C’est avec une immense joie et une grande fierté que je vous souhaite la bienvenue à l’Open de France Barnes 2025. Cette 25e édition marque un jalon important dans l’histoire de notre tournoi, désormais reconnu comme un rendez-vous incontournable du calendrier international.

Avec la participation exceptionnelle de 16 équipes cette année, l’Open de France Barnes confirme son rayonnement et attire toujours plus de talents venus du monde entier, sur les terrains d’exception du Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, de La Magdeleine et de Sainte-Mesme.

Plus qu’un simple tournoi, l’Open est une véritable célébration de notre sport, de ses valeurs et de sa communauté. Il incarne l’excellence, l’esprit d’équipe et le fair-play, des principes qui nous rassemblent et que nous sommes fiers de promouvoir.

It is with immense joy and pride that I welcome you to the 2025 Barnes Open de France. This 25th edition marks an important milestone in the history of our tournament,now recognized as one of the most competitive ones in Europe.

With an impressive 16 teams taking part this year, the Barnes Open de France is consolidating its position as a major event in the international polo calendar, attracting talent from around the world to the exceptional grounds of the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, La Magdeleine and Sainte-Mesme.

More than just a tournament, the Open is a true celebration of our sport, its values and its community. It embodies excellence, team spirit and fair play, principles that bring us together and that we are proud to promote.

Cette année est également marquée par plusieurs projets d’envergure pour la Fédération Française de Polo. La création d’une Arena fédérale sur le site du Polo Club de Chantilly constitue une avancée majeure : ce nouvel équipement permettra de développer la pratique du polo toute l’année et de renforcer l’attractivité de notre discipline en France.

Par ailleurs, nos équipes nationales s’apprêtent à défendre nos couleurs lors de deux grands rendez-vous internationaux : le Championnat du monde d’Arena Polo aux États-Unis et le Championnat d’Europe sur gazon en Pologne. Ces compétitions sont autant d’occasions de hisser haut les couleurs du polo français à l’international.

Je tiens à remercier chaleureusement notre partenaire titre, Barnes, pour son engagement fidèle à nos côtés, ainsi que l’ensemble de nos partenaires qui, par leur confiance, continuent à faire vivre les belles valeurs humaines de notre sport.

This year also marks several major projects for the French Polo Federation. The creation of a federal arena at the Chantilly Polo Club is a major step forward: this new facility will enable polo to be played all year round and will enhance the appeal of our sport in France.

In addition, our national teams are preparing to defend our colours at two major international events: the Arena Polo World Championship in the United States and the European Grass Polo Championship in Poland. These competitions are opportunities to fly the flag for French polo on the international stage.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to our title partner, Barnes, for their loyal commitment to us, as well as to all our partners who, through their trust, continue to uphold the wonderful human values of our sport.

Le vent de l’Hémisphère Sud souffle de plus en plus fort sur l’Open de France Barnes. The wind from the Southern Hemisphere is blowing ever stronger at the Open de France Barnes.

Un vent d’excellence et d’émotion, celui qui traverse les tribunes du Campo Argentino de Polo à Buenos Aires chaque mois de décembre. Cette année encore, grâce à l’engagement passionné de nos "patrons", ces véritables mécènes sans lesquels rien ne serait possible, Chantilly accueille de plus en plus de joueurs qui font vibrer Palermo : après Nicolás Pieres en 2023, nous recevons pour cette 25e édition une véritable légende vivante de notre sport, David ‘Pelón’ Stirling, qui a soulevé le trophée de l’Open d’Argentine à Palermo à dix reprises aux côtés d’un certain Adolfo Cambiaso.

Et il ne sera pas le seul nouveau venu à la Ferme d’Apremont : Sapo Caset, double finaliste à Palermo, découvrira également notre club. En tout, ils seront plus d’une quinzaine ici à avoir évolué dans la “Cathédrale du polo”.

It is the wind of excellence and emotion, similar to the one that blows through the stands of the Campo Argentino de Polo in Buenos Aires every December. Thanks to the passionate commitment of our “patrons”, those true benefactors without whom nothing would be possible, Chantilly is welcoming more and more players who thrill Palermo. After Nicolás Pieres in 2023, this 25th edition welcomes a true living legend of our sport: David “Pelón” Stirling. He has won the Argentine Open trophy in Palermo ten times alongside Adolfo Cambiaso.

He won't be the only newcomer to La Ferme d'Apremont: Sapo Caset, a two-time finalist in Palermo, will also discover our club. In all, more than fifteen players who have played in the “Cathedral of Polo” will be here.

Ce phénomène, encore impensable il y a quelques années, témoigne de l’ascension continue de notre tournoi, devenu en un quart de siècle un rendez-vous incontournable de la saison européenne. L’Open de France Barnes, ce sont trois semaines de compétition sur des terrains proches de la perfection, entretenus avec soin par Olivier Brillant et son équipe. Trois semaines pendant lesquelles plus de 1 300 chevaux investissent la Ferme d’Apremont - un chiffre unique en Europe - dans une atmosphère à la fois concentrée, compétitive et profondément conviviale.

Ce tournoi est le fruit d’un travail collectif remarquable, porté par Philippe et Benoît Perrier, Adrien Le Gallo, nos équipes du club, nos bénévoles, nos actionnaires, nos sponsors, et tous ceux qui, dans l’ombre ou la lumière, rendent cette aventure possible. Sans oublier le travail essentiel de Sébastien Philippot, qui supervise avec dévouement les écuries éphémères du club, et un hommage appuyé à tous les petiseros : ces soigneurs discrets et infatigables qui veillent sur les chevaux, les entraînent, les préparent, les accompagnent au quotidien avec passion et compétence.

Ces chevaux-athlètes, premiers acteurs de ce sport que nous aimons tant. Qu’ils en soient tous ici chaleureusement remerciés.

L’édition 2025 s’annonce une nouvelle fois comme un grand millésime ; et ce n’est pas qu’une formule. C’est une réalité tangible pour tous ceux qui ont déjà vécu, ou vivront bientôt, les rencontres de l’Open de France Barnes. Alors savourons ensemble cette 25 e, avec fierté, gratitude… et une certaine impatience de voir le meilleur de notre sport s’exprimer sur nos terrains.

This phenomenon, unthinkable just a few years ago, is testament to the ongoing success of our tournament. In just a quarter of a century, it has become a highlight of the European season. The Open de France Barnes comprises three weeks of competition on near-perfect fields, which are meticulously maintained by Olivier Brillant and his team. During these three weeks, more than 1,300 horses will take to the Apremont Farm, a unique location in Europe, in an atmosphere that is both intense and competitive, yet also deeply convivial.

The tournament is the result of the exceptional efforts of Philippe and Benoît Perrier, Adrien Le Gallo, the club’s teams, volunteers, shareholders, sponsors, and everyone else who, whether in the spotlight or behind the scenes, makes this event possible. Special mention must also go to Sébastien Philippot, who oversees the club’s temporary stables with devotion, and to all the petiseros: the hardworking, dedicated carers who look after, train and prepare the horses every day with passion and skill. These horse-athletes are the stars of the sport we love so much. We would like to express our warmest thanks to all of them.

The 2025 edition is shaping up to be another great vintage and that is no empty promise. It is a tangible reality for everyone who has experienced, or will soon experience, the Open de France Barnes. PREMIÈRES PETITES CHOSES À SAVOIR POUR BIEN SUIVRE UN MATCH DE POLO

Il n'est pas toujours évident de rester concentré face à un spectacle sportif qui se tient sur un immense terrain couvrant plus de quatre fois la surface d'un terrain de foot : deux-cent-soixante-quinze mètres par cent-quarante-cinq, soit quatre hectares ! Les choses deviennent plus claires si l'on comprend qu'il s'agit, pour les quatre joueurs de chaque équipe, de marquer le plus de buts possible (appelés goals en polo où, côté règlement, tout est anglicisé). Des principes qui peuvent tenir en quatre mots ou presque : changements, arbitres, ligne et pénalités.

CHANGEMENT

Dans un souci d‘équité (qualité du terrain, position du soleil), à chaque goal marqué, les équipes changent de côté.

ARBITRES

Les arbitres sont deux sur le terrain et à cheval. En cas de litige, un troisième homme, le "referee", suit le match assis une chaise haute depuis le bord du terrain et tranche entre les deux "umpires" en cas de désaccord.

LA LIGNE

Quelle est la raison la plus courante des interventions des arbitres ? La violation de la sacro-sainte « ligne »… "¡La línea!" entendrez-vous souvent crier (c'est un euphémisme) par les Argentins. Cruciale et prise de tête, cette fameuse ligne. C'est la règle de base du polo, fondée sur la sécurité. Quand un joueur frappe la balle, la ligne imaginaire qu'il a créée entre lui et la balle lui appartient. Interdiction formelle pour l'adversaire de couper cette ligne sous peine de sanction. Le couloir créé par cette ligne entre les deux joueurs est impénétrable. S'en suit donc une pénalité…

LES PÉNALITÉS

Les pénalités, selon l'emplacement et la gravité des fautes commises, se tirent à 60, 40, 30 yards ou même « sur place », même à 10 cm des goals, si la faute a été commise entre les 30 yards et la ligne des goals.

Un corner (lorsque le défenseur sort volontairement la balle derrière la ligne des goals) se tire comme une pénalité, à 60 yards en face de l'endroit où est sortie la balle. Lors d'une pénalité ou d'une remise en jeu, le premier adversaire doit se tenir à au moins 30 yards du joueur tirant cette pénalité ou cette remise en jeu.

Understanding a polo game: what you need to know

It may not be easy to stay focused on a sports competition held on a huge field covering more than four times the surface of a soccer field: two hundred and seventy-five meters by one hundred and fortyfive, that is to say four hectares! Assuming that one understands that the four players of each team must score as many goals as possible (also called goals in French because as far as rules are concerned the wording is mostly in English), the game becomes more obvious once one gets to know some of the basics. These principles can be summed up in four words: changes, referees, line and penalties.

Change

For the sake of fairness (quality of the field, position of the sun), at each goal scored, the teams change sides.

Umpires

The two referees on the field are called umpires, they are both on horseback. In case of a disagreement, a third man, called the referee, who follows the game from a high chair at the edge of the field will decide between the two umpires.

The line

What is the most common reason for referee intervention? The violation of the sacrosanct "line"..." ¡La línea! " you will often hear Argentines shout (this is a euphemism). This famous line is as crucial as it is contentious. It is the basic rule of polo, based on safety. When a player hits the ball, the imaginary line he has created between him and the ball belongs to him. It is strictly forbidden for the opponent to cross this line or he will be subject to sanctions. he corridor created by this line between the two players is impenetrable. A penalty follows...

Penalties

LE CHUKKER

Le chukker correspond à une période d'un match (sept minutes plus trente secondes pour qu'un arrêt de jeu mette fin à la période). Un match de polo compte au minimum quatre chukkers et au maximum huit (cinq pour l'Open de France). Les Argentins parlent de chukka et en France, on peut se contenter du mot période.

COMPRENDRE UN MATCH AVEC LE N° DES JOUEURS

Chaque équipe est composée de quatre joueurs… qui peuvent être des joueuses ! Chacun d'entre eux (d'entre elles) porte sur le maillot un numéro bien visible qui correspond à un rôle bien précis au sein de l'équipe. Aucun de ces joueurs ne peut être gaucher. Obligation de tenir le maillet dans la main droite.

Chukker

The chukker refers to a playing period of a match (seven minutes plus thirty seconds to allow for a playing action to finish). A polo game has a minimum of four chukkers and a maximum of eight (five for the Open de France). The Argentinians speak of chukka, the French may call it a period.

Understanding the players' numbers

Each team is made up of four players, male or female, as polo is a mixed sport. Each of them has a number on the jersey that corresponds to a specific role in the team. None of these players can be left-handed. The mallet must be held in the right hand.

Le numéro 1 est l'attaquant, le cavalier qui joue « en pointe » lorsque l'équipe est en phase offensive, c'est-à-dire qu'elle se dirige vers les goals adverses. Dans les matchs européens, où sont mélangés amateurs et professionnels, c'est en général l'amateur qui est ainsi envoyé au devant pour récupérer les longues balles que le pro est plus apte à envoyer.

The number 1 is the attacker, the rider who plays at the forefront when the team is in an offensive phase, i.e. heading towards the opponent's goals. In European matches, where amateurs and professionals play together, it is usually the amateur who is sent to the front to recover the long balls that the pro is more able to shoot.

Le numéro 2 soutient cet attaquant et relaie les balles envoyées par le n°3, ou 4. C'est un rôle confié en général à l'un des deux joueurs le plus fort de l'équipe en matchs pro-am.

The number 2 supports this attacker and passes on the balls sent by the number 3 or 4. This role is usually given to one of the two strongest players of the team in pro-am matches.

Le numéro 3 est le pilier de l'équipe, c'est par lui que passe tout le jeu et notamment son rôle, notamment, est de monter la balle et de la passer à ses attaquants, en général par de longs coups, mais également en dribblant. Dans les équipes pro-am, c'est habituellement le joueur au handicap le plus élevé.

The number 3 is the pillar of the team, all the game gœs through him. Mainly, his role is to get hold of the ball and to pass it to his attackers, generally by hitting long shots, but also by dribbling. In pro-am teams, this is usually the player with the highest handicap.

