IT’S time to grab the Aussie flag, anything blue and red you can lay your hands on, and get set to celebrate all that being an Australian means. The fun kicks off on Sunday, January 25, with the announcement of Australia Day-awards nominees and overall award winners at a special free event at 6.30pm in the Glasshouse theatre in Port Macquarie. Twenty nine citizens and 11 community groups have been nominated – all of whom have an outstanding list of achievements to their names. On Monday, January 26, which is Australia Day itself, there will be major celebrations in Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Laurieton. In Port Macquarie the fun kicks off at 8am on Town Green with a market, jumping castle and face-painting, with children’s games planned from 10am. The Sing Australia choir, the Hastings Municipal Town Band, the Bago Magic Performance Group and the Black Magic swing band will ensure there’s plenty of music to get us all in the right mood. Sailability NSW’s Port Macquarie branch will be conducting aquatic activities along the river from 10.30am until 2.30pm, and Marine Rescue vessels will be on display at Lady Nelson wharf, and a display of vintage fire engines and other vehicles at Town Green. At 2.45pm the Hastings District Highland
