2025 – UNE ANNÉE D’AMBITION POUR LE POLO FRANÇAIS
Après une année 2024 marquée par les Jeux olympiques et le Paris Games Polo Challenge USA vs FRANCE, la Fédération française de polo poursuit sur sa lancée en 2025 avec une volonté affirmée : faire rayonner le polo français sur la scène internationale.
Dans cette dynamique, la Polo Nations Cup revient pour une troisième édition exceptionnelle, qui réunira sept nations issues de trois continents – l’Europe, l’Amérique et l’Océanie – du 12 au 22 juin.
Véritable temps fort du calendrier international, les vingt-cinq matchs programmés offriront une formidable opportunité de rencontres, de progression sportive et de valorisation du polo tricolore. Ce tournoi contribuera à faire émerger de nouveaux talents et à consolider le haut niveau français.
La première Ladies Polo Nations Cup est également un succès, avec six équipes représentant cinq nations.
L’Équipe de France féminine disputera un test match le 21 juin contre la Grande-Bretagne à Londres, une nouvelle illustration du dynamisme du polo féminin emmené par son directeur technique national Mathieu Delfosse.
Dans la foulée, un autre moment fort attend les passionnés : le 27 juin, l’équipe de France affrontera le Brésil lors d’un test match international, symbole des liens sportifs croissants entre nos deux nations et véritable tremplin pour les grandes échéances à venir.
La Saison du Brésil en France 2025 présentera plus de 300 événements à travers le territoire, incluant diverses manifestations dont le polo.
Parmi les autres temps forts, les Championnats d’Europe, organisés en Pologne du 30 août au 7 septembre, constitueront un objectif majeur pour l’équipe de France. La France y défendra ses ambitions face aux meilleures nations du continent.
Enfin, cette année marque une étape essentielle dans la préparation des grandes compétitions internationales à venir, notamment la défense de notre titre aux Championnats du monde d’Arena polo en 2025. Le Polo Club de Chantilly et la Fédération Française de Polo inaugureront le terrain fédéral d’Arena Polo exceptionnel, mesurant 165 par 75 mètres, grâce au soutien de l’Institut de France, du Fonds Éperon, de la Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne, du département de l’Oise, de la région Hauts-de-France, du Conseil des Chevaux des Hauts-de-France et de généreux donateurs.
L’ouverture officielle de l’Arena Polo se déroulera du 3 au 6 juillet 2025, avec les phases de qualification européennes des Championnats du monde d’Arena polo.
Ces défis exigent de la rigueur, de l’engagement, de l’excellence et de la générosité, valeurs que la Fédération s’attache à promouvoir au quotidien auprès des joueurs et de leur encadrement.

After a 2024 marked by the Olympic Games and the Paris Games Polo Challenge USA vs FRANCE, the French Polo Federation continues this momentum into 2025 with a
mighty goal: to launch French polo onto the international stage.
As part of this goal, the Polo Nations Cup is taking place for a momentous third edition, bringing together seven nations from four continents – Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania – from June 12th to the 22nd.
A true highlight of the international calendar, the twenty-five matches scheduled present a formidable opportunity to meet others, progress the sport, and promote French polo. This tournament contributes to the emergence of new talents and to cementing a France’s high level of polo.
The first Ladies Polo Nations Cup marks another success, with six teams representing five nations.
The French women’s team will play in a test match in London on the 21st of June against Great Britain, illustrating the new dynamism of women’s polo as exemplified by their national technical director, Mathieu Delfosse.
Amidst the busy schedule, another great opportunity awaits: on the 27th of June, the French team will come up against Brazil in an international test match. This contest not only represents the athletic ties that link our two countries together but is also a springboard for the exciting things to come.
The 2025 Season of Brazil in France boasts more than 300 events across the country, including various polo experiences.
Among other highlights, the Champions of Europe, taking place in Poland from August 30th to September 7th, constitutes a major objective for the French team. France will defend its goal against the best nations on the continent.
Finally, this year marks an essential step in the preparation for the big international competitions to come, notably the defense of our title as World Champions in Arena Polo in 2025. The Polo Club of Chantilly and the French Polo Federation will inaugurate the Federal Polo Arena, measuring 165m by 75m, thanks to the support of the Institut de France, Fonds Éperon, the Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne, the department of Oise, the region Hauts-de-France, the Conseil des Chevaux des Hauts-de-France, and generous donors.
