The change marks a visual transformation of ADCO’s next chapter while honoring the strength of its 67year legacy. Alongside the logo launch, ADCO also went live with a redesigned website.
But it’s clear this isn’t just about visuals, it’s about vision.
In the booth, attendees gathered around a seamless demonstration of ADCO’s compact powerhouse, the JET-BC Horizontal End-Load Cartoner connected to a robust Massman Automation Case Packer. Beyond the branding and cohesive design, both machines operate in tandem with common electronics, verified changeover, and shared operator touch points and interfaces—creating a truly streamlined and visually seamless connected system.
“Customers immediately see the value of our partnership,” said Hohn. “ADCO is an incredible cultural and strategic fit for Massman Companies— not just on paper, but in how they value customers, empower employees, and uplift their community. It’s rare to see this level of alignment with connected systems so clearly, so quickly.”
This connection has long existed behind the scenes. Now it is front and center and is on full display in the Massman booth this week. It’s a

combination many customers are already familiar with, as these machines often work side-by-side in facility production lines. This week, attendees get to see it all in action, working together as one connected system.
“We knew Massman was the right partner, and this is even more true today,” said Kate King, CEO of ADCO Manufacturing. ”I love that Massman isn’t removing who we were, rather progressing our future to who we are. Seeing our machine running in the Massman booth, with our new logo and a huge crowd watching—it’s everything we imagined this partnership could be.” King was visibly moved by the milestone and continued, “We’ve worked alongside Massman for years and now we’re growing together… it just makes sense!”
PMMI’s Jim Pittas agrees the partnership is a positive move for Massman Companies.
“This is what smart, strategic growth looks like. When legacy companies like ADCO and Massman come together and immediately show customers something real—like new branding, running machines, and a unified message - it builds trust. And it raises the bar for the whole industry.”
In addition to the connected system in Massman Companies’ booth—which also features machines from Massman Automation, EDL, Ideal Pase, DTM, and New England Machinery—ADCO Manufacturing is showcasing several more of their machines in their dedicated booth. From top-load and end-load cartoners to sleevers and tray formers, the full spectrum of ADCO’s capabilities is on display.
“This is just the beginning,” said Hohn. “Together, we’re building one of the most complete packaging automation portfolios dedicated to making the process easy for our customers. ADCO will be largely integrated by the end of the year, allowing customers a single set of terms, service rates, bank accounts, and even a single contract.”
“Partnership is about simplifying,” Hohn says as he gives King a great big smile, “and we are just getting started.” ■

KHS (Booth W-3430) has engineered a lightweight 591-milliliter PET bottle for still beverages, named Factor 101.
KHS (Booth W-3430) has set a benchmark by engineering one of the lightest PET bottles for still beverages to date. Under the working title of Factor 101, in close cooperation with Canadian-based injection molding technology equipment and services provider Husky Technologies, a container has been produced that uses just 5.89 grams of material to hold 591 milliliters of product. This is equivalent to the 20-ounce size common in the United States.
As KHS packaging designer Fabian Osterhold in Hamburg explains. “With such extreme lightweighting, what’s known as the top load is especially important. This value tells us how sturdy the bottle is from a vertical perspective. It determines whether the container can be stacked or not and survive transportation undamaged.”
To increase stability, the shoulder design of Factor 101 has been modified, and the bottle body reinforced with functional webbing. Moreover, Osterhold and his colleagues have developed a base with a pop-in effect. Here, the base pops inwards to a certain degree when a top load is applied, increasing the internal pressure and therefore the stability of the bottle.
Two hundred newtons is a common top load threshold in the industry; at 220 newtons, the Factor 101 exceeds this. In order to achieve this high value for a PET bottle used for still beverages, adapting just the container shape wasn’t enough. “The preform design also needed to be developed further,” said Osterhold. This is why KHS joined forces with the specialists at Husky. The company has a wealth of expertise as the world’s leading equipment supplier of PET preform injection molding systems and services and has been in cooperation with KHS for many years.
