Calke’s Summer of Family Fun There’s plenty of family fun to be had at Calke this summer. Discover the Garden of Imagination (13 July 30 August) and seek out our wild grass labyrinth. There’s loads to do this summer holiday at the National Trust’s Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood come rain or shine, there are activities both inside and out.

Visitors can also step back to the 1940s at the Kedleston at War event, where there will be displays of life on the home front, war survival school and battle camp, music and songs from the time, as well as a tea dance and children’s make do and mend craft activities.

There are also secrets in store tours, where you can venture into the stores and attic rooms and discover the collections not normally on view to the public, as well as Sudbury Craft Sunday on 14th July where you can see a variety of crafts demonstrated and have a go at some yourself.

At Sudbury Hall, visitors will find ever popular crafts to make and do from Tuesdays through to Thursdays each week.

On August 7th there is a chance to get involved in all sorts of fun and games as Sudbury takes part in National play day, and

SummersQUAD, Lego Saturdays, Summer Digital Playground & Cine Kids film screenings are lined up for a summer of Fun Family Friendly activities in QUAD (for grown ups too!) QUAD in Derby has a range of creative activities for all and specific ages plus daily family friendly film screenings over the summer months with SummersQUAD, Lego Saturdays, Summer Digital Playground (for grown-ups too!). SummersQUAD will take place every Thursday during August and will include artist-led family friendly activities such as shadow puppets, mobiles and more. These activities will be linked to QUADs exhibition and season of ‘Memory’. The activities are suitable for children aged three and above, and all children must be accompanied. SummersQUAD takes place on Thursdays: 1st 8th 15th 22nd & 29th August, from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. The cost is £1 per child per activity, and places can be booked in advance through QUAD Box Office. Lego Saturday will take place in the Resource area outside QUAD Gallery every Saturday during the school holidays, from 20th July to 31st August inclusive. Young people aged three and above can come and have a play using QUAD’s GIANT box of Lego! Lego Saturdays are free. Summer Digital Playground presents a range of digital games and activities hosted by QUAD’s creative technical team, (aimed not just at families but for grown-ups too!), to come along, explore and interact. Derby theatre school gets into the groove with race for life’s cancer slam RAZZAMATAZ Theatre School are pulling on their dancing shoes to inspire Derbyshire women to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. The dancers are swapping their usual routine for a feisty new dance known as Race for Life’s ‘Cancer Slam’. Capturing the energy and spirit of Race for Life, the Cancer Slam has been created to bring the indescribable power and emotion of the women-only events to life. It also embodies the passion and determination behind the rallying cry ‘Cancer, we’re coming to get you.’ Organisers hope the Cancer Slam will stop

shoppers in their tracks and motivate mums, grans, daughters, sisters and friends to sign-up for Race for Life on the spot. The Cancer Slam will also be performed by thousands of women as part of the rousing warm-up at 230 Race for Life events around the UK this summer. A video showing how to do the dance steps is available online so participants can practice ahead of their events. Shanley Booth of Razzamataz Theatre School said: “We’ve had great fun learning to do the Cancer Slam. We hope people feel the excitement and energy of the routine and then want to enter their local Race for Life event. She continued: “Cancer touches so many people. That’s why we feel so passionately

about rallying women of all ages to the cause. We want to help kick cancer into touch by taking part in Race for Life and raising as much money as possible to help save lives.” So women of all shapes and sizes are needed to join together as a formidable army and take on cancer at Darley Park, Derby on Sunday 14th July 2013.