The official opening of the Polo Arena will unfold from the 3rd to 6th of July 2025, during the European qualifying stage for the Arena Polo World Championship.
These challenges exemplify the rigor, the engagement, the excellence, and the generosity of French polo – values that the Federation dedicates itself to instilling in players and staff every day.

n quelques années, la Polo Nations Cup a su trouver sa place dans le calendrier international. Imaginée pour mettre en lumière la diversité des nations du polo dans un esprit de compétition mais aussi de convivialité, elle accueille cette année trois piliers historiques de ce sport : l’Argentine, la Grande Bretagne et l’Australie. Une preuve de plus, s’il en fallait, que Chantilly est devenu un carrefour de rencontres sportives et humaines.
Cette compétition s’inscrit pleinement dans les valeurs fondatrices du Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, créé en 1995 par notre regretté Patrick Guerrand-Hermès : excellence sportive, ouverture internationale, et surtout, amitié entre les peuples.
Pendant dix jours, du 12 au 22 juin, les terrains de Chantilly verront s’affronter dix équipes venues de sept pays. Quatre d’entre elles porteront les couleurs françaises – Normandie, Occitanie, PACA et Paris – dans un esprit de compétition, bien sûr, mais aussi de fierté nationale.
Parmi les figures attendues cette année : Matias Torres Zavaleta, régulier de l’Open de Palermo, les frère Simon et Ramiro Zavaletta qui ont un titre à défendre ou encore les frères Fanelli pour l’Italie. D’autres noms retiennent aussi l’attention, à commencer par ceux de nos jeunes professionnels français, issus du club, dont le talent ne cesse de s’affirmer : les étoiles montantes que sont Elouan Badarello, Dorian Bulteau ou Jules Legoubin, mais aussi ceux qui, grâce à l’engagement fidèle de leur capitaine Jean-Claude Le Grand, composent une des formations les plus suivies du tournoi : Edouard Pan, Louis Jarrige et Julien Reynes, futurs portedrapeaux du polo tricolore à l’occasion du test-match France–Brésil. Sans oublier le n°1 français, Pierre-Henri N’goumou qui défendra les couleurs… britanniques !
Et désormais… une Polo Nations Cup au féminin
L’essor du polo féminin est l’un des marqueurs les plus enthousiasmants de ces dernières années. De l’Argentine aux États-Unis, en passant par la France et la Grande-Bretagne, tous les grands Open ont aujourd’hui leur pendant féminin. Il était donc naturel qu’un tournoi comme la Polo Nations Cup ouvre à son tour une nouvelle voie. Cette première édition féminine, que nous accueillons avec enthousiasme, complète pleinement l’esprit d’ouverture et de modernité que nous souhaitons cultiver à Chantilly.
Grande nouveauté cette année : la création de la toute première Ladies Polo Nations Cup, un tournoi exclusivement féminin qui vient enrichir la dynamique de cette semaine internationale. Six équipes, représentant cinq nations – la France (avec deux régions), l’Irlande, le Danemark, Israël et le Luxembourg – se disputeront le titre du 18 au 22 juin.
Cette première édition accueillera quelques-unes des meilleures
joueuses d’Europe et d’Amérique du Sud, à l’image de l’Argentine Milagros Sanchez (Normandie), d’Ambre Ploix (Hauts-de-France), ou encore de l’Irlandaise Siobhan Herbst, épaulée par Sarah Wiseman. Le Luxembourg misera sur un collectif solide emmené par Paloma Lauro, avec les trois championnes de France en titre et issues de notre club : Charlotte Garaud, Margaux Perruchot et Adèle Renauldon. Tout est réuni pour que ce tournoi féminin s’inscrive dès cette première édition dans les grands temps forts de la saison.
Le succès de cette compétition tient à la qualité du jeu, mais pas uniquement. Il doit également à ce que le polo incarne de plus rare : un art de vivre, un esprit de club, une communauté soudée et ouverte. Si les joueurs reviennent chaque année à Chantilly, c’est autant pour ses installations que pour son atmosphère.
Je tiens à remercier chaleureusement tous ceux qui rendent cela possible : notre directeur Philippe Perrier, son bras droit Adrien Legallo, et l’ensemble des équipes – visibles comme de l’ombre – qui font vivre ce club au quotidien.
Que cette troisième édition soit une fête du sport, du polo et de l’élégance.

In just a few short years, the Polo Nations Cup has established itself in the international calendar. Designed to celebrate the diversity of polo-playing nations in a spirit of both competition and conviviality, this year it welcomes three historic pillars of the sport: Argentina, Great Britain and Australia. This is further proof, if proof were needed, that Chantilly has become a crossroads for sporting and human encounters.