The stretching factors from blank to bottle and the resulting preform dimensions were especially important here. The relation of length to wall thickness is particularly relevant to injection molding. In this context, KHS addressed the specifications —Continued

and feasibility of the stretch blow molder and bottle design, while Husky made the modifications to the preform. “The focus here was on the exact profiling of the preform made possible by KHS technology,” Osterhold said. “Focus lamps in the heater on our InnoPET Blomax Series V, for example, make for extremely precise temperature profiling directly under the bottle neck ring. This ensures that no material stays unstretched. In turn, this considerably reduces the amount of plastic used.”
Compared to the standard lightweight PET container holding 500 milliliters of still water that usually weighs seven grams on the US market, the joint KHS/Husky product requires 30% less material. It can also be manufactured entirely from rPET.
However, bottle geometry is just one factor. “Line compatibility in the highcapacity range of up to 90,000 bottles per hour was a key challenge,” said Osterhold. “The main issues here were conveying, labeling and the secondary packaging. In the shrink tunnel, for instance, special attention had to be paid to the bottle shoulder— and the bottle of course shouldn’t fall over during conveying.”
“Not only the weight but also the time in which the project was implemented are possibly record-breaking,” Osterhold said. Thanks to the great teamwork between Husky and the many KHS departments involved in the development process, the project was successfully concluded in just four months.
“The bottle in this form is of particular relevance to contract fillers who operate under great cost pressure,” believes Osterhold. The prime target markets are the United States, the Middle East, and South America. The first projects are already in preparation. ■

To fix inconsistent date coding for Olly supplements, co-man MSI turned to a Morrison CHS (Booth W-3522) metering system for accurate container placement.
Facing date coding trouble on a line of supplements for its CM/CP customer Olly, contract manufacturer MSI needed a solution to set the containers at the right place and time.
The contract nutraceutical manufacturer and packager had encountered a challenge of consistently applying date codes to the underside of full and capped Olly plastic containers, according to equipment supplier Morrison Container Handling Solutions. Without reliable spacing and orientation as the containers moved through the date coding process, MSI often had to manually verify proper date code placement.
POBCO is rolling out something new.
“The Olly bottles pose a significant challenge being square with round corners,” explains Jeremy Blazek, senior project manager at MSI. “Any drag and coefficient of friction on the conveyor guide rails would cause the bottles to become unstable, creating both illegible and misaligned date codes.”
To alleviate this issue, MSI turned to Morrison to design a metering solution that would improve precision and remove the need for manual code verification.

Morrison engineered an automated metering system to run 500-, 787-, and 1,000mL Olly containers accurately over a Keyence date code printer. The system accepts these containers from a backlog before metering them over the printer with a timing screw at a rate of 120 containers per minute.
The single timing screw pushing the containers along, machined from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, provides gentle handling and avoids excess pressure or damage to the bottles. The frame built around it is made with anodized aluminum to ensure durability.
“The timing screw Morrison provided allowed the bottle to transition through the coding area very smoothly with correct metering. This solution greatly enhanced repeatability of coding and reduced reworking of bad codes,” says Blazek.
Each of the three sizes of Olly container tested for this system vary in height but have the same footprint. To make any changes needed to run different sizes, “We can either interpolate the screws, where we grow/shrink the diameter of the screws to deal with the different sizes of containers that need to run on the line, or we provide our deluxe adjuster,” says Dustin Lee, vice president of sales at Morrison.
Morrison and MSI also worked together to test run the metering system across multiple lines, covering all Olly supplement container sizes, Lee says.
The timing screw meters containers over the printer, which sits beneath the conveyor and applies codes through a slot, then maintains 8.25 inches of spacing as it sends them along. This provides enough clearance to avoid trouble labeling down the line.
“The labeler needs a minimum spacing for the wrap-around label to be applied,” explains Lee. The timing screw both provides that minimum spacing and squares the label for proper application.
