‘Thingal Thorum Thirumurai’

Sri Krishna Sweets jointly with Uravu Surangam and Prestige Bellavista Tamil Sangam organizes ‘Thingal Thorum Thirumurai’ as part of ‘Naal Thorum Nalathu Seivom’ at Prestige Bellavista in Kattupakkam on every fourth Saturday by Prof. Dr. Ulaganayagi Palani on ‘Thirumurai’.

Jayshree Prakash, Social activist was given ‘Nallor Virudu’ by industrialist Malar Selvam who presided over programme in presence of Prof. Dr. Ulaganayagi Palani, President, Uravu Surangam.

Thirumurai in anthology supersedes Sangam literature, which is predominantly secular in nature.

The entire Thirumurai is in viruttam meter or lines of four. The principal characteristics of the head-rhyming is influenced both by syllabic and moric prosody.

Thirumurai along with Vedas and Saiva agamas form the basis of Saiva Siddantha philosophy in Tamil Nadu.

Thirumurai is a twelve volume compendium of songs or hymns in praise of Shiva in the Tamil language from the 6th to the 11th century by various poets in South India.

Nambi Andar Nambi compiled the first seven volumes by Appar, Sampandhar and Sundarar as Thevaram during the 12th century.

Dr. Ulaganayagi Palani spoke on ‘Eleventh Thirumurai’ explaining the meaning in detail.