Le numéro 4 est l'ultime rempart de l'équipe quand celle-ci est attaquée. C'est le "back", en général un joueur solide, rapide qui monte des chevaux de la même trempe, n'ayant pas peur des contacts. C'est lui qui arrête le premier attaquant, en général, le n°1 adverse. De même, le n°3 marquera le n°2 et inversement (1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1). Mais parfois la situation de jeu fait que ces rôles peuvent être échangés le temps d'une action, l'essentiel étant que chaque joueur ne lâche jamais un adversaire.

THE POLO "PONY": A SPORT HORSE UN CHEVAL DE SPORT LE « PONEY » DE POLO :

Non, le cheval de polo n'est pas un bagual, un cheval sauvage, attrapé par hasard au lasso au milieu de la pampa et lancé après quelques brèves séances de dressage sur un terrain. Il est le fruit d'un concept réfléchi et de sélections rigoureuses entreprises il y a plus d'un siècle.

Ce n'est pas un hasard si les chevaux argentins sont les plus recherchés et les plus diffusés à travers la planète car c'est parmi eux que l'on trouve le meilleur concentré des qualités requises pour ce sport : une tête bien faite, une maniabilité et une souplesse sans blocage, une bouche facile, répondant rapidement à la moindre sollicitation et une pointe de vitesse avoisinant celle des hippodromes.

Ce caractère en or leur vient de leurs ancêtres criollos, chevaux de service des estancias descendants des chevaux ibériques importés par les conquistadors, judicieusement croisés aux pur-sang. Il leur vient également d'une éducation sans anthropomorphisme, en groupe : une particularité entretenue par les spécificités du polo. Un joueur ayant besoin d'un minimum de quatre chevaux, voire six à huit pour le niveau de l'Open de France, ceux-ci seront entraînés en lot, entraînés en groupe, du moins pour la condition. D'où ces belles images de petiseros sortant à cheval avec, de chaque côté, deux à quatre chevaux attachés ensemble par le licol. Cette méthode collective présente l'avantage que les chevaux vivent le plus souvent entre eux, en société de chevaux et restent des chevaux. Les plus capricieux sont souvent les plus bichonnés ! Un cheval de polo retourne à sa vie de cheval de troupeau après avoir effectué son travail, il n'en est que moins compliqué.

La majorité des chevaux de polo sont des juments. Selon les grands joueurs, c'est parce qu'elles apprennent plus vite que les mâles, tout en gardant leur influx. Un étalon a, lui-aussi, cet influx, mais reste plus délicat à gérer parmi toutes ces juments. Quant au hongre, il perd un peu de ce tempérament, cette « niaque » nécessaire pour arriver sur la balle devant les autres !

No, the polo horse is not a "bagual", a wild horse, caught by chance with a lasso in the middle of the pampas and thrown after a few brief training sessions on a field. It is the result of a thoughtful concept and rigorous selections undertaken over a century ago.

It is not at random that Argentine polo horses are the most sought after and most widely spread throughout the world. They do have a high concentration of all the qualities required for this sport: mental strength, maneuverability and suppleness, an easy mouth, quickness of response to the slightest request and a speed that approaches that of racehorses.

This golden character comes from their criollo ancestors, service horses of the estancias, descendants of the Iberian horses imported by the conquistadors, judiciously crossed with the thoroughbred. It also comes from an education without anthropomorphism, an education always done in group: a particularity maintained by the specificities of polo. A player needs a minimum of four horses, even six to eight for the Open de France level. These horses will be trained in groups or strings (lote in Castilian) at least when they do their endurance work on the track. Hence these beautiful images of petiseros going out on horseback with, on each side, two to four horses tied together by the halter. This collective method has the advantage that the horses live mostly among themselves, in a horse society and thus remain horses. The most temperamental are often the most pampered! A polo horse returns to its life as a herd horse after having done its work which makes it even less complicated.

The majority of polo horses are mares. According to the great players, this is because they learn faster than the males while keeping their impulse. A stallion also has this power, but is more difficult to manage among all these mares. As for the gelding, he loses a little of this temperament, this drive necessary to arrive on the ball quicker than the others!

Powerful croup of quarter-horses that allows instant starts and very fast turning.

Between 1m56 and 1m60 at withers (the ideal size, according to the Asociación Argentina de Criadores de Caballos de Polo being 1m56).

Le cheval de polo argentin est donc reconnu pour être le meilleur du monde. Toutefois les élevages anglais, uruguayens et australiens font également bonne figure. À un niveau moindre (tout le monde n'a pas besoin d'un crack pour jouer du high-goal), il est sans doute possible de s'épargner le prix d'un billet d'avion Argentine-Europe en recherchant judicieusement des pur-sang de réforme ou même en prospectant du côté du horse-ball où sont cultivées et recherchées chez les chevaux des qualités similaires au polo. Il faut trois années d'éducation avant qu'un cheval puisse être capable de jouer. Un « parcours scolaire » qui commence avec le domador, (qui « débourre » le cheval, c'est-à-dire, le monte pour la première fois et lui inculque les bases : maniabilité, arrêts, départs…), puis par le piloto, (qui lui fera faire ses premiers practices tout en poursuivant son dressage) avant d'entrer en matchs officiels avec le joueur.

Lors d'une rencontre du niveau de l'Open de France, un cheval joue entre deux et trois minutes d'affilée, jamais plus. Au-delà d’une interruption officielle en milieu de période, au cours d'une période, le joueur profite d'un court arrêt de jeu pour aller rapidement changer de cheval, parfois, en passant de l'un à l'autre sans mettre pied à terre. Ainsi, jamais un cheval ne sera « mis dans le rouge » car ces athlètes sont préservés. D'ailleurs, entre deux saisons, les chevaux profitent de grandes vacances, quatre à six mois au pré et bien sûr, en troupeau.

The Argentinean polo horse is therefore recognized as the best in the world. However, the English, Uruguayan and Australian breeders also do well. At a lower level (not everyone needs a crack horse to play high-goal), it is probably possible to save the price of an Argentine-European plane ticket by judiciously searching for thoroughbreds or even prospecting in horse-ball where horses with similar qualities to polo are sought after. It takes three years of training before a horse is able to play.

A "schooling journey" that starts with the domador, (who "breaks in" the horse, i.e. rides it for the first time and teaches it the basics: handling, stops, starts...), then by the piloto, (who will make it do its first practices while continuing its training) before entering official games with the player.

In an Open de France level match, a horse plays between two and three minutes at a time, never more. During a chukker, the player takes advantage of a short break in play to quickly change horses, sometimes moving from one to the other without setting foot on the ground. This way, no horse is ever pushed beyond its limits, preserving these athletes is of utter importance. Moreover, between two seasons, the horses enjoy a long vacation, four to six months in the pasture and of course, in the herd.

Pour cette 25e édition, le Conseil départemental de l’Oise est fier d’apporter son soutien au Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly à Apremont, l’un des trois plus grands clubs d’Europe, à l’occasion de l’Open de France de polo.

C’est toujours un réel plaisir de profiter de ce magnifique écrin de verdure, situé en plein cœur de la forêt de Chantilly, théâtre de cette grande manifestation équestre mixte, qui accueillera 16 équipes internationales de polo. Elles seront notamment représentées par quinze grands noms passés par l’Open d’Argentine, la référence suprême de ce sport, et nos meilleurs joueurs français.

Je tiens à féliciter les organisateurs de ce grand évènement sportif qui marque l’apothéose de la saison française de polo et continue de se développer puisque l’Open de France existe aussi dans sa version féminine. Le polo féminin est en plein essor et l’Open de France de polo à Chantilly sera une formidable vitrine pour le mettre en valeur, grâce à la présence de grandes joueuses reconnues sur le plan international.

For this 25th edition, the Oise Departmental Council is proud to support the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly in Apremont, one of the three largest clubs in Europe, in hosting the Open de France.

The magnificent green setting in the heart of the Chantilly Forest is always a pleasure to experience, and it will play host to this major mixed equestrian event, welcoming sixteen international polo teams. The teams will be represented by fifteen renowned players who have competed in the Argentine Open - widely considered to be the pinnacle of the sport - as well as our top French players.

Congratulations to the organisers of this big sporting event, which marks the high point of the French polo season and continues to grow - the Open de France now has a women's competition as well. Indeed, women’s polo is booming, and the Open de France in Chantilly will provide a wonderful showcase for it thanks to the participation of renowned international female players.

L’Open de France a vu le jour en 2001 et, en 25 ans, il a pris un essor incroyable ! Son niveau n’a cessé d’augmenter ; la qualité des chevaux, celle des joueurs et le nombre d’équipes aussi. Le polo d’aujourd’hui n’a plus rien à voir avec celui qui se jouait à handicap égal au début de ce siècle.

Cet Open de France a vu défiler de très grands joueurs au début de leur carrière, qui, plus tard, allaient remporter le mythique Open d’Argentine : Juan-Martin Nero, Pablo Mac Donough, Lucas Monteverde (La Dolfina), Pablo Pieres, Barto et Jeta Castagnola (La Natividad), Facundo Pieres (Ellerstina), et d’autres grands noms encore qui ont animé cet Abierto.

L’année 2020, où la finale avait opposé à Chantilly les frères Castagnola, Jeta pour Talandracas, (France) et Barto pour les Lions, (Grande-Bretagne), a été un tournant : l’Open de France est alors passé à une vitesse supérieure; c’est cette édition qui a véritablement propulsé le tournoi dans une autre dimension, faisant franchir un cap à sa notoriété. Les deux équipes s’étaient déjà affrontées en phase de poule dans un match historique resté gravé dans toutes les mémoires, indécis jusqu’au bout : 29 goals en 5 chukkers !

Mais les Castagnola n’avaient pas encore remporté l’Abierto. Il leur faudra attendre encore un an. Et devenir handicap 10 à 17 et 19 ans !

Le plateau de cette 25e édition est tout simplement à tomber par terre, avec en tête d’affiche un décuple vainqueur de l’Open d’Argentine, fidèle lieutenant d’Adolfo Cambiaso, avec qui il a remporté ces dix titres aux côtés de Juan-Martin Nero et Pablo Mac Donough : l’Uruguayen Pelón Stirling ! Grâce à Alexis Morange, qui l’a engagé au sein de son équipe Octogone, Chantilly pourra admirer l’une des légendes de La Dolfina. Seul Cambiaso manque encore à l’appel à la Ferme d’Apremont. Pour bientôt, peut-être ?

D’autres champions passés par La Dolfina fouleront également les terrains de Chantilly : Guillermo Terrera (Eternal J), Diego Cavanagh (Brittany Polo, La Baule), Alejandro Muzzio (Clinova, Angleterre), finaliste à Palermo en 2021. Finaliste de l’Open d’Argentine en 2021 – et demi-finaliste l’an dernier –, Fran Elizalde va pouvoir défendre son titre dans l’Open de France Barnes remporté l’an dernier avec La Fija Sandbox, mais cette fois-ci avec Kazak où il remplace Nico Pieres.

Autre belle surprise dans la liste des engagés, que l’on doit à Ian Galliène : la présence de Sapo Caset (h9), finaliste à Palermo en 2018, qui a également remporté l’US Open à deux reprises et la Coupe d’Or de Sotogrande, deux tournois Grand Slam (Chantilly étant un tournoi WPT Challenge Cup).

La place manquerait ici pour citer tous les grands joueurs qui, ces dernières années, ont animé l’Open d’Argentine, la référence suprême de ce sport : ils sont quinze cette année à Chantilly !

Au-delà des onze capitaines français (les autres venant de Suisse, Angleterre, Belgique, Italie et Suède), on suivra plus particulièrement nos joueurs tricolores : Julien Reynes et Louis Jarrige (h4), qui, grâce à la fidélité et à la générosité de Jean-Claude Le Grand, auront la chance de jouer à nouveau aux côtés de Guillermo Terrera. Ou encore Robert Strom (h5), à la fois capitaine et attaquant de Sainte-Mesme, aux côtés de son beau-frère Clemente Zavaleta, lui aussi un “ex” de l’Abierto.

Bref, une affiche à couper le souffle, et il sera bien difficile de s’organiser pour ne pas manquer un seul des pas moins trente-et-un matchs qui se disputeront durant ces trois semaines.

Launched in 2001, the Open de France has grown incredibly over the last 25 years. The level of competition has steadily increased, as have the quality of the horses, players and teams. Today’s polo bears no resemblance to what was played on an equal handicap at the beginning of this century.

Some of the greatest players in the history of the Open de France went on to win the legendary Argentine Open at the start of their careers: Juan Martín Nero, Pablo Mac Donough, Lucas Monteverde (La Dolfina), Pablo Pieres, Barto and Jeta Castagnola (La Natividad) and Facundo Pieres (Ellerstina) are just a few of the great names that have enlivened this Abierto.

2020 was a turning point: the final in Chantilly saw the Castagnola brothers play against each other, Jeta for Talandracas (France) and Barto for Lions (Great Britain). This edition of the Open de France really propelled the tournament into another dimension, raising its profile. The two teams had already faced each other in a historic group phase match that remains engraved in everyone’s memories, with the outcome undecided until the very end and 29 goals in 5 chukkers!

However, the Castagnolas had not yet won the Abierto. They would have to wait another year.

This 25th edition boasts a line-up that is nothing short of breathtaking. It is headlined by a ten-time winner of the Argentine Open: Pelón Stirling, Adolfo Cambiaso’s loyal lieutenant, who won those ten titles alongside Cambiaso, Juan Martín Nero, and Pablo Mac Donough. Thanks to Alexis Morange, who has signed him to his Octogone team, Chantilly will welcome one of La Dolfina’s living legends. Cambiaso is the only player who has not yet come to the Ferme d’Apremont. Perhaps soon? Other former La Dolfina champions will also be treading the Chantilly grounds: Guillermo Terrera (Eternal J), Diego Cavanagh (Brittany Polo, La Baule), and Alejandro Muzzio (Clinova, England), who was a finalist in Palermo in 2021.

