Angela Simpson reaches a fitness milestone at John McVeity Centre’s Live Life Get Active program.

Get active One devoted fitness fanatic, Angela Simpson (pictured), has reached her 150 class milestone through Live Life Get Active.

From boxing and cross-training to yoga, there are classes catered to over 18s of all fitness levels, according to Trainer Liam Sandford.

“This is probably my 156th session… at least,” Angela laughed. “It keeps me fit and healthy and it’s a great social outlet.”

“We have a lot of fun together, so don’t be shy,” Liam said. “It’s great for those who want to try new exercises, learn new workouts and challenge themselves.”

The free fitness classes, funded by Sport Australia, run each weekday evening on the lawns in front of the John McVeity Centre in Smithfield Plains. Among the group is newcomer Darren Nicholls who said the classes had changed his life. “I’ve got a lot more energy now,” Darren said. “I like the atmosphere and getting outdoors for fitness.” The program offers free fitness classes during the school term as a convenient way to kickstart or continue participant’s fitness journeys.

“There’s a variety of different classes – we do cross-training on Mondays and Wednesdays, boxing on Tuesdays and Fridays, and yoga on Thursdays with our other trainer Angela Thurston.” Live Life Get Active is a health promotion charity that works with government, health networks, commercial partners and local councils right across the country.