This competition embodies the founding values of the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, established in 1995 by the late Patrick Guerrand-Hermès: sporting excellence, international openness, and above all, friendship between peoples.
From 12 to 22 June, ten teams from seven countries will compete on the Chantilly fields. Four of these teams will be representing France, Normandy, Occitania, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) and Paris, and will be competing in the spirit of both competition and national pride.
Among the great players expected this year are Matias Torres Zavaleta, a regular at the Palermo Open; the Zavaletta brothers, who have a title to defend; and the Fanelli brothers, representing Italy. Other players attract-
ing attention include our young French professionals, who have come through the club and whose talent continues to grow. These include rising stars Elouan Badarello, Dorian Bulteau and Jules Legoubin. Thanks to the loyal commitment of their captain, Jean-Claude Le Grand, they make up one of the tournament’s most closely watched squads: Edouard Pan, Louis Jarrige and Julien Reynes who are also the future flag-bearers of French polo as they will be playing the France-Brazil test match. And let’s not forget France’s number 1, Pierre-Henri N’Goumou, who will be playing for … Britain!
And now ... a Ladies Polo Nations Cup!
The growth in popularity of women’s polo is one of the most exciting developments in recent years. From Argentina to the United States and everywhere in between, all the major Open tournaments now have a women’s counterpart. It is therefore only natural that a tournament like the Polo Nations Cup breaks new ground as well. We welcome this first women’s event with enthusiasm; it fully complements the spirit of openness and modernity that we wish to cultivate at Chantilly.

A major innovation this year is the creation of the inaugural Ladies Polo Nations Cup, an all-women’s tournament that will add to the excitement of this international week. Six teams representing five nationsFrance (with two regions), Ireland, Denmark, Israel and Luxembourg - will compete for the title from 18 to 22 June.
This inaugural event will showcase some of the finest players from Europe and South America. Among them are Argentina’s Milagros Sanchez (Normandy), Ambre Ploix (Hauts-de-France), and Ireland’s Siobhan Herbst, supported by Britain’s Sarah Wiseman. Luxembourg will rely on a strong team led by Paloma Lauro and including three reigning French champions from our club: Charlotte Garaud, Margaux Perruchot and Adèle Renauldon. Everything is in place to make this the first women’s tournament of the season.
The success of this competition is not only due to the quality of the play. It is also due to precious qualities polo embodies so well: a way of life, a club spirit, and an open, close-knit community. Players come back to Chantilly every year as much for its facilities as for its atmosphere.

Ce jeudi 29 mai, le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly accueillait la finale tant attendue du Trophée de l’Aire Cantilienne.
Les communes de Vineuil/Avilly et Coye-la-Forêt, se sont affrontées dans un match intense, sous un ciel clément et devant un public conquis.
Anne Lefebvre, maire d’Avilly-Saint-Léonard, Élodie Angeles-Guesnet et Loïc Bizeau, élus de Vineuil-Saint-Firmin représentaient François Lanceraux, maire de Vineuil-Saint-Firmin et supportaient l’équipe de Vineuil/Avilly.
François Deshayes, maire de Coye-La-Forêt Nathalie Lambret, adjointe au maire et les élus du conseil étaient présents pour supporter Coye-la-Forêt.
Jean-Michel Dagniaux, maire d’Apremont, Florence Woerth, Roger Potin Vesperas, vice-présidents de l’Aire Cantilienne, Claude Van Lierde, maire-adjoint de Chantilly étaient également présents.
Le match a tenu toutes ses promesses, avec un score serré jusqu’au dernier chukker.
Finalement, après un suspense haletant, c’est Vineuil/Avilly qui s’est imposée sur le fil, remportant le trophée sur le score final de 4 à 3. Une victoire célébrée dans un esprit de fair-play et de camaraderie, à l’image des valeurs de la Communauté de Communes.
RDV l’année prochaine pour la remise en jeu du Trophée de l’Aire Cantilienne qui nous l’espérons deviendra un tournoi incontournable de la saison de Polo!
On Thursday, May 29th, the Polo Club of the Domain of Chantilly hosted the much-anticipated final of the Aire Cantilienne Tournament. The communes of Vineuil/Avilly and Coye-la-Forêt, profiting from the beautiful weather, battled each other in an intense match in front of a captivated audience.