Also a finalist in the Argentine Open in 2021 (and a semi-finalist last year), Fran Elizalde will return to defend his title at the Open de France Barnes, which he won in 2024 with La Fija Sandbox, this time playing for team Kazak where he replaces Nico Pieres.

In addition to the eleven French captains (the remaining coming from Switzerland, England, Belgium, Italy and Sweden), we will be keeping a close eye on our French players, Julien Reynes and Louis Jarrige (H4), who, thanks to Jean-Claude Le Grand’s loyalty and generosity, will have the chance to play alongside Guillermo Terrera again. Also worth watching are Robert Strom (H5), captain and striker of Sainte-Mesme, and his brother-in-law Clemente Zavaleta, also a former player of the Abierto.

In short, this is a breathtaking line-up and it will be a challenge not to miss any of the thirty-one matches to be played over the three weeks.

C’est une véritable légende du polo mondial que la Ferme d’Apremont accueille pour cet Open de France. Avec dix titres à l’Open d’Argentine au sein de la mythique équipe de La Dolfina, l’Uruguayen Pelón Stirling figure parmi les joueurs les plus titrés et respectés de ce sport. Ce qui rend son parcours d’autant plus exceptionnel, c’est qu’il a grandi loin de la filière argentine, en Espagne, où il a appris le polo au club de Sotogrande que dirigeait son père, puis en Angleterre pour trois années d’internat et étudier ensuite le marketing à l’université d’Oxford Brookes. Ce n’est qu’après ce parcours académique européen qu’il découvre véritablement l’Argentine, à 23 ans passés : un chemin atypique pour un joueur ayant accédé au club très fermé des 10 de handicap. Éloquent, accessible, et doté d’un bel humour, Stirling apporte à Chantilly son expérience, sa notoriété… et sa bonne humeur.

COMMENT S’EST FAITE VOTRE RENCONTRE AVEC ALEXIS MORANGE ?

QUI VOUS A CONVAINCU DE VENIR JOUER EN FRANCE ?

J’ai connu Alexis par l’intermédiaire de Gabriel Iglesias, que je connais depuis longtemps car nous avons tous les deux vécu à Sotogrande. C’est lui qui m’a suggéré de venir jouer à Chantilly, et l’idée m’a plu car je n’y avais encore jamais mis les pieds...

VOUS NE CONNAISSIEZ DONC PAS ENCORE LE CLUB DE CHANTILLY, MAIS VOUS EN AVIEZ SANS DOUTE ENTENDU PARLER. QUELLE IDÉE VOUS FAISIEZ-VOUS, A PRIORI, DU CLUB ET DE L’OPEN DE FRANCE ?

Je suis venu une soirée en juillet pour rencontrer Alexis, et nous avons partagé un asado au club. J’ai été vraiment impressionné par les installations. J’avais déjà entendu beaucoup de bien de Chantilly, et l’Open de France est devenu un tournoi très important, ce qui m’a convaincu d’y participer. C’est sans doute le meilleur tournoi d’Europe à ce niveau. Il y a beaucoup d’équipes engagées, les terrains sont en excellent état à cette époque de l’année, et tout est très bien organisé. De grands joueurs et de grandes organisations y participent, ce qui en fait une compétition très relevée.

Chantilly will welcome a true legend of modern polo for the very first time this year: David “Pelón” Stirling, ten-time winner of the Argentine Open with the legendary La Dolfina, is making his debut at the Open de France. His path to the top is anything but conventional: born in Uruguay, he grew up in Spain, where his father ran the club in Sotogrande, then completed his final school years in England before studying marketing management at Oxford Brookes University. He only discovered Argentina - and the world of high-goal polo - after finishing university, around the age of 23. Far from the typical Argentine polo pipeline, Stirling reached a 10-goal handicap at 31, a rare feat for a foreigner in a game so deeply dominated by Argentines, and an age when most stars have already peaked. Friendly, articulate, and known for his sense of humour, Stirling brings both his experience and good spirits to the Ferme d’Apremont for his very first appearance in Chantilly.

HOW DID YOU FIRST CONNECT WITH ALEXIS MORANGE? WHO CONVINCED YOU TO COME AND PLAY IN FRANCE?

I got to know Alexis through Gabriel Iglesias, who I have known for a long time as we both used to live in Sotogrande. He suggested that I come and play in Chantilly, which I liked as I had never been there before..

YOU’RE COMING TO CHANTILLY FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, BUT YOU HAVE PROBABLY HEARD OF THE CLUB BEFORE. WHAT IS YOUR IMPRESSION ‘À PRIORI’ OF CHANTILLY AND THE FRENCH OPEN FROM WHAT YOU'VE BEEN TOLD?

I came for one evening in July to meet Alexis, and we had an asado at the club. I was really impressed by the facilities; I had already heard lots of good things about Chantilly, and the Open de France has become a very important tournament, which convinced me to come and play. The Open de France is probably the best tournament in Europe at this level. Many teams participate, the fields are in great condition at that time of year and everything is very well organised. Big players and big organisations participate in it, so it has become very competitive.

QUELLE AMBITION PEUT AVOIR OCTOGONE POUR CET OPEN ?

Dès ma première rencontre avec Alexis, j’ai senti qu’il aimait avant tout passer de bons moments. Il connaît parfaitement les lieux, et Gabriel a mis en place une organisation solide. Notre première ambition, c’est de prendre du plaisir. Mais comme l’équipe est bien structurée, l’objectif évident est d’aller le plus loin possible, c’est-à-dire atteindre les phases finales, pourquoi pas la finale le dernier dimanche. C’est un tournoi difficile, donc nous prendrons les matchs les uns après les autres, en espérant être encore en course à la fin. QUELS CHEVAUX ALLEZ-VOUS MONTER ? VOTRE PIQUET D’ANGLETERRE ?

Oui, je vais venir avec mes chevaux d’Angleterre. Ils jouent actuellement un tournoi à 20 goals jusqu’au 10 août. Ensuite, je pars à New York pour disputer l’East Coast Open, puis je reviendrai directement à Chantilly pour l’Open.

WHAT KIND OF AMBITIONS DOES OCTOGONE HAVE FOR THIS OPEN?

From my first impressions of Alexis when I met him, I got the feeling that he likes to have fun. Alexis knows the place well, and Gabriel has put a good organisation in place. Our first ambition is to have fun, but given that we also have this good organisation, the obvious idea is to progress to the final stages of the tournament. It's a tough tournament, but we're going to take it one game at a time and hopefully make it to the final on the last Sunday. And, of course, there will be plenty of asados at the stables, as there is a nice barbecue in the barn! That is definitely the second biggest aim of the season!

WHICH HORSES WILL YOU BE PLAYING? WILL IT BE YOUR UK STRING?

Yes, I will bring my horses from the UK. My horses are playing in a 20-goal tournament in England until the 10 th of August. Then will go to New York to play in the East Coast Open, before quickly coming back to Chantilly to play in the Open.

CHEZ UN CHEVAL DE POLO QUAND VOUS ACHETEZ ?

Avant tout, je suis un fanatique de chevaux. Quand je trouve un cheval spécial, dont je sens qu’il peut performer au plus haut niveau, je ressens une excitation comparable à celle d’une victoire dans un grand tournoi. Aujourd’hui, tout est tellement compétitif qu’il faut un cheval complet : facile à manier, rapide à s’arrêter et sur les demi-tours, rapide tout court, robuste, en bonne santé… et si possible avec un bon mental.

ÉLEVEZ-VOUS VOUS-MÊME ? EN ARGENTINE ?

EN URUGUAY ?

Oui, j’ai une structure d’élevage importante en Argentine, appelée Oriental. Cela fait douze ou treize ans maintenant, et ça fonctionne plutôt bien. La plupart des chevaux que je monte en Angleterre viennent de mon élevage, donc vous pourrez les voir à Chantilly. Je pense que l’on verra de plus en plus de chevaux Oriental dans le monde. Bien sûr, nous devons encore améliorer la qualité des lignées, et nous y travaillons avec pour objectif de proposer nos chevaux aux meilleurs joueurs mondiaux.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A POLO HORSE?

First of all, I am a fanatico when it comes to horses. The feeling I get when I find a special horse that I know is going to perform at the highest level is akin to winning a major tournament. I get so excited when I find a special horse. Nowadays, everything is so competitive that I need a complete horse: one that is easy to handle, quick to stop and turn, fast, hardy and healthy, and ideally has a good character and mind.

DO YOU BREED HORSES YOURSELF? IN ARGENTINA? IN URUGUAY?

Yes, I have a large breeding operation in Argentina called Oriental. We have been doing this for about twelve or thirteen years now, and things seem to be going very well. Most of my string in England comes from my breeding programme, so you will get to see them in Chantilly. I think you will see more and more Oriental horses around the world. Of course, we still need to improve the breed, and we are working on this with the aim of providing top polo players with our horses.

L’AN DERNIER, VOTRE ÉQUIPE FÉTICHE DE LA DOLFINA S’EST SÉPARÉE, ET VOUS ÊTES REPARTI AVEC DIX TITRES DE PALERMO. QU’EST-CE QU’UN JOUEUR DE POLO PEUT RÊVER DE PLUS ? VOUS CONSIDÉREZ VOTRE CARRIÈRE COMME ACCOMPLIE ?

Quand j’ai commencé à jouer, je n’aurais jamais imaginé un jour jouer à Palermo. Enfant en Europe, je découvrais à peine le polo, et je préférais souvent jouer au foot avec mes copains espagnols. Mais avec le temps, je suis entré dans cet univers et j’ai commencé à en comprendre les codes. À l’université, en Angleterre, j’avais amené une petite cavalerie et je jouais en medium goal, avant de passer progressivement au haut niveau. Puis une opportunité s’est présentée en Argentine, où j’ai pu apprendre aux côtés des meilleurs.

Et un jour, Adolfo m’a proposé d’intégrer La Dolfina. Aujourd’hui, j’y vis avec toute ma famille, j’y ai monté une grande structure. J’ai énormément appris, j’ai vécu des moments exceptionnels. Je ne remercierai jamais assez La Dolfina, la famille Cambiaso, et mes coéquipiers pour cette aventure incroyable. Quand on a commencé, personne n’imaginait ça. Je n’aurais jamais rêvé disputer un Open… encore moins une finale… et encore moins en gagner dix.

ET QUE PEUT-ON RÊVER DE MIEUX QUE DE JOUER À

CÔTÉ DE CAMBIASO ? TROIS MOTS POUR LE DÉCRIRE ?

Trois mots ? A-ma-zing ! (rires). J’ai toujours eu conscience de la chance que j’ai eue de jouer avec Adolfo pendant toutes ces années. Je crois même que je détiens le record du nombre d’années passées à ses côtés à Palermo. Pour un Uruguayen qui a grandi en Europe, c’est exceptionnel d’avoir partagé si longtemps le terrain avec le n°1 mondial. Il est un ami très cher, il m’a énormément aidé, et je pense aussi lui avoir apporté. On est voisins, on passe nos journées ensemble à parler chevaux.

Dans le sport de haut niveau, on ne regarde jamais en arrière. On pense à demain, au prochain cheval, au prochain produit que toi ou un autre joueur pourra monter. C’est sûrement mon plus grand rêve désormais. Mais je veux aussi rester compétitif aussi longtemps que possible. Si mes enfants veulent jouer, je les soutiendrai autant que possible ; notamment sur l’organisation autour des chevaux, car c’est essentiel. Et je serai toujours heureux de les regarder jouer.

L’AN DERNIER, VOUS AVIEZ ANNONCÉ VOTRE RETRAITE DE LA TRIPLE COURONNE… ET POURTANT, VOUS ÊTES DE RETOUR CETTE ANNÉE AVEC KAZAK. POURQUOI CE NOUVEAU DÉFI ?

Après La Dolfina, je voulais lever le pied. Quand on a joué dans une équipe aussi forte, c’est difficile d’en retrouver une autre. Mon idée était de me concentrer sur l’international, notamment en Angleterre, pour rester performant ailleurs. Mais puis, il y a eu cette terrible nouvelle : la disparition du jeune Rufino Laulhé. J’ai toujours été très proche de la famille Laulhé. Leurs fils ont toujours gravité autour de moi. Je leur ai prêté ou vendu des chevaux, et Gastón, leur père, a longtemps travaillé avec moi.

J’ai senti comme un signe venu de là-haut : c’était à moi d’être là, avec eux. J’aime jouer avec Nico (Pieres) et Lorenzo (Chavanne), et je pense que j’étais la bonne personne pour accompagner Bertrand dans ce moment difficile, où Rufo aurait dû être à sa place. J’espère que cette année sera belle et réussie. Il y aura des émotions fortes qui nous porteront. Au fond, je sentais que je devais être là pour eux.

PENDANT L’OPEN DE FRANCE, PRENDREZ-VOUS LE TEMPS DE DÉCOUVRIR UN PEU LA FRANCE, PARIS, CHANTILLY ?

Oui, on espère bien profiter un peu de Paris et de la gastronomie. Mon épouse José et ma fille Amalia viendront passer une semaine avec moi. Ce sera l’occasion de découvrir un peu, car nous ne connaissons pas du tout la région. L’idée de venir à Chantilly m’a séduit parce que je n’y avais jamais joué, et grâce à Alexis et Gabriel, je sais déjà que ce sera une belle expérience. J’adore découvrir de nouveaux endroits, rencontrer de nouvelles personnes. À ce stade de ma carrière, je recherche avant tout le plaisir de jouer.

