Alpha Arts and Science College celebrated Annual Sports Day

The 21st Annual Sports Meet 2019 of Alpha Arts and Science College (Porur) was held on Feb 27 in the college premises.

S.Kevin Ananda Raj, Indian Fisttball Head Coach was the chief guest

for the event. Principal, Dr. D. Ashalatha, Vice Principal, Geetha Ravi and Coordinator of Shift II, Purnalakshmi were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.

Sports Day began with

an invocation seeking the blessings of the almighty.

This was followed by the welcome address by V. Bhuvanash Kurmar, III BCA, Sports Secretary (2018-19). Chief Guest S. Kevin Ananda Raj

delivered the inaugural address highlighting the merits of sports and declared the sports meet open.

The events began in style with the muchanticipated March Past

by students of all the 4 Houses -Shakespeare, Shelly, Shaw and Spencer, the NCC and Sportspersons led by the respective House Captains and Vice Captains.

Velammal student bags first prize in Tennis tourney

Ravilla Kumar Krithi, Std. 6 of Velammal Main School, (Mogappair campus) participated in the State Level Inter School Tennis Tournament–2019 held at SDAT Tennis Academy from 23.2.19 to 24.2.19 and bagged the 1st prize among 100 players in the U-12 and U-14 category.

She was awarded two trophies and a gift voucher worth 10,000.

It was organized by Marina Sports Academy.

Vedanta Academy celebrated Annual day

The First Annual day was celebrated at Vedanta Academy (CBSE)on Feb 22 with a lot of grace and gusto, spreading the vibrant colours of the globe.

The theme of the annual day was VRIKSHA - The International Year of Progress expressing that Nature holds the key to our holistic development which depends upon Physical, Mental, Emotional, Cultural and Social Enhancement.

P. Benjamin, Honourable Minister of Rural Industries and Development was the chief guest for the occasion.

The Chairman K. Ramadoss, The Director SundeepVasu, The Principal R. Pratheepa, other honourable members of the school governing body, distinguished guests and the parents also graced the occasion with their heartening presence.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp lending the occasion a ceremonious aura which was followed by an eclectic mix of cultural programmes.

State Conference held

Tamilnadu udavikkaram association for the welfare of differently abled (TNUAWDA), (Ashok Nagar) organised a two days state conference recently at Dr..Mgr Janaki Arts and science college for women R.A.puram.

The program was started with a grand procession Maatruthiranaaligal Pearani in which 1000 differently abled people all over Tamilnadu participated and took a walk from Adaar Aalamaram to the conference venue holding placards, which was flagged off by Mylapore MLA R. Natraj.

Dr. V. Saroja, Minister for social welfare distributed wheel chairs, motorised sewing machines and necessary supporting aids for self employment of the disabled.

On behalf of the association a Charter of 24 demands including raising of Monthly pension assistance to Rs. 3000 , extending free bus pass facilities to all categories of disabled persons in local buses, provide reservation to the spouse and children of the differently abled persons in both employment and education, to give full monetary benefits like gratuity, PF, pension benefits to the differently abled employees who have served in the State Government Departments / undertakings for 20 years, Filling up of Job Vacancies by special Drive etc., has been handed over to State Social Welfare Minister, Dr.V.Saroja, by the State General Secretary of TNUAWDA Aavin K. Gopinath.

Minister for transport M.R.Vijayabaskar released the Special souvenir of Udavikkaram which was received by Ex-Director of differently abled welfare department Dr. A. Pichai. Both the Ministers assured for taking steps to consider the demands favourably at the earliest besides extending all possible Help.

MLA of Mylapore constituency R. Natraj inaugurated the associations new website www.udavikkaram.org and distributed Udavikkaram awards and life time achiever awards to the differently abled achievers and social workers served for the cause of the disabled.

T.A.P.Varadakutti, State President of TNUAWDA explained about the various service activities of the association since 1982.

Experts from Various Departments and Organisations serving the cause of Differently Abled delivered their address. N.Panchapakesan, Conference Advisor appealed to one and all to avail the benefits of the new Website. N. Ravi conference Committee Chairman, M.B. Nandakumar, State Treasurer and other office bearers have made the entire special arrangements for the conference.

World Peace Minutes

Neighbourhood residents association celebrated Sports day

Lakshminagar Extention Welfare Association (Porur) celebrated 39th anniversary of Sports Day on Feb 24.

V. Jayalakshmi (Gold Medalist in Asia’s Games and competed in Olympics 2000 at Sydney, Australia) was distributed the prizes for children and all residents of winners.

Organizing secretary Palaniappan,(Senior optometrist) organized the amazing show.

Bhaskaran (President), Munuswamy (Secretary), Balaguru (Treasurer) and Sureshkumar(Sports committee head) were present in the event.

Heartfulness Institute hosted an event for Rotary Club Madras Midtown of Rotary International to celebrate the World Peace Minutes coinciding with Rotary’s World Peace Minutes and Understanding Day. Two global organisations met on the evening of Feb 23 at Heartfulness Center, Chennai.

The theme of the event was World Peace through one’s inner peace. The guest of honour of the event was Rtn Krishnan Venkatachari, a Rotarian since 1983. He was the Caring District Governor 1997-98 of RI District 3230. Chari is the Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 6, comprising countries in South Asia since July 2005.

The event was attended by Rotarians and their families, students and members of the Heartfulness Institute. It was also telecast live for worldwide audience.

Rotary Club Madras Mid Town President Rtn.Narayanan Dandapani had welcomed the participants and narrated the importance of World Peace Minutes and thanked Heartfulness Institute to support the cause for the well being of people in the society with the mutual trust and respect for harmonious living.

The meditation session was followed by unveiling of the Book Designing Destiny written by Rev. Daaji, The Global Guide of Heartfulness Institute. The book highlights how it is possible to design the destiny of Humanity by starting with the self and expanding to the entire humanity which can include each and every one in the world.

Guest of Honour Rtn. Krishnan Venkatachari has emphasised the need for peaceful society and well appreciated the heartfulness institute’s selfless service to humanity to teach meditation practices with love and care.

There was a demonstration of how to tap into the brains infinite resources by using certain brain techniques by the program called The Brighter Minds. Kids from the Brighter Mind workshop presented the whole brain activity and it was a scintillating experience for the participants assembled.

The event was well received by the participants with worldwide viewing.

In connection with National Science Day, Science Expo was held on Mar 2 in Velammal school campus.

A wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths projects were displayed. The display of Hydroponic farming was the eye catcher of the day.

The other attractions were the effects of artificial rain, vibrating robot, Hydraulic bridge, improvised ambulances to arrest traffic congestion, automatic rain water harvesting, Automatic street sweeper, Treasure island with Mathematical numbers, Solar Train, Smart city, Fire Alarm, Geothermal energy, Automatic street lights etc.

It was a memorable day for the parents and students. The expo was an opportunity to the students to explore the innovation in them.