Anne Lefebvre, the mayor of Avilly-Saint-Léonard, Élodie Angeles-Guesnet and Loïc Bizeau, elected officials of Vineuil-Saint-Firmin representing François Lanceraux, the mayor of Vineuil-Saint-Firmin, supported the team from Vineuil/ Avilly.
François Deshayes, the mayor of Coye-La-Forêt, Nathalie Lambret, assistant to the mayor, and elected counselors were present to support Coye-la-Forêt.
Jean-Michel Dagniaux, the mayor of Apremont, Florence Woerth, Roger Potin Vesperas, vice-presidents of Aire Cantilienne, Claude Van Lierde, deputy-mayor of Chantilly were also at the match.
The match surpasses its expectations, with a tight score just until the last chukker. Finally, after a gripping suspense, Vineuil/Avilly won by a hair’s breadth, taking the trophy with the final score of 4 to 3. The victory was celebrated in a spirit of fair-play and camaraderie, the image of the values of the Communauté de Communes.
Please come next year for the first throw-in of the Aire Cantilienne Tournament, which we hope will become an irreplaceable contest for the polo season!

L’Argentine débarque à Chantilly avec l’un de ses tout meilleurs joueurs, Matias Torres Zavaleta, habitué de l’Open de Palermo, qui dispute cette année sa première saison en France. Il retrouvera les frères Simon et Ramiro Zavaleta (sans lien de parenté), tenants du titre avec l’Occitanie, qui ont fait appel cette année au jeune Elouan Badarello (20 ans), grand espoir du polo français.

UNE PREMIÈRE ÉDITION FÉMININE AMBITIEUSE
Grande nouveauté cette année : la création de la toute première Ladies Polo Nations Cup, avec six équipes représentant cinq nations – la France (avec deux régions), l’Irlande, le Danemark, Israël et le Luxembourg.
Comme dans toutes disciplines équestres où hommes et femmes ont l’habitude de se confronter, le polo n’échappe pas à la règle –en témoignent les capitaines Françoise Okala et Isabelle Larenaudie, qui dirigent chacune une équipe engagée dans le tournoi mixte. Parallèlement, le polo exclusivement féminin connaît un essor remarquable, avec des compétitions dédiées qui se multiplient. Du 18 au 22 juin, la première édition de la Ladies Polo Nations Cup promet de belles confrontations. La Normandie sera renforcée par Milagros Sanchez, joueuse argentine ayant participé à l’Open d’Argentine. L’autre formation française, représentant les Hauts-de-France, comptera sur Ambre Ploix, l’une des trois meilleures joueuses tricolores.
L’Irlande sera menée par Siobhan Herbst, avec une équipe complète (joueuses et chevaux) épaulée par l’Anglaise Sarah Wiseman. Enfin, le Luxembourg, emmené par Paloma Lauro, a misé sur un collectif bien rodé, en réunissant les trois championnes de France en titre : Charlotte Garaud, Margaux Perruchot et Adèle Renauldon. Une cohésion précieuse qui pourrait faire la différence.
La major new addition this year: the creation of the very first Ladies Polo Nations Cup, featuring six teams representing five nations – France (with two regional teams), Ireland, Denmark, Israel, and Luxembourg.
As in all equestrian disciplines where men and women regularly compete against each other, polo is no exception – as demonstrated by captains Françoise Okala and Isabelle
Larenaudie, each leading a team in the mixed tournament. At the same time, women’s polo is experiencing remarkable growth, with dedicated competitions multiplying across the globe. From June 18 to 22, the inaugural edition of the Ladies Polo Nations Cup promises thrilling matchups. Normandy will be reinforced by Milagros Sanchez, an Argentine player who has competed in the Argentine Open. The other French team, representing Hauts-de-France, will rely on Ambre Ploix, one of the top three French female players.
Ireland will be led by Siobhan Herbst, with a full team (players and horses) supported by English player Sarah Wiseman. Finally, Luxembourg, captained by Paloma Lauro, is banking on a well-established team, bringing together the reigning French champions: Charlotte Garaud, Margaux Perruchot, and Adèle Renauldon – a valuable cohesion that could make all the difference.