LAST YEAR, YOUR ICONIC TEAM LA DOLFINA WENT ITS SEPARATE WAYS. YOU LEFT THAT ADVENTURE WITH TEN PALERMO TITLES. WHAT MORE CAN A POLO PLAYER DREAM OF? DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR CAREER COMPLETE?

When I first started playing polo, I never dreamed that one day I would play in Palermo. As a child in Europe, I was slowly getting into polo, but I often preferred playing football with my Spanish friends. Over time, however, I became immersed in the polo world and started to understand how it works. When I went to university in England, I brought a string of horses with me and started playing medium goal, before progressing to high goal. Then an opportunity arose to play in Argentina, where I could learn from the best. Then Adolfo invited me to La Dolfina. Today, I live there with my whole family, and I have a large setup there. I have learnt a great deal from the best, and I will be forever grateful to La Dolfina, the Cambiaso family, and my La Dolfina teammates, with whom I shared an incredible journey. When we started, we could never have imagined this. I learnt a lot and enjoyed it so much. I never thought I would play in an Open, let alone play in the final and win it, and obviously even less win it ten times!

AND SPEAKING OF DREAMS - WHAT BETTER THAN PLAYING NEXT TO CAMBIASO! HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ADOLFITO IN THREE WORDS?

Three words? A ma zing! (Laughs).

YOU DECIDED LAST YEAR TO RETIRE OF THE TRIPLE CROWN.… AND YET YOU RETURN THIS YEAR WITH KAZAK TO TRY AND QUALIFY. WHAT DROVE YOU TO TAKE ON THAT NEW CHALLENGE?

After finishing with La Dolfina last year, I was planning to take a break. Having played with such a top team, it's hard to play with another. My goal was to improve my organisation outside of Argentina, particularly in the UK, in order to remain competitive, there. However, when we received the terrible news of the passing of the young Rufino Laulhé, things changed. I have always been very close to the Laulhé family, and their sons have always been around me. I have lent and sold horses to them, and Gaston, their father, has worked with me for many years. I feel as though I have always received signals from above telling me to play with them, especially with Bertran. I enjoy playing with Nico (Pieres) and Lorenzo (Chavanne), so I think I was the right person to play alongside Bertran at such a difficult time, when Rufo was supposed to be playing with them. Hopefully, we will have a very powerful year. There will certainly be some strong moments and emotions that will keep us going. Anyway, I just felt that I needed to be with them at this difficult time.

DURING THE FRENCH OPEN, WILL YOU TAKE THE TIME TO EXPLORE A BIT - FRANCE, PARIS, CHANTILLY ?

Yes, we're hoping to visit Paris and enjoy some great food and wine. My wife, José, and my daughter, Amalia, are coming for a week as well, so the idea is to explore a little, as we have never been here before. I was convinced to come here by the fact that I have never played in Chantilly before, and with the help of Alexis and Gabriel, I am sure that this is going to be a great experience. I love going to new places and meeting new people. Now that I'm towards the end of my career, I look for enjoyment when I play.

I have always considered myself very lucky to have played with Adolfo for so many years. I think I hold the record for the number of years played alongside Cambiaso in the Open. For a Uruguayan guy who lived abroad, it's amazing to have played with the number one player in your sport for so many years. He's a great friend and has been a massive help, and I think I've helped him in his career too. We live next door to each other and spend our days together, talking about horses.As a polo player or sportsman, you can't afford to look back. You always look to the future, looking for the next special horse or trying to breed a horse that you or another top-level player might play with. That's probably one of my biggest dreams for the future. But I also want to remain competitive at the top level for as long as possible. Hopefully my kids will enjoy playing, and if so, I will support them as much as I can, especially with the horses, because the more organised you are, the better. I will certainly enjoy watching them play.

He is part of the elite circle of players who have reached a 10-goal handicap. Born in 1986 in Argentina, Guillermo “Sapo” Caset grew up in Lobos in a polo-playing family and quickly made a name for himself on the country’s biggest fields. A finalist at Palermo in 2013 and 2018, he firmly established his place among the sport’s greats.

A complete player and a brilliant tactician, Sapo has also shone internationally, winning the US Open twice. He is no stranger to French fields either, having claimed the Coupe d’Or in Deauville in 2016 and reaching the semi-finals there in 2017. In 2025, like Pelón Stirling, he will discover the Ferme d’Apremont and the Open de France for the first time, joining Essso* and bringing with him his incisive style and experience from the sport’s highest level.

C’est ma première participation à Chantilly et mes attentes sont élevées. J’ai entendu dire que le club est exceptionnel et que les terrains sont excellents, et nombreux, ce qui est un vrai atout. Depuis trois ou quatre ans, on me parle aussi d’un tournoi très compétitif. J’ai même pu suivre de superbes matchs sur Pololine. Aujourd’hui, avec le nombre d’équipes et de spectateurs, je suis très enthousiaste à l’idée de jouer cet Open en France.

PENDANT L’OPEN DE FRANCE, PRENDREZ-VOUS LE TEMPS DE DÉCOUVRIR LA RÉGION, PARIS, LA GASTRONOMIE, LES MUSÉES ?

Si j’en ai l’occasion, j’adorerais aller à Paris. J’ai trois jeunes fils et, parfois, un moment d’évasion fait du bien ! Paris est si proche que je pourrai certainement y dîner avec ma femme. J’aime beaucoup la France. J’y ai joué plusieurs fois : à Deauville, et j’ai fait quelques practices à Murus Sanctus et à Sainte-Mesme. À chaque fois, ma famille et moi en avons gardé d’excellents souvenirs. Nous sommes heureux d’y revenir.

COMMENT S’EST CONSTITUÉE L’ÉQUIPE ESSSO ?

CONNAISSIEZ-VOUS IAN GALLIENNE ?

J’ai reçu cette invitation lors de l’Open d’Argentine la saison dernière. Flaco Bernal, le manager d’Ian et un ami de longue date, m’a appelé pour me proposer de rejoindre l’équipe cette année. Ils jouaient avec Javier « Chulo » Guerrero ces dernières saisons. Je n’ai pas encore rencontré Ian en personne ; nous avons seulement échangé par téléphone. En revanche, j’ai rencontré son fils Elliott en Argentine, et il est venu jouer avec moi à Palm Beach. Nous passerons aussi un peu de temps ensemble à Sotogrande juste avant l’Open. Je suis vraiment impatient de débuter avec Essso.

YOU’VE PLAYED IN DEAUVILLE, BUT NOT YET IN CHANTILLY. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THE FRENCH OPEN? WHAT IS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE POLO CLUB DU DOMAINE DE CHANTILLY FROM WHAT YOU'VE HEARD?

Yes, this will be my first time playing in Chantilly, and my expectations are high. I have heard that the club is amazing and that the fields are really good and that there are a lot of them, which is great. For the last three or four years, I have heard that the tournament is very competitive, and I have even seen some great games on Pololine. There are lots of people and teams now, so I'm really excited about coming to France to play in the Open this year.

DURING THE FRENCH OPEN, WILL YOU TAKE THE TIME TO EXPLORE A BIT: FRANCE… PARIS, CHANTILLY, GOOD RESTAURANTS, MUSEUMS?

If I have time, I would love to go to Paris. I have three young sons, so a short getaway is always welcome, so hopefully I'll be able to do that. Since Paris is so close, there will certainly be an opportunity to go out for dinner with my wife. I like France… I really like it! I have been to Deauville a couple of times, and I have played at Murus Sanctus, as well as playing some practices at Sainte-Mesme. I really enjoyed it. My family and I always have a good time in France, so we are happy to come back.

HOW DID THIS ESSSO TEAM COME TOGETHER? DID YOU KNOW IAN GALLIENNE BEFORE THIS SEASON?

I received an invitation last season while I was playing in the Argentine Open. Flaco Bernal, who is Ian’s manager and has been a friend of mine for many years, called me to say that the team would like to invite me this year. They had been playing with Javier "Chulo" Guerrero for the last couple of years. I haven't met Ian yet; we've only spoken on the phone. I met his son, Elliott, in Argentina, and he came to Palm Beach to play polo with me. We're going to spend some time together in Sotogrande just before the Open. I am very excited about playing with the Essso team for the first time.

QUELLE AMBITION A ESSSO POUR CET OPEN ?

Quand on monte une équipe, c’est toujours pour gagner, non ? L’objectif est clair : aller le plus loin possible. Tout dépendra aussi de la manière dont nous nous entendrons sur le terrain et de la forme des chevaux. Je n’ai jamais joué avec Chulo ni Ian, il faudra donc rapidement trouver nos repères. Mais l’équipe a été conçue pour viser les phases finales et se battre pour le titre

CHEVAUX AMÈNEREZ-VOUS À CHANTILLY ?

J’irai d’abord à Sotogrande avec mes chevaux basés au Royaume-Uni, puis, pour l’Open de France, j’en sélectionnerai les plus en forme. Le but est d’avoir une cavalerie solide et complète. En France, il y a un chukker de moins qu’en Espagne, donc je disposerai de la force de frappe nécessaire pour bien performer.

QUEL EST VOTRE « CRACK », LE CHEVAL SUR LEQUEL

VOUS COMPTEZ LE PLUS ?

Question difficile ! J’ai plusieurs favoris, dont deux de mon élevage qui se distinguent : ma jument grise Tuca et Pedrita, une baie. Tuca a 12 ans. Je l’ai jouée à Deauville l’an passé et durant la saison anglaise. Elle est magnifique, puissante et infatigable, toujours capable de m’offrir une chance de marquer. Elle est aussi très calme. Elle est née d’une jument que j’avais achetée en Angleterre il y a des années, et que j’ai jouée en Angleterre, aux États-Unis et en Argentine avant de la mettre à l’élevage. Tuca est l’un de ses premiers produits. Je suis fier d’elle : je l’ai vue grandir et progresser depuis le début.

WHAT ARE THE TEAM’S AMBITIONS FOR THIS FRENCH OPEN?

When you set up a team and enter a tournament, you always want to win, don't you? Your ambitions and expectations are always high. Everything you plan and the team you build is aimed at getting to the final and winning it. Of course, it's also a matter of seeing how the team works and how the horses are doing. I have never played with Chulo or Ian before, so we need to get to know each other and prepare very quickly before we go out and play. But rest assured, the team has been assembled to compete and reach the final stages of the tournament.

WHICH HORSES WILL YOU BE PLAYING DURING THE FRENCH OPEN? WILL IT BE YOUR UK STRING?

Yes, I will be bringing my horses from the UK to Sotogrande, and I will be taking the fittest and healthiest ones to France. The idea is to bring the strongest and biggest string possible. There is one less chukker in France than in Spain, so I will have the horsepower needed to compete. As we want to win, we are doing everything we can to give ourselves the best chance of playing well.

AMONG THEM, WHICH ONE IS YOUR FAVORITE, THE ONE YOU TRUST THE MOST?

This is not an easy question. Of course, I have some favorites; some of my own breed are doing really well. My grey Tuca and another bay one called Pedrita are doing particularly well. Those two are really nice and are at the top of my list. Tuca is a 12-year-old mare. I also played her in Deauville last year and in the English season. She is beautiful and powerful. She keeps running when the others are tired and always gives me a chance of scoring a goal. I love her. She is also very calm. She comes from a mother that I bought in England many years ago. I played her in England, the US and Argentina. After retiring her, she became a broodmare, and Tuca is one of her first foals. I am very proud of her, as I have made her from the beginning. I am happy with my string. I have brought some new horses to England and Spain, and I will also bring them to France. Some are from my own breeding program.

DEPUIS QUAND ÉLEVEZ-VOUS VOS CHEVAUX

?

Cela fait de nombreuses années. Aujourd’hui, j’ai beaucoup de chevaux issus de mon élevage, en Europe, en Argentine et même aux États-Unis. Nous continuons sans cesse à apprendre et à améliorer notre programme. C’est un vrai plaisir de voir les progrès de notre élevage en Argentine.

QU’EST-CE QUE VOUS REGARDEZ EN PREMIER QUAND VOUS ACHETEZ UN CHEVAL ?

Le tempérament, d’abord. J’observe sa tête. J’aime les chevaux calmes et posés. Je n’apprécie pas ceux qui tirent et cherchent à courir sans cesse : trop nerveux. Je veux aussi une bouche légère et sensible. Ce sont mes deux critères principaux.

QUEL EST LE MEILLEUR ÉLEVAGE EN ARGENTINE SELON VOUS ?

Ellerstina, La Dolfina et La Irenita sont tous incroyables, avec de nombreux chevaux atteignant le niveau de l’Abierto. Si je ne devais en citer qu’un, je dirais Ellerstina : leurs chevaux sont présents dans bien d’autres équipes, et on retrouve leurs lignées partout dans le monde. Leur programme d’élevage est remarquable, et j’essaie de m’en inspirer.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RAISING YOUR HORSES?

I started breeding many years ago, and today I own many horses that I have bred, not only here in Europe but also in Argentina and the US. We are constantly learning and improving, and we breed more and more horses every year. I am very happy with my breeding program in Argentina.

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A POLO HORSE?

The first thing I look for is temperament; I look at the horse's head. I like calm, quiet horses. I don't like the ones that are always pulling and trying to run; they're too nervous. I am looking for a good mouth; I like it when they are sensible. Yes, those are the first two things I look for in a horse.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE BEST BREEDING IN ARGENTINA TODAY?