This saves significant headaches for MSI, as Blazek explains, “In the past, we experienced a tremendous amount of rework due to containers not having correct spacing entering the label head. This led to machine jams of bottles that were stuck together due to sharing the same label.”
By stabilizing the container spacing and velocity through the coding section, the Morrison metering system has improved the accuracy of date placement and overall efficiency on MSI’s packaging line, avoiding frequent manual intervention. And with the containers squared away for labeling, MSI can avoid any misalignment or double labeling. ■

The packaging and processing industry stands at a critical juncture, experiencing profound workforce transitions that challenge the foundation of operational excellence. Industry leaders are aware of the seismic shifts that created knowledge gaps, cultural disconnects and learning challenges on their plant floors:
1. COVID-Era Resignations and Retirements:
The unprecedented waves of resignations during the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted continuity across roles and generations. Now, an accelerating retirement wave is further compounding this disruption, as decades of frontline expertise, hard-earned intuition, and operational know-how are exiting the industry.
2. Emergence of a New Generation:
Simultaneously, a new generation of professionals is stepping in—driven, talented, and eager for relevance, rapid learning, and meaningful engagement. They demand training methods that connect and resonate with them and seek a current, inclusive workplace.
Addressing these challenges is paramount for maintaining and advancing operational efficiency. To address this, the OpX Leadership Network (West Lobby) is launching two new products for Fall 2025.
“Workforce transitions are inevitable, but they don’t have to disrupt performance,” says Carlos Quintero, director, industry services, PMMI. “The OpX Leadership Network’s new tools are more than resources—they’re a call to action. If we want to safeguard operational excellence, we must equip our teams now with training and data standards that inspire, connect, and prepare them for the future.”
The products aim to bridge generational knowledge gaps and foster a culture of continuous learning and data-driven decision-making.
1. Operator Training Standardization (OTS): This modern, adaptable approach to onboarding and developing operators balances legacy wisdom with contemporary learning preferences. By incorporating fast, visual, mobile, and clear methods, OTS ensures that the incoming workforce connects with and retains critical operational knowledge.
2. Data Management Standardization (DMS): This initiative provides a unified structure for organizing, labeling, and utilizing data across OEMs and end users. DMS aims to close communication gaps, enabling consistent and effective data for informed decision-making, maintenance, and performance improvements.
OpX Work Products are not merely theoretical frameworks; they are real-world solutions engineered through OpX’s Joint Collaboration Process (JCP) between PMMI member OEMs and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies that manage production lines daily.
“Work products are built through six months of bi-weekly meetings with 10–15 experts—each with 15–20-plus years of experience,” says Quintero. “The results are tools that capture the real capabilities, limitations, and possibilities of every topic.”
Over the past 15 years, the OpX Leadership Network has introduced over 20 tools—from hygienic equipment design to digital transformation—that give teams a common language, clear handoffs, and readyto-use checklists for faster startups, safer operations, and fewer changeover losses.
The new OTS and DMS offerings are grounded in this tradition, built to ensure smooth workforce transitions and long-term operational success.
How Eriez® (Booth SL-11000) metal detectors and magnetic separators keep tree nut-based products free of contaminants at Cache Creek Foods
Beverages and foods from tree nuts are becoming a dietary delight in the U.S. and abroad. So it’s not surprising that a California company, which started as a tree nut orchard, has blossomed into a multi-million dollar operation encompassing five processing centers.
Based in Woodland, CA, Cache Creek Foods has all of its processing centers located in a 60,000 square foot production facility. The third-generation familyowned business churns out 50 million pounds of natural tree-nut-based products annually, requiring constant attention to detecting and eliminating any source of contamination, according to Carl Hartmangruber, plant manager.
Over the last several years, Cache Creek has installed a variety of Eriez (Booth SL11000) metal detectors and magnetic separation equipment to maintain the utmost in product purity. The Cache Creek system now includes two Eriez Xtreme® Metal Detectors, an Xtreme Liquid Line Metal Detector, and a series of ProGrade® Grate Magnets, Plate Magnets and Liquid Line Trap Magnets.