Understanding a polo game: what you need to know
Il n’est pas toujours évident de rester concentré face à un spectacle sportif qui se tient sur un immense terrain couvrant plus de quatre fois la surface d’un terrain de foot : deux-cent-soixantequinze mètres par cent-quarante-cinq, soit quatre hectares ! Les choses deviennent plus claires si l’on comprend qu’il s’agit, pour les quatre joueurs de chaque équipe, de marquer le plus de buts possible (appelés goals en polo où, côté règlement, tout est anglicisé). Des principes qui peuvent tenir en quatre mots ou presque : changements, arbitres, ligne et pénalités.
It may not be easy to stay focused on a sports competition held on a huge field covering more than four times the surface of a soccer field: two hundred and seventy-five meters by one hundred and forty-five, that is to say four hectares! Assuming that one understands that the four players of each team must score as many goals as possible (also called goals in French because as far as rules are concerned the wording is mostly in English), the game becomes more obvious once one gets to know some of the basics. These principles can be summed up in four words: changes, referees, line and penalties.

Dans un souci d‘équité (qualité du terrain, position du soleil), à chaque goal marqué, les équipes changent de côté.
For the sake of fairness (quality of the field, position of the sun), at each goal scored, the teams change sides.
UmpiresARBITRES
Les arbitres sont deux sur le terrain et à cheval. En cas de litige, un troisième homme, le «referee», suit le match assis une chaise haute depuis le bord du terrain et tranche entre les deux «umpires» en cas de désaccord.
The two referees on the field are called umpires, they are both on horseback. In case of a disagreement, a third man, called the referee, who follows the game from a high chair at the edge of the field will decide between the two umpires.
LA LIGNE
The line
Quelle est la raison la plus courante des interventions des arbitres ? La violation de la sacro-sainte « ligne »… « ¡La línea! » entendrez-vous souvent crier (c’est un euphémisme) par les Argentins. Cruciale et prise de tête, cette fameuse ligne. C’est la règle de base du polo, fondée sur la sécurité. Quand un joueur frappe la balle, la ligne imaginaire qu’il a créée entre lui et la balle lui appartient. Interdiction formelle pour l’adversaire de couper cette ligne sous peine de sanction. Le couloir créé par cette ligne entre les deux joueurs est impénétrable.
What is the most common reason for referee intervention? The violation of the sacrosanct «line»... «¡La línea!» you will often hear Argentines shout (this is a euphemism). This famous line is as crucial as it is contentious. It is the basic rule of polo, based on safety. When a player hits the ball, the imaginary line he has created between him and the ball belongs to him. It is strictly forbidden for the opponent to cross this line or he will be subject to sanctions. The corridor created by this line between the two players is impenetrable.

S’ENSUIT UNE
Les pénalités, selon l’emplacement et la gravité des fautes commises, se tirent à 60, 40, 30 yards ou même «sur place», même à 10 cm des goals, si la faute a été commise entre les 30 yards et la ligne des goals. Un corner (lorsque le défenseur sort volontairement la balle derrière la ligne des goals) se tire comme une pénalité, à 60 yards en face de l’endroit où est sortie la balle. Lors d’une pénalité ou d’une remise en jeu, le premier adversaire doit se tenir à au moins 30 yards du joueur tirant cette pénalité ou cette remise en jeu.
Penalties, depending on the spot and severity of the fouls committed, are taken at 60, 40, 30 yards or «on the spot» - even if only 10 cm from the goals - if the foul was committed between the 30 yards and the goal line. A corner kick (when the defender voluntarily takes the ball out behind the goal line) is taken as a penalty, 60 yards in front of where the ball went out. On a penalty or drop ball, the first opponent must be at least 30 yards from the player taking the penalty or drop ball.
The chukker
LE CHUKKER
Le chukker correspond à une période d’un match (sept minutes plus trente secondes pour qu’un arrêt de jeu mette fin à la période). Un match de polo compte au minimum quatre chukkers et au maximum huit (cinq pour la Polo Nations Cup). Les Argentins parlent de chukka et en France, on peut se contenter du mot période.
The chukker refers to a playing period of a match (seven minutes plus thirty seconds to allow for a playing action to finish). A polo game has a minimum of four chukkers and a maximum of eight (five for the Polo Nations Cup). The Argentinians speak of chukka, the French may call it a period.

Understanding the player’s numbers
Chaque équipe est composée de quatre joueurs… qui peuvent être des joueuses ! Chacun d’entre eux (d’entre elles) porte sur le maillot un numéro bien visible qui correspond à un rôle bien précis au sein de l’équipe. Aucun de ces joueurs ne peut être gaucher. Obligation de tenir le maillet dans la main droite.