Of course, Ellerstina, La Dolfina, and La Irenita are all incredible and have many horses playing in the Abierto, so it is difficult to name only one. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Ellerstina, as their horses can be seen playing not only in Ellerstina teams, but in many others as well, and the Ellerstina bloodline can be found all over the world. Their breeding program is amazing to see, and I am definitely trying to learn from it.

VOUS AVEZ ÉTÉ DEUX FOIS FINALISTE DE L’OPEN D’ARGENTINE. QUELLE IMAGE VOUS VIENT SPONTANÉMENT À L’ESPRIT QUAND ON VOUS PARLE DE PALERMO ?

En fermant les yeux, j’ai cette image de la vue depuis le centre du terrain au moment de la présentation des équipes : les tribunes pleines et la fanfare militaire qui joue devant nous.

Ce moment-là, c’est l’émotion ultime de l’année pour nous. Jouer sur la Cancha Una de Palermo est un rêve d’enfant qui se réalise.

BENSADÓN : QUELS SONT VOS OBJECTIFS POUR LA TRIPLE COURONNE 2025 ?

J’ai adoré jouer avec Ellerstina : l’équipe était cotée en numéro cinq au début de la Triple-Couronne et nous avons terminé à la troisième place du classement après avoir battu La Natividad (40 goals et futur vainqueur de l’Abierto) à Tortugas avant de jouer la finale (perdue d’un goal face à La Hache). Cette année, ce sera différent : il y aura à nouveau quatre équipes devant nous en handicap. Je pense que notre objectif réaliste sera d’atteindre les demi-finales. Cela implique de battre une équipe au-dessus de nous au classement, dès Hurlingham et Tortugas. Avec un peu de chance et une bonne journée, pourquoi pas viser plus haut !

LA DREAM-TEAM CAMBIASO – CASTAGNOLA EST-ELLE IMBATTABLE ?

Il faudra attendre le 6 décembre pour avoir la réponse ! Oui, c’est une équipe de rêve : ce sera incroyable de la voir jouer… et de l’affronter. Mais dans le sport, tout peut arriver. Cela reste une confrontation de quatre joueurs contre quatre joueurs : même les meilleurs peuvent tomber face à une équipe en état de grâce. J’espère avant tout une saison compétitive et passionnante comme la précédente.

*Essso, avec trois S, n’a aucun lien avec une certaine compagnie pétrolière : c’est l’acronyme formé des initiales des prénoms des cinq enfants d’Ian Gallienne, capitaine de l’équipe.

YOU HAVE BEEN A FINALIST IN THE ARGENTINE OPEN. WHAT’S THE FIRST IMAGE THAT COMES TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF PALERMO?

When I close my eyes and picture it, I see the view from inside the field, looking at the stands full of people and the band playing in front of us. That is the image I have of the final. Being there that day is the most exciting moment of the year for us polo players. Being part of Palermo and playing there is an amazing feeling, it's a dream come true. When you're a young player, your dream is to one day play on the Cancha Uno de Palermo.

LAST YEAR YOU PLAYED WITH ELLERSTINA YELLOW ROSE, A CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE, THIS YEAR, YOU’RE BACK WITH LA ENSENADA ALONGSIDE JUANO BRITOS, JERÓNIMO DEL CARRIL AND RUFINO BENSADÓN. WHAT ARE THE TEAM’S AMBITIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S TRIPLE CROWN?

Yes, I really enjoyed playing with Ellerstina last year, we did really well. We started out as the fifth-ranked team and ended the tournament as the third-ranked team. We beat a forty-goal team in Tortugas and played in the final, it was great fun. This year, however, we will face different challenges and have different goals. As I said before, our main ambition is always to win, but we know this will be difficult, as there are four teams with a higher ranking and handicap than us. I haven't discussed this with my teammates yet, but I think our goal will be to reach the semi-finals and therefore get into the top four. This means we will need to beat the team just above us in the rankings to reach the semi-finals, starting with Hurlingham and Tortugas, where we will compete against the top three teams. If we're lucky and have a good day, who knows? We might even make it to the final.

CAN THE CAMBIASO–CASTAGNOLA DREAM TEAM BE BEATEN?

I will only be able to answer that question at the end of the season in December. Without a doubt, it's a dream team, and it'll be interesting to see them play. They are four amazing players; it will be fun to watch them and fun to play against them too. However, there are also other great teams. Ultimately, it's just four people against four people. You can have the best players in the world against you, but if you're having an exceptional day, you can beat them. That happens in every sport. Ultimately, I just hope for another good, fun and competitive season like last year's.

A HIGH-LEVEL WOMEN'S OPEN UN OPEN FÉMININ DE TRÈS HAUT NIVEAU

Plus récent que son homologue mixte, l’Open de France féminin créé en 2011 n’a pourtant rien à lui envier. Ces dernières années, il a vu évoluer plusieurs gagnantes de l’Open d’Argentine, la référence ultime du polo mondial : Lia Salvo, Nina Clarkin, Milly Hine, Hazel Jackson. Lia (Augustinus Bader-Luxembourg), Milly (Nipas–Yves Delorme) et Hazel (Rouge Absolue–Grande-Bretagne) ont confirmé leur retour à Chantilly, tout comme Hope Arellano (USA), H10 comme Hazel qui avait découvert le club l’an dernier en remportant le Paris Games Polo Challenge avec les États-Unis face à la France. En décembre dernier, Hope, Milly et Hazel ont triomphé ensemble à l’Open d’Argentine féminin (UAE El Overo). Cette année, l’une des deux premières pourrait bien se retrouver face à la troisième en finale à Buenos Aires, puisque Hope et Milly, recrutées par Mia (et Adolfo) Cambiaso, défendront désormais les couleurs de leur adversaire de 2024 : La Dolfina. Un duel qui promet et dont l’Open français pourrait offrir un avant-goût.

La n°1 française Elena Venot (H7), elle aussi habituée des terrains de l’Open d’Argentine féminin - les spectaculaires installations de l’Asociación Argentina de Polo, à Pilar -, portera à nouveau les couleurs de Las Indias Polo Team, aux côtés des Argentines Delfina et Julia Rossi. Après un hiver passé ensemble en Argentine, ponctué par une brillante performance à La Dolfina Ladies Cup, leurs ambitions seront plus élevées que jamais. Compétition réputée pour son indécision, l’Open féminin avait sacré en 2024 l’équipe Yves Delorme, que personne n’avait songé à citer dans les pronostics lors du micro-trottoir de Pololine TV.

Le polo féminin est en plein essor : davantage de joueuses, davantage de tournois, et un niveau de jeu qui ne cesse de progresser. De plus en plus présentes sur les terrains, ces cavalières affichent un engagement, une technique et une qualité de monte qui séduisent un public grandissant et font du polo féminin un spectacle à part entière.

Although it is newer than its mixed counterpart, the French Women's Open has been around since 2011 and is every bit as impressive. In recent years, several winners of the Argentine Open, the ultimate benchmark in world polo, have competed in it: Lia Salvo, Nina Clarkin, Milly Hine and Hazel Jackson. Lia (Augustinus Bader – Luxembourg) and Hazel (Rouge Absolue – Great Britain) have confirmed they will return to Chantilly, as has Hope Arellano (USA), who is a 10-goaler like Hazel, and discovered the club last year when she won the Paris Polo Challenge Game with the United States against France. À seulement 21 ans, Hope Arellano s’impose comme l’une des fgures les plus prometteuses du polo féminin mondial. En trois participations à l’Open d’Argentine féminin, elle a déjà soulevé deux fois le trophée le plus prestigieux de la discipline. En 2023, elle s’imposait avec El Overo Z7 UAE. En 2024, elle rééditait l’exploit avec cette même équipe. Un an après le Paris Games Polo Challenge, elle revient à Chantilly.

At just 21 years old, Hope Arellano has established herself as one of the most promising figures in women’s polo worldwide. In just three appearances at the Women’s Argentine Open, she has already lifted the most prestigious trophy in the sport twice. In 2023, she claimed her first title with El Overo Z7 UAE, a victory repeated in 2024. One year after the Paris Games Polo Challenge, she returns to Chantilly.

FRANCE–USA ? Les gens, tout simplement ! Tout le club a été incroyablement accueillant et gentil avec nous tous.

Hope was born into a deeply polo-rooted American family; her father, Julio Arellano, was a leading player for Team USA and even competed at the Argentine Open with Indios Chapaleufù II. Hope has also shined on home ground, notably winning the U.S. Women’s Open twice. Known for her game sense, precision and composure, she has already collected several awards since her first Abierto in 2023: Revelation of the tournament in Palermo, Best playing pony of Argentine breeding (Don Ercole Cruz de Malta), Best mounted player and she ended with a 10 of handicap (In 2024, she was the only woman 10-goaler of the female circuit). An impressive track record at such a young age. Next year, she will join La Dolfina and the Cambiaso clan alongside Milly Hine to defend her title alongside Mia Cambiaso.

Hope is no stranger to Chantilly either: in 2024, she helped Team USA defeat France 10-7 at the Paris Games Polo Challenge, played in a festive Olympic atmosphere. In 2025, she returns to the Ferme d’Apremont for the Open de France Barnes, with a clear ambition: to remain at the top of the international game, on a field she now knows well..

J’étais forcément un peu triste de quitter l’équipe UAE, car je ressens une vraie amitié avec chacune d’elles ! On avait une super alchimie sur le terrain comme en dehors. Sheika Maitha est l’une des personnes les plus adorables que j’ai jamais rencontrées, et Lucas (Monteverde) et Jaso (Jacinto Crotto) font un travail remarquable pour faire tourner toute l’organisation. Mais je suis aussi très enthousiaste à l’idée de cette nouvelle aventure !

JOUEREZ À CHANTILLY. COMMENT S’EST-ELLE FORMÉE ?

C’est Kitana (Saint-Cyr) qui m’a appelée il y a quelques mois pour me proposer de jouer avec elle ! Nous avions déjà joué ensemble par le passé. À partir de là, on a construit notre équipe. Je suis super heureuse de jouer avec celle qui sera bientôt ma belle-sœur !

Je pense que j’ai eu la chance de monter plusieurs chevaux extraordinaires qui m’ont énormément appris. Impossible d’en choisir un seul !

QU’EST-CE QUE VOUS RECHERCHEZ EN PRIORITÉ CHEZ

UN CHEVAL DE POLO ?

Je cherche d’abord la vitesse et la maniabilité. Et j’ai remarqué que j’apprends à aimer un cheval au fil du temps : un lien se crée en dehors du terrain, et cela se ressent ensuite sur le terrain. C’est quelque chose de très fort à vivre.

AVEZ-VOUS D’AUTRES PASSIONS EN DEHORS DU POLO : LECTURE, CINÉMA, SPORT, CUISINE… ?

Je suis une vraie fille de l’extérieur ! J’adore jouer au tennis, faire des randonnées, passer du temps avec mes animaux, ma famille et mes amis.

La dernière fois, j’ai profité d’une journée de libre pour aller à Paris, c’était absolument magnifique

Je suis très excitée par cette édition de l’Open d’Argentine. On n’a pas encore eu l’occasion de jouer toutes ensemble en équipe, donc ce sera intéressant de trouver notre rythme collectif.

EST-CE UNE PRESSION SUPPLÉMENTAIRE DE JOUER SOUS LA BANNIÈRE DE LA FAMILLE CAMBIASO ?

Je ne ressens pas plus de pression que d’habitude ! Je crois que c’est à chacun de gérer la pression qu’il se met. Personnellement, je m’en mets déjà beaucoup avec mes propres objectifs !

VOUS AVEZ DÉJÀ JOUÉ AVEC DE TRÈS GRANDS NOMS DU POLO. QUI VOUS INSPIRE LE PLUS, HOMME OU FEMME, ET POURQUOI ?

J’ai beaucoup de modèles dans ce sport ! Mon père, bien sûr. Mais aussi Facu Pieres, Hilario Ulloa, Nina Clarkin … elle est une maman et une joueuse incroyable. Il y en a beaucoup d’autres, mais voilà déjà quelques noms qui m’inspirent vraiment.

Y’A-T-IL UNE CHOSE QUE LES GENS SERAIENT SURPRIS D’APPRENDRE SUR VOUS ?

Ha haha ! Je ne sais pas… Peut-être le fait que j’adore les animaux ? Mais je crois que ce n’est pas vraiment une surprise !

Both were very special to me!! I think every year and every tournament you have different goals so every time you play you have different feelings!

SHORTLY AFTER THAT, YOU JOINED LA DOLFINA WITH YOUR EL OVERO TEAMMATE MILLY HINE. ANY REGRETS ABOUT LEAVING THAT SOLID AND UNITED EL OVERO TEAM WITH WHOM YOU HAD ALREADY WON?

I was definitely sad to leave the UAE team as I have a great friendship with everyone on that team! We have great chemistry on and off the field. Sheika Maitha is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Lucas (Monteverde) and Jaso (Jacinto Crotto) do an incredible job of running her organization. I am excited to see what this new journey brings as well!

TELL US ABOUT THE TEAM YOU'LL BE PLAYING WITH IN CHANTILLY. HOW DID IT COME TOGETHER?

Kitana (St-Cyr) called me to play with her a few months back! We have played together in the past. From there we made our team. I couldn’t be more excited to play together with my soon to be sister-in-law!

WHICH HORSES WILL YOU BE PLAYING IN THIS OPEN DE FRANCE? ARE THEY FROM YOUR MAIN STRING? I will be renting horses when I go!

