Million$ may go Safety design changes rejected by Council By NIKALA SIM A MULTI-MILLION dollar upgrade and establishment of a much-needed youth facility and service, will not happen, if our local government continues to be obstructive, its project partner says. Substantial investment of $2.8 million from the Commonwealth Government, $2.5 million from the State Government and $750,000 from Police-Citizens Youth Club NSW (PCYC) has been pledged for the upgrade of the Port Macquarie Sports Stadium. The entire $6 million is contingent on the joint partnership of the PCYC and Council, and may be in jeopardy, after last Wednesday’s ordinary Port Macquarie-Hastings Council meeting. A motion to reject minor design changes was endorsed, leaving the PCYC in a position where it could not support the project in its current form, Chief Executive Darren Black said. “The current design goes against the principles of design that create a safe youth space,” Mr Black said. “There are three entry and exit points and we have asked for one. “We have also asked for some walls to be removed and ceilings to be raised to create more open space so youth can be easily seen and monitored.