Each team is made up of four players, male or female, as polo is a mixed sport. Each of them has a number on the jersey that corresponds to a specific role in the team. None of these players can be left-handed. The mallet must be held in the right hand.
N ° 1
Le numéro 1 est l’attaquant, le cavalier qui joue « en pointe » lorsque l’équipe est en phase offensive, c’est-àdire qu’elle se dirige vers les goals adverses. Dans les matchs européens, où sont mélangés amateurs et professionnels, c’est en général l’amateur qui est ainsi envoyé au devant pour récupérer les longues balles que le pro est plus apte à envoyer.
The number 1 is the attacker, the rider who plays at the forefront when the team is in an offensive phase, i.e. heading towards the opponent’s goals. In European matches, where amateurs and professionals play together, it is usually the amateur who is sent to the front to recover the long balls that the pro is more able to shoot.
N ° 3
Le numéro 3 est le pilier de l’équipe, c’est par lui que passe tout le jeu et notamment son rôle, notamment, est de monter la balle et de la passer à ses attaquants, en général par de longs coups, mais également en dribblant. Dans les équipes pro-am, c’est habituellement le joueur au handicap le plus élevé.
The number 3 is the pillar of the team, all the game goes through him. Mainly, his role is to get hold of the ball and to pass it to his attackers, generally by hitting long shots, but also by dribbling. In pro-am teams, this is usually the player with the highest handicap.
N ° 2
Le numéro 2, soutient cet attaquant et relaie les balles envoyées par le n°3, ou 4. C’est un rôle confié en général à l’un des deux joueurs le plus fort de l’équipe en matchs pro-am.
The number 2 supports this attacker and passes on the balls sent by the number 3 or 4. This role is usually given to one of the two strongest players of the team in pro-am matches.
N ° 4
Le numéro 4 est l’ultime rempart de l’équipe quand celle-ci est attaquée. C’est le « back », en général un joueur solide, rapide qui monte des chevaux de la même trempe, n’ayant pas peur des contacts. C’est lui qui arrête le premier attaquant, en général, le n°1 adverse. De même, le n°3 marquera le n°2 et inversement (1-4, 2-3, 3,-2, 4-1). Mais parfois la situation de jeu fait que ces rôles peuvent être échangés le temps d’une action, l’essentiel étant que chaque joueur ne lâche jamais un adversaire.
The number 4 is the team’s last line of defense when it is attacked. Called the «back», this player is usually strong and fast who rides horses of the same type and is not afraid of contact. He is the one who stops the first attacker, usually the opposing n°1. In the same way, the n°3 will mark the n°2 and vice versa (1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1). But sometimes the situation of the game provokes a redistribution of these roles at least for the time of a particular action, most importantly each player has to stay with an opponent player, to “stay with his man”.
RETOUR À CHANTILLY : FRANCE – BRÉSIL, 20 ANS
Le 27 juin prochain, presque un an après le match “olympique” France – États-Unis, le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly accueillera une nouvelle affiche de prestige : France - Brésil. Cette rencontre s’annonce d’autant plus prometteuse que le Brésil, deuxième nation la plus titrée au monde derrière l’Argentine, compte huit podiums en douze éditions de championnat du monde de medium-goal, dont trois victoires (1995, 2001, 2022). Face à elle, la France, qui signait en 2004 l’une de ses plus belles performances en atteignant les demi-finales, aura à cœur de s’illustrer à nouveau devant son public. Ce test-match international se disputera au niveau officiel des championnats du monde, entre deux nations qui ne s’étaient plus croisées depuis… vingt ans.