IS THERE ONE HORSE IN PARTICULAR THAT HAS MARKED YOUR YOUNG CAREER SO FAR?

I think I have been fortunate to have many wonderful horses that have taught me so much! I couldn’t pick just one!

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR FIRST IN A POLO PONY: INSTINCT, POWER, RIDEABILITY?

I look for speed and handle! I have noticed that I will grow to like a horse more once I have had it for a bit of time. You create a bond with them off the field that carries on to the field. It is a beautiful thing to be able to share that with your horse.

OUTSIDE OF POLO, DO YOU HAVE OTHER HOBBIES OR PASSIONS: READING, MOVIES, COOKING, ANOTHER SPORT?

I am a very outdoorsy person! I love to play tennis, hike, and spend time with my animals, family and friends!

DO YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR THIRD PALERMO OPEN IN MIND? HOW WILL YOU PREPARE AND ORGANIZE YOURSELF THIS TIME AROUND?

I am very excited for this year’s Argentine Open. We haven’t been able to play all together as a team before so it will be fun to find our rhythm as a team!

IS IT EVEN MORE PRESSURE TO PLAY UNDER THE CAMBIASO FAMILY BANNER?

I don’t find it to be more pressure! I believe you are in control of how much pressure you put on yourself! I put enough pressure on myself about my other goals.

YOU’VE PLAYED WITH SOME OF THE BEST IN THE SPORT ALREADY. WHO’S A PLAYER, MALE OR FEMALE, THAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST, AND WHY?

I look up too many people in the sport! My Dad, Facu Pieres, Hilario Ulloa, Nina Clarkin as an incredible mother and player. There are so many people I look up to but those are a few!

WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU - ON OR OFF THE FIELD?

Hahaha! I am not sure!! I love animals but I feel that isn’t a surprise!

A NEW ARENA FOR A MORE ACCESSIBLE AND MORE SUSTAINABLE

À Apremont, le chantier touche à sa fin : une grande arena, dédiée au polo sur sable, sort de terre. Elle s’apprête à devenir un nouvel outil de référence pour la discipline en France, et bien au-delà. Avec ses dimensions exceptionnelles (160 x 75 m), elle s’annonce déjà comme la plus vaste carrière en sable non couverte d’Europe spécialement conçue pour le polo.

In Apremont, the final touches are being made: a vast sand arena dedicated to polo is nearing completion. With its exceptional size (160 x 75 m), it is set to become a new landmark for the discipline in France and well beyond. It will be the largest open-air sand arena in Europe purpose-built for polo.

L’arena polo, discipline cousine du polo classique, se joue sur un terrain réduit, avec des règles légèrement adaptées. Elle se pratique avec plusieurs chevaux par joueur, comme sur herbe, mais permet des formats de jeu plus courts et plus dynamiques, qui séduisent un public toujours plus large. Cette arena permettra également la pratique du paddock polo, version encore plus accessible de ce sport, pratiquée avec un seul cheval par joueur ; un format qui se développe notamment dans les clubs affiliés à la Fédération Française d’Équitation.

Aux États-Unis, l’arena polo représente déjà la moitié des licences actives, notamment grâce à son ancrage dans les universités et les écoles. L’Angleterre, l’Argentine et la France, première nation sacrée championne du monde dans cette discipline, suivent le mouvement, avec une ambition commune : rendre le polo plus accessible, plus formateur et plus durable.

C’est dans cet esprit qu’a été pensé ce projet porté par la Fédération Française de Polo en collaboration avec l’Association Sportive France Polo et le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly. Implantée à Apremont, au cœur d’un territoire où l’équitation fait partie intégrante du paysage, cette arena offrira une large palette

d’usages : terrain d’expression pour les joueurs professionnels et amateurs, site d’accueil pour des stages jeunesse à l’échelle locale, et support pédagogique pour les établissements scolaires des Hauts-de-France. Elle pourra aussi accueillir des événements d’entreprise ou des disciplines équestres voisines.

L’arena se distingue également par ses choix techniques : un sol fibré dernière génération couplé à un système de subirrigation, qui réduit la consommation d’eau de 70 %, pour une gestion plus responsable des ressources. Une plateforme surélevée a également été intégrée pour accueillir le public et les partenaires.

La France est officiellement candidate pour en organiser la phase finale en 2027. Ce nouvel équipement renforce ainsi le pôle équestre cantilien, déjà reconnu à l’international. Soutenu par le Fonds Éperon, la Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne, le Département de l’Oise et la Région Hauts-de-France, ce projet illustre la force d’un partenariat public-privé engagé. Il contribue à faire évoluer la pratique vers plus de souplesse, de partage et de cohérence avec les enjeux contemporains. Un pas de plus vers un polo plus ouvert, plus responsable, et toujours aussi vivant.

Arena polo, a close cousin of traditional polo on grass, is played on a smaller pitch with slightly adapted rules. Like classic polo, it requires several horses per player, but its shorter, faster-paced matches appeal to a growing audience. This new arena will also host paddock polo, an even more accessible format requiring only one horse per player, a version gaining popularity in clubs affiliated to the Fédération Française d’Équitation. In the United States, arena polo already accounts for half of all licensed players, thanks to its strong presence in schools and universities. England, Argentina, and France - first ever world champions in this discipline - are following suit, with a shared ambition: to make polo more inclusive, more educational, and more sustainable.

That same ambition inspired the French Polo Federation in collaboration with the Association Sportive France Polo and the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly to launch this project. Set in Apremont, a territory where equestrian culture runs deep, the arena will serve a wide range of purposes: a playing field for professional and amateur players, a base for youth training camps, a teaching tool for local schools, and a venue for corporate events and other equestrian disciplines. Technically, the arena sets a new standard: a state-of-the-art fiber footing combined with a sub-irrigation system reduces water consumption by 70%. A raised viewing platform will welcome spectators and partners.France is officially bidding to host the finals in 2027. This new facility will further strengthen Chantilly’s position as a major hub of international equestrian sport.`

EGYPT COMES TO CHANTILLY!

Remporter un tournoi « 6-8 goals » est déjà un bel accomplissement en soi.

Mais le gagner sur le même terrain et le même jour que l’Open de France Barnes, dans la ferveur de son ultime week-end, donne à ce Trophée Castel une saveur unique et un véritable supplément de prestige. Pas étonnant que huit belles équipes soient en lice cette année, certaines n’étant autres que les « petites sœurs » de formations engagées dans l’Open : Animales Polo Team de Gus Emsens (BEL), associée à Cavok, l’équipe de notre président Arnaud de Chênevarin ou encore Octogone, emmenée par Thomas Morange, tandis que son père Alexis disputera l’Open avec Pelón Stirling. Dans cette équipe, on retrouvera aussi l’Argentin Faty Reynot-Blanco, figure incontournable et athlétique du Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, aux côtés de Nicolas Corti Maderna.

Le plateau international est à la hauteur, avec des équipes venues d’Allemagne, de Belgique, de France… et même d’Égypte ! Kings of Polo fera ses débuts à Chantilly sous l’impulsion de Mohamed El Sewedy, président de la fédération égyptienne de polo, accompagné de Mansur et Sadek El Sewedy et renforcé par l’Argentin Franky Menendez (h5). Basé au Caire, Kings Polo a vu le jour en 2010, lorsque Mohamed El Sewedy a voulu doter l’Égypte d’un véritable pôle d’excellence pour les passionnés de polo : avec la mission de créer une structure de niveau mondial pour les amateurs de polo, El Sewedy a transformé sa vision en réalité. Kings Polo est ainsi devenu un lieu incontournable, accueillant aussi bien les joueurs en devenir que les professionnels confirmés et les passionnés. Aujourd’hui, le club est la vitrine du polo égyptien et poursuit son développement en Europe, notamment à Villa a Sesta, où il s’installe chaque été pour la saison européenne.

Le Trophée Castel est aussi l’occasion pour les talents français de briller. Deux équipes 100 % tricolores seront de la partie : Audaz, menée par Brieuc Rigaux, et Jivaro, sous la direction d’Édouard Pan. D’autres Français seront répartis dans sept des neuf équipes, comme Dorian Bulteau, Adrien Le Gallo, Côme Dubois, ou encore les frères Simon et Sam Sztarkman, qui évolueront notamment aux côtés d’un autre pilier argentin du club, Jota Chavanne.

Winning a 6-8 goal tournament is already a fine achievement in itself. But to do so on the same field and on the same day as the Barnes Open de France, at the height of its final weekend, gives the Trophée Castel a special prestige and atmosphere. It is no surprise then that eight strong teams are competing this year, including several acting as “B teams” to Open de France formations: Animales Polo Team of Gus Emsens (BEL), linked with Cavok, the team of our president Arnaud de Chênevarin; and Octogone, led by Thomas Morange, while his father Alexis contests the Open with Pelón Stirling. This team also features Faty Reynot-Blanco, an Argentine player and popular mainstay of the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, alongside Nicola Corti Maderna.

The line-up is truly international, with teams from Germany, Belgium, France… and Egypt! Kings of Polo will make its Chantilly debut under the leadership of Mohamed El Sewedy, president of the Egyptian Polo Federation, alongside Mansur and Sadek El Sewedy, with Argentine Franky Menendez (h5) reinforcing the team. Based in Cairo, Kings Polo was founded in 2010 when Mohamed El Sewedy sought to establish a true centre of excellence for polo enthusiasts in Egypt. Today, the club is the showcase of Egyptian polo and continues its development in Europe, particularly at Villa Sesta, where it is based during the summer season.

The Trophée Castel also offers the perfect stage for French talent to shine. Two all-French teams will be present: Audaz, led by Brieuc Rigaux, and Jivaro, captained by Édouard Pan. Other French players will feature across seven of the nine teams, including Dorian Bulteau, Adrien Le Gallo, Côme Dubois, and brothers Simon and am Sztarkman, who will line up alongside another of Chantilly’s Argentinian devotees, Jota Chavanne.

Avec plus de 1 300 chevaux hébergés en même temps à la Ferme d’Apremont, le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly vit au rythme d’une effervescence exceptionnelle pendant l’Open de France Barnes. Pendant trois semaines, les terrains vibrent sans relâche, avec des matchs en continu du matin au soir, offrant un spectacle permanent et une atmosphère unique en Europe.

« Dans le sillage de notre tournoi phare, nous avons à cœur de faire partager cette fête du polo au plus grand nombre. Le Trophée du Capitaine des Jeux offre ainsi aux amateurs l’opportunité de former des équipes de 0 à 4 goals et de participer eux aussi à la période la plus intense et la plus festive du calendrier français », souligne Philippe Perrier, directeur du club et… capitaine des jeux !

Huit équipes ont déjà confirmé leur engagement, majoritairement françaises, mais aussi venues du Luxembourg avec l’infatigable Marie-Jeanne Kappweiler, et d’Allemagne avec Maike Hölty, auteure d’une très belle saison à Chantilly. La Franco-Américaine Yoko Qiu, quant à elle, a vu grand en réunissant deux jeunes talents normands passés professionnels à force de travail : Jules Legoubin (h3) et Elouan Badarello (h2), amis d’enfance devenus des visages familiers du haut niveau. Elouan a remporté cette année la Polo Nations Cup (12 goals), tandis que Jules avait décroché ce titre en 2024 avec la même équipe Tédélou-Occitanie, en ce moment engagée dans l’Open de France Barnes.

Ce cocktail d’amateurs passionnés, de pros aguerris et de jeunes espoirs donne au « 0-4 » son caractère unique. Il incarne parfaitement la vocation du Polo Club : permettre à chacun, quel que soit son niveau, de vivre l’Open de France Barnes de l’intérieur et de partager l’énergie de cet événement hors norme.

With more than 1,300 horses stabled at the same time at the Ferme d’Apremont, the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly is a hive of activity during the Barnes Open de France. For three weeks, the club buzzes with life: matches run non-stop from morning to evening, creating a spectacle like no other in Europe and an atmosphere that every polo lover dreams of.

“In the wake of our flagship tournament, we are committed to sharing this celebration of polo with as many people as possible. The Trophée du Capitaine des Jeux gives amateur players the chance to form 0-4 goal teams and be part of the most intense and festive period of the French polo season,” explains Philippe Perrier, the club’s director and, fittingly, the “capitaine des jeux” (polo manager) !"

Eight teams have confirmed their entry, the majority French, but also from Luxembourg with the ever-loyal Marie-Jeanne Kepweiler, and from Germany with Maike Hölty, who has enjoyed an impressive season here in Chantilly. Franco-American Yoko Qiu has gone the extra mile, enlisting two young Norman talents turned professionals through sheer determination and hard work: Jules Legoubin (h3) and Elouan Badarello (h2), childhood friends who have carved out their place in top-level polo. Elouan lifted the Polo Nations Cup (12 goals) this year, while Jules won the same title in 2024 with TédélouOccitanie, a team now competing in the Barnes Open de France.

This blend of passionate amateurs, seasoned professionals and promising young talents is what makes the “0-4” so special. It perfectly captures the ethos of the Polo Club: giving everyone, whatever their level, the chance to experience the Barnes Open de France from the inside and share in the energy of this truly exceptional event.

Une victoire française était acquise dans la Ladies Polo Nations Cup – la finale opposait la Normandie aux Hautsde-France ; mais celle d’Occitanie-France face à l’Argentine dans la compétition principale fut le fruit de la plus belle des batailles de ce début de saison. Une victoire décrochée, comme en demi-finale, en prolongation.

