024 CASC-OR created the Miata Canada Cup to run as part of our regional racing series.
Story by Ted Michalos
T MIATA CANADA CUP SERIES
he Miata Canada Cup places cars in one of two classes: MCC1 for Miatas built between 1990 and 2005, NA and NB cars prepared to a very restrictive standard, and MCCU for any Miata which does not meet the MCC1 preparation rules. MCC1 cars are effectively equal which means the emphasis is on the drivers and their skill. The racing is incredibly close and very exciting.
The Miata Canada Cup attracts racers with all types
of experience. We have the older drivers that may have been racing for years, that are looking for a cost effective way to race. We have drivers that are new to motorsports, or are moving up from autoslalom and time trials, that are looking for a competitive racing series that won’t break the bank. It has also become a great place for younger drivers to transition from karts to cars. Some of our very fastest drivers have recently graduated from the karting community. It is something to see.
The cars are incredibly agile and in the right hands, incredibly fast. At the same time, a Miata is not intimidating, or over-powered. The series provides a very comfortable place to develop your racing skills. Everyone is welcome and because of the size of our grids, you can always find someone to race with when you race a Miata.
The Miata Canada Cup is also a great place to volunteer as a trackside official. Marshals, timers, scrutineers – all are needed to get the cars on track and by working for the series you may just have the best seats in house to watch the racing.
For more information about the Miata Canada Cup Series, or to get involved as a trackside official go to www.casc.on.ca.