Vingt-et un ans exactement. C’était donc en 2004, lors du Mondial organisé à Chantilly – une édition restée dans les mémoires tant par son rayonnement médiatique que par son succès populaire : plus de 21 000 spectateurs, un public très international, ont assisté à l’événement. La France y signait un parcours exceptionnel, atteignant les demi-finales après avoir éliminé les États-Unis, avant de tomber face au Brésil, alors champion du monde en titre. Ce jour-là, la Seleção du polo imposait son tempo (9–4), avant de remporter une nouvelle couronne mondiale face à l’Angleterre, au terme d’une finale intense disputée devant 7 000 spectateurs, conclue en période supplémentaire sur un goal contesté (par les Anglais surtout) de Pedro Henrique Ganon. La France terminait à une très belle quatrième place, son meilleur classement à ce jour, après une défaite contre le Chili dans la petite finale.Le retour du Brésil à Chantilly, vingt ans plus tard, a donc tout d’un symbole. Trois fois titrée, huit fois médaillée en douze éditions, la nation sud-américaine est l’une des grandes références dans l’histoire du championnat du monde de medium-goal. L’équipe 2025 sera redoutable, avec notamment la présence du handicap 7 Joao Paulo Gannon. La force de la France reposera sur la cohésion d’une équipe composée de quatre joueurs qui se connaissent parfaitement : ceux d’Eternal J, qui évoluent ensemble depuis plusieurs saisons. Un pari sur la collectivité, un peu à l’image du Paris Saint-Germain !Ce match de gala offrira à l’équipe de France une occasion idéale pour affirmer ses ambitions, se confronter à l’une des meilleures écoles du monde et, peut-être, raviver l’esprit de 2004.Une confrontation sportive… et culturelleAu-delà de la compétition, cette soirée incarnera aussi l’esprit d’échange et d’amitié entre les cultures. Ce France–Brésil s’inscrit ainsi dans un contexte plus large de dialogue franco-brésilien, illustré ces semaines-ci par plusieurs temps forts artistiques en région parisienne : des œuvres monumentales d’Ernesto Neto au Grand Palais à la première exposition en France du peintre Lucas Arruda au musée d’Orsay, en passant par les photographies engagées de Sebastião Salgado, Frans Krajcberg et Rodrigo Braga au Jardin d’Agronomie Tropicale, également lieu d’une exposition croisée des artistes Fabiana Ex-Souza et Felipe Shibuya.Enfin, les protagonistes auront l’occasion de prolonger cette immersion en découvrant les collections du Musée Vivant du Cheval, abrité dans les somptueuses Grandes Écuries du Domaine de Chantilly.
On June 27th, nearly a year after the “Olym pic” match between France and the United States, the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly will host another prestigious encounter: France vs. Brazil. This match promises to be especially exciting as Brazil, the second most decorated nation in the world after Argentina, has claimed eight podium finishes in twelve editions of the medium-goal World Championship — including three titles (1995, 2001, and 2022). Facing them, France — which achieved one of its finest performances in 2004 by reaching the semi-finals — will be eager to shine once again in front of its home crowd. This international test match will be played at the official level of the World Championships, between two nations that haven’t faced each other in… twenty years.
Twenty-one years ago exactly, in 2004, the World Championship was held in Chantilly – a tournament remembered both for its tremendous media impact and its popular success: over 21,000 spectators, a highly international audience, attended the event. France delivered an exceptional performance, reaching the semi-finals after eliminating the United States, before falling to Brazil, then reigning world champions. That day, the Brazilian Seleção set the pace (9–4), and went on to win another world crown against England in an intense final played in front of 7,000 spectators, concluded in extra time with a contested goal (especially by the English) by Pedro Henrique Ganon. France finished in a very respectable fourth place, its best result to date, after a loss to Chile in the bronze final. Brazil’s return to Chantilly, twenty years later, is therefore highly symbolic. With three titles and eight medals in twelve editions, the South American nation remains a major reference in the history of the medium-goal World Championship. The 2025 team will be formidable, notably featuring 7-goaler Joao Paulo Ganon. France’s strength will lie in the cohesion of a team composed of four players who know each other perfectly: the Eternal J squad, who have been playing together for several seasons. A collective approach, somewhat reminiscent of Paris Saint-Germain! This gala match will offer the French team an ideal opportunity to assert its ambitions, confront one of the world’s best polo schools, and perhaps revive the spirit of 2004. Beyond the competition, the evening will also reflect the spirit of exchange and cultural friendship. Polo, more than just a sport, is a lifestyle rooted in encounters. This France–Brazil match fits into a broader context of Franco-Brazilian dialogue, illustrated in recent weeks by several major artistic events in the Paris region: monumental works by Ernesto Neto at the Grand Palais, the first French exhibition of painter Lucas Arruda at the Musée d’Orsay, and the socially engaged photography of Sebastião Salgado, Frans Krajcberg, and Rodrigo Braga at the Jardin d’Agronomie Tropicale—also the site of a joint exhibition by artists Fabiana Ex-Souza and Felipe Shibuya. Finally, players and guests will have the opportunity to continue this cultural immersion by exploring the collections of the Living Museum of the Horse, housed in the magnificent Great Stables of the Domaine de Chantilly.