Ce fut une magnifique après-midi de sport pour les spectateurs présents dimanche 22 juin au Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly. Une brise rafraîchissante balayait les terrains d’honneur, assurant des conditions idéales pour les chevaux qui ont livré une performance de très haut niveau. Le public, conquis, s’est enthousiasmé devant les grandes envolées des joueurs des deux camps. Un polo ouvert, rapide, avec un minimum de fautes sifflées, comme on l’aime. Et, pour couronner le tout, un scénario de folie : alors qu’Occitanie-France semblait prendre le large (5-2) au deuxième chukker, l’Argentine a patiemment grignoté son retard grâce à la maîtrise de Matias Torres Zavaleta. Auteur de sept des huit goals de son équipe, il a arraché l’égalisation dans la toute dernière seconde du temps réglementaire, sur une pénalité jouée depuis le milieu de terrain.

A French victory was guaranteed in the Ladies Polo Nations Cup, as the final pitched Normandy against Hauts-de-France, but the win of Occitanie-France over Argentina in the main competition was the result of the most spectacular battle of the spring season. A victory sealed in overtime as most of the games of this more and more competitive tournament.

It was a magnificent afternoon of sport for the spectators gathered on a June Sunday at the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly. A refreshing breeze swept over the main fields, creating ideal conditions for the horses, who delivered top-level performances. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to thrilling action from both sides. It was polo at its finest: open, fast, with few fouls.

And to top it all off, a dramatic scenario: as Occitanie-France seemed to break away (5-2) in the second chukker, Argentina patiently clawed back thanks to the masterful play of Matias Torres Zavaleta. Scorer of seven out of his team’s eight goals, he equalised in the very last second of regulation time with a penalty from midfield.

Il fallait donc jouer un suplementario. Et comme en demi-finale, l’issue s’est jouée sur un goal en or : cette fois, après Ramiro, c’est Simon Zavaleta qui a délivré son équipe d’un magnifique coup sous l’encolure sous les yeux de son père Diego, figure historique du polo à Chantilly, au bord de la syncope. L’équipe d’Isabelle Larenaudie conservait ainsi son titre.

Pour Elouan Badarello, jeune quatrième homme de la formation française et nouvelle recrue d’Isabelle Larenaudie, c’était un premier grand titre dans une compétition de ce niveau (12 goals) : « Oui, ma première grande victoire avec une équipe splendide grâce à Isabelle et aux frères Zavaleta. C’était une expérience de fou. Ce match a été très compliqué. Nous l’avons bien entamé, mais ce ‘Mati’ Torres est incroyable. Il est capable de mettre trois goals en trois actions et de revenir au score. Mais nous avons su garder notre calme, ne pas stresser. Et nous en tenir à notre jeu, avec le même système que nous avions mis en place depuis le début du tournoi. »

Elouan avait une grosse mission défensive, notamment celle de neutraliser Tomas Oviedo. Mais les situations de jeu ont parfois fait qu’il s’est retrouvé à défendre sur ce diable de Matias Torres Zavaleta : « Défendre sur lui est très compliqué. Il faut être plusieurs, seul, il te rend la vie impossible. Mais c’est exceptionnel de pouvoir affronter un tel joueur, et c’est une chance énorme d’avoir un crack de ce niveau à Chantilly. C’est un tournoi où j’ai énormément appris. »

So, as it had already been the case for the semifinal, the final game went into suplementario, the match being decided by a golden goal. This time, after Ramiro, it was his brother Simon Zavaleta who delivered the winning shot, a superb underthe-neck strike - right before the eyes of his father Diego, a legendary figure of Chantilly polo, who nearly fainted with emotion. With this goal, Isabelle Larenaudie’s team retained their title.

For Elouan Badarello, the young fourth player of the French formation, it was a first major victory in a high-level competition (12 goals): “Yes, my first big win with a fantastic team thanks to Isabelle and the Zavaleta brothers. It was a crazy experience. The match was very tough. We started strong, but this Mati Torres is unbelievable. He can score three goals in three plays and come right back. But we kept our cool, stayed composed, and stuck to our game plan, the same strategy we had been using since the start of the tournament.”

Elouan had a major defensive role , notably to neutralise Tomas Oviedo. But the flow of the game sometimes had him facing the unstoppable Matias Torres Zavaleta: “Defending against him is very hard. You need several players, because on your own, he makes your life impossible. But it’s an amazing opportunity to face such a top-level player, and a huge privilege to have a crack like him here in Chantilly. I learned a lot in this tournament.”

LADIES POLO NATIONS CUP: A COMEBACK VICTORY FOR HAUTS-DE-FRANCE!

Les dames ont également gratifié le public d’un très beau match, sans doute l’une des plus belles rencontres féminines jamais jouées à Chantilly. Les Normandes, menées par l’Argentine Milagros Sanchez (h7), ont pris la main grâce à de longues balles envoyées à ses coéquipières : 3 à 1½ à la mi-temps. Puis la machine Hauts-de-France s’est mise en route, avec une Pupi Sirvent et un Anaïs Rezkallah particulièrement percutantes, réactives aux balles distillées par leur pilier Ambre Ploix : « Je m’attendais à un tournoi très compliqué, très compétitif, commentait cette dernière, et ce fut bien le cas. Les équipes étaient très homogènes. Donc nous étions déjà heureuses d’atteindre la finale… que nous avons entamée plutôt endormies. Il a fallu attendre la troisième période pour mettre notre jeu en place et inverser la domination. Anaïs (Rezkallah, MVP amateur, NDLR) a livré un match incroyable. En fait, toutes les filles ont livré un grand match et je suis heureuse d’avoir joué avec elles. »

Ces championnes, ces champions, et bien d’autres stars du polo mondial qui les ont rejoints à Chantilly, animent actuellement le 25ème Open de France Barnes, pour le plus grand bonheur du public.

The ladies also delighted the crowd with a brilliant match - probably one of the finest women’s games ever played in Chantilly. Led by Argentine Milagros Sanchez (h7), the Normans took the upper hand early with long passes feeding her teammates: 3-1½ at halftime.

But then the Hauts-de-France machine roared to life, with Pupi Sirvent and Anaïs Rezkallah proving particularly incisive, responding sharply to the passes from their captain Ambre Ploix: “I expected a very tough and competitive tournament, said Ploix, and it truly was. The teams were very balanced. So we were already happy to reach the final... which we started a bit asleep. It took until the third period to find our rhythm and turn things around. Anaïs (Rezkallah, MVP amateur) played an incredible match. In fact, all the girls played a great game and I’m so happy to have shared the field with them.”

This double French triumph - among the women and the men - concluded the third edition of the Polo Nations Cup in the most brilliant fashion. These champions, along with many other stars who have joined them in Chantilly, are currently playing in the 25th Barnes French Open, much to the delight of the public.

Une soirée douce, comme on les aime au Polo Club de Chantilly, des échanges conviviaux sur la terrasse de l’Orangerie… Mais sur le terrain, le match dit « amical » n’avait d’amical que le nom. Le Brésil n’était clairement pas venu pour plaisanter sur cette même cancha « Honneur 2 » d’où une autre Seleção était repartie, vingt-et-un ans plus tôt, avec le titre de championne du monde. Face à eux, la France de Jean-Claude Le Grand avait à cœur de démontrer la force de son collectif face à une équipe où figurait un joueur de handicap 7. Une affaire d’honneur.

It was one of those gentle evenings we love at the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, with friendly conversation flowing on the Orangerie’s terrace… But on the field, this so-called “friendly” was anything but. Brazil clearly hadn’t come to joke around on the same field Honneur 2 where another seleção had claimed the World Championship title twenty-one years earlier. Facing them, Jean-Claude Le Grand’s French team was determined to demonstrate the strength of its collective spirit against a side featuring a 7-goaler. It was a matter of honour.

Le Brésil n’a rien laissé au hasard, montant notamment de très bons chevaux de professionnels argentins basés à Chantilly, comme Tito Guiñazu ou Jota Chavanne. Et d’entrée, les Brésiliens ont pris le match en main, menant 2–0 après seulement trois minutes. Mais les Français ont vite répliqué, portés par un Édouard Pan particulièrement inspiré ce soir-là : 2 partout, puis 4 à 2 pour les Bleus. Ensuite, Jaunes et Bleus se sont rendus coup pour coup. Et c’est la France qui a eu le dernier mot, l’emportant sur le plus petit des écarts : 9–8.

Une belle récompense pour le capitaine Jean-Claude Le Grand qui, quel que soit le tournoi, tient à n’aligner que des joueurs français sous ses couleurs d’Eternal J. Ce jour-là, Louis Jarrige, Édouard Pan et Julien Reynes lui ont offert une victoire internationale de prestige : « C’est toujours compliqué de jouer contre des SudAméricains, commentait le capitaine français, car ils ne lâchent jamais rien. Joao Paulo Ganon nous a souvent rappelé qu’il avait 7 de handicap. Leur équipe jouait bien, collectivement, même si le match n’était pas toujours très ouvert car ils jouaient souvent à deux, Ganon et Garcia. C’était un match amical… mais ils n’avaient rien d’amicaux ! Ils étaient clairement venus pour gagner. Un match de polo n’est jamais vraiment amicala : quel que soit l’enjeu, à la fin, tu veux gagner. »

Du combat, il y en a eu, mais dans un bon esprit : seulement trois goals de pénalité sur les dix-sept inscrits. Joao Paulo Ganon, le buteur du Brésil, n’est autre que le frère de Pedro Henrique Ganon, auteur du but en or qui avait offert le titre de champion du monde au Brésil à Chantilly en 2004 : « Pour ma part, c’était ma première venue à Chantilly. C’est un club magnifique, avec de superbes installations, et on y croise d’excellents joueurs. Les Français ont vraiment très bien joué. Nous étions venus pour gagner, on veut toujours gagner, non ? La France est une bonne équipe, on voit que ses joueurs ont l’habitude d’évoluer ensemble, tandis que nous, nous jouions ensemble pour la première fois. ».

Cette victoire constitue une belle performance pour la France face à une équipe supérieure sur le papier, emmenée par un handicap 7. Une belle page de plus pour le polo tricolore, désormais tourné vers le Championnat du monde d’Arena, en Virginie, où il défendra son titre dans quelques semaines. Chantilly, avec ses installations de haut niveau et son ouverture internationale, permet assurément au polo français de se développer. Et c’est ici même que bat en ce moment le cœur du polo français : l’Open de France Barnes, rendez-vous majeur de la saison, où se retrouvent cette année encore plusieurs grandes figures du polo mondial.

Brazil left nothing to chance, riding top-quality horses provided by Argentine professionals based in Chantilly, such as Tito Guiñazu and Jota Chavanne. And right from the start, the Brazilians took control, leading 2-0 after just three minutes. But the French team quickly responded, driven by an inspired Édouard Pan: 2-2, then 4-2 for the men in blue. From there, it was blow for blow, yellow against blue. And it was France who had the final word, clinching this hard-fought match by the narrowest of margins: 9-8.

A fine reward for captain Jean-Claude Le Grand, who, whatever the tournament, insists on fielding only French players under the colours of Eternal J. That day, Louis Jarrige, Édouard Pan and Julien Reynes gave him a prestigious international victory: “It’s always tough playing South Americans, the French captain commented. They never let go. Joao Paulo Ganon kept reminding us of his 7-goal handicap. Their team was strong and cohesive, though the match wasn’t always very open as Ganon and Garcia tended to play as a pair. It may have been called a friendly game, but there was nothing friendly about them! They clearly came to win. A polo match is never truly friendly: whatever the stakes, you want to win.”

There was plenty of action, but always in good spirit: only three of the seventeen goals were scored from penalties. Joao Paulo Ganon, Brazil’s top scorer, happens to be the brother of Pedro Henrique Ganon, the man who scored the golden goal that handed Brazil the World Championship title in Chantilly back in 2004: “It was my first time in Chantilly. It’s a magnificent club, with superb facilities and excellent players. France played really well. We came to win - you always want to win, don’t you? France is a strong team. You can see their players are used to playing together, whereas we were playing as a team for the first time.”

This French victory was a notable achievement against a technically superior side led by a 7-goaler. One more proud chapter in the story of French polo, which now turns toward the Arena World Championship in Virginia, where France will defend its title. With its world-class facilities and international reach, Chantilly continues to be a key hub for the development of French polo. And this is where the spotlight shines again this autumn for the highlight of the season: the Open de France Barnes, where several of the world’s leading players are fighting for the coveted trophy.

Du 21 au 25 juillet 2025, les Gallops chers à Bady Kebir, un de nos joueurs du Polo Club de Chantilly, ont ouvert un nouveau chapitre au cœur du Kirghizistan pour une édition aussi extraordinaire grâce au spectacle offert par la nature, que riche en émotions fortes. Une soixantaine de participants a traversé à cheval les hauts plateaux du Tian Shan, autour du lac Soñ Kol, situé à 3100 mètres d’altitude. Des paysages de verdure à couper le souffle, une culture millénaire et une aventure humaine hors normes : cinq jours de chevauchée inoubliables.

From 21 to 25 July 2025, the Gallops wrote a new chapter in the heart of Kyrgyzstan, with an edition as spectacular as it was emotional. Around sixty riders crossed the highland of the Tian Shan range on horseback, circling the stunning Son-Kol Lake at 3,100 meters above sea level. Breathtaking scenery, ancient culture, and an extraordinary human adventure: five unforgettable days of horse riding.

Bien plus qu’un simple raid chronométré, les Gallops reposent sur un subtil équilibre entre endurance, esprit d’équipe, stratégie et sens de la navigation. Guidés par GPS, les cavaliers ont rejoint chaque jour un nouveau campement de yourtes, affrontant des dénivelés exigeants, des passages de rivière, des steppes infinies et parfois… leurs propres limites.

