Corporation School teachers from Shenoy Nagar, Aminjikarai and Nungambakkam led by G. Thangaraj (sr. Teacher and District Coordinator of Chennai Green Corps) were seen playing Pallanguzhi, Bambaram, and etc in
Arumbakkam on March 29, a traditional Tamil game in the ‘bring back the fame of conventional Tamil games’ awareness program conducted by Tamizhar Ancestral Foundation. The indoor game is popular among children
and elders at home. It is encouraged for children mainly to learn basics of arithmetic and to improve the eye and hand coordination while playing. The interest towards the game is almost dwindling and TAF is now taking
all efforts to bring back the game in the midst of students studying in school, said K. Viswa, president of TAF. A senior teacher told Porur Times that efforts will be taken to hold interschool pallanguzhi competitions
from the next academic year. Teachers will also inculcate the significance of the games to the students during physical education periods every week. The president of TAF can be contacted at 98840 23824.