“We have a continuous improvement program to meet our critical control points and all HACCP regulations; it’s all about providing the highest quality food products possible,” Hartmangruber says. “We installed the Xtreme Metal Detectors recently and have used the Eriez magnetic separation products for some time in many of our processing lines.”
Cache Creek undergoes third-party audits to guarantee the safety of its products and the ability to trace each ingredient and packaging material, and their transportation to and from the plant. Cache Creek is SQF 2000 Certified and meets the requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
The spacious production facility processes more than 25 million pounds of tree nuts per year, according to Hartmangruber. The tree nuts—including almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts—are conveyed through different processing lines depending
All drive components of the VDG Drum Motor, including the premium-efficiency electric motor, gear reducer, and bearings, are enclosed and protected inside the drive drum and maintenance-free for 80,000 hours of continuous operation, reducing operational and maintenance costs while increasing throughput.

—Continued from page 28 upon their ultimate use. However, each processing line includes Eriez magnetic separation equipment for the removal of stray metal.
The milling line, for example, processes tree nuts that eventually become an ingredient in products like AlmondMilk, nutraceutical bars, non-dairy yogurts, and fine desserts. The raw nuts are dispensed through a series of Eriez grate magnets, which help draw out fine tramp metal.
After dry roasting, the nuts are milled into a paste form. Then, they are conveyed through Eriez ProGrade Liquid Line Trap Magnets, which further remove weakly fine ferrous contamination. The magnetic element, consisting of a group of magnetic tubes, is arranged to cause the material flow entering the body to impinge against the tubes and filter through the magnetic field, completely covering the open area. The magnetic circuit is designed so the entrapped iron will have a tendency to work around and cling to the downstream side of the tubes. This action prevents iron particles from being washed off by the continuous flow of material.
The viscous product is then sent through an Eriez Xtreme Liquid Line Metal Detector to remove ferrous metals not removed by the magnet, as well as nonferrous and 300 stainless steel metals. When metal is detected in the product flow, a reject signal is channeled to one of the available output relays. The output relay can be used to activate a ball valve, control a visual or audio alarm, or send a signal to a programmable logic controller (PLC).
“We were excited to get the Xtreme Metal Detector in our plant in the fall of 2014,” Hartmangruber says. “When you are dealing with health-style products, you utilize the best equipment to achieve the best quality food.”
The other processing lines—including seasoning, confectionary, oil, and dry roasting lines—use a series of Eriez Plate and Grate Magnets which provide basic tramp metal removal to help protect downstream equipment. “Eriez helped with positioning these magnets for optimum protection throughout these processing lines,” Hartmangruber says. “They also provided a pull testing service where they test all the magnets for pull strength to make sure the magnets are working at optimum efficiency.”
The Plate and Grate Magnets serve multiple purposes since they remove tramp iron, which, left unchecked, could cause significant damage to milling and grinding equipment, resulting in lost time and costly repairs. The magnetic separation equipment also prevents product contamination and improves product purity.
“We are dealing with food products going from field to fork, so there are many processing steps involved,” Hartmangruber explains. “Our nuts are picked off trees and brought into our plant for further processing. Here, you have conveyors and grinders, milling operations, and all sorts of moving parts that can increase the chance of contamination.”
Orange University demonstrates products on-site
Hartmangruber and his crew were able to see demonstrations firsthand on the Eriez Magnetic Separation and Metal Detection equipment before making their selections. This was made possible through the Eriez Orange University Mobile Training and Education Center, a 38-foot Winnebago® stuffed with equipment and resources to facilitate hands-on learning.
The set-up is tailored to food and other light industry applications and includes an array of state-of-the-art magnetic separators, vibratory conveyors, screeners, and metal detectors, as well as a high-tech multimedia system with mobile broadband and multiple monitors, including an interactive 42-in. touch screen.
“The nice thing about the Mobile Training and Education Center is that it brought a wide variety of equipment right to our front door, giving us a convenient opportunity to see it, touch it, and feel it,” recalls Hartmangruber. “It’s so much better than looking through a computer or at a line card.”