Christian Normann, lui-aussi joueur du club et capitaine de l’équipe gagnante, Shut up and Gallops, était sous le choc du spectacle offert par la nature kirghize : « Victoire ou pas, c’est une aventure incroyable. On a traversé des paysages à couper le souffle, on a eu le temps de faire le vide dans nos têtes, pendant des heures. Et on l’a vécue en famille, avec des amis très proches. C’est ce qui rend cette expérience si forte. »

Même enthousiasme pour Gabrielle Puget, cavalière de Jildiz : « C’est une équipée unique. Des paysages magnifiques, mais surtout une aventure humaine : cinq jours en équipe avec des personnes que l’on apprend à connaître, sur un itinéraire guidé par GPS. Et il faut le dire : les chevaux font 80 % du travail ! »

Far more than a simple timed race, the Gallops combine endurance, teamwork, strategy and orientation. Guided by GPS, riders reached a new yurt camp each day, tackling steep climbs, river crossings, endless steppes, and at times, their own limits.

The grey team Shut up and Gallops and the yellow team Jildiz ultimately shared first place, finishing level on points.

“Win or lose, it’s an incredible adventure”, said Christian Normann, captain of Shut up and Gallops. “We rode through breathtaking landscapes, had hours to clear our minds, and experienced it all with family and close friends. That’s what makes it so special.”

“It’s a unique adventure”, added Gabrielle Puget, rider for Jildiz. “The scenery is stunning, but above all it’s about the human experience – spending five days as a team, following a GPS trail, getting to know each other. And let’s be honest: the horses do 80% of the work!”

Une immersion dans l’âme nomade.

Chaque soir, les participants retrouvaient la chaleur de campements de yourtes typiques aménagées pour les treks ou les randonnées équestres dans cette région : KyzArt Hôtel, Amantur Camp, Aytbek Camp, Ulush Camp et Azamat Camp. Des haltes accueillantes et insolites où les récits du jour se partageaient autour d’un plat traditionnel ou d’un thé brûlant, les yeux encore remplis des paysages traversés.

Le programme I Am Nomad complétait l’expérience avec des démonstrations de jeux équestres, des ateliers artisanaux et des dégustations de spécialités locales, offrant une plongée dans les traditions kirghizes.

« Le Kirghizstan n’est pas une destination de touristes, mais de voyageurs », résumait Bady Kebir, co-organisateur des Gallops. « Cette édition restera marquée par la beauté brute de ses paysages et l’endurance incroyable des chevaux kirghizes. Avec I Am Nomad, nous avons tenu notre promesse : révéler l’âme authentique de ce pays. »

Each evening, participants gathered in traditional yurt camps such as KyzArt Hotel, Amantur Camp, Aytbek Camp, Ulush Camp, and Azamat Camp. Welcoming and authentic, these stopovers were perfect for sharing the day’s stories over a hearty meal or hot tea, eyes still full of the day’s scenery.

The I Am Nomad program immersed riders in Kyrgyz traditions: equestrian games, artisan workshops, and tastings of local delicacies offered a cultural counterpoint to the equestrian adventure.

“Kyrgyzstan is not a tourist destination; it’s a traveler’s destination", said Bady Kebir, coorganizer of the Gallops. “This edition was defined by the raw beauty of its landscapes and the remarkable endurance of the Kyrgyz horses. With I Am Nomad, we kept our promise: to showcase the country’s authentic soul.”

Un succès rendu possible grâce à Azamat Zhamankulov, ancien ministre du Tourisme, et sa société de production Duldul, qui a assuré la logistique : « Les Gallops ont été une nouvelle expérience, de nouvelles émotions, de nouvelles rencontres, une nouvelle culture, et de nouveaux amis, se réjouissait-il. Tout a été extraordinaire, non seulement pour moi, mais aussi pour les habitants et pour tout le Kirghizstan. Je suis convaincu que les Gallops ont été une formidable occasion de montrer que notre pays est une destination équestre d’exception. Les participants des Gallops seront toujours les bienvenus ici. »

À Chantilly, les spectateurs de l’Open de France Barnes la connaissent bien : Clémence Faivre revient régulièrement animer les grandes journées et surprendre le public par son numéro en liberté et haute école avec Fuego, son imposant cheval isabelle. Avec ou sans bride, toujours avec cette complicité rare qui impressionne autant qu’elle émeut.

At Chantilly, polo spectators know her well: Clémence Faivre often takes part in the club’s great events, astonishing the crowd with her liberty and haute école work alongside Fuego, her striking buckskin stallion. No bridle, no tricks, only that rare complicity which impresses as much as it moves.

Clémence a grandi à Gouvieux, à quelques lieues des terrains de polo, sans imaginer qu’elle y viendrait un jour en artiste reconnue. Jeune, elle passait des heures au Club hippique du Lys, mais la compétition ne l’attirait pas. Elle aimait les chevaux et la scène. Un détour par le Cours Florent lui donne le goût du spectacle, mais c’est une rencontre décisive… devant sa télévision, l’émission de Mario Luraschi, « Chevaux de cinéma », qui va lui tracer la voie.

À vingt et un ans, sans expérience du dressage, elle se présente chez le célèbre cascadeur. La révélation vient d’un cheval ibérique, Motivado, qui lui ouvre en une séance l’univers de la haute école. Elle s’engage alors comme palefrenière chez Mario, apprend la voltige, le cinéma, l’attelage, la bourrellerie, tout ce qui tourne autour du cheval. Elle double des actrices, participe au spectacle Ben Hur au Stade de France, mais sent qu’il lui manque l’essentiel : approfondir sa compréhension du dressage.

C’est l’Espagne qui va lui offrir ce savoir. Elle y monte des chevaux difficiles chez un maquignon andalou, observe les écuyers de l’École royale de Jerez, rencontre Rafael Soto puis Alvaro Domecq, découvre la doma vaquera, croise la route de Francisco Bautista dit « Zorro », écuyer autodidacte brillant. Elle apprend la rigueur, la finesse, le sentiment de chaque mouvement. Revenue en France, elle gagne ses premiers cachets, achète Gotan, son premier cheval personnel, qu’elle amène jusqu’à la haute école à cheval et en liberté. Avec lui, elle se lance en 2010 aux Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer: le succès est immédiat, et bientôt international.

She grew up in Gouvieux, just a stone’s throw from the polo fields, never imagining she would one day return as a celebrated artist. Horses and the stage were her passions. A brief spell at the Cours Florent acting school sharpened her taste for performance, but a decisive encounter with Mario Luraschi and his world of cinema horses revealed her true path.

At twenty-one, she joined his stables as a groom and learned everything from stunt riding to harness work. Yet it was in Andalusia that she discovered the depth of dressage: training difficult horses, observing the masters of Jerez, and finding her own style through the doma vaquera. She brought that knowledge back to France and, with her first horse Gotan, created a show that launched her international career.

Ensemble, ils se produisent dans les plus grands galas, de l’Europe à l’Asie, jusqu’en Arabie saoudite où Clémence entre dans l’histoire comme première femme à se produire en spectacle. Partout, son style frappe : pas d’artifice, pas de contrainte, une équitation épurée où complicité et liberté priment.

En 2018, elle épouse Mario Luraschi, son premier mentor. Elle élève aujourd’hui des lusitaniens à la finca La Maloca, en Andalousie, et partage son temps entre cette terre ibérique et le tipi de Mario, son havre dans la forêt d’Ermenonville.

Mais ce qui continue de séduire à Chantilly comme ailleurs, c’est cette simplicité élégante : une femme, un cheval, une liberté totale. À chaque représentation, Fuego s’assoit, se cabre, passage, piaffe, galope au terre-à-terre, danse presque, et le public retient son souffle. L’art équestre, à l’état pur.

Her story has since travelled the world. With Gotan, and later with Fuego, she performed in major galas across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, even becoming the first woman to appear in public performance in Saudi Arabia. Everywhere, her style stood out: a pure, stripped-down horsemanship built on trust and freedom.

In 2018, Clémence married Mario Luraschi. She now divides her time between La Maloca, her Andalusian stud farm dedicated to Lusitanos, and the Tipi of Mario in the forest of Ermenonville. Yet what the Chantilly public will always remember is the simplicity and grace of her bond with Fuego: a horse who bows, rears, and almost dances under her lightest signal. Equestrian art, at its purest.

Ce rallye unique en son genre allie automobiles de collection, polo de haut niveau et art de recevoir, dans un cadre idyllique.

Les équipages s’élanceront au matin depuis un lieu encore tenu secret, pour une balade bucolique sur les routes de l’Oise, avant de rejoindre les terrains du Polo Club de Chantilly, où se jouera la finale de l’Open de France de polo, l’un des tournois les plus prestigieux d’Europe.

Ce rendez-vous mêle ainsi deux passions : le sport mécanique et le sport équestre, dans une ambiance conviviale et haut de gamme, fidèle à l’esprit du Club d’Aumale.

To celebrate the Final of the Open de France de polo on Sunday, 21 September 2025, the Club d’Aumale is hosting a new edition of the Rallye de l’Open, an extraordinary car rallye characterised by style and mechanical elegance.

This unique event brings together classic cars, top-level polo and the art of hospitality in an idyllic setting. Teams will set off in the morning from a secret location for a scenic drive through the Oise region, before arriving at the Chantilly Polo Club grounds for the final of the Open de France de Polo, one of Europe’s most prestigious tournaments.

APPRENDRE LE POLO À CHANTILLY

LEARNING POLO IN CHANTILLY

L’école de polo du Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly est l’une des meilleures portes d’entrée en France pour pratiquer ce sport fascinant. Partie intégrante de la Ferme d’Apremont, elle forme depuis plus de vingt ans des cavaliers de tous âges et de tous niveaux, encadrés par des entraîneurs diplômés et des joueurs professionnels.

The Polo School of the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly is one of the finest gateways in France to discover this unique sport. Based at the Ferme d’Apremont, it has been welcoming players of all ages and levels for over twenty years, under the guidance of qualified coaches and professional players.

Le polo, plus ancien sport d’équipe au monde, associe équitation, technique et esprit collectif. Deux équipes s’affrontent pour envoyer une petite balle dans les buts adverses, à cheval et à l’aide d’un maillet. Si la règle paraît simple, la richesse de ce jeu tient dans la stratégie, la maîtrise de sa monture et la fluidité du jeu d’équipe dont l’apprentissage est à la fois exigeant et passionnant.

Pour essayer et ensuite se lancer, le « pack découverte » est idéal : deux heures partagées entre théorie et pratique, avec prêt du matériel, pour apprendre ses premiers coups de maillet au pas, au trot ou au galop. Les cours collectifs, limités à six élèves, favorisent la progression dans une ambiance conviviale.

Très vite, les débutants participent à leurs premiers chukkers, puis passent les « maillets » de Bronze, d’Argent et d’Or, qui jalonnent l’accès à la compétition.

L’école transmet aussi une culture d’homme ou de femme de cheval : connaissance et bien-être du cheval, équitation fine, règles du jeu et valeurs comme le fair-play et le respect de tous.

Les examens peuvent être validés dans tout club agréé par la Fédération Française de Polo. Avec un Maillet d’Or, on obtient son premier handicap et l’on peut jouer en tournoi, tout en continuant à progresser.

Une équipe d’enseignants hautement compétents

Sept entraîneurs DEJEPS composent l’équipe d’enseignants hautement compétents : Sébastien Philippot, Julien Reynes, Brieuc Rigaux, Jérôme Anier, Benoît Perrier, Pascal Jamet et Stéphane Macaire. Chacun apporte son expertise, du polo poney à la préparation au haut niveau.

L’école dispose aussi d’une Arena écoresponsable (cf. P64), inaugurée au début de cet été : 160 m par 70, la plus grande de

France, pour pratiquer sur sable toute l’année et accueillir des tournois, notamment ceux de l’école, mais également l’Arena Polo Tour et d’autres compétitions en partenariat avec des clubs FFE ainsi que les stages.

À Chantilly, le polo se partage : enfants, adultes, débutants ou confirmés trouvent ici un lieu où apprendre, progresser et vivre la passion du jeu à cheval.

Polo, the oldest team sport in the world, blends horsemanship, skill and teamwork. Two teams compete on horseback to send a small ball through the opponent’s goal using a mallet. The rules may seem simple, but the game’s depth lies in its strategy, the partnership with the horse and the fluidity of collective play.

For newcomers, the “Discovery Pack” offers the perfect first step: two hours of theory and practice, with equipment provided, to learn the basics at walk, trot or canter. Small group lessons encourage progress in a friendly atmosphere, and beginners are soon playing their first chukkers. From there, they advance through the bronze, silver and gold mallets, which mark the path to competition.

The school also teaches the fundamentals of good horsemanship: caring for the horse, refined riding, knowledge of the rules and values such as respect and fair play. A Golden Mallet earns a first handicap and opens the door to tournaments, while training continues for higher goal competitions.

A skilled coaching team

Seven State- Certified coaches make up the skilled coaching team: Sébastien Philippot, Julien Reynes, Brieuc Rigaux, Jérôme Anier, Benoît Perrier, Pascal Jamet and Stéphane Macaire, each bringing expertise ranging from pony polo to high-level preparation.

The school also features France’s largest eco-friendly arena, inaugurated this summer, for year-round sand polo, tournaments and training camps. In Chantilly, polo is for everyone – children, adults, beginners or experienced players – a place to learn, progress and share the passion for the game on horseback.
