Mum puts ‘I do’ top of to-do list By CAROLINE STRAINIG
MOTHER of two Kathy Schleibs and her longtime partner Kelvin Hetherton will get married in Port Macquarie on Easter Saturday. There’s nothing unusual in that, but there is in their circumstances, which is why there will be plenty of tears as well as laughter on the big day. After winning a battle with cervical cancer, Kathy, who is only 42, found out last week that the irritating little cough she developed a few weeks ago is lung cancer, even though she has never smoked. The prognosis is serious and while Kathy will do her utmost to fight the cancer she is also doing everything she can to make the most of every precious second. Top of her list was marrying Kelvin, 47, her partner of many years and the father of her two grown-up children. “It’s something we always planned to do ‘one day’ but things got in the way,” Kathy said.