“When the vehicle came to our plant, it was not structured as a sales visit, and there was no pressure to buy. Instead, it was a chance for us to see some things we have not seen before, ask questions, and engage in a good dialogue with Eriez training personnel,” he says. “I was able to get my quality control and maintenance people to talk with Eriez technicians to figure out how the equipment would work in our plant.”
Eriez launched the Orange University Mobile Training and Education Center to give customers free access to on-site training and equipment demonstrations to help them find solutions to their day-to-day material handling and contamination challenges. “We personalize the Orange University experience to meet the needs of those who step aboard,” says Jayne Corey, Orange University Team Leader. “They bring us their toughest product purity and material handling processing challenges, and we work with them to determine the best and most economical solutions.” ■

Multi-Conveyor (Booth W-852) increased production at RTD beverage brand co-packer Arty’s Premium Beverages by 20%.
Multi-Conveyor (Booth W-852) recently installed two custom-designed project conveyors laid out to optimize production space for a popular RTD (ready-to-drink) beverage co-packer, Arty’s Premium Beverages. Arty’s started 14 years ago with their own brand of Arty’s Premium Beverages RTD premixed cocktails.
At that time, there was little demand for RTD products. Arty’s originally came in a 7 oz. glass bottles, with most of the packaging done by hand, including capping the bottles. Their line expanded to include aluminum cans for their popular Supper Club line, which led to the development of their RTD beverage co-packing business. The canned beverage market has experienced exponential growth over the last five years.
Ryan Mijal, VP and co-owner of Arty’s, explained that it found its niche through its emphasis on small volume runs. “When we started, there wasn’t really any co-packing out there for small volume. If you wanted to do something, it was all high volume,” Mijal said.
Arty’s process seamlessly integrates blending, carbonating, and canning. “We blend everything to customer specs, do all of our quality checks that go into these tanks where we chill and carbonate off the customer’s specs in terms of carbonation, and then they transfer to the canning line,” he said.
to a common conveyor, or they can offload to a rotary table prior to the pasteurizer.
Multi-Conveyor provided stainless steel constructed 3.25” table-top conveyor sections from our pre-engineered Success Line catalog, commonly used in beverage applications. The automated lines consisted of one 18” long idle end that feeds a Palmer Beverage (Booth SU-26080) filler.
Post-filler, standard Success Line sections, included guide rails, chains and supports to make up a 10’ long intermediate section with 90˚ curve and 30” drive end (with motor and reducer).
That growth led to expansion and automation, with the help of Multi-Conveyor’s project manager, Chris Jeszke. Jeszke was able to identify ways to accomplish their objectives, reduce labor through custom conveyance, and help with ergonomics. He redesigned the plant layout, taking exact measurements that lined up with existing equipment, saving money and optimizing production space.
“When we designed the building layout, Chris came in and helped us decide what conveyor layout would work best to cut costs,” Mijal said. “The way we were dividing (the line) to get into the tunnel pasteurizer, they helped us come up with a better way to cut costs in terms of the actual conveyor process by just helping us with the layout.”
Arty’s rework included the addition of a second filling line configured to get through an existing wall to their Jenrey (Booth N-6374) Tunnel of Love pasteurizer. With Multi-Conveyor’s recommendations, both fillers can now feed the pasteurizer by merging
In this section, the new filling line can merge onto an existing Cask filler to feed the pasteurizer or divert directly to the hand-pack when pasteurization is not required.
The 90˚ conveyor was designed to transport cans from the discharge of the pasteurizer to the main hand-pack area. Product is then warehoused where it can be flow-wrapped in multi-packs or bulk shipped in pallets. Arty’s currently serves over 1,000 locations. Because the conveyors were plug-an-play, Arty’s didn’t have to modify anything during the delivery or installation, making it a very smooth transition. With the automated line configuration assistance from Multi-Conveyor, Arty’s has realized a 20% increase in production output.