ÀUNE NOUVELLE ARENA POUR UN POLO PLUS ACCESSIBLE... ET PLUS DURABLE
Apremont, le chantier touche à sa fin : une grande arena, dédiée au polo sur sable, sort de terre. Elle s’apprête à devenir un nouvel outil de référence pour la discipline en France, et bien au-delà. Avec ses dimensions exceptionnelles (160 x 75 m), elle s’annonce déjà comme la plus vaste carrière en sable non couverte d’Europe spécialement conçue pour le polo.
L’arena polo, discipline cousine du polo classique, se joue sur un terrain réduit, avec des règles légèrement adaptées. Elle se pratique avec plusieurs chevaux par joueur, comme sur herbe, mais permet des formats de jeu plus courts et plus dynamiques, qui séduisent un public toujours plus large. Cette arena permettra également la pratique du paddock polo, version encore plus accessible de ce sport, pratiquée avec un seul cheval par joueur ; un format qui se développe notamment dans les clubs affiliés à la Fédération Française d’Équitation.
Aux États-Unis, l’arena polo représente déjà la moitié des licences actives, notamment grâce à son ancrage dans les universités et les écoles. L’Angleterre, l’Argentine et la France, première nation sacrée championne du monde dans cette discipline, suivent le mouvement, avec une ambition commune : rendre le polo plus accessible, plus formateur et plus durable.
C’est dans cet esprit qu’a été pensé ce projet porté par la Fédération Française de Polo et le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly. Implantée à Apremont, au cœur d’un territoire où l’équitation fait partie intégrante du paysage, cette arena offrira une large palette d’usages : terrain d’expression pour les joueurs professionnels et amateurs, site d’accueil pour des stages jeunesse à l’échelle locale, et support pédagogique pour les établissements scolaires des Hauts-de-France. Elle pourra aussi accueillir des événements d’entreprise ou des disciplines équestres voisines.
L’arena se distingue également par ses choix techniques : un sol fibré dernière génération couplé à un système de subirrigation, qui réduit la consommation d’eau de 70 %, pour une gestion plus responsable des ressources. Une plateforme surélevée a également été intégrée pour accueillir le public et les partenaires.
Dès l’été prochain, le site accueillera les qualifications européennes pour les Championnats du monde d’arena polo, et la France est officiellement candidate pour en organiser la phase finale en 2027. Ce nouvel équipement renforce ainsi le pôle équestre cantilien, déjà reconnu à l’international.
Soutenu par le Fonds Éperon, la Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne, le Département de l’Oise et la Région Hauts-de-France, ce projet illustre la force d’un partenariat public-privé engagé. Il contribue à faire évoluer la pratique vers plus de souplesse, de partage et de cohérence avec les enjeux contemporains.
Un pas de plus vers un polo plus ouvert, plus responsable, et toujours aussi vivant.
In Apremont, the final touches are being made: a vast sand arena dedicated to polo is nearing completion. With its exceptional size (160 x 75 m), it is set to become a new landmark for the discipline in France and well beyond. It will be the largest open-air sand arena in Europe purpose-built for polo.
Arena polo, a close cousin of traditional polo on grass, is played on a smaller pitch with slightly adapted rules. Like classic polo, it requires several horses per player, but its shorter, faster-paced matches appeal to a growing audience. This new arena will also host paddock polo, an even more accessible format requiring only one horse per player, a version gaining popularity in clubs affiliated to the Fédération Française d’Équitation.
In the United States, arena polo already accounts for half of all licensed players, thanks to its strong presence in schools and universities. England, Argentina, and France - first ever world champions in this discipline - are following suit, with a shared ambition: to make polo more inclusive, more educational, and more sustainable.
That same ambition inspired the French Polo Federation and the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly to launch this project. Set in Apremont, a territory where equestrian culture runs deep, the arena will serve a wide range of purposes: a playing field for professional and amateur players, a base for youth training camps, a teaching tool for local schools, and a venue for corporate events and other equestrian disciplines.
Technically, the arena sets a new standard: a state-of-the-art fiber footing combined with a sub-irrigation system reduces water consumption by 70%. A raised viewing platform will welcome spectators and partners.
Starting next summer, the venue will host the European qualifiers for the Arena Polo World Championship and France is officially bidding to host the finals in 2027. This new facility will further strengthen Chantilly’s position as a major hub of international equestrian sport.
Supported by the Fonds Éperon, the Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne, the Département de l’Oise, and the Hauts-de-France Region, this project reflects the strength of a committed public-private partnership. It marks a step toward a more flexible, more inclusive, and more environmentally conscious future for polo.
