Velammal felicitated silver medalists of Asian games-2018
Velammal Main School, Mogappair campus hosted a grand felicitation ceremony on September 8 to honour the young Silver Medalists of 18th Asian Games, August 27, 2018 held at Jakarta. Students of Velammal Main School welcomed the guests of honour with great zeal and enthusiasm. The remarkable athletes Arokia Rajiv, the silver medalist in 4x400 m relay and 21 year old Dharun Ayyasamy who clinched silver in Men’s 400 m hurdles in national record time. Govindan Lakshmanan, the excellent long distance runner who gave a medal-winning performance in Men’s 10,000 m in Asian Games, 2018 also graced the occasion. Arokia Rajiv and Dharun Ayyasamy gave an inspiring and thought provoking speech and the students were greatly elated. Arokia Rajiv and Dharun Ayyasamy, the Silver Medalists of Asian Games besides Govindan Lakshmanan, the athletes were felicitated and honoured with a cash award of Rs. 2 Lakhs each.
Discourses on Bhagavad Gita Swami Satyaprabhananda will give weekly discourse on Bhagavad Gita (in Tamil) from 5.30 p.m. on September 16 (Sunday) at Vivekananda Hall, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, 3, M.S.Salai, T.Nagar. All are welcome.

Essay competition for senior citizens Nandini Voice for the deprived, a Chennai based non governmental organization is organizing an essay competition for senior citizens to describe their thoughts and share their perspectives on the life that they have led and how to make up for the lost opportunities in the rest of their life. The objective of the competition is to provide an opportunity to the senior citizens above 60 years of age to express themselves . Their views would help in providing the guidelines for shaping the future plans for youngsters , when they have the time and opportunity to do so. Highlights of the thoughts of the senior citizens would be published for the benefit of all concerned. Essay can be written in English or Tamil. Essay should have maximum of 1500 words. Last date for submission of essay is September 30,2018. Best of five entries will be awarded prize.