Regarding future expansion, Arty’s VP indicated they are looking at a new facility, which would include some major expansion with conveyors. “We will continue to work with Chris on all future quotes due to the speed in quoting, ease to work with, and great communication throughout the process,” Mijal said. ■

Sponsored by the Reusable Packaging Association (Booth SU-34000), this pavilion is a must-visit for professionals striving to embrace a greener future. ■
A launch pad for packaging and processing breakthroughs, the biennial event has experienced significant expansion and influence.
PACK EXPO Las Vegas is celebrating a milestone: 2025 marks 30 years since the show’s debut. Today, PACK EXPO Las Vegas remains a global hub for industry innovation and collaboration.
Show producer PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (West Lobby), has elevated PACK EXPO Las Vegas from a regional trade show to a global industry force— expanding its scale, influence, and relevance across
international markets. This year, the show will span over 1 million net square feet, feature 2,300 exhibitors, and expects to attract 35,000 attendees from more than 40 vertical markets.
“PACK EXPO Las Vegas has always been more than a trade show—it’s where the future of packaging and processing takes shape,” says Jim Pittas, president and CEO, PMMI. “For 30 years, we’ve been proud to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and spotlight the technologies shaping tomorrow’s supply chains. As we look ahead, we remain focused on the forces transforming our industry: automation, AI, sustainability, and workforce development.”
Since its launch in 1995, each show edition has introduced cutting-edge technologies, from the earliest automation solutions to today’s advances in AI, robotics, and sustainable packaging solutions.
PACK EXPO Las Vegas has been at the forefront of innovations over the past 30 years, and continues to evolve like the industry it serves. For example:
• In 2015, the show brought a new focus on pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing, eventually growing into today’s Healthcare Packaging Pavilion (North Hall) and highlighting the show’s diversification into specialized sectors.
• The growing demand for logistics solutions, driven by the surge in e-commerce and supply chain complexities, led to the introduction of the Logistics Pavilion (North Hall) in 2023.
• The Processing Zone (North Hall), featuring front-of-the-line solutions, and the Processing Innovation Stage (Booth N-9100), were added to provide everything food and beverage manufacturers need to improve production, all in one place.
• Las Vegas has become a destination where the entire industry converges, thanks to the addition of the Industry Speaks (Booth W-4324) learning stage, where thought leaders from the PACK EXPO Las Vegas Partner Program provide valuable insights and resources to their peers.
• Sustainability Central (Booth S-35000) debuted in 2023 and has evolved into a must-visit show floor destination with educational sessions covering
sustainability, one of the most multifaceted challenges the packaging and processing industry faces today. Expert-led sessions will help attendees navigate the complexities of this issue and what it means for their brands.
Also, in 2025, two new guided show floor tours offer attendees curated experiences. The PACK EXPO Discovery Tours, sponsored by Lantech (Booth W-2322) and Formic (Booths SU-26038, SU38084), are ideal for first-time buyers and senior-level decision-makers looking for automation solutions to streamline and optimize various stages of packaging and processing. The PACK EXPO Sustainability Tour, sponsored by Anchor Packaging (Booth SL-17000), is tailored for consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand owners seeking eco-conscious solutions.
PMMI proudly honors the PMMI Member Companies that were part of the inaugural 1995 show and continue to exhibit today by highlighting each company with a special PMMI legacy member exhibitor placard in their booths. A complete list of these members can be found at packexpolasvegas. com/exhibiting/legacy-exhibitor. Their support has helped shape the legacy of innovation and excellence that defines this industry and the continued growth of PACK EXPO Las Vegas.
“As the industry accelerates toward smarter, more sustainable operations, PACK EXPO Las Vegas remains the one place where it all comes together— technology, insight, and community. This year’s show reflects the momentum we’re seeing across the market, with record participation and unmatched opportunities to learn, connect, and grow,” says Laura Thompson, vice president, trade shows, PMMI.
The show is also a prime opportunity to build relationships that drive business growth and bring people together across all levels of the industry.
